Don't believe any of these reviews. But don't believe Mario either. Get a quote from him, meet his team in person during normal work hours vs evenings when they are done with their day job, View his shop facilities (they have none). Then contact Guillermo Sarabia at La Costa Boatworks (+52 646 124 6575 WhatsApp) and ask the same, view his current projects, view his shop facilities, and get a quote. Ignore Mario's comments negative about Guillermo (Mario was fired from Baja Naval for ethics issues, not because he wanted to take classes). Just listen and look. Guillermos English is not as good as Mario's, and he's a bit more quiet. But listen and pay attention. Good luck. read more

I had a fantastic experience with this company, all the way from Mario meeting me and discussing my needs in San Diego. Mario arranged for all the necessary documentation and assisted my guest slip in one of the marinas for my extended stay (I was always going to get my fair share of tacos in). The work was done beyond my expectations, and Mario did a great job keeping me informed of any issues that arose. I wanted to take advantage of cheap fuel, and he found me a 55-gallon barrel to use. No unpleasant surprises from the quote and I will be sure to return for all my future maintenance with Niza Marine. - Note: I was somewhat concerned at first, about the negative review that I saw for this company (so many fake reviews as well as "Karens"). Mario and his guys have done a number of jobs for me on my Offshore 62. I have always been extremely happy with their quality work and price. An example of their work is I had them take raw teak and cover my worn fiberglass swimstep. As you can see in the photos the finished work is beautiful. We have known Mario for many years, first as a project manager at another Ensenada boat yard and then with Niza. We have always had good luck with the big yard in Ensenada but needed to complete a number of projects over the course of a couple years while prepping for our retirement cruising. Niza was flexible and cost effective for this work. Mario and team did a great job on many of the projects, we did see a falloff in quality during Covid, we saw the same falloff at the other yard as well. It was difficult to keep the same workers on a project due to illness. That said, we finished our work with Niza which included interior varnish work, external painting, new upholstery, a fiberglass fly bridge roof and new outdoor seating, a new helm station, and engine painting. We've cruised to the Sea of Cortez, Mainland Mexico and now moving up towards Alaska with no issues with their work. My recommendation with Niza, and any other yard, would be to be present during work to minimize any communication issues. I would not hesitate to use Mario and crew again. read more

I met Mario in San Diego after I received a positive recommendation from another local boat owner. I had some complicated metal and fiberglass repairs to be done. Additionally, I wanted a professional eye to ensure I would not have any more complications on my offshore sailboat. We discussed the options and potential costs before I went to Ensenada. What a great experience. I had concerns regarding paperwork, insurance, transportation, and slip space. Mario and his team could not have made it easier. They managed all the paperwork and processing with the Port Captian, Customs, TIPP, Marina, and even getting the Covid Clearance. I met the team that was going to do the repairs, we finalized the plan, and all the repairs were done as promised, on time, and exactly what we already agreed to in San Diego. I have been having work done by Niza Marine for several years now from small maintenance jobs to a major refit. All I can say is that the work completed has always been more than satisfactory and Mario's honesty was very refreshing. I'm not clear as to what "World T's" issues were, but there can be tricky customers in any business. After almost 10 years of trusting Mario and his team, I have no issues and have always been treated fairly and received quality work. I contacted Mario to give me an estimate to restore the inside of my Lancer 39 motorsailer about 4 months ago. He came to San Diego and went over the work that needed to be done. He was most helpful and we agreed to go ahead. In July I sailed down to Ensenada where Mario greeted me at the dock he had arranged for. He drove us over to customs and helped with all the paperwork. Over the next two and a half months Mario's craftsmen Luis, Cesar and David worked on removing all the damaged flooring and bulkheads as well as all the vinyl on ceilings and walls. I was impressed that the repairs were solid structural and not just cosmetic. Luis is a master carpenter and Cesar takes great pride in his work. Over the course there were electricians, plumbers, and Garmin instruments specialists. Many areas were required to rebuild from scratch with beautiful results. Mario sent weekly reports with pictures and was always helpful. He gladly accepted changes requested while the work was ongoing. The whole process was a pleasure and the results were just amazing.
