We were simply waiting on final feedback from the vet and felt confident about the next steps. However, we were later told that the horse had been shown to another interested party who ended up placing a deposit. At no point during our visit or follow-up were we informed that a deposit was required to secure him. We absolutely would have placed a deposit immediately if that had been communicated. We were told an email had been sent, but it was missed during a busy workday. Given how time-sensitive these situations are, a quick phone call would have made all the difference--especially since we were only contacted by phone after the horse was no longer available.  Overall, the lack of clear and timely communication was extremely frustrating and left us heartbroken. We hope this feedback encourages better communication practices in the future so other families don't have a similar experience.

Poor communication Untrained coaches…read moreDoesn't respond to phone calls or email. I was told the coach was new and doesn't know the way to do it. Yet, no one talked to her or helped fix it. My daughter passed a level and should have moved up to the next level, but no one told us. So she continues in a level that she had already passed. I was told weekly by the coach my daughter was doing great and didn't need to work on any of the skills, but the coach wasn't good at keeping track of when they could do the skill. So I keep paying money for a level that she was bored with because the coach isn't doing her job at updating the skill sheets. No thank you! I tried for 3 weeks to communicate with administration who repeatly pushed me onto someone else, or didn't return phone calls or emails. Multiple times I was asked when was the best time to reach me. I responded with M-F 4pm-10pm or Saturday's (When I wasn't working and the gym is open. Any communication (which was be try little) was in the middle of the day (when I was at work) with a message saying sorry we couldn't reach you. No answers to my questions or a remedy to fix the problems. I do NOT recommend Jam Hops in Anoka/Ramsey.

Facility is nice and employees are great, what's not so great is, the evaluation system. I understand it's some what subjective to who's doing the evaluation, but the general goal shouldn't be to maximize as much revenue as they possible can, rather considered your child's skills. It feels like the pass/repeat/fail all depends on how many kids they have registered and if they have available room or not, definitely your child's skill set isn't the primary factor. Exhibit A: our daughter tried North Wolf swimming club and passed with flying colors. She just wasn't used to the coach style learning and she was intimidated with coach yielding to other kids, she wasn't ready for that. We decided to continue with FOSS. They kept her in the same class for 3 consecutive seasons and the excuses were, she needs to work on her "breathing" or she needs to work on her hands! This is a girl that swamped the whole Olympic size swimming pool back and forth for her try out! Later we discovered they didn't have enough student registered for the next up session and the existing class is over capacity! Exhibit B: They placed a new student in their group, whom happens to be a girl my friend goes to school with. She never attended swimming lesson but she ended up in the same class as our daughter! Now you have kids with high varying degree in their skill sets and our daughter ends up not getting enough attention the instructor focuses more in monitoring others and helping others. I don't like singling out employee as they get the over arching theme instructions from the corner offices, but Alexander, floor manager, took it to the next level when I tried to approach her with our over all concerns! Her general responses was, "you telling me your concern doesn't change how we grade" paraphrased! So, this is our last session and we are taking our daughters to a different place where they can learn and excel!! PS: they charge us ~$250 per season. roughly we spend ~$750 to learn the same skill sets, the pattern has been repeat x3 per each session/season!

We've had a few headaches with the level progression. They wanted to hold my child back based on one thing he needs to work on. Then he's bored in the next session while the other kids look like beginners. I dislike that they level eval so early in the session. It seems like they don't want to pass anyone. So they get your child swimming? Yes. Its a headache sometimes that they aren't working specifically on what your child needs to work on. Frustrating. I wish they'd teach more endurance and how to tread water. They need more showers too. And as of today the pool is filthy. Like so dirty. Yuck! No wonder why my child keeps getting ear infections. Overall we continue to go as we have a pool at our House. He needs to learn to swim and nothing in the area compares.

As for specifics, NBEC offers ample pasture and paddock turn-out, horses are grouped for optimal fit and wellbeing, hay is super high-quality, the facility is available for year-round riding. This is a no-drama barn with exceptionally friendly riders and a very supportive, team-oriented culture. On-site trainers and visiting clinicians are world-class. Owners are approachable, friendly, and engaged with three of their own horses boarding and competing at the barn (i.e. they are "barn people" through and through). I happened upon NBEC by accident years ago and can't believe how lucky I am to have found it. Horse care and boarding is a big and personal decision, but if any reading this review are in the market, I couldn't more highly recommend including NBEC in your list to consider and tour. (Oh and for context, over the past 4 years I have been a catch rider, fill-in staff, and I now own and board a horse at the facility, so I've kinda been in all barn roles/ seen the ins and outs from the perspective of staff, infrequent lessonees, and horse owners).

My daughter uses the parent portal & often shares photos with me which are periodically sent to her on a daily basis. She also shared a folder that was sent home showing progress, assignments & detailing learn goals, etc. The folder was filled with photos of my granddaughter participating in assignments & activities over a period of a few months. Each section of the folder contained handwritten notes about my granddaughter's progress and I was impressed with the fact that every note was positive. I really cannot think of one thing I do not like about this facility. I highly recommend it!
