When we arrived, we were taken to a table in one of the larger rooms in the back that are more typically used for events. It was a lovely room but I preferred to be somewhere a little closer to the bar and main, older part of the building. The hostess was perfectly accommodating and this was no problem. Instead, my husband and I put in our orders at the bar while we had a drink and when our food was ready, they took us to a different table. The service was completely friendly and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a hard time choosing what to order, but settled on the fresh hake with roast potatoes, tomatoes and cauliflower puree. It was so so good. I ate everything. My husband got a steak and chips, which were perfectly cooked. The meals around ours looked very good, too. Donegan's also pulls a brilliant pint and we had both Guinness and Smithwicks. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. This was a good life choice. It was homemade Guinness bread, with the best butter I've ever had in my life, and homemade jam. I could have eaten the entire loaf of that concoction. My husband got the lunch special of beef stroganoff, which was an experience all its own. Creamy, deep flavours of beef and mushroom graced our mouths with its glorious wonder. (This was the ultimate star of the show.) I had the Chicken pesto croque, which would have been the subject of my ultimate laudation on its own if the stroganoff hadn't appeared. The staff was very kind, the food delicious, and the experience overall lovely. Highly recommend it!

Walking through the bar I was sure we were going to a seat at the back, away from the windows, but large double doors opened into a bright modern restaurant, with a wonderful view of the sea through windows that run the full length of the the dining area. The food was very nice, and the view and surroundings were pretty spectacular. The sun was shining, and two horses were cantering down the beach. We went for a stroll along the sea front after our meal. Very idyllic.
