Very limited selection of some products. For example, a family member asked me to pick up a Red Baron Brick Oven Pepperoni Frozen Pizza. A pretty common item? Not here--just do not carry it even though the Nob Hill in Gilroy does. Weird. Maybe I got off on the wrong foot here. On my first visit I tried to find the customer service desk to request a membership card to the store, but not only could not find a customer service desk, but could not find any store employees (except for one person frantically trying to check out a long line of customers). There were a number of people restocking shelves, but none of them were store employees--all of them worked for name brand companies that make the products that go on the shelf. I had to go to the Gilroy store to discover that Nob Hill does not use member cards (like Safeway), they think you can do this on a cell phone and later I found out that I could sign up online via my Chromebook and just use my phone number, but no one at the Morgan Hill store was there to answer that simple question. Because there is no member card for Nob Hill and the selection of items at this particular store seems limited, and items I frequently buy are not carried, I rarely shop Nob Hill at all and when I do want something in their ad, I go to the Gilroy store. Prices are about the same as Safeway, more than Walmart or Smart and Final or Target. The shopping center where this store is located and the parking lot is laid out strange and I just did not find it a pleasant shopping experience. read more

I love shopping at Nob Hill. They have a great meat department and deli. Their baked goods are awesome! One thing I'm really impressed with is how fresh their vegetables are all the time. They really stay on top of the quality of what is on their displays. I've experienced other chain stores having rotting vegetables as a standard. They leave things out beyond sale quality. I've never experienced this at Nob Hill. While some of their prices might be a little higher, you get what you pay for when shopping. They do have an awesome app that gives Monday $5 deals and there are always other sale coupons weekly. You can order your groceries online and have them delivered or the store will shop for you and you can go curbside and they will bring them to your car. I really like the professionalism and the consistency of this market. It's definately a five star market. read more

The Self Checkout was too difficult, so Operator #2206 rang me up, and he was great, hence the second star. The credit card reader then wouldn't take my transaction, giving the same problem as the self checkout, so I paid cash. As I mentioned the computer difficulties and frustration to the clerk, the cashier at the neighboring checkstand, a middle-aged balding guy, suddenly got some kind of attitude. He spoke to me in a very condescending manner. His carefully selected words were so faux respectful, but his tone of condescent implied he wanted me out immediately. The only time I can shop is in the morning. 20 minute long public group meetings in the deli area with every employee it seems really takes away the help I need in the meat department and even at self check out. Nob Hill might not be as big as Safeway, or as cheap as Walmart, but they always have a good variety and consistent quality. They have good foods of various cultures and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. The birthday cakes have always been great quality and we've had several of them over the past few years. We were told today that the bakery items are in low supply especially if you show up after 11am. Not sure why, but I guess you can always put an order in ahead of time. But if you're last minute, you might be rolling the dice right now. Hardly a deal breaker though, especially considering how ridiculous the job market is right now (July 2022) and the difficulty employers are having hiring workers. (Not sure if that's the reason here, but still) Let the nay sayers say nay and shop elsewhere. More room and available items for the rest of us! LOL! I love this Nob Hill Foods. Clean, lots of products that I can't find in other grocery stores. The hot bar is excellent as is the sushi if you get there before it all sells out. I love that I can find foods that I usually have to go to Whole Foods for but at a fraction of the cost. The staff are so nice and go above and beyond for the customers. They are genuinely nice and actually seem to enjoy their job which is refreshing. read more

I don't give Nob Hill enough credit. It can do almost everything Safeway can do, but I rarely go there. I think it's because of my upbringing. My parents were and still are Safeway shoppers. It's all I ever knew as a kid. When you need groceries, you go to Safeway. It's not surprise that I turned out to be a Safeway shopper when I grew up. Maybe if I was more of a rebellious child, I would have shopped at Nob Hill when I grew up just to go against the grain. I've never been too rebellious though, I stuck with what I knew and that's Safeway. I felt safe at Safeway. Shopping anywhere else would have been completely out of my comfort zone. It's not like my parents had anything against Nob Hill. They wouldn't talk poorly about Nob Hill shoppers or anything, at least not that I'm aware of. They just rarely shopped there and I didn't ask any questions. I'm not a Nob Hill shopper, but I'm sure if I told them that I shop at Nob Hill they wouldn't mind. They would probably be confused/concerned that I felt the need to share that information with them, but they wouldn't mind. I hope that I wouldn't mind either if my kids end up becoming Nob Hill shoppers. It may not be where I shop, but that doesn't make it any better or worse, just different. Maybe they would be able to share their knowledge and experience from shopping at Nob Hill and I could do the same for Safeway. We could both learn and grow from each other. Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm glad I expanded my horizons and got dessert from Nob Hill. *UPDATE* I WAS RIGHT. Never received refund. Just to check and see how the deli department would respond to me asking for chicken strips again today, I was told they didn't have any. I was there before noon and there were two ladies on duty that were rude and hurried. What is the excuse this time? It's not like I continuously order pounds and pounds of chicken. Are you understaffed? Do people not know how to cook chicken? Is there No one who really checks the orders at e-cart either? Nob Hill is a bit smaller and a bit more expensive, but it has higher end items. If I want an exotic expensive vanilla, they have a wonderful selection. Safeway does not have the higher end imported items because it is for the masses - it is big and anonymous. Nob Hill foods on the other hand has very friendly workers, not a lot of turnover, I see the same people for years and I like that. The foods are a higher quality, the produce is better, the meats are better quality. If you want higher quality items, a smaller store, friendly people, Nob Hill foods is excellent. It is not as expensive or as big as Whole Foods, but the quality and selection is there. Plus they wore masks longer to protect their customers, as an older cancer survivor I appreciate that, they care about me and are working to keep me safe. Beautiful meats! Before moving to Morgan Hill last April, I had never been to a Nob Hill or Raley's market. To my delight, I discovered that it was like a mix between Safeway and Whole Foods, a good market with all the essentials, plus more! I especially enjoy the quality of baked goods and health food selection. I have found many things here that I haven't been able to find at other markets. The market is always clean and tidy, and I haven't run into any problems with customer service. I definitely recommend signing up for their 'Something Extra' rewards program, I have gotten many coupons for items that I normally purchase! read more

Well, I finally got around to doing a late, but an honest review of ol' NOB HILL. As someone who grew up in Morgan Hill since the 1970's, I have poignant memories of the store that was an institution here, as well as in Gilroy. What do I have to say about NOB HILL? Well, as previously mentioned I used to remember shopping at their original store in Morgan Hill, which formerly was in the shopping center at the corner of West Main & Hale Avenues on the west side of town. This space is currently occupied by Regions Mexican supermarket. When I was just a kid going to grade school in the mid to late 70's, the three BONFANTIE brothers, the founding owners, ran this this store. Back then, it was a small town grocer, but it was well known for its personal service. In those days, the baggers would ALWAYS bring out the bags of groceries to your car, and load it for you. Nob Hill also stood for quality. The BONFANTIE clan took their meats and produce seriously and only sourced the very freshest, best quality foods around. Most everything at Nob Hill back then was hand picked for freshness and quality. I always heard people tell me when I was growing up that the best steaks, meats, vegetables, fruits. and baked goods were always at Nob Hill... Yes, that small town grocer, family owned and operated... The Bonfantie brothers ran the store for well over 40 years. and over those years the fledgling chain that began in Morgan Hill and Gilroy grew and grew. By the 1980's they already had several locations around central California. By the late 1990's, the chain had grown to nearly at 50 stores. After a long run. the main founder, Michael Bonfantie sold out to Raley's Supermarkets based in Sacramento. They were much larger and looking to expand, so they purchased all the Nob Hill stores to add to their brings. Raley's decided to keep the Nob Hill name because they knew the store had such a great reputation in days gone by... Ok, so I covered a synopsis of what this store was about, and what happened to it. Sadly, like all good things in life, some things go away. Unfortunately, Raley's being far larger, run their stores just like most typical big grocers do. They are all pretty much the same, mediocre, typical. You know them well: Albertsons, Safeway, Kroger, SaveMart, Winco, etc... I last visited Nob Hill at their Morgan Hill Vineyard store a few months ago... I wasn't impressed. At all. In fact, I was a bit disappointed at both the selection, and to find the prices on average were just as high, if not more than the local Safeway.. The goods on offer weren't of the quality I remember, or really unique. They were just mostly the same items you'd find in just about any other grocery foods store. In other words, I didn't see much of anything that set Nob Hill apart from just an average store. Bland, and boring. The decor and layout of the store didnt impress me much. Also the demographic customer that used to shop at Nob Hill back in the day, usually older, over 50, affluent, and discerning. I didn't see those types of people this time like I did in years gone by. Did Raley's ruin Nob Hill? Well. I wouldn't be the judge of that. This review is only my opinion, which is only shaped by experiencing the "old" and "new" versions of this once iconic supermarket that's now only fading memories of times gone by. read more

I really hate coming in Nob Hill sometimes. Staff isn't so friendly to a certain kind and I mean wont say hello when passing by or during check-in. A few months ago it happened to me and I stop coming in, and today it happened to me with demitrio (I think that's how you spell it) . The Person before me got a hello how are you have a good day and conversation. When Covid hit, my wife and I (wife is late 70's, I'm 82) isolated ourselves and immediately began using Nob Hills pick up service. It was a new thing and I worked closely with the your team leader and followed directions exactly, Many problems were .because of your policy such as the number of things which would show up online, I would order, and be told they weren't carried at my Nob Hill Store. It was pointed out that I could always bring a pre-signed receipt attached to my box and avoid that contact. Each week thereafter, I did that. I was careful about my comments describing what I especially needed (3 bananas attached to each other, any plain non-fat yogurt etc.) When items were not available, I received a call and either dropped it of got something different,I thought we had a workable system-but then , a couple of weeks ago I was told that upper management had changed all this. There would be NO more phone calls, and all acceptable substitutions had to be listed exactly in the comments section. This last is very difficult because not all alternatives you carry show up on the computer screen. My method of writing comments was no longer acceptable. I have thought about this pretty hard and decided I will now be using Safeway, which is closer to my house and is open at 5am. Nob Hill is a good store run by good people, but management needs to understand what is important to your customers. I have had to change my menus before because I got a c all that one of my key ingredients was not available. That call not coming now means I can't proceed cooking meals until I do my pickup because I will not know what I'm getting, Good luck to everyone. Since the pandemic began, the quality of service has deteriorated tremendously. We have been shopping here since 1979 and have heard that there is a new manager since last year. Not only has the quality and selection of food declined but the attitude of the employees has also declined. They use to be so friendly. Most importantly, Nob Hill is not following pandemic protocol with the sanitization of their carts. All other stores in the area clearly separate the sanitized carts from those that are not. I was informed by the employee that they wait until the cart area is full before doing so, but in the mean time people have to get unclean carts they need to use one. Then they just spray the carts from the bottle in the air above them...hardly effective. Wish they were more concerned about our health during these times. read more

This place is awesome they have a peanut butter machine that crushes the peanuts and makes peanut butter on the spot in seconds. All you do is lower the lever. They have a ton of drinks and a ton of different meat and seafood. Vast selection of all the food you can think of. The sandwiches that are freshly made at the deli are all made to order. I love this store. The place is always fully stocked and clean. Its a pretty big store so it takes some time to get what you need to get in the store. Unless your a speed racer like me =) The deli is my absolute favorite here in Nob Hill. Everything is always made so fresh and delicious that i used to come here once a week for the Santa Cruz deli sandwich. There are many others and are all great. Plus you can get those huge fountain drinks you pour yourself for cheap. A huge plus. The meat section always has everything im looking for except ground chicken. I sugest going to Walmart for that. If your looking for marinated meat then i suggest Mi Pueblo. The Nob Hill in Morgan Hill is the best place to go to for quality decorated cakes btw. They all have a large selection of cake decorations. There is a bank and a PO Box area located inside this Nob Hill so it makes it very convenient to become a one stop shop. read more

"Sustainable Seafood" at Raley's is NOT SUSTAINABLE!!! They are knowingly defrauding their customers. I grew up shopping at Nob Hill; I got to know some of the long-time employee's way back when I was a kid and the store was located on Main Street in Morgan Hill. Even though lower priced options moved into town, I was always loyal to Nob Hill - they had better products, the staff was really nice and most of them had been there a long time - which made for great service. NO MORE! Raley's recently started an advertising campaign regarding "sustainable seafood." I was very interested in this, as I am a big supporter of the Monterey Seafood Watch. Then I saw the "Sustainable" label in Raley's on Farmed Atlantic salmon. Anyone educated - or even interested - in sustainable seafood knows that Farmed Atlantic Salmon is horrible for the environment and the wild salmon population. I emailed headquarters asking if this was some mistake, or if there was possibly a development that I was unaware of. NOPE! I got an email back from "Joseph R. Johnson - Seafood Category Manager". In the email, he stated that he KNOWS that Monterey Seafood Watch has NOT taken Farmed Atlantic Salmon off of the Red List - The WORST CHOICE regarding sustainable seafood! But Raley's continues to label it sustainable anyways!! What else are they lying about? He blabbered on about the salmon industry's intentions and efforts, and about Raley's dreamy eyed ideas of ... [ projecting the impression of ] ... wholesome sustainable food. (Obviously, they only care that their customers THINK the food is sustainable - and it doesn't really matter if in fact, it IS NOT.) But even the unproven, weaker standards of "sustainability" that Raley's seems to think is "Good Enough" don't have to be reached by their suppliers until the year 2020!! Even the LOW STANDARDS haven't been met, so why does the salmon carry the "sustainable" label NOW!?!? Since Raley's took over Nob Hill, there has been a steady decline. The gradual change in products and employee's is not overlooked, and the service has really dropped. No more friendly neighborhood grocery store! This last issue of Raly's blatantly LYING about what is sustainable seafood, and acknowledging their lie without apology, is unforgivable. I primarily shop at Trader Joe's, Safeway and Nob Hill in MH. I find produce here to be fresh and plentiful. Their California Golden chicken salad in the deli is so yummy! The staff are friendly. My favorite service is grocery pick up. I can shop from the comfort of my home and shop pragmatically without impulse buys. Last time I placed a pick up order we were coming back from being out of town and had no groceries. While in the road I placed my order and we stopped on the way home. So convenient! I think this is part of the Raley's chain but what a shock to the nose if you enter from the north side doors. The fresh seafood section REALLY grabs your noses attention and makes the rest of the visit smell like seafood. Even weirder is they have MORE seafood (I'm guessing previously frozen) in the back with the meats? Prices are way too high, come on $6.99 for butter. This is the Gilroy-based grocery chain I grew up on. (I grew up in South San Jose and went to the Nob Hill on Santa Teresa Blvd. and Bernal Rd., but I haven't been there in so many years, so I thought I would review this one.) Their selection is great. I love their Sunnyside vendor of Orange Juice. Their groceries are a little pricey, since they cater to local products, but not like Wholefoods' wallet-scorching prices. They remodeled this place recently to compete with the new Safeway on Tennant Station, and I still love this place. Their new design shows paintings mirroring local California farms to emphasize their commitment to local fresh groceries. The place is small and easy to navigate. It's not large like the one in Gilroy, but it has a good selection. The produce are always fresh and the people are extremely nice. They actually offer to push your cart to your car and help load your groceries in. My favorite Nob Hill pastime is getting free cookies at the bakery. Unfortunately, I'm not longer a little kid, so that probably wouldn't fly anymore. This is the definition of a grocery store right here. read more

Up until recently I would have rated this location a solid 4 star and maybe even a 5 star. I have been a long time customer of the Morgan Hill store and have, unfortunately, noticed over the last year or so that they are starting to slip. I picked up two small "cakes for two" from the bakery. When it was time to get the dessert ready to serve I noticed that the icings was a bit stiff so I decided to take a small bit to see what was wrong. When I tried to take a bite with a fork it was difficult to slice off a piece. I had to put a lot of pressure on it to get a piece off. When I tasted it I felt like I was eating a piece off one of those wedding cakes that bakeries have displayed in the window, which has been sitting there for years. I checked the label on the containers and both were 6 days old. Bakeries are supposed to be fresh. Not 6 days old for goodness sakes!!!! My wife returned them to the Gilroy store since we live here and asked to speak with the Manager. He said, with a smile and a great amount of pride, that his store is better and we should have bought it from there. My wife asked him what she would find if she checked the expiration date on the items in his bakery and his smile vanished. I am happy to say that we got a full refund. I still like Nob Hill, albeit a little less, but now I will always ask how old something in the bakery is before I buy it. read more
