Best sandwiches hands down in Litchfield county. Don't believe me? Try for yourself! Loaded perfect BLTs, pastrami, and only the finest cured meats and preservatives. My favorites are easily the andouille spicy hot dogs, cured duck breast's, and kielbasa.

Trust your GPS, because when you arrive at 39 North Street you won't see Nodine's Smokehouse at all. If you're paying attention, what you will see are some signs directing you to a driveway in an ordinary looking neighborhood, and if you take that driveway you'll see the Smokehouse maybe 75 feet away. You will definitely not see it from the street. I've had Nodine's Smokehouse bookmarked for two years, basically because I seldom get out to Litchfield County. I remember Yelpers raving about their beef jerky and bacon and the like. At the Goshen Stampede today, I passed a booth that sold dozens of kinds of jerky, but I summoned up my willpower and resisted because I knew we were pretty close to Nodine's and figured this was my golden opportunity to check out their Yelp famous jerky. Truth is.... I was underwhelmed. At $48 a pound, I expected to be wowed. They offered one variety and I thought it was just ordinary and nothing special. We also picked up a pound of their Applewood Bacon, and in fairness, I have to say that bacon was freaking great ! . All in all, our quarter pound of jerky and pound of bacon ran us $22.40. If you're a bacon lover, you'll probably love Nodine's version.

So sadly, even though I've been in Goshen for years, today was the first time I've been to Nodine's. It's so cute! There's not a lot of room in the store, it's not a sit down place, but it has all the fun, local, food things you never knew you needed. I've never seen so many smoked cheeses in my life, and I'd like to try all of them. New Year's will be the perfect opportunity to try out their sweet and hot wings. They have a deli as well, they had posted about six sandwich offerings but I'm sure would customize as they have available. They did have some premade items that looks and smelled delicious - sausage and cheese baked into bread? The only downside is they posted each have onions, so if you like onions, this is the place for you. The two women working were really nice, offered to help me find anything, and made the adventure very pleasant. When you go down the driveway (because Nodine's is located behind a big white house), the shop is on your left. Be careful coming in and out, because there really is only room for one car at a time (especially in the snow).

Turkey and cheese on a hard roll. Yum!

Came up from Southington, Ct. for the jerky but their great turkey sandwiches. Amazing!!

Had a great pastrami Reuben, made super hot and fresh as I watched. The price was fair for the amount of food. Worth a repeat visit.

They don't wear masks while cutting the meat and they just put Trump signs out front. Too bad--they just lost a long time customer.

From the moment you see the elegant vintage sign and bright red double doors, you know you're in for something authentic. The interior feels warm and welcoming, with a big, clear menu board that makes ordering easy. They have a solid selection of hot and cold sandwiches, breakfast options, and coffee. I went with one of their specials -- it looked like a chicken cutlet or eggplant variation with fresh greens (possibly arugula), roasted red peppers or similar, and what appeared to be a touch of egg or cheese. Whatever it was, it was excellent. The sandwich came on a perfect crusty Italian roll -- the bread was fresh with a great chew and slight crisp on the outside. The fillings were generous, flavorful, and well-balanced. The greens added a nice peppery bite that cut through the richness of the protein and any sauces. It was one of those sandwiches where every bite tastes just as good as the last. Service was friendly and efficient (the guy behind the counter was busy but still took time to make sure everything was right). The place has that old-school deli atmosphere mixed with modern touches -- exactly what you want when you're craving a quality sandwich. If you're in the area and looking for a no-nonsense, delicious deli sandwich made with care, Petraroia Deli is worth a visit. I'll definitely be back to try more from the hot sandwich list (the Porchetta and Chicken Cordon Bleu both caught my eye). Pro tip: Check their hours -- they appear to be closed on Mondays. *Highly recommend the fried artichoke sandwich. .

I'd honestly give it a 4.5 if that were possible, but since 4 felt too low, I'm rounding up. It was stellar. The spot itself is super quaint, tucked into a charming little rural town that seriously felt like it belonged on a Hallmark movie set. The staff were incredibly friendly and helped us choose our order, which was much appreciated. I went with the classic Italian combo, and it was absolute perfection. Seriously, a sandwich doesn't get better than this. The meat-to-bread ratio was spot on, and the mix of mayo with oil and vinegar added amazing flavor. The bread was just right--chewy enough to have a nice pull, but soft enough that it didn't fall apart or make the sandwich hard to eat. Highly recommend. We also tried the turkey club, which was tasty but not quite as successful due to the ciabatta bread. It was a bit too hard, and the fillings kept sliding out, making it tough to eat. Still, the flavors were great, and I was pleasantly surprised by the mustard. I wasn't expecting it on a club, but it worked well. Overall, would definitely come back!

This wonderful little grocery / cafe soft opened three months ago in January -- and I'm furious…read morewith myself for driving by it four times a weekend for so long without checking it out! Located at the funny intersection of CT-4 and CT-7 (where from certain directions you have to craaaaaaanne your neck to see if there's oncoming traffic) and just a short drive away from Mohawk Mountain, this bright, clean newcomer is small, but absolutely chock full of wonders. What we tried of the menu was truly excellent and it makes me wonder who is hiding out in the kitchen, here. Whoever it is has mad skills.* - The chicken, white bean and kale soup ($8) was clearly made from scratch, with care, the broth clean, rich, and flavorful. - Thai steak salad (grilled skirt, spicy aromatic herbs, parched rice, tangy dressing; $12) had no business being this good given that it's from a tiny general store in a tiny town in CT. This Isaan-style classic was surprisingly legit, pungent with fish sauce, packed full of lemongrass, lime juice, mint, and other herbs. It wasn't Isaan spicy (which quite literally makes me cry... but happy tears), but it was spicy. The steak was perfectly tender / chewy, sliced a little more thickly than I personally prefer for this preparation -- but of course that's a matter of preference. I would've loved to have had this with sticky rice. (I noticed after the fact that you can get a side of rice for $2. Next time!) - A hazelnut tiramisu tart ($7) had a nice, crisp crust; coffee-laced cream; possibly marzipan as part of the filling; and crisp hazelnuts on top. The adults thought it was lovely, but the kids are still extremely partial to the baked goods at Wilson's in nearby Kent. The produce in the case (lettuce and other greens, winter root vegetables like radishes, turnips, and sweet potatoes) were very fresh, gorgeous to behold. Pricing was reasonable, e.g. what you'd pay at a farm stand or farmer's market, though of course more than what you'd pay at a grocery chain. There were lovely looking cheeses and butters in the fridge, too, Ronnybrook Farm yogurt, dried chilis, spices, tea and coffee, maple syrup, and even ceramics made by a local artist alongside a few household contraptions. The staff were REALLY nice (and very fashionable, I should add) and there are two clean, all-gender bathrooms -- pretty impressive for such a small place. There are just a few tables set up for eating in, and a counter with bar stools in a side room -- but when the weather warms, we'll enjoy taking this beautiful food to the picnic tables at Kent Falls. * I'll answer my own question. Based on my shameless Google stalking, it looks like the chefs are Tyler Forve, who per this website (https://www.cornwallmarket.com/), trained under several "Michelin level chefs in the San Francisco Bay area" and CIA-trained sous chef Emma Terhaar (https://lakevillejournal.com/country-market-reopens-with-fresh-take-on-local-food). Chef Terhaar is also a food writer with some strong thoughts on burgers: https://thetakeout.com/author/emmaterhaar.

Lettuce, tomato, onion. And if the vinegar was used, it was completely without flavor or color. I'm used to a couple more meats than that and occasionally a meat get la a layer or two more than another.
