They have a cookie and dessert area, premade items, a select other hot menu (that I'm sure changes) but had stuffed breads and lasagna etc. . For the sandwiches now, the bread was fresh, good‑sized, and slightly crisp on the outside, with a soft, chewy center that holds everything together without falling apart. It has that perfect give when you press it -- firm enough to support weight, but not so hard that you're fighting it with your jaw. The meat and toppings were fresh. What can I not say about this amazing spot? When you walk in there , you're immediately greeted by the most unbelievable staff out there. It isn't just a sandwich that you're buying or a salad , you're buying the experience , the whole package deal . I was searching the interwebs to find the best sandwiches in the Waterbury area as we passed through, and Noochie's seemed the recommended place to try. It did not disappoint! First off the customer service was spot on, 5 stars all the way!! We tried the 'something nice' grinder .. and it was a delight! The balsamic plays beautifully with the chicken, eggplant and arugula, with a slight heat from the long hot. The chicken is not hot but not 'cold' - still delicious!! I got my son a grilled cheese on a Kaiser - the roll was a soft pillowy delight. We're excited to share the broccoli raab and sausage stuffed bread with friends this eve. This was my third visit to Noochies. The previous visits were great. Today, not so much. I ordered a sandwich that is usually served hot, but did not request that. On my previous visit, I had ordered the same sandwich and had quite a discussion with the preparer that I did not want it heated. I did not feel I needed to explain to him I was not eating it at that time, but was taking it home for dinner. At the time, he told me "in his 7-8 years of doing this, he has never made this sandwich without heating it". Today, the sandwich was given to me at the register. It was heated. I commented that I did not want it heated. I was willing to take it as prepared, but the cashier hesitantly said they would remake it. The preparer called over from the counter the same thing he said to me on my second visit. It was embarrassing. The numerous people in the deli turned around and stared at me. This is a popular neighborhood deli in which most people are addressed by their first names. While I am not one of them, was it really necessary for him to embarrass me like that? Can I get an amen? Another really good deli place in Waterbury has opened. Noochie's is owned by the ever well known household name of the D'Amelio family in the town plot section of Waterbury. It now calls home the old building on America street that was once home to Avventura. The inside looks different yet the same. It's a very welcoming atmosphere. The deli just opened yesterday and today when we went, Gianni had run out of all grinders and only had a small reserve of hard rolls left by 5:30PM and they are open until 8. My husband and I both got the Noochie sandwich, which is just an Italian combo but they are doing something right. It was absolutely delicious. The dinner to go was manicotti and meatballs for $12.95. Our bills for two rolls and the dinner to go was $28. I cannot wait to go back! read more

Comically expensive and terribly slow! Food was just okay. I'm used to great delis, like Gaetano's, Ray & Mike's, Cavallo's and P&M. Then there is the issue of price! $11.00 for a buffalo chicken grinder! This would run only $8.00 at Ray and Mike's! Staff was nearly as emotionless as a Mark Zuckerberg memes. Let's just start this off by getting something clear here, I am a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Deli guy. I mean I love them, in any shape or form or location. Without exaggeration, I've eaten at every single deli within 20 minutes of me. Now that we've got that covered, let's move on. Bearing in mind the above, you could understand my excitement level when I heard a new deli was opening and opening in my favorite Waterbury neighborhood EVER. Top that off with the fact that is was being run by one of the most legendary Waterbury foodie families ever just made this a no brainer. The D'Amelio family also happens to run a restaurant of the same name that is what I consider to be the best dining establishment in the city, but I was dead set on going into this unbiased. This wasn't a high-end Italian eatery, this was an old school Italian Deli, and they had something to prove. My son and I arrived at about 12:30 on a Tuesday and the place was pretty hopping with a fair amount of cars lining the street. GOOD SIGN! We were immediately greeted by the owners and instantaneously felt right at home. Good dining joints are about the food, clearly. But the atmosphere and the overall vibe of the place is just as important in my opinion, and this place nailed it about 30 seconds in. We had already studied the menu and knew what we wanted and they took our order right away. We went with a Noochie on a roll and an Engine 11 grinder to eat in, and a Noochie wrap and Joey D. to go for our ladies at home. They offered us seats either in the cafe' or bar around the corner. We opted for some window seats in the cafe', but the bar looked AMAZING. Next time! Considering the amount of traffic, they got our food out more than quickly enough. Absolutely on point with the service, it was almost like they knew what they were doing! (Spoiler alert, they do.) On to the food, because that's what we're all here. Let's just be honest here, anyone can take a piece of bread and toss in some cold cuts and call it a sandwich, or a grinder, or whatever you call it in your town. We call it a grinder, but I digress. The point is, it seems like such a simple thing that there's almost no way to do it better and set yourself apart from the 100's of others around you. There actually is though. Fresh ingredients used in the perfect proportions with the perfect balance of toppings assembled into the perfect piece of bread. The bread is sometimes an afterthought, but it shouldn't be and they understand that here. The bread is the vehicle man! But even with the best bread in the world, the meats have to be on point, and they were amazing. Hand's down, no joke, and no hesitation; the best sandwich I've ever eaten in my life. The son agreed, and we both agreed we will never go to another deli again. At this point, there's really no reason to! The concenus was that this place was like one of those amazing Deli's we've seen on the food channels and wished was within striking distance. Wish granted. Again, this was our first visit so we only scratched the surface here. They also offered pre-made salads and meals to go along with a case full of some just completely amazing looking baked goods. And again, the whole bar area offer's a completely different level of dining nirvana. This place has got a lot going for it, and it's run by some amazing people in an amazing part of Waterbury. It is our civic duty to help Noochie's prosper, and whether you're 30 or 3 minutes away, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. If you are, I will personally cover your meal. Gianni and Justine's son Gianfranco will be running the new family deli, Noochie's Deli & Cafe. The D'Amelio family began with a successful deli that they later on turned into the current fine dining restaurant, D'Amelio's Italian Eatery. Giuseppe and Gianni have created one of the best Italian restaurants in the state. They're also one of the best caterers in the state Their exceptional work ethic has been past onto Gianfranco and all the staff at D'Amelio's and Noochies. I knew Noochies Deli & Cafe would be nice but they went above and beyond my expectations. It was a complete remodel of the former Avventura location. Besides the deli, they added a beautiful bar area with big screen tvs and plenty of seating. Noochies offers a great menu of hot and cold grinders, salads, stuffed breads, pastries, cookies, espresso, and much more. I had the Joey D on a hard roll. Tender veal cutlet with fresh mozzerella, sauteed broccoli rabe and italian long hot peppers with a Blue Point Toasted Lager beer. The Joey D is one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. Stopped at Noochies today for the first time. We shared an eggplant grinder and got a bunch of treats. Nice little clean market area as well as a bar/restaurant area. You can tell it's a family business which we really liked. My only complaint was the Grinder was missing the crunch factor of fresh fried eggplant or toasted bread so it was a little on the mushy side. But the flavor was there. The lemon cookie I got was delicious and I can't wait to try the rice pudding later! read more
