Many other riding instructors are average horsemen with no clue about teaching and mysteriously high yelp reviews. I didn't realize how bad my previous instructor was before I had a few lessons with Sam. Now I can appreciate all the qualities I was missing out on that Sam has... * Tailors her teaching to each of her students learning style * Teaches novice to seasoned riders from 5 to 55 * Communicative * Encouraging and Supportive * Always Patient * Fun * Everything is a Learning moment * Safety first * Reliable * Even tempered * Emotionally Mature * Exerienced * Always friendly Sam is focused on the well being of all horses and each of her students. She gives every lesson her full attention. I've never left wondering "did that count as a lesson?" Thank you Sam Fossom for helping me realize my lifelong dream of becoming a natural horseman. P.S. I took a bunch of vidis of Sam teaching but unfortunately Yelp only lets you upload photos. One vidi was of her awesome floater, Eddie, who's super kind and knowledgeable. You can contact Sam for his info.

I contacted Lynn because I wanted to get instruction and have a positive trail experience with an expert. Lynn exceeded my expectations! My own horse is boarded at another stable, so I was matched with a safe and experienced trail horse belonging to Lynn's assistant. My lessons started with a short introduction to my horse in the arena followed by a short trail ride. Subsequent lessons took us farther into the trail system. Lynn knows the trails like the back of her hand and chose trails that challenged me but did not overface me. She freely shares her extensive knowledge about trail riding technique, trail etiquette, and safety. We saw lots of beautiful scenery. Encounters with deer, mountain bikes, hikers, courting peacocks, squealing children in trees, and joggers with mylar balloons all came off without incident, thanks to Lynn and Star, the perfect trail horse. Lynn offers private instruction, group lessons, and horse care. I had a great experience and recommend Strand Training Center without reservation!

BEWARE -- when the pony pees, it is a strong and long stream that bounces high off the ground and onto your child...WITHOUT WARNING. So have your child stay several feet away from the rear of a pony , unless your child wants a face splash. Otherwise the young one loved the pony ride which lasted 3-4 minutes (2 laps). Kids can choose between a slow walk to a trot on the pony....usually older kids would choose the trot and younger ones would like to ride on a walking pony. I would not recommend the pony rides at Irvine Regional Park after our experience…read more We went toward the end of the day and waited in line for about an hour with our young daughter. While we were waiting, an attendant told us we needed a ticket. Someone who was leaving the line sold us their unused ticket, so we thought we were good to go. After waiting all that time, when we finally reached the front, the employee suddenly told us our daughter couldn't ride because we also needed to complete a waiver. Nobody had mentioned a waiver during the entire hour we were standing there, including when the attendant specifically told us what we needed. Because it was already toward the end of the day, their failure to tell us about the waiver essentially wasted our entire opportunity for our daughter to ride. Instead of acknowledging the miscommunication, the employee became argumentative and accused my postpartum wife of yelling at her, which she was not. We asked to speak with the owner, expecting him to handle it professionally. He was even more rude and dismissive and threatened to call a park ranger over what should have been a very simple customer-service issue. We weren't asking for special treatment. We waited an hour and followed the instructions their own employee gave us. The staff handled the situation poorly, and the owner's behavior made it considerably worse. Very disappointing experience, especially with a young child who had waited that long to ride. We won't be returning.
