I just got an AMAZING massage here... Had the Lifebooker deal for $29 for a one hour Swedish Aromatherapy massage. I was confused as to where I was going because it's a house basically. But she has transformed it into a lovely treatment room... first class massage table, great lighting, good quality blankets and soothing music. I for sure got a full hour massage and probably more. Gigi quickly found the trouble spots and worked them out. It was bliss. And the oils she used were incredible... This was one of the best massages I've ever had. Gigi's facials are amazing. I can't speak for "the best in LA" or anything like that but it really was a great experience. Because it was my first visit and first facial, Gigi added several extra services, e.g., lip mask and a peel. She just made it an all-around positive experience. The thing that drew me to Gigi versus other salons was the nice balance between professionalism and pricing. If you are looking for a splashy, bliss spa atmosphere you will want to choose a different vendor. This was clean, friendly, and private. Gigi did a brow and eyelash tint, also my first, and it looks very natural. Read: I don't suddenly look like the female version of Groucho Marx and for this I am quite grateful. I really really wanted to give Gigi 5 stars. I feel bad having to write this review. I want to say first and foremost, that Gigi is extremely sweet and friendly, so this is why I am feeling torn even writing this review. After seeing all the 5 star reviews from others I thought that people should know what to expect before they go in for their appointment. I have worked in the spa industry for over 3 years. I have tried hole in the wall places, and 5star high end day spas. I don't like saying I'm spoiled when it comes to the spa experience, but the truth is that I am. I purchased a living social voucher FOR A DEEP PORE CLEANSING FACIAL, and I was torn between 3 other facial deals on the site. With the reviews of NoHo Facials I decided to go with Gigi. I had been looking forward to this for over 3 weeks, I had just gotten slight hormonal acne, and small blackheads on my cheeks. I was ready to get a face revamp done. I arrived 15 minutes early to my appointment time (my appt was 9:30am), which is usually mandatory so you can fill out paperwork prior to your service (at usual places). Luckily I got there earlier because like many previous yelped stated, her place (apartment) is hard to find. She was still getting out of bed when I showed up at her front door, the facial bed was set up in the middle of her freezing cold living room. I am extremely allergic to cats too, and of course she had one, the living room smelled like cat and there was fur everywhere. I have extreme asthma that almost killed me, and a stage 3 cat allergy that could trigger my asthma. I figured if I got short of breath I could leave. But, I should have known that this was a bad start, and I should leave. But I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I get onto the bed as she instructed me to do, shivering as I pulled the sheets over my body onto my chest trying to warm up. She came out and put on her ipod, and went to work. She used freezing cold water to wash my face, and then put the steam on. After the steam which was only about 3 minutes, she put more cold water on my face (which completely shrinks the pores up preventing proper extractions) she then put on creams and masks, and didn't perform ANY extractions at all. Meanwhile during the facial there was a wind outside that kept slamming her screen door agains the wall. I was PISSED but I kept my cool. She finished up and I asked if she does eyebrow and lash tint for extra. She said she did and I agreed to have it done. WHY DID I AGREE TO THIS? ILL NEVER KNOW. She started tinting my lashes, the dye got in my eye and burned so badly she had to keep squiring water in it. She finished the eye brows, and said she was done and that I looked beautiful. I got up and looking into the mirror, there was still cherry mask caked on various places of my face, and my eyebrows were so dark that It looked unnatural. I was scared, and I tried not to cry. So I paid and left. She has really wonderful stories about celebrities she knows, about yoga, and other things, she was easy to talk to and I enjoyed her company. However I was really really really disappointed in the environment and the facial itself. P.S. I had photos of the AFTER but I deleted them in fear of writing this post. Ms. Gigi and her esthetician business called "NoHo Facials" is a wonderful place. I purchased 3 facials off of the deal site Lifebooker and gave one of them to my mom as her Christmas present. I called her the day before we wanted the facials and she booked us at the time we requested - even sending an email confirmation - which I appreciated. I was a bit wary at first when I came up to the place as it's a little bungalow apartment - but upon walking in the door, the entire room was set up (even nicer) than a regular spa room! Furry, soft blankets on the massage bed, a comfy couch to wait on (we had our facials back-to-back), pleasant music, and beautiful tall mirror at the end of the room helped the ambiance achieve maximum "zen". We were greeted and offered bottles of water, while mom hopped on the furry-blanketed table first. Gigi customized her facial with organic products and added a glycolic peel at no extra cost. My mom was very satisfied with the facial and loved the way her skin felt (even today, two days later). I'm a bit harder to please and have had many facials before, but I was also very impressed with my facial from Gigi. She worked with my specific skin issues and created a custom paprika "heat" fruit mask that helped to bring more color to my complexion. Well...it worked! My mom and I came to Gigi by way of LivingSocial. We had a voucher for a one-hour deep pore-cleansing facial and peel, sugar scrub lip treatment, and collagen eye mask. My mom is examining her face right now, she said it feels tighter and we both agree it looks clean and brighter. My face, after the treatment, was red and stinging but I had the same results as my mom. If you have sensitive skin maybe just let Gigi know. I appreciated that Gigi took time to explain some of the ingredients in the products and how they help your skin. My mom is a registered nurse who worked for a dermatologist for about 12 years. She's a fan of Gigi and appreciated that Gigi's treatment was professional and clean. Gigi's place is in a residential area in a bungalow. Gigi is my skin guru! I first went to her on a groupon for brow waxing & shaping about two years ago. She did brilliant work and really knew her stuff from the get go. I love the products she uses, and she is always learning new techniques and discovering great new products. I made my app. With Gigi almost a month ahead, and I confirmed the app. with her on the day of. When I arrived to the business (5 min) early, I called her and texted her first. The doors were locked and there was no sign or anything. I didn't know if I was at the right place. I waited and started knocking on the door. No response. I called couple more times but I've got the answering machine every time. I stood outside on the sidewalk in NoHo for another 15 min, and I decided to leave. Just when I got inside of my car, Gigi called me and said "Hi, did you call me?" "....." I took a deep breath in (trying to use my breathing exercise from my yoga class to calm me down) and told her that I had an app. 15 min ago and I am outside. Then she told me she will unlock the back door and I can come through and wait another 10 min. NO apology what so ever. I was getting upset. I said " Really? I have to wait another 10 min? That's ridiculous!" Then she told me "Oh, it's because I am just finishing up with a customer now. She was little late for her app. She is a very special customer. " Still NO apology. I told her I don't want to wait. She said "Okay, I have my customer waiting for me so I gotta get back." and she hung up. How rude! I was furious! And not only I drove all the way there to be insulted that way, now I had to deal with the traffic to go home from there at that hour. If I am paying someone for a nice relaxing facial, massage or manicure, I expect the business to be prepared to take the customer at the promised app. time. If they run late, they should at least let you inside and offer you to sit down while you wait. Also explain what's going on and APOLOGIZE for the delay, even if it isn't their fault (Gigi said the other customer was late for her app. And NO apology). Luckily this is definitely the first time this kind of thing happened to me, and I hope it won't ever happen again. Read my other reviews on two other estheticians (stone skincare and Good skin LA), they were amazing! I was just trying different people out, but I guess this is what I get for doing that. I received a voicemail later from Gigi and she told me she's free now and I can come anytime. "???" She also said she was sorry that she didn't hear me knocking. Okay, I was fine with that. Even though her apology was about 20 min late, I thought it was better than never. I did not want to go back there though , would you? So I reached the Lifebooker to get a refund for the deal I bought, but Lifebooker would not give me a refund, because Gigi lied to them and said I was late for the app. and she was trying to honor the deal. I don't think I would recommend this esthetician. While she is a very sweet and polite human being - the quality of work and environment was not what I am used to. The facial was conducted in what may have been her apartment - though, I didn't mind that if the environment was peaceful and private. I noticed the couch had cat hair on it, and there was no waiting room. Secondly, I was not asked about any kinds of allergies, or sensitivities my skin had until she already started putting creams on me. The products used were very tingly, one of which included a very spicy cinnamon concoction I would not recommend if you have sensitive skin. Additionally, the extractions done on me seemed very "unsure" - and no metal tools were used to remove blemishes or on my nose - I felt like she was may have only been using her fingernail. It just felt very amateur. My skin did not look or feel hydrated after wards, and I was not glowing. She was kind enough to give me a free sponge though, and some cream to put on a blemish I had, which was thoughtful. Though she wrapped it in foil which seemed a bit unsanitary. When I got home, I still had bits of the facial mask on my chin, and around my hairline, which was embarrassing since I was walking around in public afterwards. FYI, she does not accept credit cards, only cash. All in all, it wasn't a horrible experience, just was not the quality I was looking for. It was a bit pricey for the quality performed ($85) - I would much rather spend an extra $10 and go to a professional day spa with name brand products. I returned for a second facial a couple weeks ago after having a wonderful first time experience with Gigi. Unfortunately I wasn't as impressed with my second facial as I developed a RINGWORM fungal infection on my left cheek below my eye. Immediately after leaving my appointment I noticed a small red dot which I assumed was irritation from extractions. A week later the dot had become the size of a quarter and was slightly raised and bumpy. At this point i made an appointment to see my doctor where she confirmed that it is fact fungal. I was prescribed cream which has seemed to work a bit but I still have a huge red mark on my face. Disgusting and ultimately more embarrassing than any blemish i could have paid to have extracted. I got a facial from Gigi today and I have to say it was hands down the best facial I've ever had. Being cursed with acne since the age of 14, I've had a looot of facials over the past 10 years and I can easily say that my experience with Gigi was the best. First off, it was super easy to book an appointment. Second, even though I arrived 10 minutes late, she really took her time with my face and she made sure that it looked good before letting me leave instead of rushing me out the door as soon as my time was up. Gigi is awesome! I've never seen my skin looking so healthy and I've been to many estheticians. She is extremely nice, and informed me of every product she used. She really gets to know her client's skin type in order to produce the best results. After the session she let me know how to keep up a good skin routine. She really is one of the bests!
