Normally I like this spa. I come every other month. I normally see a woman (I never remember her name but we remember each others faces) or I'll see V. These two have been my techs since mid last year. I always get classic white gel pedicures. Nothing crazy. However, today's visit. Was awful since V was not there and my regular lady tech was assisting someone already. I've had nothing but good techs since being here so I was cool with trying the other male tech. Lord I should have waited for my girl. Just look at the photo. The male tech didn't even want to clip my toenails and again I come every OTHER month. I had such a pleasant experience at Noire The Nail Bar. I was welcomed right away and asked how I could be helped. I was immediately directed to a nail technician and my manicure began right away. I was asked about color selection and if I wanted a beverage. The nail technician was excellent, I had a gel manicure and it's lovely. The polish is even and shiny. I'm extremely disappointed in the 3 services over the past month at this salon. I asked for tips with dip powder, and they have come out uneven and lumpy every time with nails varying in length. I've never been disappointed enough in a service to call back and request to get something redone or refunded, but did after my experience yesterday. I went in initially ~3 weeks ago to get tips with dip powder, wasn't entirely happy, but happy enough to come back in yesterday to get another set of tips with dip powder. I asked for a glitter French tip, and not a single nail looked the same between color, shape, thickness, etc. There was product that settled into my cuticles/nail-bed that caused pain and pressure, and I was unhappy with the entire set so called to come in today to get them redone, as the cashier yesterday even looked at my nails and said if I'm unhappy I can come in within the next week to get them redone. I come in to get a new set today and was told "we don't use dip powder for French tips, we use gel" which is fine, but if that is the case why wasn't that communicated to me when I went to get them done in the first place and why did my nail technician continue with the process? Regardless, opted for a solid glitter pink color today and in the process of removing the set from yesterday, my natural nails were unevenly cut down below my fingertips and drilled/filed down to the point that they were burning and currently still hurt underneath - I am very upset my natural nails were cut without even asking before. I'm also not satisfied with the new set; the tips were not measured to my nails prior to applying glue, so the sides of my nails are bare/not manicured, the tips were glued on crooked and pointing upwards, and there are lumps and dips in the nails, they look really off especially in person. I appreciate them not charging to fix yesterday's set, however I felt uncomfortable having the nail technician from yesterday hover over today's technician as they were discussing what was wrong with each nail. I cannot emphasize enough how upset I am about my natural nails being jaggedly cut down without even asking. I honestly regret going in - I've been in a rut and wanted to do something nice for myself. Instead I've been upset over wasting my time 2 days in a row at the salon, the fact that the state of my natural nails are comprised, and I'm dissatisfied with nails that I'm now stuck with for 2-3 weeks unless I want to further compromise my nails. read more

Please go somewhere else...I took me and my mother here, Tuesday so yesterday and my mom swears she loves her nails but i know what a good set of nails looks like when it's not rushed. They had an entire hour left till close so i'm not sure why the lady doing my nails rushed the job. I ended up paying over $140 for both of our REALLY SHORT, PISS POOR, HALF-DONE job of nails. I didn't get what i asked because she "didn't have time" knowing she had nothing else to do...Right. The nail technician was nice. I got dipping powder manicure ($40) for the first time here. However, my nails did not even last 1 week, it is starting to lift off the base and it is breaking my natural nail. Dipping powder is supposed to last longer than gel, average 3 weeks.... Also, they dip your nails directly into the the dipping jar, which is not very sanitary. Love this place! They have very friendly staff and a wide variety of colors and service options.

I've been here twice since they opened--once for a manicure and once for a pedicure. Both experiences have been wonderful! Everyone is so nice and welcoming, plus the space is beautiful. I am queen of indecisiveness when it comes to picking a color, but each time I've gotten recommendations that I LOVE! This is a great place to come by yourself or with friends, heck, you might even meet some new ones! Noire offers complimentary soda, water, and wine, which really makes for a relaxing time :). I really enjoyed my manicure with Jennifer--I came in thinking I wanted gel, but as we talked and she realized that I work at a bar, she recommended the dip powder to strengthen my nails and last longer. I appreciated her looking out for me, not simply trying to up-sell services. Two weeks later, my nails still look great and don't have a single chip! Long story short: this is the best nail salon in Chapel Hill! Prices are extremely reasonable for the experience and each time I leave feeling pampered and refreshed. I had a great experience here. I got a mani/pedi and a half leg wax. The staff was great, my nails look good, and the waxing was done well. I didn't originally plan on getting the leg wax because I have a regular person I normally see for that, but she was out of town so I decided to give it a try at Noire. Katie did the waxing and she was very mindful of making sure the wax wasn't too hot and checking for stray hairs that might have been missed.Milan (sp?) did my mani/pedi. For some ungodly reason the MANAGER thought it was a good idea to give me a tech that had NO idea what he was doing!! Ok last update! They did fix my nails. They had Ryan do them and they turned out very well. I did pay more to have the other ones done but I'll take it as a lost cause because this time I told them to just do regular acrylic with gel paint. I will add photo so you can see what Ryan did. He was a lot more gentle than Steven and did such a good job. They apologized and told me Steven was new and I let them know he shouldn't be trying to talk people into stuff he can not do. read more

Waited 30 mins even tho I had an appointment in the middle of the weekday. Nails came out decent quality and the full set with gel only took about 40 mins but he used the Dremel tool on my cuticles which cut me quite a bit. I am NEVER going back to Noire Nail bar. I have been there countless times and there were only 2 nail techs I would go to which were great but now they're both gone and I will not be going back. The service now is horrendous. I came in with a picture that they confirmed they could do. I sat down (at a dirty seat) and I got my nails done. WHILE getting them done I asked for a few things differently and the nail tech told me it 'wasn't possible to do with gel polish' which was a bold faced LIE. I asked for the tips of my nails to be thinner and he only redid two of them.... the same way. When expressing my concerns at the front desk while paying for something I DID NOT WANT- I was told they could repair them the next day. I wasn't willing to come back so I called them back and explained I would get them fixed elsewhere and that I wanted a refund. I contacted them a second time an hour later and the manager still NEVER called me back. I went and got them fixed at a different salon immediately after leaving and called them back the next day since I never got a call back and I was told that they have a no refund policy and would be willing to repair them but since I got them redone somewhere else that that was my loss because they could only repair the set that they did. The manner in which Noire the Nail Bar took off my acrylic nails should genuinely be considered a war crime. Instead of soaking them in acetone and waiting for them to scrub off they literally try and RIP the acrylic nail off of your base nail. I could feel my poor little nails screaming for mercy as they begged to be soaked in an acetone and paper towel bath but oh were they in for a painful ride. On a scale of stubbing my toe in the dark and being burned at the stake I would rate my pain a 9. Not sure why the guy doing my nails was surprised when he ripped a huge chunk of my natural nail off because I've never been anyplace else who has done that. And then he had the audacity to say my nails were "weak" like yeah maybe because you tried to tear off acrylics that were quite literally fused to my nails. I digress. RIP to my right pinky nail. I had the most disappointing experience at this nail salon, receiving the worst set of nails in my entire life. The nail technician blatantly disregarded my instructions, choosing to do whatever he pleased with my nails. Despite explicitly asking the technician, whose name I was never given, to design my nails following an inspiration picture, so he could get a sense of how long I wanted my nails, my request was completely ignored. My nail technician asked me after putting the tips on where I would like for it to get cut but he already had the scissors at less than half the length of the full tip. I told him to go up a little bit and he just snipped the tip off where he originally had his scissors. When questioned about the result, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the excessive shortness, suggesting a proper length for the remaining nails. Unfortunately, the technician failed to understand or chose to disregard my input, cutting all my nails extremely short without seeking my approval. Moreover, the chosen nail color bore no resemblance to what I had originally selected, and my nails ended up looking overly bulky. Towards the end, noticing my obvious displeasure and attempting to hold back tears, the technician casually inquired if I "liked" my nails. The combination of irritation, anger, sadness, and frustration overwhelmed me like never before. I have no intention of returning to this nail salon, and I strongly discourage others from doing so as well. read more

I called ahead of time and asked if they would be free to do a set of acrylics for me in 45 mins or so. The receptionist said yes, and told me it was fine to come in. I told them I would be in in about 45 mins to an hour and she responded, "That would actually be PERFECT, see you soon!" I get there 45 mins after I made that call, and once I walked in I was told the wait would be 10-15 mins. Okay, no problem. After I was waiting there for OVER *25* minutes, they come up to me and say, "The wait is actually going to be ANOTHER 30 minutes. We have 3 more people in front of you who want acrylics." So basically: 1) They quoted me a 10-15 minute wait after I walked in, 2) I actually waited for over 25, and 3) after waiting that long, they told me I would have to wait an additional 30 minutes. I would MAYBE be more understanding if I was just a walk-in (even though what they did was still totally unprofessional), but the fact that I CALLED AHEAD and they TOLD ME TO COME IN and this STILL happened?! Honestly I would not recommend this place. Even calling ahead to confirm an appointment won't get you seen in a timely manner. Terrible customer service. They need to learn how to properly book clients. Take your business (and your time) elsewhere. I wasted 25 minutes, plus the 10 minute drive there AND the 10 minute drive back home for NOTHING. read more

HOWEVER... the polish they use is VERY VERY low quality! I always get acrylic extensions with gel polish- for the price i payed this was terrible quality, polish started peeling after 1-2 weeks. This was one of the worst nail experiences I've ever had. My friend and I went for mani pedis. Not only did we have to wait a while for someone to start our pedicure but my friend was unhappy with her color so she asked for a different one and they started laughing her! After our pedicures the nail tech working on my manicure nicked my cuticles and caused qt least three of them to bleed. He then doused my fingers in alcohol which was very painful. Then he couldn't get the color I picked to work. Ok. But then they didn't even have my second choice! I basically just picked whatever color came up next because I wanted out of there. I had also requested an accent nail but her totally forgot and I didn't remind him because I wanted to leave. And they still charged me full price despite the numerous mistakes. Negative stars if I could give them. My friend and I went for two pedicures and two dip manicures with designs. The pedicures lasted maybe 15 minutes and felt so rushed. My friend had dip powder from her last manicure, so she asked if she should wrap them with tin foil while she was getting her pedicure and they said no. When it came to her manicure, they wanted her to dip her fingers in 100% acetone. She asked nicely if she could get them wrapped because her skin is sensitive and 100% acetone isn't good for anyone. He said no. Then he started drilling the dip off her REAL nails for 45 minutes. She told him it was hurting because he was thinning her nail and he didn't stop. I nicely said "you're hurting her" and he goes "I know!" And proceeds to continue drilling to the point where she had to refuse to keep going because it hurt so bad. Finally, someone else came in and convinced him to continue by wrapping her nails (like she initially requested. My manicure was a 3/10. They kept saying they couldn't do the design because my nails were short but I was nicely reminding them it was an inspiration picture and didn't need exact what was there. My nails look like they were done by a 3 year old and I had nail polish all under my nails. Terrible place - we genuinely tried to be nice and didn't want to be Karen's but their disrespect made me really anxious and upset. There's many other nail places in Chapel Hill. Just moved to the area and was in serious need of a pedi. I found this place via yelp and very happy I did! Loved every minute of my experience. My nail tech did not attempt small talk/chatter which I appreciated! I came in about 45 minutes before they closed by selected a pedi option that was about 55 minutes. They didn't skip or cut any corners. Provided me with my full service and did a good job at it. As soon as I sat down I asked for the water to be hotter and she complied. She asked me if I wanted a beverage and retrieved it right away. I can't wait to go back again for a mani and pedi. Really loved getting pampered here read more

Chapel hill has a bunch of salons but none on this level the place is gorgeous the staff are all very pleasant and helpful. I wish I'd looked at the reviews of this place before going and wasting my money. there were so many issues here I don't even know where to start. the customer service was mediocre to say the least. the guy who was working on my nails was quiet and when he did speak I felt he was being very rude and wasn't listening to what I wanted. then he asked if I wanted my nails long or short and I said short and next thing I knows he's cutting as he asks if that was a good length. well I guess it has to be now right!!! you've already cut. i remained hopeful and optimistic at this point but that soon changed when I saw how fat and short and stubby my nails now looked!!! I hated them! he managed to shave them down enough so it didn't look like there was acrylic just caked onto my fingers. the edges of the nails were so sharp around the edges because apparently that's what you get when you ask for square shaped nails then when I asked how we could fix this because I really didn't like the nails so far, I was told I'd have to pay double to have them removed and fixed to be done how to they should have in the first place! then to top it all off my daughter was with me and was supposed to get her nails done but I was not about to spend even one more cent in this place so now we are sitting at another salon getting her taken care of.
