(RL 2/4/26 @9:00am) After making an appointment 6 months ago and confirming this appointment by phone over a week ago, I arrived to be told that my appointment was cancelled because I didn't continue to "reconfirm". In addition to the phone calls, I tapped a button on an email to confirm but apparently that was also not good enough. Phone calls come in from Nokomis Dental without caller ID and go to spam. My wife and I have been patients here for years, never missing or arriving late for any appointments. When I spoke with office staff the response I received was that the hygienist never calls for confirmation, to well, she did as an initial confirmation but things can happen and their policy requires additional confirmations. What a waste of time driving 25 minutes each way to bee treated this way! read more

Unfriendly staff. Unprofessional conduct. Empty lobby. Upselling. This is my second time coming to Nokomis Dental Care. During my first appointment, they tried to upsell me on cosmetic dentistry and an Invisalign. My teeth are straight. I just scheduled an appointment and after checking in and waiting, I received a very important call regarding a legal matter I was waiting for. I and asked if I could step outside for just a few minutes to answer questions and was given the okay. Once, I was outside multiple people came looking for me interrupting my call and delaying my return. When I came back in and asked where I should go, I was told that I wasn't able to be seen today. Of course, I left immediately. This all occurred with 11 minutes from the start of my appointment. I can tell by the reviews and the empty lobby, they aren't going to last long in our wonderful community. Hope it gets turned into a medspa. Went to this office for my first appointment and a cleaning. First thing they did was to try to upsell me on a treatment program before even looking at my teeth. Then took a panaramic picture of my teeth and told me I needed x-rays too. I told the Latino "hygienist" from Venezuela that I was a heavy gagger. She took about 12-14 pictures and I was getting upset (I have high blood pressure on meds). I told her I had never had so many pictures taken in any dental office for x-rays .I questioned whether this was the right dental practice for me and the hygienist abruptly called in the Business Manager who was not sympathetic at all and told me it was better that I just left. No consoling, no offer to just rest a few moments, no sympathetic concern.............just "you need to leave"! Where was Dr. Griffin to try to console a prospective patient? STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND. I am a working professional. Time away from work isn't easy. I scheduled my dentist appointment over 8 months ago for a basic cleaning. When I arrived, they told me that my appointment was cancelled because I didn't 'confirm' the appointment from a recent voice mail. This was absolutely unacceptable. My appointment was 'confirmed' when I made it, there shouldn't have to be a 2nd or 3rd confirmation to maintain the appointment. So, after taking off work and driving an hour to the appointment, I was told it was cancelled and made to feel as though it was my fault for not following their policy. I went today for a cleaning and also had work that needed to be done. Started with the hygienist Allena, I will give her 100 stars. The best I ever had. Very professional and answered all of my questions and did a great job of cleaning my teeth. After Dr. Dunlap came in and consulted on work that needed to be done. Beware of the Bait & Switch! I went in with a cracked tooth and they said that they would work with me because recently retired with no insurance and they price gouged me. They initially offered 20 percent and then changed it to 10 percent cash discount then push their unethical business model blaming the state of Florida. If I could leave a negative star review I would. Avoid this dental office at all costs. The issues started from day one. They lost my new patient paperwork that is several pages long. Then when you have an appointment they start emailing and texting reminders 1 week out. I mean several emails and texts. Not just 1 or 2. I asked the office manager to remove me from the "reminder" list. She decided to school me in front of the office staff that if I dont call to reconfirm an appointment they will cancel it. I should have left then and there. They since then have changed front office staff. Good move. The hygentists that I have had are good. No complaints. However, Dr Griffith is another story. If you have any issues other than needing fillings or a root canal she cannot do anything for you. She is efficient on having referrals written for you though. Unfortunately her knowledge of dentistry is very limited. I made an appointment on Jan 19th @1p because I have a lump on the roof of my mouth and I was in pain. Dr Griffith finally saw me at 1:50p. She checked the lump, pushed on it and verified that I have an infection. She said because the 2 upper teeth near the infection have root canals, she cannot help me. She did what she does best, she printed out a referral to an endodontist. She wouldn't even give me a prescription for an antibiotic for the infection. She sent me home in pain with a known infection in the soft tissue of my mouth. What happened to the hypocritic oath? Waiting for 50mins to be seen while in pain was just too much. She didn't even apologize for keeping me waiting. All I heard were lame excuses. She is truly the worst "dentist " I've ever had! She has so little knowledge in dentistry it's shocking. Oh, did I mention that all the referrals are to places that don't take my insurance. This is another issue with Nokomis dental. You have to do all the calling to optional places and ask if they take your insurance. Needless to say, I canceled all my future hygentist appointments and will never go back there. Beware of this place and advise your friends and family. Remember you have choices. Don't settle for a dentist that doesn't care about you. $$$$ read more

Great new patient experience! The ladies at the front desk were delightful and that set the tone for the rest of my visit! I had the pleasure of having Allena as my hygienist and Dr. Dunlap as my dentist. They were both lovely. Very knowledgeable, thorough, informative and personable. It is a very smooth operation that they have established that makes being a patient very seamless. Prior to treatment, I was advised of what treatments were being performed as well as what my insurance covered versus what would be an out of pocket expense. I very much appreciated this and was given the opportunity to make decisions having all the details. read more

went for an infected tooth doc prescribed 2 antibiotics after the procedure but neither were ever called in... went to the office the following day after still no antibiotics called in. Had a friend pick up the prescriptions for me because i had to work finally told the girl on the phone never mind ill have my pcp call it in. Well my friend went to the dental office to get the prescriptions girl behind the desk was really snotty. more interested in texting on her cell phone than helping me didn't know which end is up. The first time I came to this office I had a hygienist That was not satisfactory. I am a hygienist myself And she did not do a through job only using the water machine known as a cavitron. When questioning her about fine scaling after the machine she said no I don't. So I decided to try Another hygienist who did both methods and I was satisfied and continued. Now I just went in for my 5 mos recall and the hygienist I was scheduled with was at the desk and said I don't Do cleanings anymore. Now I had to premedicate because of a certain medical condition so I had antibiotics in me and I didn't want to have Taken them for nothing. I was so mad. This hygienist comes out says she will do both methods. I didn't realize until I was in the chair and she started it was the hygienist I didn't like. I had a horrible cleaning she did not go sub even though they made me pay for a periodontal cleaning. She did not clean below the gum line. I was very upset, but at the time in the office I paid and left afterwards I called to complain to the receptionist and so far I have not even heard from a manager to address the situation. how unprofessional this office is to give me an appointment with one hygienist, not called me to tell me that they're switching me, and yet they switched me to the one that I said that I never want cleaning my teeth ever again. I have 20 years of experience myself as a hygienist, I am retired, but in all my years, I have never worked in an office, and I worked in a couple of offices, never worked in an office that did such practices where they don't tell you if the hygienist isn't in for the day that they're switching the hygienist on you. Here we go again...DEEP CLEANING SCAM. They pull you in for 129.00 if you don't have insurance and than blast it. DEEP CLEANING fro 3000.00 to get back their money they were not collecting from insurance. I am so disappointed in the FARCE and unethical professionalism. A deep cleaning means it just takes LONGER to do the cleaning due to more plaque but it isn't worth thousands more. They will NOT allow you to come in say for a regular cleaning price 3 times in 4 month spans because they need to make up the money insurance would have paid it you had it. SHAME SHAME SHAME. I can honestly say it is the worst dental experience I have ever had. I came to this office needing a crown over a new front tooth implant. I had recently moved to Nokomis and wanted a nearby dentist. The people in front were curious, professional and caring. I was not at all happy with the rest of my experience. They x-rayed my front teeth and sent out for a crown. I waited 3 weeks for it to come back only to find out it did not fit properly. They x-rayed again and sent out for another crown. I waited 3 weeks again and when it came back it too did not fit. This time they took the old fashioned mold of my front teeth and sent out for a third crown. I again waited 3 weeks for it to come back. This time the fit was CLOSE. Not perfect by any stretch. They force fit it and glued it in place. The result is that the front tooth crown they put in is shorter than the other front teeth. It was pushed very hard to my other front tooth leaving a gap on the opposite side side of the tooth, and pushed forward in my mouth leaving a slight but annoying "buck tooth" effect. Twice during this whole experience the dentist asked the assistant for her advice on matters he was not sure about. Asking her what type of glue to use really bothered me as one would think he should know the answer to this. The last visit was followed immediately with a cleaning appointment. The hygienist seem to take on the role of a dentist finding all sorts of things wrong with my teeth. When the dentist came in to check things she told him of her findings and he concurred without even looking into my mouth. The dentist called the font desk and within minutes they had a plan to fix my teeth for the nominal sum of $3,600. I have since made an appointment with another local dentist and will never go back or recommend Nokomis Dental to anyone. read more

These two girls ONLY care about money. If they screw up - well, too bad for you. I spent $3,500 on a bridge and the color of the bridge is different from the color of the surrounding teeth. That egoist Nicole Griffith is about as smart as a box of rocks. Except when it comes to money, she won't fix anything. My bridge is so off color I am afraid to open my mouth to smile. When I went to the office to place the crown I wasn't given a chance to actually stand up and compare the color of the crown to the color of my own teeth. As soon as I sat in the chair the assistant produced a paper for me to sign. This is where I really screwed up - by signing it without looking at my teeth and the bridge in the light. She made it sound like I was just agreeing to the fact that the bridge was made. A few days later I went back to the office and that thief Nicole said if I wanted anything changed I would have to pay all over again. I would stay away from these two wolves in sheep's clothing! This happened 6 mos ago. I have been trying to hold off to let God handle it but every day when I look at my teeth I just get more upset especially since my time to sue this evil woman has expired. I really cannot for the life of me understand some of the reviews I've seen. I am a retired NYPD Lieutenant. I absolutely hate going to the dentist. Been like this my entire life. I'm the type that only goes to the dentist when something hurts!‍. When I found Nokomis Dental I felt like I found heaven in earth. Ok so that may have been way over the top but I definitely found a clean, professional, and caring environment. I had my teeth cleaned and it certainly didn't take 2 minutes as another posted. Dr Griffin is excellent at what she does. The ladies in the front actually give a crap about you and are friendly and funny. I call this office the Wonder Woman Dentist. So several issues with this place: First, they must be short handed or have only one hygienist because every time I make an appointment with them they call to reschedule. This time they called twice to reschedule the same appointment for a checkup. Now, I understand that stuff happens but when your having to reschedule your clients appointments over and over again, like with me on different occasions, it's a major issue. Second, at my last appointment, I felt as though the office was unorganized or the dental assistant was new or she didn't know what she was doing. During that appointment, I was made to wait a couple periods in between the procedure with no explanation then suddenly another assistant came in to finish the job. I felt it was odd but again no explanation was given. Third, during the week your lucky if someone answers your call. Now I'm not calling on a weekend or early or late in the day. I'm calling during their business hours. A busy place like that should always have a receptionist or two to answer calls. Fourth, by this time I have had enough and I want to transfer to another dental office. I call and finally reach someone to ask how I go about getting my records transferred. I'm told I have to come in to fill out the form that will allow them transfer my records to another office. So, even though I was working, I go out of my way to go to their office to fill out the form. I hand it to the lady at the front desk, who was obviously on a personal call and ask if anything else was needed. She says no everything is in order and I leave. A few weeks later I call, just to check, and my records were never sent to the new dental office. Just unacceptable. I do have to say that the dental assistants were nice enough and that's why I gave them two stars but honestly, it's just not how you run a business let alone a medical-dental office. People don't come to a dentist for fun, they go out of necessity not to mention that it can be uncomfortable and expensive, so you want to make sure your clients are treated well. I was in the medical field for over 30 years and half of that was spent in management, so some advice, their needs to be some serious office management there as well as some "cleaning house". read more

My new dentist visit was ok except at the end when I was told I needed 2 new crowns and caps removed and redone. ( some within a couple of years). The worst problem was sensitivity noted in an upper tooth. Hygienist said. "Use some sensitive toothpaste". I did not take the bait to schedule removing previous work and redo. But following week had a terrible tooth ache in sensitive area and upon exam by another dentist found an abcess and needed root canal. Not a good experience here read more

DO NOT USE NOKOMIS DENTAL CARE - BAIT AND SWITCH! I called a few weeks to schedule my 6 month cleaning (I am in FL from NYC for 3 months) and my insurance company told me I was covered in FL. I am fully covered for an exam, xrays and a cleaning. I called to schedule a CLEANING and spoke with Alyssa who scheduled the cleaning with Maria - I asked if the hygenist Maria uses the old school method of scraping/scaling or the new method. I received a call back from a hygienist who assured me that the hygenists use both methods. On the day before the appointment I called to get directions and the woman who answered the phone did not even know the name of the street that I would turn to get to Nokomis Dental Care. When I arrived at the office I was asked if I brought the paperwork - I informed them that no one sent me paperwork - after filling out the paperwork she insisted I provide my social security #. When I asked if Maria was running on time - I was informed that another person would be taking care of me. I immediately asked if he used the scaling method and was told yes. I sat in the chair and Wilmer, in broken English said "I can tell you get nervous in a dental chair" - which I was absolutely not. He then stated that I would need an xray and an exam and there would not be enough time to do a cleaning. This is the bait and switch - Nokomis Dental Care gets you ion the chair and then tells you about their process. There is so much research about the correlation between dental Xrays and Dementia that I am vehemently opposed to xrays. I immediately got off the chair and spoke to Paula and told her I was NOT informed on the 3 times that I called about the xrays... she said "they inform everyone that xrays are required"... She then very offensively asked if it was the "cost of the xray or the xray itself" - I was incensed. I calmly explained I do not want the xrays due to the possible dementia connection. I then gave her my dentist phone # in NYC and informed her that I had xrays done in the past. My dentist confirmed that xrays were performed in 2018 - Paula then told me she couldn't use "those xrays" and needed another set. It is NOT the law to require xrays - I would have signed a waiver to release them from any liability. I called today to discuss the unpleasant experience I had from start to finish and I wanted to speak to the owner/doctors but the call was intercepted by Paula. She said she would have done the "xrays for free" once again completely missing the point! I asked her to pass along this information to the doctors she implied that she would not... I mentioned Yelp - she then accused me of threatening her and hung up the phone. SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND ENERGY AND SHEER FRUSTRATION AND FIND ANOTHER DENTIST!! read more
