I'm chemically sensitive and most rugs off gas from the chemicals used either in the fiber or in the glue or in the backing. So I need all natural rugs. That can get very expensive very fast. Love my rug from this store. The shop owner and his employees were very helpful. We went through almost all the rugs they had in the store one by one. His two employees carried three rugs that I considered from front room to back room for better natural light and then move them back to front room so they could lay them side by side for me to compare the color. They were very accommodating for my preference of color, thickness and price range, and gave me many good advices. His online store is well organized, easy to search, and photographed beautifully. If you have questions regarding inventory, Chris is responsive, personable, and easy to work with. He also knows his product -both existing and incoming- so well that if you don't see what you want, he can tell you what he expects in-store soon. I unfortunately had a very different experience here. On the first day, Chris was friendly and professional and he let me borrow 2 rugs to try out, as any reputable rug seller would. But the next day when I returned the rugs, he was like a different person. I really liked a Sultanabad but had questions regarding something embedded into the knots. This is a direct quote from Chris' website on his Rugs 101 page: "Ask lots of questions. We encourage looking and touching and learning how our rugs are made." So I respectfully asked him questions to learn more about the rug before potentially spending thousands of dollars on it. To my disappointment, he became dismissive. Maybe he assumed that I wasn't buying anything since I am a first time and younger buyer because he proceeded to wave his hands in the air and derisively shooed me away while mockingly singing, "Bye bye." I was shocked at his petulant behavior and all the respect I had for him disappeared in an instant. Everyone has bad days so maybe I got him on one. It's been a rough couple of years due to COVID-19 so I always try to do my part to remain positive and kind to people, as it takes much more discipline to do this than resort to impertinence. I remained calm and courteous as I thanked Chris for his time, as well as the friendly gentleman who helped me carry the rugs I returned and left. I just bought 2 hand knotted rugs from another business. The rug hunt continues as I have the rest of the house to furnish. Their beauty is an integral part of my life and I can't picture my home without them. The reasons I am still happy with all of them are that a) Chris has an amazing and well-curated selection of rugs to choose from and b) he and Tora patiently help you figure out exactly the rug for you and then encourage you to take a few of them home for several days to try them all out -- even if you don't live in SF and he has to ship them. Speaking of which, if you get a chance, you really have to check out the store in San Francisco, which is like a museum in and of itself. Its multi-leveled back section is a great place to let kids explore. It's truly an amazing place. I had spotted a rug on their website and wanted to make sure the colors matched the picture in person and I am happy to confirm the pictures do a great job representing the color! The staff there will happily turn over rug after rug to make sure you feel happy with your choice. There was no pressure to buy which made everything feel very comfortable. What a beautiful and fantastic selection of rugs! Christopher is clearly very knowledgable. My husband and I went in to 1) purchase a new rug and 2) ask about repairing a rug that was brought back from Afghanistan by my mother-in-law. Christopher was able to identify the style and period of the rug we brought in- he offered us an honest assessment of it's value and didn't pressure us at all to have it repaired or worked on. He was very low-key, very upfront and there was zero pressure. We ended up not having work done on the rug as he let us know that it would be purely aesthetic and not add significant value. We then looked at the rug that we wanted to purchase. Christopher offered to let us take it home as a trial to see how it looked in our home. He held our credit card number and didn't charge us until we called to say we wanted to keep it. FANTASTIC customer service. We absolutely adore the rug.
