Haven't been back for a while, but has to stop in for a Santa's Reinbeer while it's available on draft. Went to my go to which is a caprese sandwich with salt and vinegar fries. I have to say, was bummed with the sandwich. It has always been fresh tasting and refreshing but my bun was burnt and that flavor kind had ruined my favorite. On a warm day in June, our family enjoyed a lovely lunch here on the breezy deck. The hamburgers, burrata, and Cubano were very good. The fried fish sandwich was excellent. The space itself is pretty cool - it here's a good amount of seats but the tables are not on top of one another. You can see into the brewery portion where they make the beer too. We walked in without a reservation and got sat within 5 minutes. The service overall was great. For beer I had a pint of the Pale Ale. Found this place with yelps help. Big open farm house kind of feel brewery. Had a bright and clean feel and I was expecting typical brew pub food but it was totally unexpected how good the food was. A lot of locally sourced ingredients and even the gin I ordered was local. Started with calamari and that was amazing! Highly recommend it! Had the fired chicken sandwich which came out moist and crispy, The mushroom pasta that had local mushrooms that was equally as delicious. The pasta was made with some sciracha infusion and it was cooked perfectly. Ended with a tiramisu that was as good as any italian restaurant. Servers were awesome and gave good suggestions! Stopped here after a long afternoon at the UNH graduation. Found through Yelp! This is definitely worth the visit even if it seems a little out of the way. It's actually only minutes from the Maine Mall. We stopped in at 7:30 on a Saturday night and were seated right away. Our server was Erik and he was attentive without being annoying and helpful when we said that we were first time visitors. We had the salt & vinegar French fries to start. I had the smokehouse burger with a salad for the side and my husband had the pulled pork bowl. Both were very good. The drinks were great as well. Went to NB 12/9. Rachelle was a great server. My date ordered sliders and fries- both great! I asked if they offered side salads, Rachelle said yes! Not offered On the menu tho. I also ordered Wienerschnitzel as a "small plate". It came with a small sprinkling of sliced cabbage (why not more?). It was no more than 1/8 thick, 2 pcs, I'm my opinion deep fried to dark brown. Came up on a trip to Portland and this is a must stop for drinks and food. We tried the fish soup that was made with haddock to start. All I can say is ...wow! I'm not a chowdah person but my husband is. This was hearty, thick soup offering large chunks of fish with potatoes. Rightfully seasoned! The food all looked amazing that was being served around is. We decided to try the burgers and they did not disappoint. Very flavorful and the ingredients were definitely farm fresh. I was very impressed with it all even the look inside of the brewery. This was my second time at Nonesuch. First time, I was at an event, and the food and drinks were excellent! This time, I went with my husband and a couple of friends for dinner and drinks. First off, the space is fantastic. Plenty of parking both in the front parking lot and across the street. Lots of room inside both upstairs and downstairs. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. For a drink, I had the winter sangria, which was delicious. Red wine and a cinnamon simple syrup made it taste very seasonal without being too sweet. I have to say I was a disappointed in the food this time. I had a bowl of the fish chowder and the Caprese appetizer. The chowder may have been the end of the pot, but it was extremely thick- and not in a good way. Think, a bowl of mashed potato texture. There was no soup to it and each spoonful left an empty spot in the bowl. Flavor was good, but texture was off quite a bit. The caprese was thinly sliced tomatoes, layered with a thinly sliced mozzarella cheese, crostinis, and a slight drizzle of balsamic glaze and basil. This would have been great, but the tomatoes were not ripe at all and had zero flavor. If you can't source quality, ripe produce in the winter, then please take an appetizer that depends on it off the menu until you can. I think I ate half of my meal and my husband picked at the rest of it. Very disappointed. In saying this, I have had the wings the last time I ate there and they were fantastic! My friends all had different salads and they looked really tasty. I regretted my decision not to try one. Nonesuch has a great selection of both beer and creative cocktails. Their food is hit or miss, but I will definitely be back to try it again. read more

Love this place, been visiting since they first opened. My only critique that I'd pass on is their chicken salad sandwich. It was vert tasty with a slight amount of heat. The issues were, it was a bit on the dry side, and they served it in a Ciabatta bread. The salad would keep falling out of the sandwich with every bite. I prob lost half of it, TG for forks! It should have been served in a torpedo roll, split on the top. This would have made it easier to eat. Great food overall, super nice people, and a fun place to sit and enjoy good beer. I have to start off saying we never complain when dining out but had to let the waitress know how awful we felt the food was. We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer and waited a long time, when they arrived they were undercooked, we tried to eat around the pink meat as much as we could. Next we ordered the fish and chip dinner and the fries were the highlight of the meal, nice and hot. The fish was crispy which was okay and the Cole slaw was terrible, old and extremely salty, I love Cole slaw but couldn't eat it. We told the waitress about the meal and was offered a dessert to take home. We have been here many times and had never had a bad experience but will unlikely return. I wanted to imitate some for a Thanksgiving dinner. I ordered a fish and chips which were lightly seasoned (the way I like it) and cooked perfectly. For those that want additional seasoning, you're more than welcome to request it to the server when making the order or you can add extra salt and pepper provided on the table. I didn't expect a brewery meal to be my favorite dining experience in Maine, but Nonesuch River Brewing surprised me with the Almond Crusted Haddock "large plate". The fish came with mashed sweet potatoes, mushroom risotto, and was topped with a crunchy almond topping and arugula. I combined small bites of the fish, potatoes, and risotto into each bite, and all of the ingredients meshed well together. I also appreciated that the fish was not deep fried, greasy, or over cooked- it was perfect! My husband had the pappardelle pork sugo, which the server said has been on the menu since the beginning and is a family recipe from one of the owners. He was also quiet satisfied with it, and we shared a bowl of delicious chowder as an appetizer. The chowder was hot and comforting after a chilly day, and we're glad we got it early in our trip before the weather got too warm. The brewery's design is open and clean, and the menu has everything from wings and sandwiches to upscale dishes like what we ordered. Of course, Nonesuch has a large selection of beers, and you can get flights. Sour beers are my favorite, and they don't have many of those, but you can get cocktails and wine, or choose one of the zero proof mocktails. We felt the prices were fair for the quality of food we got. The large plates reminded me of a dish I'd pay a lot more for at a fancier restaurant with over-the-top service. I appreciated that I could have a nice, quality meal in a casual environment here. Nonesuch River Brewing likely wouldn't be on your radar for sophisticated dining, especially looking at the outside, but you might be surprised like we were. Plus, you can have a flight of beer with it, and anyone else who's with you that wants bar food is covered too. read more
