Such a cute little deli! It was my first time there, I ordered ravioli and meatballs. I am super picky with meatballs, but these were tender, just right, and totally worth the price. I ordered ahead for pick up. Ordered a turkey cheese and bacon on a roll with their works. It was a small place, clean, and quiet. I was greeted by an employee or rang me out at their register. The sandwich came with a thick layer of turkey on it and honestly, i paid extra to add bacon and they literally only gave me a slice or two... they clearly shouldn't have skimped on it ...esp since this sandwich was a roll and it was 13 dollars. It was a delicious sandwich, but 13 dollars for a roll? I don't think I'd ever do that again. read more

Top notch fresh ingredients (they pile those sandwiches high) - I had an amazing specialty grinders drizzled it olive oil....fresh mozz, roasted peppers, broccoli rabe and prosciutto omg - I wish it was open tonight!!! La Strega was on vacation last week. I had to go to a different deli a mile away. That experience made me want to write a review about my experiences at La Strega. This this deli is at the top of its game. The owner always gives high-quality food and great portion size. I always thank them for feeding me on my way out. We all have been hit with the high price of groceries lately and if you do eat out, this is the place you want to get your moneys worth. Full-fledged fresh mozzarella there is no cutting corners here at all. The owner would be horrified by the experience, I had 1 mile away she is the real deal and her help understands that her customers come there because of her I wanna thank the staff here and let you know that you not only feed me when I come in. Finally a great deli in town! This is what down town Middlebury needed. A place to eat that isn't a pizza joint. They recently opened next to the barber shop that I goto. The space that the deli took was empty for nearly a decade so it was very nice to see a business move in. This deli has a different location that has been family run and open for the last 50 years. The decor inside is clean. Nothing fancy, maybe a bit sterile but it was much bigger inside that expected. It has half dozen seats for people that wants to dine in. They have a fair assortment of deli items that you would expect. The menu isn't as expansive as Nordellis but I dont think it has to be. I ordered the Italian Combo with everything on it plus roasted pepper and hot peppers. OMG. For someone that is used to Subway what I had today was heavenly. The roll was very fresh. Perfect texture. Not too soft and not too crusty. Plenty of meats with veggies. It is the best italian combo that I have had. I cant comment on the other foods because I didnt get to taste it but judging by the italian combo i'm willing to bet the other items will be just as good. They also cater. It's been more than 6 months since I randomly stopped here for lunch and I'm still thinking about that sandwich. I don't even remember what it was... Maybe their hot cappicola? It was everything I love about Italian deli sandwiches: saucy, good bread, slightly spicy, great meat and cheese flavor. I'm sure this is probably common in the Northeast, but there is nothing like that by me. However, I've had other Italian deli sandwiches around the country, and I think this is still better than the others I've had. "The Neighborhood Deli" Growing up in the Town Plot section of Waterbury, we were blessed with great Italian deli's. Cavallos, D'Amelios, Zappones, and Napoli Import. We would walk to Cavallos all the time. They closed Cavallos in the neighborhood and opened another store on East Main Street in Waterbury. I didn't frequent that location as much because it's too far from home. But now there is a new Cavallos in Middlebury which is only minutes away from my wife's lingerie shop in the Crossroads Plaza in Middlebury. Princess Corset & Lingerie Shop. The new Cavallos is as great as I expected it to be. It's very clean and bright and the owner is always welcoming. I had a meatball sandwich and a Christmas bacala salad. Everything was delicious. They also have shelves along the wall filled with Italian specialties such as calamata olives, roasted peppers, sauces, pastas, cookies, and ladyfingers for tiramisu. They also have a display case filled with beautiful pastries and cookies. We'll be ordering from Cavallos often. read more

Always my favorite stop for an Italian combo but it's the traditional Italian American dishes just like Nona made that makes this place so special. From Escarole and white beans to panzanilla salad the owner puts her heart into making all of her dishes. Cooking on only a convection oven you'd think you were standing in grandmas kitchen on a Sunday afternoon. On my recent visit I was lucky enough to have one of my favorite late summer specialties, stuffed squash blossoms. They were made to order! The blossoms came from the owners garden, hand stuffed with cheese and prosciutto and delicately fried on the stove top to order and served with house made marinara. This is a dish I've had and made myself many times but Cavallo's is simply the best I've ever tasted. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Highly recommend. read more

Ordered Grubhub for a hot sandwich around 12. Got there for 12:35, told them I was picking up and got an attitude because I was there early and they were slammed so my sandwich wasn't done. DO NOT EAT HERE OR WORK HERE!!! I was a customer here in line waiting for my food. I saw what I assume is the boss of the establishment literally screaming at one of the middle aged workers who was cutting up veggies. The boss would not stop screaming IN FRONT OF EVERYONE absolutely embarrassing the staff memeber. The staff member who is the middle aged woman was trying to calm her boss down verbally using a calm voice. When the boss then threw an enormous tubber ware at the staff member, hitting her legs and feet. The other staff was not phased by this, and continued working as if this abuse was normal?? I will never eat here again and will not recommend this place at all. This was my first time coming here and I could not even eat my food because I had completely lost my appetite. I have only been there once. I ordered a chicken parm sandwich but I was a bit disappointed because it was microwaved. I was hoping for an oven warmed sandwich but the sandwich was soft instead of toasty. I may try a cold sandwich instead if I return. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch . It was anything but.. ordered a Cesar salad that was sub par.. the young girl who was preparing it cut the unwashed lettuce from the Costco bag in front of me. Threw one piece of chicken on top with one or 2 shakes of kraft Parmesan cheese and handed me a Newman salad dressing. Not what I was expecting from a great infamous Italian eatery.
