Best breakfast sandwich in the Hopeville area and quite possibly the town. Standard egg and cheese with your choice of meat (bacon, ham, sausage). Pro tip: Ask for extra meat for .50 more. You can thank me later. Lunch time subs done right. Everything is fresh and made to order. The bread is chewy and they add just the right amount of toppings to make a delicious grinder. The deli case is filled with standard deli fair, such as anti-pasta, pickled this and that, large whole pickles and a wide assortment of salads. Take out only. My family has been going to Ann's deli for as long as I could remember. Yesterday, I went in on my lunch break and walked right up to the counter to order. I must've waited 10 minutes before the family realized I was there. A kid about 14 years old took my order and then started slicing the meat. I started looking around and realized the kid that was making my sandwich, wasn't wearing any gloves. I'm sorry, but it was enough for me to just turn around and walk out... I normally wouldn't do something like that but this is the same kid with sweat bands up his arms who handled money for the customer right before me.. I went here based on two Waterbury locals' recommendations for the roast beef, and I was not disappointed. It was soft and tender, with not a ton of flavor on its own, but when combined with provolone, mayo, and oil and vinegar, some sort of alchemy happened that raised it high. The bread was Milite's, a Waterbury bakery with a well-deserved reputation, which helped elevate the sandwich further. (There were several Milite's products in front of the counter, and I took home an absolutely gorgeous Italian loaf.) One thing about Ann's: grinders and other items come sealed under plastic against a foam plate, the way a supermarket does it, as opposed to being wrapped in the usual paper. I'm not sure if it's because they're takeout-only, but it was the first time that I'd seen a deli do that. It *is* better for ensuring that the sandwich doesn't dry out, but you also can't rewrap it, so it depends on what you value more, I guess. They won't win any awards for atmosphere or friendliness of service, but with delis / grinder shops, that sort of thing is more of a bonus than a requirement. Ann's provided me with a good solid grinder - good enough that I'll return to try their other meats - and that's enough for me to recommend them! read more

Classic Italian deli known for their grinders (known as subs for people outside of CT) made to order. Prices are very good and the food is fresh and what you expect from a true city Italian deli. Can be busy around lunch and their hours aren't the greatest. Keep in mind this is takeout only, no seating. Everything you can think of available sandwich wise. Then common deli stuff like antipastas. Also, limited selection of their own prepackaged marinara sauce, pasta dishes, salads, and produce (onions, vegatables, bread, etc). And they have the usual soda and chip selection. Can't say enough about this place, true older mom and pop establishment. Breakfast sandwiches are dry af i choked on it and threw up all over myself literally, if you decide to go here make sure you bring at least 2 bottles of water to swallow that down. Italian combo grinder, hot fries, & a Snapple lemonade..... my idea of a perfect lunch. Personally I prefer the grinders over the sandwich bread... has a better texture. But you can't go wrong here. They do get extremely busy during lunch so I say either order ahead or make sure you have a few extra minutes. Very customizable & have great extra snack, drinks, appetizers & even deserts. My only complaint is that parking is limited so if you come during rush hour you might have to park on the street. read more

They offer Grinders, breakfast sandwiches and soups mainly. I had cater many times over the years. They make a awesome Chicken Marsala for catering. Definitely the go to deli around lunch time. Very fair prices for what you get (which is a lot mind you). It's takeout only, but it's fine considering we usually order lunch from work and go pick up. We have also gotten antipasta from here that is TO DIE for. The sandwiches are big and they wrap them up great for driving purposes (they don't fall apart and look the same as if you were to eat it there). They also have this "hot pepper relish" we call it that they add onto the sandwiches that gives it that extra "kick". It's definitely a hidden gem, but you just need to get a sandwich from here to understand what I and the previous reviewers are talking about. I used to go to Ann's Deli all the time but for what ever reason I haven't been there is quite some time. When I picked up 3 sandwiches today I thought I had the wrong order. Got an Italian combo that had 2 pieces of meat. 1 salami and 1 ham. I also got a RB sandwich. There were like 2 slices of roast beef on it. When Mr & Mrs Iannone were there it was so much better. All the sandwich had 1/2 lb of neat on them. The meat was weighed. It's sad that such a great family business had gone down hill so quick. Very disappointed . read more

Quality food (pre cooked, grinders or lunch meat). Order in advance because they're usually busy. You get what you order, you ask for pickles, you'll get pickles.
