What can you say about a store that is called "Nooooo!! Que Barato" and for those who don't know what NOOOO means its not no as in ney, its part of a swear word. Kind of like saying "Sh**!!!! Thats cheap" yup that would be the name of the store. So why did we end up in this particular store? Well after having an amazing breakfast in Chico's in Hialeah we saw in the menu an ad for the optical department at Nooooo... my hubby needs someone to fix his glasses. We figure if anyone is going to be able to fix them it would be here, everywhere else they try to sell him new ones. Our daughter was beyond surprised that we would be going there, by surprised I do mean mortified. I cannot even describe this place, its a warehouse full of .. well ... cheap stuff. As my hubby took care of his business we kept on wandering around trying in vain to find something we could say "Hey this isn't that bad". We couldn't. It was all cheap stuff. Ok wait, there is a jeweler that had a decent supply of rings, chains, charms and bracelets. Very nice lady. It is what it is, it ain't bad if you know what you are going in for is cheap stuff. In the entrance there is a huge statue of a saint (or Jesus, I am not sure) and you can donate to the local church? I don't know what its for, but you can donate. Plus if you want to buy a bejeweled cape for your very own Jesus Saint you can get those in all statue sizes. Who would have guessed? ¡'Ñooo, que bueno! I heard about the store with the name translated as "Holy sh*t, that's cheap!" from a friend who lives in the South Florida area. I've been trying to get there since 2008, and finally had my shot today. My goal was to get a guayabera embroidered with the "Ñooo!" logo. How cool is that?! In the process of seeking my treasure, I looked through a well-stocked discount store. I tried on a few panama hats, helped my friend look for the perfect pair of chonga pants, considered getting a pair of lowrise boots, and finally at the back of the hombres section, on the discount of the discounted materials rack, I found what I was looking for: a few guayaberas embroidered with the euphemism I so enjoy. The one that called to me was almost like the ugliest puppy in the pet store: it had a stain on the back shoulder and it was a little yellowed out at the shoulders. Clearly, it had lost the protective cellophane that the more expensive guayaberas have. I used my rusty Spanish to ask for a discount, and got a response of, "well, why do you want it so badly in the first place?" Fair enough, I thought. So, if you want to get a sense of culture in the Cuban community in South Florida, you could start by seeing the kinds of things that are readily available and in demand in the stores. If you bring your Spanish along with you, you'll also meet some pretty fun people, both customers and storekeepers alike. Come here if you want a cultural experience other then that this place sucks. Yes everything is really cheap, but so is the quality. I would rather go to DEALS or any major dollar store that has better quality and for the same price! This place also doesn't have air conditioning inside. It is really hot, bring a fan. read more
