While other stores have a mix of new and old or carry Florida souvenirs, Beresford Manor specializes in high quality items made in France. The inspiration for Beresford Manor came from the owners trips to France where they embraced the phrase art de vivre which translates to English as the art of living. The shop opened in 1993 and they have been in business for 30 years in downtown Lake Worth. As soon as you open the door you feel welcomed in both English and French. I came in looking for a birthday gift for a friend who loves lavender. I found the perfect item on a cart filled with bath items made with lavender from Provence. The narrow store is long and there are several rooms of linens, kitchen items, accessories, folding umbrellas, and personal care items from all over France. The melamine serving trays and bright colored placemats were especially pretty. They had a great selection of dish towels too as well as gorgeous fabric and wall paper so you can give your home the French country look. Prices ranged from a few dollars to much more. Service was top notch and friendly. I'll be back to shop for some Christmas presents.

And many of the usual items you'd find -- like t-shirts and jewelry -- but with a unique twist or sense of whimsy or of humor. There are so many different attractive items you won't know where to look first. Then amidst it all are the vintage and collectible items. And even some antiques. There's a back room of vintage clothing, too. Always seeking out a bargain, I found myself sifting through a large sale basket of costume jewelry -- all for only $3 each -- and discovered three items to bring home. We also had a nice conversation with the owner. He told us a bit about his history. I was curious about the mix of new and old items. He told us he even has customers who collect certain things and will approach him to help fill in their collections. If you stop by, allow yourself time to browse as you'll discover a new treasure in every corner. And probably find something intriguing to take home.

The South Florida Science Museum was founded in 1961 as the Junior Museum of Palm Beach County. Nancy was the founding member and President of the Board of Trustees of the South Florida Science Museum. She oversaw an addition to the museum that opened in 1964 and housed a planetarium dedicated by and named after astronaut Buzz Aldrin. She also served as the fundraiser chair of the South Florida Science Museum in 1999, 2000, and 2001. Nancy Myer passed away on August 29, 2012 but she is fondly remembered for her contributions to the museum. The museum gift shop is small but filled with carefully curated items that appeal to science enthusiasts of all ages. For the youngest there are shirts, plush toys, animal sets, and board books. Older children can enjoy science kits, gems, and the popular jellyfish tank. Other items in the store include board games, dinosaur putty, and jewelry. Items range from a few dollars so that even children on a field trip can pick up something to the more expensive gift sets. Bali Importers purchases directly from the artisans and manufacturers and ships in items from Indonesia to sell them in this spacious store. You can see pictures of the Bali artists on their website. In the store I saw clothing, beautiful fans, wood carvings, home decor, musical instruments, stickers, greeting cards, and sunglasses. They had large wooden spiders that make for one of a kind Halloween decorations. My favorite find was all of the colorful and inexpensive costume jewelry. Earring were $3 and bead bracelets were $5. I especially loved the colorful chakra adjustable bracelets. It was so fun to look through all of the beautiful gemstone jewelry.
