    The burger

So, there has been enough written about this place, and I don't want to go on and on. But this is a solid burger joint. I have been there with my lady friend a couple of times now, and each time we are impressed by the burgers - American Cheeseburger style, and the tator tots with dipping sauce. I don't think this is an 'OH MY GOD IF YOU HAVENT BEEN THERE YOU HAVENT LIVED' situation, but would recommend that if you are in the mood for an awesome burger, definitely hit this place up. I have travelled from the other side of the city to go there when I get a craving. Two thumbs up!

Being a fan of Burger Foundry, Burger Theory & Burger Addiction, I was very much looking forward to the new & trendy 'Nordburger.' It was also great to discover that one of my MasterChef favourites, Michael Weldon, was the man behind it all. I entered Nordburger last night with high hopes. My first impression of the restaurant was an extremely positive one. The layout was both visually and practically pleasing and my order of a nordburger, tator tots and a can of coke only clocked up about $13. I loved the American style feel of the joint and the idea of being able to watch your food being made in the open kitchen. After a pleasant wait of no more than 15 minutes, my order was ready. The burger was a fairly decent size for what I had paid, and was well presented. The tator tots were deliciously crispy and salted and my can of coke was ice cold. Now it was time to taste the order! The soft bun of the burger was fantastic, and the salad and sauces were of high quality. I felt that the only thing letting it down was the taste of the burger itself. Although it was succulent and juicy, the flavours were nothing special. Compared with other burger joints around Adelaide, the burger seemed terribly bland, and I felt it needed more spices and possibly could have been cooked slower. I will definitely be returning sometime in the future to try the other menu options. I think that next time I will opt against sauce and mustard, because these sauces almost make it seem like I'm in a down market fast food chain. The nord sauce is a real highlight and I think the burger could have done with more of that. I have given Nordburger 3 stars, literally the only thing bringing it down being the burger. Service was fantastic and staff were extremely friendly and approachable. If I see an improvement in the burgers I would happily give Nordburger 5 stars!

Music is dope. Ordered the classic cheese burger and some chilli fries on the side. Easy to eat but could have done with a slightly bigger pattie. Awesome service and will so be back. Yuuuuum. :)

The Adelaide community had really built this one up for me; I'm always worried that I get too caught up in the hype. I'm a big fan of burger theory and had heard many comparisons - so my expectations were very high (esp considering one of the owners is Masterchef Alumni). I have to say I was let down by the burger, but let's set a scene. We went on a Sunday later morning/almost lunchtime, it was pretty busy, but we expected this! I loved the interior but the layour was awkward, mean there has to be a lot of excuse me's/sorry can I just/do you mind if? I feel like the whole thing would be better with a traditional fast food layout, counter at the back tables filling the rest of the room. I ordered the regular cheeseburger and a salted caramel milkshake; the server was super friendly and talked us through his favourites. The food and drinks were okay, but nothing mind blowing, I'd recommend the shake but only just. Maybe they would have tasted better if I hadn't had to question my own moral compass whilst obtaining a seat, maybe not.

Finally got myself to Nordburger! There was a line up but mostly for takeaway. There's probably no more than 15 bar style seats in house but the turnover is pretty fast it doesn't take long to get a seat. The music did get kinda loud while we were there so it was hard to converse but I suspect they don't really want you to hang around and hoard the seats. The menu is straightforward with choices of burgers and hotdogs followed by sides of fries, tater tots or chilli cheese fries. We had the classic cheeseburger tonight, beef, cheese, pickle mustard and ketchup in lightly toasted bun. I noticed they smash their burger patties just like some burger joints I saw in America. The cheeseburger was delish and up there with some of the best around town. They also sell milkshakes, classic flavours of strawberry, choc and vanilla or specials like espresso, Snickers and more. Being a peanut butter maniac, I tried the Peanut Butter & Jelly shake - so good! Pricing is very reasonable with burgers starting at $8.70 and sides $3. It's a decent serve of fries and tater tots, they really pile the tray! All in all a good burger joint with awesome milkshakes.

I enjoy going to this place because there is such a cheerful atmosphere inside! You can see your food being prepared by the chef, I think watching that is fun lol. And tater tots are so yummy! Chilli cheese fries are good too, the fries stays quite crispy. As I am not a huge sweet tooth, I think their shakes are a bit too sweet haha, here's the losing star. They are still amazing it's just my personal preference! If you are going to order the chilli cheese fries... Please! Just order that and a drink first! It is so good but so filling!!!!! I ordered mine with extra beef chilli(I love chilli food), and a shake and I struggled finishing them! Sooooo full ahh! I wasn't extremely hungry though, and you can always order something else if you feel you are not full after these! The meal comes out quite fast! Street parking available. When it's busy lunch time, keep your ears up as they call your name when your meal is done, there's no number plate or anything. As its noisy and the music gets loud, sometimes you wouldn't hear when your are called.

OK, Nordburger. If I had written this review after the first time I had been there, it would have gotten 5 stars, hands down. However, I have since been back a couple more times, and have found it to be a bit hit and miss. All three times I have had the same food, a Nordburger with cheese (NO PICKLES!), Tater Tots with fry sauce, and a Salted Caramel Shake. The Tater Tots, were just as you would expect them to be, pretty much the same as the frozen tater tots you can buy in the supermarket. But the burger and the shake the first two times I went there - OMG! The burger was fresh, and made with really good quality ingredients, and the shake was AMAZING!! However, the third time that I went there it was much later at night, and the food was VERY ordinary. The shake was undrinkable and the tater tots inedible. the tater tots, tasted like the oil was overdue to be changed, and the shake tasted like the icecream was no good. The burger was still great, but it didnt make up for the other two items. Now whilst this was at 9:30pm - it was on a Saturday night - and Nordburger is open until 10pm. In my opinion, a burger bar, that is open late, should be able to serve the same quality of food no matter what time of the day you go to eat there. I still think it is worth a look, particularly if you are headed in there at normal dinner time. The atmosphere was nice, although a little crowded at times, and the staff are very friendly. But I would not recommend this one for a late night feast. I will be back, but after my late night experience, it will be a while.

Ok, now that I have been to The States, I feel like I can review burger joints properly. Nordburger hit the ground running when they first opened their doors and for good reason. They serve quality simple American Style burgers. This is not about fancy relishes, vegetables, or patties. This is good quality beef, bacon, cheese, tomato and lettuce. I think that some guests come here expecting something unique. Don't do that. Nordburger are trying to stay true to the traditional sense of an American style burger joint. And I think they really deliver. I ordered the Nordburger, because the first taste has to be their signature dish. It was a great burger! The patty was flavorsome and not overcooked (awesome), the bun was fresh and not too big, and veggies were sliced thick. There was also a good portion of sauce on the burger without it dripping everywhere. This is what burgers in America are supposed to be like, so well done Nordburger for staying true! As for tatertots, well they are just so damn tasty and crunchy! But, next time I think I need to try the chilli fries because I got automatic food envy when I saw those come out.

You'll often hear a lot of burger enthusiasts state that American burgers are vastly superior to anything they can get in Australia, and for I while I thought " What could be so different? Surely, its just the same bit o' meat in a bun with some extra stuff. After returning from the US a couple of months ago I can assure you that there IS a difference; the burgers over there are just.. BETTER. Meatier, juicer and tastier - and these aren't from some hipster burger bar in the rough part of town; these are BASIC burgers you can get from national chains like Five Guys and In-n-Out. You'll see burger bars popping up now that serve burgers with all sorts of exotic ingredients from single-origin kale to spicy lime mayo; all of which hide the fact that the Australian burgers are generally just dry and bland - no one had really nailed the BASIC AMERICAN burger - Beef patty, american cheese, lettuce, tom and maybe a cheeky bit of bacon. That was until I finally sat down at Nordburger: Before I even had a bite the first thing I noticed was the interior; A lot of burger places in Adelaide have this mentality that in order to be an 'American-style' burger bar they need to have 'memorabilia' and booths with red and white checkered upholstery. Nordburger is modern and casual; communal tables and bar stools - it actually felt like the definition of a 'burger' 'bar'. The kitchen isn't hidden away in some dark corner behind a window in the wall; you can actually see the staff right in front of you cooking your delicious burger, manically running around one another while still having a bit of fun. Burger of choice for the first visit -The Bacon Double, as soon as I saw it one the menu I didn't even bother reading the rest - it was meant to be. Finally, a basic American burger in Adelaide; it was amazing. The patty has cooked perfectly, brown with just a little bit of pink in the middle. It was juicy, but so juicy that most of it runs down to your elbows. There was nothing dry about this burger, even the buns had a fluffiness to them. The bacon, cheese and salad compliment the burger perfectly, no need for extra fancy sauce. I ate every last delicious drop of that burger. I was confident enough to state right there and then that this burger was the best in Adelaide. I've been back a few times now and still to this day can say the same thing. I literally can't fault Nordburger. Burgers are #1, sides are great, imported sodas, reasonable price, energetic staff, social atmosphere, casual, modern, local... I could go on, but it's making me crave another visit one more and more. Highly recommend. 5 stars is not enough, needs at least 50 stars with a bald eagle, guns blazing and riding a grizzly bear. U-S-A!

I can't remember where I first heard about this little burger shop but I found myself wanting to pay it a visit as soon as possible. My friend and I went in about 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was quite busy. The staff were so friendly and actually looked like they were enjoying themselves whilst working. The interior is plain white tiles and extremely simple but it just works. The seating area is small but because you are served quickly and food is brought out quick, turnover is fast too. My friend and I both went with a cheeseburger and it was made quickly right in front of our eyes. The tiny kitchen area seems difficult to work in but all the staff make it seem effortless and have a great system in place. The food is fresh despite Norburger being fast food. You don't get the feeling of sickness and regret usually associated with fast food after eating it. I adored the quaint silver platters everything is severed on. Staff clear plates efficiently and stop to chat and ask how your meal was. One girl even asked my friend and I if we were Instagramming or Yelping as we were on our phones I can't wait to go back and try the hot dogs and the milkshakes. This place is going to be even more popular as time goes on.

I added cheese, beetroot and egg for $1.50 each, because I love me some egg and beet root on a burger! My boyfriend ordered the Special of the Week which was the Tradie Burger. Heaven in my mouth. The buns are soft and fresh, the meat juicy, the flavours fantastic and the fries golden. I love soft, squishy burgers and these hit the spot. Served on wooden boards with a side of fries ($3.50 extra) the serving size was pretty generous! I am nursing a burger baby as I type. First of all, whiskey is native to the bluegrass state (KENTUCKY) and though whiskey is 'the drink' of the moment it's time too shall pass... Since the 1700s New Orleans is and has always been a rum city, but hey, why be bothered with the details or with authenticity, right? I mean who cares that the iconic poboy sandwich is supposed to be served on a French baguette (which could likely be sourced from another local biz just around the corner -Le Carpe Diem, Grenfell Street) when you could use a (possibly cheaper?) inferior Vietnamese roll? Back to the food: we sampled the fried chicken which was a very small serve for the price and it was accompanied by a mayonnaise 'sauce' - why is it needed? Is there bread to make a sandwich?!? Um, no. So, I gave it a go and found the sauce bland, tasteless, and utterly unnecessary. It's mayonnaise! With nothing else. Fried chicken in the States doesn't ever come with a sauce! Ever. Back to the chicken, it had a delightful crunch and was reasonably well seasoned but far too greasy. If served with grease glistening then it should sit on a piece of bread to soak up the oil OR should be blotted with paper. Not good. Next we had the Marlin tartar which was one of the few unique and creative takes on NOLA cuisine; it was presented on a crisp much like a Zapps' Potato Chip (for Western Hemi folks). This is something I can recommend without reservation. Then we sampled the rabbit stew - very, very tasty with just enough seasoning, however too much rice and not enough rabbit. One last thing, it is a total and complete sacrilege to have a Mardi Gras party on the first Friday of Lent. Pure and simple commercialization. If you can't do it on Shrove Tuesday, just give it up!
