A great many years ago, I was told if you get great quality knives, you actually only need 2 (3 if you want to slice bread), so I invested in top of the line Wusthofs, and sure enough, the advice was correct. Fast forward 10 years and my knives, which have seen numerous adventures and use in the kitchen, were finally not the sharpest tools in the shed. Luckily I found Nordic Knives in BoDo. The cost of sharpening my 2 knives was only $10 ($1/inch), the work is superb, and they were ready the next day. I'd recommend Nordic Knives for their courteous, quality service -- plus you should stop in just to see their extensive displays. Update: Wow! I almost forgot how effortless sharp knives are to use in food prep. I'll have to be careful until I get used to them so I don't cut myself. read more

Used to own a knife shop, it's harder to have a retail busines than you might expect. Dave Harvey and Co. have THE nicest knife shop that I have ever been in. Not the biggest, not the cheapest, but the nicest. The cabinets are all custom made hardwood, well lit to display the wares. The shop is spacious, and the staff warm and polite. The knives are of the very best quality and the space is quite unexpected for such a "touristy" location such as Solvang, but it is a very pleasant surprise. Have purchased knives from Dave in the past, and picked up a very nice small fixed blade knife from Dave in person, and the transaction could not have been easier. The BEST! read more

I'm often leery of 5-star reviews: Are they real? Are they friends with the owners? Did they get something for it? Well...this review is real. I'm an acquaintance of the staff ONLY after multiple purchases. Nope, I haven't received any form of compensation to write this review; the friendly folks at Nordic Knives will learn about after I submit it. Enough about all that - here's why I've given them a 5-star review: I've purchased multiple knives from the store, but I buy them long distance. I look on their site and have to rely on their assistance for my selection, payment and delivery and every time, the customer service has been consistent. It's a pleasure talking with Daniel or Dave because they don't treat me like a woman that doesn't know anything about knives (though, admittedly, I have plenty to learn about knives - I mostly just recognize their quality and appreciate the craftsmanship) and they gently educate me. Both gentlemen are very knowledgeable about knives and the makers whose product they carry. They have assisted me in buying just the perfect gift by showing me knives that haven't quite made their way to the site based on my description of the features I'm looking for. They try their best to stay within my budget and at times have shipped it to a third party for scrimshaw (a scrimshaw artist they recommended and I find phenomenal). I'm comfortable that what I see listed on the website is a true representation of what I can expect when it arrives. I have a Randall on order . And the phone call that I made is any indication of the service and delivery , it should be EXCELLENT . Daniel took a fair amount of time to discuss a Randall that I was looking for, that he didn't have in stock . But assured me he would have one in about 3 weeks. Also the price I was quoted was hundreds less than eBay current costs, and the extras that came on it as well . A group of us went in here to check stuff out--very helpful people and a massive selection of all types of knives. My nephew bought a Spyderco and for an excellent price, $50 cheaper than elsewhere on the web. My sister in law bought two kitchen serrated knives, for excellent prices as well. He spent 2 hours with us. My husband loves custom knives. Drove all the way to Solveng just to go to this store with my family and it was closed. No hours of operation on the door or window. For a business that gets good reviews you'd think they would have such information out front. There was a farmers market going on down the street so traffic was heavy that day. Don't think that was a good day to be closed for a business. read more
