Poor customer service especially the customer service department due to lack of training and unprofessional attitude. There are a few sales associates I have had a positive experience with over the years and will only work with them regardless of the department, but most associates are pompous and rude by continuing social conversation with coworkers while customers are waiting. I went in looking for clothes for a vacation. I walked through for a good 10-15 min without once being acknowledged. I finally went to the register and asked for a dressing room. Mackenna assisted me into my room. She was the only helpful saleswoman that I spoke with. I put on my dress and went to the large mirror to get a better look. I grabbed another saleswoman who passed by to get another customer a room. I asked her if I should get a different size because the seam made me feel like it was just not the right fit. She said "I can see your stomach a little. Maybe it will look good on a better day..." what does that even mean? Let me be clear when I say that Nordstrom is not the norm for many, including myself. If I come to Nordstrom, it is to treat myself. I come from years and years of customer service, sales, and management background. So when I suggest that this girl learns to filter her opinion, I mean it. Let's think about Nordstrom as an entire company. I could have easily been a first time Nordstrom shopper and THAT was my experience? It's all about perspective. I may be your 100th customer for the day, but you are my first impression of today's shopping experience. If anything, this rating is a "I hope she learns the Nordstrom way." I ended up buying the dress, dispite her rude and unprofessional comment. I simply want to point out... if you want to make the sale or make commission... don't say things that push me away from buying the item. There are MANY ways of telling me to get a bigger size if that's the case.. "Maybe you'd feel comfortable in a different fit." "I have something similar that you may feel better in." "Let's try a different size to see if this style is right for your body type." I am not typically the one to complain, but the way I see it is: if just 1 customer comments... there are more than likely 10 others with the same thoughts but didn't take the time to share... or come back. I hold Nordstrom to high standards. I grew up wearing ALL nordstrom. This experience was simply enough for me to consider taking the trip to the South Center or Seattle location instead. I get that what she said may not be "the worst", but I am sitting at home hours later and am still thinking about it... so, if I come back and return the dress, don't be surprised. All in all, I want to focus on a solution, not the problem. To be honest, the only reason based off of my experience that I wouldn't return the dress is because at the register, Mackenna was able to genuinely connect with me and offered to have my dress steamed. Forgot to leave a review a few weeks ago, but the attitude of the staff is insane. I was really excited to buy these pants I found on the racks upstairs, after I tried them on. The worker who was checking me out was very passive and was insulting my taste by saying, "You're soooo brave for buying these." (sarcasm in this, btw). They continued on to say, "I feel like two toned pants are for somebody, but not me." Like do you want me to buy or not? Sometimes it's not necessary to comment your opinions especially if you're being rude about it and it's going to make costumers feel bad and insecure about their style. read more

I did a review on google about two months ago but figured I should write it on here especially after another positive service today. Jake in the men's department downstairs (Tacoma location) is such a gentleman and I can't express enough how professional this man is and what a huge help he has been. 6 months ago my boyfriend and I went in about a pair of pants that had ripped in the pockets and we found out it was due to washing them in our machines. We purchased a $200 pair of slacks and have had them dry cleaned instead. Today I went in because these nice pair are doing the same thing (I was all stressed out) and lucky me got Jake again today. The holes are due to my boyfriend putting his hands in his pockets but Jake within seconds had taken the pants to someone in the back, waived the fee and had everything taken care of. So much less stress for me & he is truly so genuine and nice. Nordstrom you should feel lucky to have Jake a part of your team. I can't say anything bad about Nordstrom. Any wrong they've ever done has always been righted. I am a die-hard Nordstrom fan. They have the best customer service, the best return policy, the best selection, and I could go on and on... I guess the only thing is the prices, but you pay for the quality and I'm pretty good at shopping the sales, so yup, I still love them! One of my favorite things about Nordstrom is their MOD Card. You can hook it up to your bank account so it works as a debit card and you gain reward points for everything you spend. Throughout the year there are days where you can gain double or tripple reward points. Then they give you Nordstrom notes (free money) for what you spent. There are other perks that come along with this as well, like shopping pre-sales before sizes run out and various other treats throughout the year. So I'm basically a huge Nordstrom lover. I took my Mom to the Tacoma location of Nordstrom to get a dress for my upcoming wedding in Aruba. The 1st visit was great and despite the long wait, we were taken care of. She found a beautiful (overpriced) dress and I left with the hefty bill. We were promised that we'd get notified when the dress was done altering in about a week. I did get my promised phone call although the special undergarments we had ordered took a bit longer. It was a bit un-nerving as they had it sent to my house but didn't provide a receipt or a tracking #. I just had to 'trust' it was coming. We came back to pick up the dress and had a guy in his 20's working the counter at the dress dept (not judging). He found the dress and got us into a dressing room so we could confirm the fit. I've spent many a dollar at Nordstrom buying clothes, jeans, etc.. Usually the service is what keeps you coming back. The service was already sub-par from what I could tell but I didn't say anything. It wasn't until we exited and I asked him for a bag for the dress that I had a major issue. He told me he had to go find someone to help. I thought "Really? To get a BAG for a dress? You need help?" And sure enough, he tells the other clerk that we need to pay for our alterations and that he doesn't know how to do it. Anyone who shops at Nordstrom knows that you pay for alterations first before they touch the garment. And so I speak up and say that I already paid for it and I'm not paying again. The lady clerk turns over the alteration receipt he was holding and sure enough, there is the receipt with the paid in full. She is flustered and hands me the dress in a bag and apologizes for the misunderstanding. Apparently he's new and had no idea how to work a counter. Maybe I'm overly critical but I've been working in retail for 7 years.. You don't work the counter if you're not ready. read more

In general, Nordstrom is a great store. It has a wonderful selection, wonderful ambiance, and generally wonderful people... Unfortunately, I can't see myself shopping at this location anymore. My last 3-5 visits have been pretty dreadful. Last summer I had an appointment with the Chanel counter to get my makeup done. Silly me, I went to this appointment sans makeup, and was ignored by multiple staff members. It was so uncomfortable, I literally stood in front of the counter looking directly at the employees until a few moments later one finally said, seemingly irritated, "Can I help you?". I learned my lesson and have remembered to wear makeup and good clothing for each of my visits if I want any inkling of respect or assistance. Alas, for the last two visits this has not worked out, either. Both have involved the brow waxing area. Both times I went, made an appointment that was within the hour for a brow wax. Both times I waited around past my appointment time for the lady to be done waxing a previous customer - this part I am pretty understanding of. I mean, I made a last minute appointment so no big deal, right? No...you must wait, and wait, and wait. The first time I waited it out and all was well - the lady did fine, was friendly enough, even though it felt a little awkward since I had been lurking around the store for ~40 minutes, constantly glancing over to see if she had finished with her other customer. But she did a great job, so no biggie. Today, similar beginning, different lady. Wait, and wait - feel awkward because the lady rushes past me when she's done with the other customer. What? Where's she going? Oh, she wants to be behind the counter now to help the well dressed, elderly gentleman. Even though there's another saleswoman over there. Ok, so I wait a few more minutes - literally just standing uncomfortably next to the waxing area. She finally looks up and says she will be with me in a minute. I'm thinking really though? I have an appointment like 10 minutes ago....a few more minutes pass. Another sales associate sees how uncomfortable I look and asks if I've been helped. I said sort of, and asked her to help erase my name off of the appointment. It's really nothing personal because this sort of thing always happens - I get ignored forever, but if I manage to get somebody's attention I get really good service. It's just a matter of my appearance being up to par with their standards I guess? Plus I don't want anybody pouring hot wax on my face if they think I'm not good enough to assist in the first place. I am giving Nordies a 2 stars for a "Meh. I've experienced better." because while some employees can be great, I just feel so judged by the staff when I'm in the store... read more

Nordstrom is the best department store anyone can ask for. I was really happy to see that they had one at the Tacoma Mall. Nordstrom in general has a really great return policy. Go to their website - TONS of stuff on sale when you order online (and returns are free if you bring it to the store. But if you're lazy like me, I pay the $5 return shipping fee and the postman just knocks on your door and takes the return box from you). The website is so much better than going to Nordstrom Rack, which I was a fan of, until I started finding the sales online. Free shipping, and your dressing room is your own house! Once I bought an item at nordstrom, and the saleswoman told me that the price was marked wrong, it was actually supposed to be going to the Rack, so I got an almost $30 discount. How awesome is that?! And when shopping at the department store, you can get your receipt emailed to you. They use iphones to ring you up, how convenient is that? More on convenience, they also do free alterations if you buy an item that is not on sale. I have used this service quite a few times. I also love the handwritten thank you cards. read more

Very positive experience shopping with Nordstrom this afternoon. They have a lot less items due to Covid but still a good selection of cute shoes and clothing on sale! I lost my anklet my grandma passed down to me sometime between using the changing room and trying on shoes.. I was freaking out but the lady in charge of the women's shoes section (I assume) was extremely empathetic and did everything she could to help me find it! My experience at Tacoma Mall Nordstrom men's shoe department. Today I had the time and opportunity to return a pair of Ecco shoes I had purchased quite a while back. The rubber soles had started to actually melt, touch the bottom and a sticky rubber melted to your hand. I approached the department and Joseph greeted me right away, I showed him my shoes and demonstrated the issue; he took the shoes and returned back to me quickly with the senior fit specialist,Emilie Butler, she explained how this could happen over time but I rebutted with "but these are like new, I've only worn these a few times." Emilie agreed on the appearance and condition, then suggested that I pick a pair that I could find as a replacement, to which I agreed. After examining several models I decided on two, she asked my foot size and she quickly disappeared and as quickly reappeared with two boxes. Emilie assisted my with one pair and I did the try it walk, I found they looked great but the soles were not thick enough that they pushed against the ball of my right foot. We tried the other pair on and they were just right. Emilie walked me to the cash register and made the cost adjustments even adding $5 bucks to my card. I had forgotten my Nordstrom shoe trees and she caught up with me before I had left the store, rather than just tossing them in my Nordstrom bag she installed them into each shoe then carried the bag for me to the exit door which then I was prepared to take them out to my truck but Emilie offered to take my shoes out to my truck in the sprinkling rain, to which I agreed. She not only exemplified the Nordstrom customer service but went many steps beyond. All during the experience she and I had nice antidotal conversations. Emilie was a great listener and returned with information as well. Bottom line if you need men's shoes ask for Emilie Butler in advance and have the best purchasing experience. read more

Oh Nordstrom, I love you so, and yet how you consistently disappoint me. Being a size 28 is not easy here. It's next to impossible to find a pair of jeans that fits me, and god forbid I seek out something that isn't a boot or straight-cut leg. The highlight of this particular store, like all others I'm sure, is the outstanding, friendly staff who always help me find adorable things. Men's shoes is always especially well stocked (I never fail to find a size 8) and I have recently purchased several especially cute shirts. Alterations are always ready on time. HOWEVER, the bottom line is that this store needs to seriously re-examine the jeans they are stocking as well as the sizes that are being ordered. I'm tired of being disappointed and having to go buy my jeans at other stores. Also, more of a Fred Perry selection would be nice. read more

Horrible customer service!! Make up counter had one person in there that was being assisted and myself. There were 5 other workers that were chit chatting amongst themselves laughing and not paying attention to anything else. Then one of the workers had walked right by me and then proceeded to say "do you need help with anything?" I turn around about to talk and she dismisses me and was asking the question to another co-worker. Then the other workers start to disappear so I make my way to the last woman to ask if anyone can help me. And she proceeds to mock me saying "oh no ones paying attention to you." This is the worst display of customer service I've ever encountered. I never write reviews and I was in such disbelief as to what just happened that I just had to put this up. I won't be returning to the Nordstrom's make up counter at Tacoma Mall. Seems as though they are only interested in talking amongst themselves vs. working. I Love Nordstrom!!! Nordstrom has always been a favorite of mine ever since I was a little Girl running through the original Downtown Seattle store. Nordstrom remained a staple for shoes throughout My Teenage Years. I remember buying my first pair of Keds, Jazz, and LJ Simone's (with the clock) from Nordstrom's. My latest must have is a Vitamin E hand lotion from the Jo Malone line. This stuff is absolutely incredible! Talk about a must have for any Ladies hand bag. And its wonderful for all you guys out there who want to have nice smooth hands. The lotion actually has a bit of a masculine smell to it. Go check it out!! It comes in a block tube and will run you about $39. Also, for those of you wanting a great make-up experience, I recommend making an appointment with Jonathan. Just ask for him by name. Hooray!!!! The Tacoma Mall finally gets an updated department store that is worth visiting! The new Nordstrom is much brighter and better organized than the old store, complete with clean restrooms/lounges on both floors and an updated cafe. It's easy to find things, and it seemed like there were a lot more dressing rooms in this store than before. And the piano player is still there. Nothing like some live piano music to calm my frayed shopper's nerves. =) Our post-Christmas visit was made even better by the help of Dallas, an awesome salesperson in Individualist. She not only knew the full selection of dresses available in her own department but was able to pull pieces from other departments to complement them and told us where to find other items we were looking for. I was really impressed by how helpful and knowledgeable she was. The salesperson I dealt with in the jeans department was not so great - "oh, that's from Point of View, I don't know if there are any other sizes (and I won't check for you even though it's only 10 feet away), sorry!" But in general, loved the new store, loved the clothes selection, glad to see the Tacoma Mall get an great little update. Now, if Macy's would only do the same... read more

What can I say about Nordies that hasn't already been said? By far the best customer service ever!! Love them. I buy my children's shoes ONLY at Nordstrom for the quality of the product and the service we receive when we are there. Their sales associates are so patient with my indecisive young children but we NEVER feel rushed. Recently we came into the Bellevue Square Location after the anniversary sale. I had purchased the wrong size shoe for my 6 year old and wanted to possibly find his size. They were sold out online, but lo and behold they had his size at the store. I had mentioned I wanted to return the shoe I bought online in order to purchase the right size but had forgotten the shoes at home by mistake. I had asked to see if they could transfer the shoe to Tacoma where I could exchange the them, but instead they sold the pair to me for the sales price making it so pain free and simple. The manager and his sales associate went above and beyond to help us out. In this day in age, it is so hard to find good service, but I never have to worry about it at Nordies!! read more

I've probably been to this Nordstrom store at least 30 times. It's not the biggest Nordstrom, but it has a good selection of products. I usually purchase my dress shirts from this store and the two ladies that work in men's apparel always greet me by my name and know the shirt size and style that I like. I've returned some items here and I have never had a problem getting money refunded even I have thrown away the receipt. I'll admit I don't shop at Nordstrom for all of my clothes, but when I do, Nordstrom consistently delivers excellent service and products. read more

I used to work at Nordstrom and was always taught customers first and greet everyone with a smile and ask them what they are looking for especially if they look lost. I never have gotten the kind of customer service Nordstrom SHOULD have here in Tacoma. I needed help finding an item and had to approach someone who was on their cellphone and she immediately said she was helping a customer through email. She then followed me saying explaining more of why she was on her cell phone I didn't care nor did I want that kind of service. It's hard to approach employees when they are talking or on the cellphones when their attention should be on customers. This is my first review I've ever done on this site and I'm sad it had to be a bad review on Nordstrom because it is my favorite store. The store manager at Tacoma needs to have another training on customer service and expectations the company has for everyone who walks through those doors. read more

Horrible sales staff!! The building was empty. I came in looking for work clothes. I shop online so it was a treat to get some time off work to go shop and try on before buying. No one helped me. No one let me into fitting rooms (savvy, b.p. Tbd). It took me so long to find my sizes I ended up staying close to closing time. 2 salespeople who were standing and talking saw my hands full. The guy said "are you doing ok?" I responded that I realized it was close to closing time and would be out shortly, put my stuff down, went home and bought online. I have worked in high end retail my entire life. Where I work you don't get to collect commission by standing around. Get it together guys. read more

In the men's department they carry Patagonia and vineyard vines which are my two favorite brands. My pre teen daughter loves to shoe shop, they carry wide variety of brands kids like to wear. My wife has been wanting a Gucci belt for a while, I was going to go up to Seattle and have her pick one out, our plans fell thru. I figured I would go to the Nordstrom at the Tacoma mall, I was disappointed because they didn't carry them, not sure why. The sales women( Jana ) did a great job spending time on her iPad, so I ordered one and payed for it, I came back a week later to pick it up, I was told to pick it up at the special order Dept, mind you I spent $500 on a belt, and expected kind of the Nordstrom treatment like all the other times we bought something there, I was dismayed by the treatment I got, while I was waiting for her to find my order I saw the sign free gift wrapping and was planning on asking if she would do that for me. She found my shipping box and handed it to me, I asked are you going to open it so I can see it, she grabbed the box opened it and handed the belt to me all wrapped in plastic, with the type of tape you can't open without a knife, I looked at her confused. The lady began helping another customer, I embarrassed my self by losing my temper because I couldn't open the plastic with the tape all over it, out of frustration I said the F word. She heard me and said O my Goodness!! Loud. I stuffed the $500 belt back into the stupid plastic bag it came in. As I was leaving she yelled have a great Christmas, I walked into there store with a smile on my face, I walked out with a red face, pissed. I got home and looked at the belt, and what do you know it was the wrong belt. I didn't get the lady's name that ruined my day but she was Asian. read more
