The room we're staying in is really run down. Didn't look like anyone cleaned the room, the tub has a HUGE disgusting stain on it, there were flies and a BIG OL SPIDER. Unfortunately we don't have anywhere else to go since we already paid. We had no choice but to go get a bottle of lysol and disinfect the whole entire room. If the room wasn't bad enough, on their website it said they had a pool and free continental breakfast but I was just informed that the pool wouldn't be opening until some time in June (it's literally memorial weekend so it's crazy that it's not open) and they don't have the continental breakfast until some time in June as well. This is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. If they only have breakfast during certain times of the year then say that on your website. If the pool isn't opening memorial weekend like 99% of other hotels do, then say that! Don't waste your time at this place. I'm sure there are other better hotel/motels to stay at around here.

The choices were camping or staying at a hotel. I didn't feel like loading my car up with camping, fishing and trade-show stuff, so I checked Yelp for reviews. Sunset Resort didn't have anything available, but the Kiptopeke Inn had plenty of rooms open and was comparably priced. The rooms face outside, and my first impression was, hey this is where Earl (My Name is Earl) lives! The room had an identical set up. Tip: Be sure to fully close your curtains or what happens in your room is there for all to see. Nothing special about the room other than there is no bedside clock. I had my cell phone, but it is always nice to wake up, roll over and see the time without having to pick your phone up. There is a microwave and a fridge in there. Flat screen TV, although it is satellite TV, so the channels are limited and some are kinda fuzzy. No plates, napkins or utensils in the room. The pool looked nice, I didn't swim, but it was nicely lit at night. So why the two stars? Well, first of all, this is a $70 per night hotel. I paid (with fees and taxes) ~$150. The breakfast buffet is woeful. Several mini bagels, a few pastries, some mini muffins in plastic and not much else. Yeah, there was coffee and juice, but the cups aren't much bigger than shot glasses. I overheard some other guests say the hotel wasn't ready for prime time and that they had no hot water in their shower. At least mine was ok! After I was out fishing all day, I came back to take a shower and found although my bed was made, they hadn't replenished the tiny shampoos. After my shower I went down to the front desk to get one so I would be able to wash my hair in the morning. They were out of them (which is probably why they didn't resupply my room). To their credit, I found two shampoo containers outside of my room in the morning. So, overall, if this had been a $70 per night place, 4 stars, because my expectations would have been in line with the price (value). But given how short they fell compared to a Marriott at the same price, there is work to be done. I wouldn't dream of staying here again at the current price.

It is a…read morecute condo - 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, fully equipped kitchen, nice little living room, laundry facilities a couple doors down, 5 minute walk to the boardwalk/beach, and walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. I was quite happy with everything - I mean, it wasn't a dream mansion, but it's $75/night!! - until I realized the neighbors upstairs are super noisy! It sounds like they're doing construction all day. I imagine if we had come in the summer, it would have been awesome, since we probably would have spent most of the time on the beach, however, since it's November, we spent a lot of time inside, watching movies. The TV in the living room is hung quite high, and it's an awkward way to watch TV unless you're lying down on the couch. Everything is in good, clean condition, and the owners have taken a lot of care in decorating the place. Lots of blankets and towels available, which was nice. Again, for $75/night, I think this was a steal - hopefully, the upstairs neighbors will learn to be more considerate or put carpeting down, in which case, I would love to come back during beach season!

I must admitted at first we were a little nerves because of the outside appearance and being right on the corner block. Once inside we were very impressed with the cozy home get away look. it was very clean and each room had its own personality with a splash of color. We went to the grocery store first, which we should of waited, because it was well stocked, with a full size refrigerator and stove w/microwave also pots and pans and dishes.Plenty of cleaning supplies as well as bath towels and wash clothes. Their was a small (tabletop) ironing board and no iron, so we notified the owners and they had someone who lived on the property to bring us a new one the same day, which was very helpful and saved us from purchasing one. The Boardwalk has many types of cuisine that you may want,with in walking distance; as well as different activities and shopping.The Irving Condo's also provide you with beach equipment which is helpful and saves you from having to purchase chairs & tents to enjoy your beach time. Their is only one parking space available per condo, thankfully there was a neighbor who offered her parking space to us to use for our guests and family who visit. My husband and I had the opportunity to walk to the beach and watch the sunrise, it was breathtaking and romantic. We rented the condo for a week we were pleased.

I must have passed it a dozen times, but just haven't had the chance to go in. I finally had the chance to pop my head in there when my friends were visiting from Montreal. It's quite a spacious space. They've divided the pamphlet areas into general state attractions on one wall and more localized to Norfolk and surrounding cities that are included in Hampton Roads/Coastal Va on another. I really loved that they have info of the other cities and not just Norfolk. They also have a beautiful "OMG NFK" art mural that is in line with the art work that can be found in the Neon district nearby. They have lots of Norfolk themed merch for sale and items from local businesses and artists. This is such a great office full of info for tourists and locals alike! The lady behind the desk greeted us upon entry and was more of "I'm over here if you need me" and not overbearing. Be a good local and check it out and play tourist in your own city! You might discover something new and not know your city as well as you thought! :)

The USO of Hampton Roads hospitality room in Norfolk International Airport is a long overdue…read morereview. Located on the second floor above the rental car agencies. Just look for all the flags. The USO welcomes all active and retired military of the U.S and families. This service extends to NATO Allies. They offer comfort to those traveling through Hampton Roads. Things like a computer with printer, TV, games for kids, a quiet room for resting and also drinks with snacks. A live board shows arrivals and departures. The main room is nicely decorated with military items like Challenge coins. The staff is always amazing and helpful. They love visitors that stop by even if it's for a quick snack. I believe staff are volunteers, so treat them extra nice. Cannot recommend more. Stop by and say hello if your military personnel, or family. Keep in mind they do have hours, but they are fantastic! Open until midnight.

Peaceful and enjoyable experience. Once we entered the church Brenden helped our group inside and allowed us time to look around. He was eager to answer all of our questions and customized his talk to what we were interested in. The history here is incredible and we enjoyed learning about this piece of American history. Kudos to St. Luke's for finding Brenden our group agrees he's a gem. Gift shop was cute and offered affordable options in order to be able to take a little something with to remember your day. The tour of this small but elegant historical church was really interesting. Lots of details about…read morethe building, which dates back to 1637, and the people who conceived of it and had it built. Great details about its renovation and the original organ that is still in place. Toward the end of the tour, they play a recording of it in action, really amazing considering its age. St. Luke's is a national historic landmark, now surrounded by graves dating back centuries (but there's still room if you want in!) No longer an active church, it is a great setting for learning a bit more about the colonial era and how the local church centered the community (and how the building was designed to be bolder than every other colonial church of its time.) It's located in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, near Smithfield. Unless you are a history fanatic, it's not worth a long trip to get here just for this. But with everything that the surrounding area has to offer in the way of historical buildings, local hams, a few good restaurants, and the hint of salt in the air, this tour is a good way to top off a day trip to the area.

Supposedly this is the only public crossing of the river. I honestly thought this was a drawbridge when I was crossing it but come to find out it is a double swing bridge. Very interesting when you think about it. As the bridge looks unassuming when you approach. It was a toll bridge in the past, twice. Once rebuilt and bonds paid off, the toll was lifted. It is now free to cross and makes for a quick passage into the area and heading out of the area.

This swing bridge is about 3/4 of a mile long and had four lanes making it slightly vexing for lily-livered drivers like me. Have I mentioned I hate crossing bridges? It's claim to fame is that it's the largest double swing-span bridge in the U.S. and is the second largest of its kind in the world! Not bad for a little historic town in Virginia. It was named after George Coleman, head of the Dept. of Highways and Transportation in the early 1900's. There is a bicycle lane crossing if you're courageous enough to brave the traffic! And if you are one of those noble souls, you have my full "support"!

Tokens are purchased for the ride at the souvenir shop. The cost is reasonable for the family. There are at least three stops on the route. The conductor and staff have been great! The disappointing aspect of the train is twofold. The most obvious is that the Virginia Zoo is not that large. So there's really little territory that the train covers. The second is that the train is a miniature not full-size. It's an appropriate size however considering. The train was made possible by a large Norfolk Southern donation. I would recommend jumping on especially if it's your first time. Younger children will enjoy the most. 3.5 rounding down.
