It reminds one of the Mashomack hunt club - if it were transported 100 miles north, plunked into suburbia, and catered to well-off golfing corporate types instead of wingshooting hedge fund billionaires and old money. The building itself is old and gracious, the staff thoughtful and understated, the vibe fairly 1%. Food surprisingly good, decent wine, lovely cake, and a pretty vista. Are those rooms one might sleep in up there on the second deck? How awesome if so -- you could tie one on at the reception, insult the bride's mum, take a punch from her pa, drop trou on stage with the best man and moon the dancing crowd, have a whiz off the patio by the flickering light of a gas fire, pass out face-down in the lap of a panicked flower girl, and be heaved unconscious into a guest bed upstairs by the club manager and the groom's cousin who played high school football. (I did none of those things, more's the pity. But I did get my bottom pinched by the superannuated and superinebriated wife of the family lawyer while in line for coffee - which family, still not sure. Thrill of the evening for boring old me.) Four stars for a very memorable, high-class, good-natured fun time; not five because - well, because it's not Mashomack.

Perhaps the nicest course and best conditions in the Capital Region and the perfect club for those…read morewho want to play golf instead of impressing other people.  When I joined I was very surprised how open all the members were to meeting me and playing with me.  No cliques or dirty looks.  The membership is a better value than other private clubs in the area, has no assessments, and is built on sand so it opens earlier in the year and is playable right after torrential rain.  The course is a favorite of women golfers.  Lots of events of course and leagues.  Great pace of play. The coolest thing is that it is the custom here to walk with a  pushcart, so I get lots of exercise.

Beautifully decorated with great lighting, lounge-style atmosphere. Great Latin music. We sat on the bar side as it was less busy. Beautiful bar with lots of options! Bartender made us **amazing** margaritas... omg were they strong! Loved it! Since we had never been there before, we played it safe. First we went with a fried calamari appetizer - not the best, but not bad - but then it's not typically something you'd order at a Mexican food restaurant. Boyfriend had the street steak tacos as main - hold the cheese as he forgot his lactaid, lol - and I had the steak quesadilla. Delicious! We loved it. The steak was especially well seasoned, not overcooked and sides were yummy. We ended the evening with churros - definitely homemade and on par with the ones we love at El Mirador in NH. Boyfriend even took his life in his hands and had some of the ice cream, couldn't resist - it was that good! Overall, as Boyfriend put it - this is absolutely a hidden gem type of spot - service was spectacular, food was delicious and we would totally return! (**Seated next to us were two young women on an obvious first date - girl #1 showed up, then girl #2 showed up a few minutes later with a big bouquet of flowers... what a nice touch! I let server know I was all set and he acknowledged then continued to make drinks for kitchen staff. I had ordered lemonade but after checking, it looked like they were out, so he offered the juice (without explaining). Food was very tasty. Lunch was $37 before tip, for 3 tacos meal, 3 empanadas app, and the fruit drink.

The Fortress of Gaming is a new all things gaming event center referred to as, "A Country Club For…read moreGamers". It is located in the warehouse district of Railroad Avenue and a bit tricky to find until the signage is updated but it is more than worth the time you spend searching for it. The Fortress of Gaming is owned by the same person that runs Zombie Planet. The ambition of this place is as grand as the size the venue offers with a small storefront for things like paints, play mats, and dice, the majority of the other two large sections of the location are dedicated to running events and offering space to play games. A flat $5 entry fee gets you access to the facility, their large gaming library, on site concessions, and many tables. Currently, they have spaced out tables, a new HIPPA rated HVACC system with plenty of ventilation, and a requirement to prove you are vaccinated to enter. Masks are optional once inside as a result which is a nice upside to the requirement to prove you are vaccinated. I went for my first visit to try out a event called, "Paint and Take" which is where you buy a $25 kit that includes a pre primed miniature, the paints and brushes you need, and a cup for water so that you can essentially sit and paint with others and have a good time. Eventually, there are plans to get a liquor license and to possibly host "paint and sip" instructional events as well. The venue currently runs magic the gathering, digimon, Warhammer 40K events and really, the potential is vast right now for future events from regular board gaming nights to conventions. This is the gamer equivalent of a field of dreams. He built it, the only question now is, will they come? I hope so. This is a great space and I plan to visit often and see everything they have to offer. This is a local small business that is very niche and it is my hope that it is one of the examples of how we have built back better since the pandemic threw a wrench in all our lives. For those who know about Zombie Planet, note that the store is still there and not closing. It is going to be a full retail location now with more product to offer. It is shifting all it's event business to The Fortress of Gaming. This is an exciting new place to visit and I recommend doing so. It is not crowded, it is not noisy, it is clean and they follow current covid best practices. The owner is open to new ideas too. If you happen to have some nifty and feasible ideas for events you'd like to host at the Fortress, try talking to George about it. You may just find yourself with a venue that meets your gaming event needs :)
