An update from my previous review, because this popped up on a brunch search. Hot tip: Indian Ladder no longer has breakfast/brunch. They had a kitchen fire a few years ago, shut down for a year, and completely rebuilt the store/café. It's beautiful, and you can get great baked goods including their famous cider donuts and a variety of coffee/beverages at the counter and sit comfortably in the cafe. They greatly reduced the kitchen space and don't make full meals in house. The cidery/brewery downstairs is still a great place to hang out but you'll only be able to get a few mostly app type food items. The main place to eat is now up the hill where Defazios runs a pizza counter. There's also a beautiful catering space overlooking the Helderbergs where we held a 40th anniversary party. Defazios provides full catering there, from their wonderful main restaurant menu. Indian Ladder provides beverage service, offering theirs and other NYS beer, wine and cider. read more

I used to visit here annually when I lived in NY. I have very fond memories of Indian Ladder Farms as a child and it was a very special treat to sample their warm apple cider and devour a bag of fresh cider donuts. Many years later they have so much more to offer - several varieties of fresh coffee, fresh warm pies, a huge selection of jarred items such as honey, pickles, olives, jams and jellies, a variety of craft beers and ciders made on site, Danishes, cookies, and other pastries for purchase, clothing and other merchandise, a large produce area with some of the most beautiful fruits and veggies available, a separate building dedicated to just apple varieties, and a large event hall at the back end of the property near their brewery. This place is pretty awesome. Something else to note is that when we arrived, they were setting up for Oktoberfest, so if you don't have any plans for Oktoberfest next year this would be an exceptional venue to share in the celebration. I have to say that it is a little pricy, much more expensive than I remember but we are living in different times now. We purchased one of the warm peach pies and it was exquisite. I even had a piece with my breakfast the next morning, I couldn't get enough, but it was about $25. Three donuts and two coffees cost us $17.55, which is a bit overkill but we wanted to enjoy in the moment. We also purchased a jar of peach jelly Togo and that was about $8. This is a great place to take a friend or date in the afternoon or for an event. There are several walking trails available and the property is gorgeous as you have a great view of the Catskill Mountains. There are several places where you can just sit around and chat for a while and they have their own pub and eatery under the main store. Additionally, there are some livestock chilling on the property and a small petting area where the kids can feed goats, chickens and any other creature wandering around. All-in-all, we had a great time while visiting and would definitely come back next time we are in NY. read more

After more than a decade, I was finally able to revisit Indian Ladder Farms on a recent trip to the Capital Region. Everything is so familiar yet so different, possibly because of the lack of crowds and kids during the pre-summer break season. While I visited on a weekday morning, the road to the farm was very easy and smooth. There is plenty of parking in their main lot and additional parking on the opposite gravel lot. The farm is open to the public and offers pick-your-own, goods from the farm store, as well as a cidery and brewery (which narrows down to a tasting room, biergarten, and pizza garden). Since their farm store opens from March thru December, I was able to visit and get a taste of their delicious apple cider donuts as well as canned, sparkling apple cider. Fresh cider was not available at the time I visited in May. Some fresh produce, pies, pastries, and desserts can be found alongside canned jams and jellies in store. Staff were friendly and there are several tables in the farm store to enjoy food and drink on the premises or you can take it all to go. A visit to Indian Ladder Farms is not complete without a few apple cider donuts in hand or heck, a dozen or two. Be sure to check them out during the season for a complete experience. We brought our daughter here as part of our visit for her college family weekend. We lucked into a gorgeous day in the mid 70's in late September. We started with lunch from the food truck. My wife enjoyed the smash burger, my daughter liked her chicken fingers and fries, and I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich on cornbread bun. The seating was nice and shaded. My wife enjoyed a New York rose wine and my daughter and I loved the farm made sparkling apple cider. The orchard itself was gorgeous! We picked up a bag for $37 and filled it to the absolute brim. While the price sounds high, it amounts to less than $2 a pound. Factor in the family time and it's a deal! The staff were all pleasant and professional. I went for Spaghetti Western Night! I had never been to the Cold Mountain room before (and there are no signs in the parking lot to tell you to continue to drive to the back). Watched a movie on the big screen on a couch with a blanket (which was necessary becuase the space is big and hard to heat effectively) and then had DeFazios buffet spaghetti! My husband and I learned we don't like Westerns (or they're not our style), and had a wonderful evening overall. I didn't know DeFazios was doing food at Indian Ladder and its a wonderful addition to their offerings! I hope to see more cool movie nights or other events in this space in the future! read more

We have been customers of Indian Ladder for many years. They have an extensive offering of apple varieties. They also have terrific fruit pies. They also sell a variety of "home made" pastries. Last, but most certainly not least, they have magnificent cider donuts! You can often get them literally hot and they are so good they are easy to get addicted to. Unfortunately, I eat so many of them that when I step on my scale a message shows in the display that says "one at a time!" So, head here for great apples, pies, pastries, and of course- cider donuts! read more

Still come here all of the time but wanted to post pictures of their Christmas trees and holiday set-up. We get our tree here every year and it's even lovelier at the farm this time of year. I went to the easter egg hunt at the farm today with my kids and I could not have been more dissatisfied! It was over priced, $30 for 7 eggs a piece for each child. Not ONE person knew where I was supposed to go or what was even going on. For $30 I could not even pet the baby animals. Just the worst experience I have ever had! read more

Came here with some friends for picklepalooza! It was fun to get out of albany and this is a cute place to do so! The picklepalooza either had a really long wait for the food like the pizza or ran out of food early but we loved the pastries from the farm store and the apple cider donuts and cheese curds were so good! The Pizza Garden at Indian Ladder Farms sounds like a fun place. Unfortunately, there is no shade other than table umbrellas. We were so hot it was uncomfortable and we left as soon as we finished eating. The music is so loud you can hardly have a conversation. Although the pizza was very good it was way too expensive. $18 for a personal size pizza is a bit pricey. The place needs a play area for children near the picnic area. Just be sure to tip the bartender and pizza making staff. They were melting in the heat with no AC or fans. read more

Stopped by after a trip to a local state park. The farm includes a cute mom and pop shop and bakery, a cidery/brewery/restaurant, a pick your own field, and a small petting zoo. We first went to the cidery and tried a flight of local ciders and beers. The sour beer and the cider julep were really good! We also ordered food, including the burger and the pesto chicken sandwich (I had the sandwich and I 100% recommend)! The place itself has a large outdoor seating area and a smaller but equally nice indoor are with a bar, tables, and couches by a fireplace. The staff were very friendly and laid back, and whoever was managing the music was on point . We then went to the petting zoo area where we saw cows, goats, chickens, roosters, bunnies, and more. Bring quarters so you can feed the goats. We ended with a dozen cider donuts to take home, and they were quite tasty, but could use a bit more apple cider to bring out the apple flavor in my opinion (tasted mostly like a fried donut with sugar and less of that NYS apple flavor). Certainly tasty but missing that New York apple essence. All in all, I had an incredible time, and will plan to come back again and again! read more

I thought I had written a review of Indian Ladder Farms a year ago; either it got lost somewhere or I forgot. No matter, because if I had written one, I'd be updating it with a better review this time anyway. The first time I visited, my group only skimmed the surface here, i.e., going into the main tasting room for pours of beer and cider. This time, we made a point of visiting significantly more - more we hadn't even realized was available. That included the market, the children's area, the petting zoo, the second tasting area, the nature trail, and the pizza garden (with a restaurant under construction). I had also heard they host a Renaissance Faire, had wondered where, and now I know. This second visit upped Indian Ladder Farms from "someplace to go for tastings" to "destination." And my cider-loving friends can't wait to come here. read more

Stopped in while atsyong at yhe local atate campground. They have an herb garden and pwtting zoo to walking around and an old-fashioned general store filled with local goodies. Definitely take a walk downstairs to the tasting room. Flights of homemade cider and ice cold wine from a long island vineyward. I went to Indian Ladder for their Pickle Palooza festival. I had never been here before and was shocked at how nice it was! They have a cidery and brewery with many great options, a pizza shack, food truck, and farm animals plus places for kids to play. The views are also amazing! Came this Sunday with my wife and by 1 year old baby girl to Indian Ladder Farms. We went to grab a slice and a cider before walking around to see the animals. While we were there the entertainment they hired verbally harassed me and my wife for bringing my child to the farm and chose to swear towards us and our child while we were walking in and leaving getting the crowd involved. Do not go to Indian ladder with your kids or if you're looking for a family activity. read more

Tis the season of apple picking! There is no better way to welcome fall than by going to Indian Ladder Farms for apple picking, enjoying apple cider (they also make spiked versions!), cider belly donuts , and an on site Biergarten! The wait for the cider belly donuts and to eat at the Biergarten is especially long though. We could not enjoy either because the cider belly donut line was probably 2 hours while the Biergarten wait was 3 hours. Definitely plan ahead if this is your reason for stopping by! Fortunately, the line into their store is not a long wait and we got a delicious apple dumpling, which is basically a turnover. It was incredible and I highly recommend. read more

The ILF website continues to be a helpful resource for knowing what apple varieties (and other produce - berries! pumpkins!) are available for Pick-Your-Own before heading to the farm; they grown over a dozen varieties of apples and availablity varies week to week each fall. Apple picking in the year 2020 was a super fun outdoor experience to tackle with my Trivia Team in the midst of our refusal to trivia indoors together. We were happy to see the staff and other visitors were also taking health and safety seriously - masked up, lots of hand hygeine, and social distancing reminders. We were a bit sad that the Cidery & Brewery was not open for morning to go orders (we arrived as the farm store opened and did not want to stay until lunch time in order to pick-up brews for home); but that just means "visit the Biergarten" remains on our post-COVID to do list! Besides apples, we each did enjoy the purchases we made while onsite: veggies and plants from the farm store, cider and donuts for a pre-picking breakfast, and local cheese from the grocery area. This place has really stepped up their game. I love coming here. I've been coming here for many many years and gone are the days of donut rationing and waiting in long lines for everything. The place was extremely busy but extremely well run. We came to apple pick but we never got to the apple picking. There's so much to do here. We started with a picnic lunch then some of us got in line for the donuts and some of us went to go pet the animals with the kids and ride the horses (only &5!). Then of course we had to eat some of the donuts and pick out a few pumpkins and ride a horse and check out the gift shop and drink apple cider. The day just flew by so we decided to just buy some apples, and they were plenty, and then go sit in the beer garden but we sat on the inside instead of the busy outside. We found a nice barn with a big table and there was hardly anyone inside it was wonderful. Nice day! read more

Indian Ladder Farms is a great way to spend a sunny summer afternoon, and always a great place to get your apples in the Fall. Not to mention the absolute stunning scenery surrounding you. I have been coming here my whole life, my grandparents always used to take me here after we would hike and picnic at Thatcher Park. The little shop is so cute with many local nic-naks, treats, gifts, and of course their bakery! The cider donuts they have are truly nostalgic. Even though there are some places really killing it with Donuts lately, you gotta give props to the originals. Also have to get some Fresh Cider during fall of course too. Speaking of fall, make sure you come here for your bushels of apples! Check the schedule online to make sure what week you want to go depending on the type of apples you want. PYO apples is an Upstate NY Fall must-do. Also, can't forget to mention the farm animals out back of the stores. How fun! We got to go pet some cows and goats and watch them be cute. We LOVE Indian Ladder Farms for so many reasons but for this review, I'll just focus on a recent experience sitting outside for dinner. First off, it's super cool how the restaurant is offering the seating with wood stoves. You reserve ahead of time and pay a small fee (ours was $15 plus tip for the fire attendant.) The fire attendant was super on top of it and did a great job keeping up with all the customers. Food and drinks were good as always. Battered onion rings were by far our favorite. We felt bad for the servers, as they seemed to be stretched pretty thin. We weren't greeted for quite a bit after sitting down. Knocking down one star simply because there wasn't much room to put our food down and it did impact our experience. At the settings for two, a small barrel is provided to put food on but it barely fit our shared appetizer. This caused issues for the servers and it prevented us from sticking around to order anything other than small appetizers. We did ask about getting a bigger table so we could fit our drinks and food down but that wasn't an option. Since this is something new they are offering, I assume the restaurant plans to adapt to improve this. And we will certainly be back when they do! Overall, it was a really nice experience and we especially love the ability to bring our pup! read more

Was glamping nearby and thought to pay a visit. Impressed with the vibe :) Food and pie could be better! The ciders in my naive opinion lacked tang and punch (for lack of better words). But shoutout to their IPA. So tried the golden boy (could have more punch), blueberry (best of the lot), lemongrass (interesting - you definitely get the lemongrass), peach (faint aftertaste), and signature (good not great). They have a great outdoor seating area and a cool indoors as well. Service is impeccable. They have complimentary dog treats and play areas for kids We ordered the cauliflower pizza- HUGE pizza and someone dumped a lot of goats cheese :) almost could not finish it. Wish there were more artichokes and spinach. If you're a group of 6-7 definitely order. The first slice is amazing and then it gets heavy with the incredible amount of goats cheese. Also ordered their smoked wings. Pale ale honey sriracha could be better (tad more sriracha) but the wings were definitely smoked you could tell. Very nice flavor. Wanted their beef brisket but of course they were gone. I'm sure that was out of the world. My only disappointment was that their $17 apple pie was slightly underdone on the bottom. Glad to have a farm with a cafe, brewery, events and fun for all in the area. Coming from the city I didn't think I would enjoy the farm life but I'm totally in love with farms and talking to farmers! This place was packed and busy which wasn't bad but a little bit chaotic and unorganized. There was no clear directions to the cafe or what tables were free to sit. The smoker (I think charcoal) was blowing bits in the air that smelled really bad. Anyways, they are getting 4 stars bc the Best Pumpkin pie I've ever had! Smooth pumpkin mousse like not too sugary or sweet, the crust was crisp and not too sweet either. The hot cider not bad. We actually got some table seats outside since the cafe closed already. The servers at the counter were nice and not bothered by how stressful and crowded it was. Also there are beautiful mountain views. So yes I will return even though your stuff is not organic(but I did read that they try to use less pesticides ) b/c that pumpkin pie was amazing! read more

Stopped for food during Renaissance Fest because the lines and prices in the fair were RIDICULOUS. Lunch was the vegan sandwich with mushroom, arugula and onion jam. I thought the mushroom would be meaty but it was processed like bacon and didn't really add anything to the sandwich. The rest was tasty, we had great service and of course the black and white cookie I purchased on the way out was super yummy. read more

I haven't been here in years, but I'm glad I stopped in while I was back home visiting Albany. Most Capital Region residents come here to pick apples, but we just stopped in to visit the store after a trip to nearby Thacher Park. We came on a weekday and this place was busy! The restaurant was packed too. The shop is a good size and has Vermont country store vibes to it. This would be such a great place to take people visiting from out of state since it's so charming. The items here were pricey, but it was fun to browse. We spotted locally made jams, soaps, dish towels, tea, lotions, signs for home, candles, maple syrups, cheeses, cider and even jewelry. They do have a bakery with lots of yummy looking items. The cider donuts were good, but I liked the ones I had at another local orchard better. Nice assortment of pre-picked apples available and we grabbed some of those to make apple sauce with. I would have LOVED to go to their cider & brewery, but it wasn't open until 4 PM on the weekdays. read more
