North 40, which we dined at based on our hotel front staff lady's recommendation, turned out to be a pleasant, reasonably decent and unassuming destination. All their parking lots were full so we expected the worst when we pulled up, but it turned out not to be very full so must have been parking poachers. Service was not super fast but OK. We had the salmon atop mashed potatoes, a Caesar salad, the poblano soup, and the chicken fried steak (don't get this). Cocktails good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]An agreeable place to have dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

When in Nebraska, enjoy some of the best steak in the country! Touring cross country through the sand hills, I had my heart set on an amazing steak. And we found it at North 40 Chophouse! What a gorgeous restaurant. Jasmine was our waitress and provided us with everything we could possibly need along with a few extras. From the handcrafted drinks, the bread, the filet, and all the way to the sweet ending - banana pudding. Jim, the manager gave us a tour of the facilities and the wine cellar. Don't miss a photo op with the bull or give him a rub on the head on your way out. We will definitely be back !

Passing through on a road trip. We decided a steak was due. Dry aging locker out front looks great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant itself is nicely decorated but not over the top and unwelcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff was very knowledgeable and being a first visit educated us on the facility well. Plenty of choices, not just steaks. Lots of cuts to choose from wet and dry aged. I got a dry aged delmonico, aged well not overly funky and trimmed very well (no hard pellicle left behind). A friend of mine owns a steakhouse back home so I can be picky as he runs a tight ship. North 40 seems to be doing everything right. If you want dry aged beef or have a craving for a legit steak here it is.

Incredible dinning experience with a creative menu and great service. North 40 would fit right in across the country anywhere you'd expect to find fine dining. If you live in Omaha or Denver it's worth the drive!

We were driving across country and decided to pull over in North Platte for the evening. I looked…read morefor a restaurant recommendation and found The Cedar Room. We walked in and there are two large rooms, one dining and one bar/dining area. There is a small bar at the far end that sits around 6 or seven people. We were sat near the window and our server was Penny who was excellent. Penny constantly checked in with us and we were never left wait for service. When it came to ordering wine/cocktails, we were immediately put off by the price of wine. The bottles have an approximate 75% mark up on retail. Way overpriced. You don't see these prices even in the most expensive of steakhouses in my opinion. A glass of wine was the price of a bottle at retail. We elected to go with cocktails. For appetizers, we ordered the Wild Mushroom Brie & Ciabatta. $19 Seared Brie Cheese, brandy glazed belle mushrooms, balsamic reduction, fig chutney; served with Ciabatta toast points. This was good. Cowboy Calamari. $19 Breaded Flat iron sirloin steak bites, fried; served with gravy. I was so looking forward to these but I couldn't even taste the meat.....at all! They were so overly breaded and the steak cut so thin that we felt we were just eating the breading. The gravy was tasty but we couldn't finish the steak bites as we just didn't taste any steak. We split a Cedar Room Wedge. $16 Iceberg, bacon bits, tomatoes, cucumbers, blue cheese crumbles; served with dressing of choice. They split it on two plates and basically did a deconstructed salad. It was fine. After not having a great experience with the food and prices of their wine, we elected to leave and skip the dinner. Although we loved our server Penny and it was a cute establishment, we probably would not return.

It was late, I…read morewas exhausted and hungry, and it was the only place open and it shared a parking lot with my hotel. I ordered a steak and I cannot state this emphatically enough, this was BY FAR THE WORST STEAK I had ever had in my life, by a mile. It was like trying to cut through a deflated football, but somehow, still raw in the middle. Not undercooked, raw. Anyway, I ate my sides and moved everything around the plate and when my server came back to drop the check, she told me that "she liked my style". So FIVE STARS!

Listen I love Applebees just as much as any other warm blooded American but, this one was a flop…read more I like to try a new place every time I come to north platte since there is so many. So when my girlfriend said Applebees I thought wow I get some nostalgia from Father's Day with my dad as a kid. Let's just say the service is not what it used to be. The parking lot only had a few cars I figured get in eat get out. Apparently our hostess had a different idea. We walked in to a full waiting area and 3 families at tables. In the entire restaurant. 5 minutes goes by of this hostess fumbling her words walking around doing nothing. The family ahead of us gets seated. 5 people. They all got drinks from a waitress while we stood there. At this point there is me, my girlfriend and her 1 year old son with us, and an elderly lady by herself. We are looking at people eating in an empty restaurant and waiting for no reason. Finally she comes back after around 10 more minutes. With a bundle of napkins. Proceeds to open the package, and put them all in her work station. While telling us about it. I for one do not fucking care. I'm looking at an empty restaurant and standing here holding a kid. When she was done she says " I'll be right back I need to go clean these tables" I then asked her what was wrong with all the clean empty tables. Fumbles with her words I shook my head she walked away. I'm not sure what she did for another 5 minutes but I'm sure she didn't clean a table. They were all tipped up. Now we finally get to go sit. She asks if we want a high chair for the little kid. Yes thanks. Never brings it. Moving on I guess whatever Our waitress was very nice. The food was very mediocre at best not a shining moment. I'm not sure who makes the drinks in this place but they need a lesson. Worst margaritas I've ever had. North platte Applebees sucks don't go here

When I…read morechecked-in at my hotel I asked if there was any place I could get a steak at that hour (I mean, when in Rome?) She was doubtful because of the hour, but checked and Nebraska Rib & Chop House was still open, so I headed right over to get a steak to take out. When I got there the host/hostess was nowhere to be seen, so eventually the bartender came over to take care of me. I knew I wanted a NY strip, but my brain was too tired to make decisions about soup or salad and what kind of side I wanted, so the bartender talked me through it - they had a bison chili as one of their soups that was really good, the scalloped potatoes are one of the most popular sides but the garlic mushrooms with the steak just chef's kiss. So I went with the chili and the mushrooms, steak medium rare. The bartender offered me a glass of water while I waited and I was happy to sit at the bar grooving to the 80's tunes they had playing. My order came up quickly and I was on my way in about 15 minutes. I have to admit that I didn't really think through eating a take out steak with plasticware, but for the most part it was tender enough to work. The steak was closer to rare than medium rare but still delicious, and my pups got a few of the rarer pieces. I would have enjoyed the mushrooms with my steak more if they were sliced, but it still worked. The bison chili was indeed delicious. I'd come here again the next time I'm passing through.

Great staff. The steaks were flavorful and done just right. The garlic mushrooms as a side, perfect.read more
