Yeah, so if your specialist tells you that they will order you a cpap machine and tells you North Atlantic Medical (NAM) will be helping you, just say no, and choose Sleepmed instead. I have only started my intake form with Sleepmed and already am impressed. We live in new england, it is often cold where we are, have you had rainouts? Thats where your cpap tube condenses the humid air from the humidifier, because the outside air is cold, and it causes "rain" to be sprayed in your face while you are sleeping. When I called sleepmed for my initial intake, they offered a heated tube without me even asking for it, and offered me a new tank for my humidifier. NAM, get with it, we want heated tubes. Now if you do get stuck with NAM, and you need a new tank for your humidifier, don't expect to get one easily. While your insurance will allow for a new tank a year, NAM won't offer one, instead you will get an impersonal robot call with a machine offering you a new tube, filter, and mask. If you want something else, good luck, there is no button you can push to get to a real person, the only way you can talk to someone say to get a mask fitting is to claim that your insurance has changed. When you threaten NAM with an inability to make money off you, they are quick to call. Now say they offered a new mask in the mail, said they had this fabric mask without hard plastic, awesome i thought, so i "changed my insurance" to ensure a call from them. They offered to give me a fitting allow me to try on different masks, and that they will call me. I say I work from 9:30-6 and being in a call center i cannot answer calls not related to registering hospital patients. For two weeks straight I watched my phone vibrate across my desk Monday through Friday, with out of state numbers, every couple hours... HELLO PEOPLE... What did i say. So I complained and asked NAM whether i owned my machine at this point and if i was free to leave NAM. No response on the machine ownership. The calls stopped, but that still meant' that I didn't have a mask, and would wind up using my same old, likely moldy mask, for a full 6 months total. I got fed up and asked again about machine ownership, still no response. So I called Sleepmed, who was happy to call me per my schedule. In short, these people are money hungry. You know those little fiber filters that your cpap uses, do you know how much those cost my insurance, like $40 for a little piece of what amounts to the soft fuzzy side of Velcro. You are making a killing, you should hire people who actually care. The one time i went to their office in sharon or stoughton, or wherever it was, it was a crappy dark rented space, on Saturday with limited hours for the real working world, and would only see me until noon, and they would have back to back patients scheduled so tightly that you only had 7 minutes to be fit, and choose a mask. Do yourself a favor and Call Sleepmed: 877-934-7447 Don't even consider working with these bozos and get real service. Way back in 2005 when i first was introduced to NAM, I got a machine, had it for over a year, lost my insurance, and was sued for the machine. I was under the impression that I had owned the machine at that point. No matter, found a big box, stuck it in, with no padding, and mailed it off, with no insurance, nothing but delivery confirmation. I hope it broke. Really what do you do with used cpap machines full of bacteria, give it to masshealth people? Really now. Technically NAM you were on a short leash with me, should have dumped you in 2010 as soon as my Dr ordered my services through you. I finally wised up, you will not be serving me in 2013.... North Atlantic Medical needs to be a better job at hiring their on-call technicians. I spoke to their on-call technician 'Keith' about the questions I had on using the CPAP machine. Keith was extremely rude, insulting and basically told me I should not have bothered him by calling them at 5 AM in the morning. My call was routed to him from their customer care department and it is a 24/7 support system. Our conversation began as below: Keith: Hi this is Keith. Me: Hi Keith, How are you doing? Keith: Whats up? You know it is 5AM in the morning! And after he went on educating me on when not to bother him and I should have called 911 or my PCP instead. Persons like Keith are a shame and disgrace to any organization and they should certainly not be associated with a medical services inc. Insulting a customer and being extremely rude should not be tolerated. I hope the management has an insight into customers feedback and will take appropriate measures to avoid such shameful events in the future. read more

I completely agree with all the earlier complaints, so I won't bother to enumerate the difficulties that we have had with this company. They do not seem to have improved over time at all. Previously, our insurance only covered this company (and the doctor/hospital had a business relationship with the company, so...you get the picture) The only reason that we are still with them is convenience of location. We will probably try other companies now that we have changed insurance plans and are allowed more freedom of choice. read more

I have had nothing but good service from NAM. I call for an appointment and it is set up at the Stoughton location, which is the closest one for me. Do I care if it is in an industrial strip mall. No. The therapist took her time fitting the 2 masks I inquired about and I decided to try one that was new to the market. She told me if I do not like it, return it and they would replace it with another one more to my liking. They have done this before. She had me try it with my BiPAP first. She also checked my BiPAP to make sure everything was functioning properly. I have nothing but good things to say about NAM. I have been with them for many years now and have no reason to switch to another company. As far as the heated tube someone was complaining about. He said it was because the "outside air is cold". Well, I don't know about him but, I use my BiPAP indoors. I live in Boston and I keep my home at 68 degrees. I do not consider that cold outside air. The only time I got condensation in the tube is when I had the humidifier set too high. I used to keep it all the way up to 5 so my throat would not dry out but that would make the condensation build up in the tube. I found a setting of 3.5 was just right in the winter and 3.0 was just right in the summer. No more condensation. I also know what they can supply me with and when. My wife is a Nurse Case Manager in a large Boston hospital and deals with insurance companies all the time. It is not what I want but, what my insurance will let me have. NAM has no control over that. I will admit that some people do not explain things in the right manner when talking with customers but, that is a problem with any service company. When you get a person on the phone like that, just ask for the supervisor. Don't get yourself all upset speaking with that one individual. Speak with the supervisor and tell they why you asked to speak with them as well as the reason for the initial call. read more

For more time than I should have, I did business with these folks. I just arranged to switch to a new provider; I'll leave out their name so this doesn't look like a fake posting. In my interactions with North Atlantic Medical, their error rate was easily north of 60%. Do business with these folks if you want to spend 45 minutes a month correcting the errors of customer service people who don't give a damn about accuracy, your time, or your money. read more

If only you were able to give negative stars. Every aspect of doing business with north atlantic is terrible. Avoid them at all costs. The robot calls are ridiculous, unless you want to order the exact same thing again, and if so it should not take five minutes and fifty questions to do so. When something changes, good luck to you, don't bother leaving a message, its a waste of your breath because no one reacts to it. or worse, they bill your insurance company and never deliver the product to you. I have had the displeasure of being stuck with them through my PCP for 8 years and at least once a year they pull the we shipped it to you not sure why you didnt receive it. I've been using NAM for 9 years because they are the ones my sleep doctor assigned to me for supplies. When I tried to change a couple years ago, my doctor's office told me that my insurance requires me to use them, so I'm stuck. At first, they seemed good, came out to the house for initial fitting, etc. But when my doctor recently recommended a new mask, NAM asked me to go to their office (that's fine) and try on masks. When I got there, they basically asked me which mask I wanted (there are hundreds). I said, I don't know, my doctor mentioned "such-and-such" but it doesn't have to be that one. They brought out that one alone, I tried it on and the woman just stood there like "well, what do you want to do?" So I ordered that mask. No discussion about types nor bringing out samples of different ones. I could have saved myself a trip and just had them send me the one the doctor mentioned. At that visit, I also mentioned that currently my hose keeps slipping out of the mask and that they're both pretty new. The woman just said, "it must be loose or something." Well, thank you for that helpful tip. I'd change to another company if I could. read more

Horrible service, misunderstandings, incorrect fittin. When the manufacturer had to send a replacement because of malfunction, North Atlantic billed my insurance again. They also gave me a unit that had been removed from the box and no longer had carrying case, tubing, and chamber. Very shady operation. read more

They send products that I haven't ordered. They bill my insurance company without my authorization and then give me a hard time returning the items. I don't even use them as a vendor and have told them that. I use SleepMed, Inc. and they are great. read more

I have been using NAM for about 1.5 years. I also was not given a choice by my neurologist but I believe I can change if I want to (and I do!). They have been OK so far but I recently went to their Bedford office to get a new mask fitting (was not happy with my current one) and to change out the CPAP machine. Too loud randomly - gets loud and then quiet again - weird! So I get there and Doreen was my therapist. She did not have either order (mask fitting and CPAP change) just an evaluation of my current machine. I told her I did not want to keep it and would like to change to a new one. She said "which do you want?" I said "What do you recommend?' She said we have the F&P ICON and the Resmed that you have now. I said "That's all you have?" She said yes. So having used the ICON before and finding it to be a bit louder but more consistent I said I would go with that. While she went to get one, I noticed a Philips Resperonics on the shelf so when she go back I asked about it. She said she didn't offer it because it was too loud. (I didn't ask her that I had asked what they stocked - lied to me). So I said "Hey I have tried the other two maybe I should try that one - what do you think?. She just stared at me. I said "You don't care at all do you". She said no. I took the Philips. Then when I asked about the mask fitting, she just put one on me which she claimed worked well for me and then was it. Her goal was to get me out of her office as fast as possible. She never tested the CPAP machine (the humidifier doesn't work) nor did she show me how to use it - I read the manual and figured it out. I will be switching to another company if possible for sure. read more

I have not had the very bad experiences written about by everyone else. Certainly they have never been rude or neglectful. They have been professional and helpful on the phone, and the respiratory therapists they have sent to my home have been reasonably skilled and competent. A couple of times the respiratory therapists have been inexperienced and a little too ready to say, "No you MUST adjust your mask this way," or "Your mask should be fine, what's the problem?" but with a little pushing, I have had success with nearly everyone. Even when I lived in a homeless shelter (is that TMI?) they came, dealt with me professionally, did not make any embarrassing comments. Once they dropped the ball on an appointment, but I'm kind of reaching for things to describe that are negative. I've only had this company; I haven't had service from the competitor that people are discussing, so maybe I don't know how good it is. And I have a fairly uncomplicated case of OSA that only requires CPAP, not any fancy BiPAP equipment. But I really can't complain. read more

I bought CPAP machine from them in 2000 - no problems since: tech help me set it up in minutes. Since then, only supplies over the phone, but never a problem. Surprised to read bad reviews. Did internet search (got here) only to find their info because I'm going in for sleep study and told them I'm due for a new machine...my hospital (major Boston hospital) looking for a provider better than one they now use and I thought I'd recommend them. read more

We got a CPAP machine from them years ago and we don't really have any complaints. The technician came to our house in a timely manner and was very helpful. We order supplies from them via telephone and they arrive shortly. Only complaint is an automated machine will call you many times to remind you to reorder supplies. i agree with the rest of the reviews..terrible service, terrible support. and after my insurance paid them several hundred dollars i had a co-pay of 20 dollars to wish i was unaware. My first notice came in the mail and was attached to a small claims trial court statement of which they said they attempted to contact me several times which was not true. so over 20 dollars i was almost taken to court after making there company over 700 dollars.. If you have a choice to use them or someone else please use someone else would hate to see other people have to go through this. read more

I have been waiting for a call to set up my BiPap machine since APRIL of 2013- that means for 176 DAYS- and still no appointment. I haven't done real business with this medical supply business YET-but I sure have dialed their "1-800" number enough times to have memorized it...it's not for lack of trying on MY part....their promises of calling you are NOT TRUE....don't wait for them to call you- find another supply company that can actually supply you with equipment and answer the phone when you call. North Atlantic Medical Is the worst company in the world! Without a doubt the most incompetent, rude and ignorant people work there. It should go out of business. I had several problems with them in the past, from overbilling and malfunctioning equipment to rude staff. Today I am switching to another company and never going back to NAM. Last week I called NAM and requested my compliance records only to find out that they have no records of me, even though I have been and customer since 2009 and sent them numerous CPAP memory cards with my compliance information. They told me that it was not a big deal, that the records were stored in the machine itself and that they would send me another memory card ASAP, which I would need to send back to them and they would fax the information to my physician. My call to them was placed on Wednesday. I was assured that I would receive the card in the mail by Saturday. Today is Tuesday and I still have no card. I called them today to inquire about my request, only to find out that there is no record of my phone call last week and that, as the girl on the phone put it, they could only "assume that the card was never mailed". She suggested that I stopped by her office and brought my machine so the information could be downloaded. And then she just casually stated that their office was open until 5PM. Oh, what a coincidence, I work until 5PM as well. So now, I have to leave work early, drive to another town, get the information that was promised to me last week, and hand deliver it to my doctor just because NAM dropped the ball yet again. I have a doctor's visit scheduled and a surgery pending all based solely on this compliance information. How is it possible that they put patient's wellbeing on the line time and time again by being so irresponsible and inept and still stay in business? No more, I say.
