Excellent customer service! I'm so appreciative of Norman and Solomon. Norman was so knowledgeable when I spoke with him on the phone it gave me the confidence to come into the location. I wasn't sure if they could help with my my unemployment questions. Norman helped me get setup with the Calworks website. Solomon was also helpful with getting me through to unemployment to start my claim process. I was receiving errors online. I'm so appreciative to the staff and this office location. Good news! They have computers, phones, and fax machines! That's about it. Here's a fun little story that could happen to YOU: The Doctor you worked for decided to retire after 40+ years. (I know selfish right? {sarcasm} Geez.) Therefore, you are temporarily on unemployment. You were randomly chosen to attend a career assessment class. You did not receive important paperwork in the mail that needs to be filled out ahead of time and have a job interview later that day so you explained this to numerous people and wanted to reschedule. They will not reschedule, threaten you with loss of benefits proceed to belittle you and advise you to "come up with something" because "you only need to write down one job per week." You asked 3 different people. (because you're confused at the lack of honesty and you REALLY want to be sure they are telling you to LIE) Two at the front desk then waited for Dave. (who turned out to be the rudest of the group) "So are you telling me to make something up instead of coming back with the correct information?" They all said yes. (along with a couple of snarky rude remarks from meanie pants Dave) This will be followed up by a lovely woman named Ariel, who will tell you how important their program is, how you should be honest about where you've applied so they can asses your job hunting skills so they can be truly helpful. (HaHaHa!) She will continue to talk about how helpful they are... then she will be too busy to go over your concerns. (This will make you laugh and scoff a bit, at which time she'll attempt to call you out in front of the group and waste everybody's time over your personal situation. But you won't take the bait.) The rest of the staff will be very friendly, but will not reschedule you. They will, however guide (rush) you through the process (so you can "get it over with" ~ Dave) Which you did. You put down that you applied for McDonald's, some other random job online, and uploaded an outdated crappy resume from 2008. They know all of this. You told them none of it was accurate. They didn't care. You leave feeling frustrated. You like to do things the right way. You would've filled everything out and would've liked an honest assessment. Instead, you feel discouraged, and that a whole lot of time and money is wasted there. This could happen to you. I hope it doesn't. Luckily for me, I am self-motivated, I have a beautiful resume, interviews, and job offers. Because if I needed guidance and motivation... I do not feel I would have gotten it from the North County Coastal Career Center. I will not recommend this place to anybody that is even the slightest bit need of a push... because this place will definitely push you in the wrong direction. read more

I went to the Oceanside Career Center for assistance and was more than pleased with the whole experience! Marcella and Gloria were very helpful during what was a very stressful time for me. Terrible experience, terrible customer service poorly managed and staffed. ***summary ( its a long read) - Their phone number is unattended in their mailbox is full you can't get hold of anyone - Their career counselors that are supposed to assist you with finding classes and training do not return phone calls and have no availability - The centers director refuses to meet with you to find a solution or even discuss a problem Matt Roman -The receptionist is extremely rude and confrontational Vivian yamos I attended the unemployment orientation (as required by EDD) the class instructor was nice and helpful and suggested signing up for a training class and talk to a career counselor After class and they should be able to help me immediately so after the class I requested to speak counselor they said leave your phone number they will contact you today so I did no phone call no contact us for five days and went back into the career center because there's no way to contact him via phone their mailbox is full don't even try. I submitted another slip to the career counselor asking for them to contact me once again no contact. So yet again today I entered into the career center when I went the last time they informed me that the counselors will be out all week but not Monday so I went in Monday once again at the front desk was informed there are no career counselors available, When I questioned why I was informed they would be in on Monday she said the supervisor said that they should not be available today note they are in office. So I asked to speak to supervisor she called him in front of me and and he said that he would not meet with me. When I asked when he would be available to meet with me the receptionist said she was not going to call him back and ask him, that he was in a meeting. So I offered to wait until his meeting is over to find out when he would be available she said she would not call him again for me. When I asked to his supervisor was she said he doesn't have one. His name is Matt Roman her name is Vivian Yamos (receptionist) When I try to inform her that my situation is a little more urgent since the class I'm trying to get into starts in nine days she Said she didn't care and that if I leave my number he may get back to me. When I first moved back to my parents' place after grad school, I went to the North County Career Center in Oceanside and attended one of their info sessions. The facilities are really nice and the person who was talking was really peppy and provided a motivational speech about finding work. I got some good info sheets but that's really about it... These facilities are really about helping yourself. If you want to work with a temp agency that will give you work assignments, this is not the place to go to. Rather, you come here if you don't have a computer or a printer or if you need tips on how to expand your job search. Since I have my own computer and I can easily print my stuff at my local library, I didn't find this place to be that resourceful. A lot of their tips on job hunting were things I already learned at my university's career center, and while the workshops were informative and motivating, by the end of the day I was still back where I started...unemployed and looking. It took me 9 months to get a job and I was able to get employed through a temp agency, not through these guys. I will say that one nice thing that this place does is offer scholarships/financial assistance to people who would like to take professional development/job training courses through places like SDSU and UCSD. Unfortunately while most of the workforce students do an amazing job and complete their courses on time, there are some bad apples who fail to complete the programs and end up wasting everyone's time and the career center's money. This place is still a nice resource to have, especially if you don't know how to start your job search, but don't come here expecting to get a job after visiting them. Most of the advice they give is common sense and you can easily do the research on your own. It's not like they have a special database with a list of jobs; all of it is public information. If you have your own computer (with internet) and printer at home, you can easily pass this place. read more

Terrible management and the front desk is freaky!. They have a ton of potential but the front desk people are sooo rude! If you are a minute or two late they will not let you in to the lectures. They make you wait in the parking lot until 3 minutes to the beginning time and everyone crowds around and kind of stampedes the door. I think they need to take some of their own classes in customer service! read more

Won't stop calling me after I left their services. Horrible programs as well. Their analyses tracks you no matter what into their home care programs even though you have physics and mathematics and faculty background. Every few months or so, I get a call from them wanting to "close out" my file. When I did that already almost 1 yr and a half ago. They do not communicate with each other and they lost my paperwork. Next time I am going to file a complaint with the CA Attorney General's office if they call me again. read more

Resist the urge to turn on Regis & Kelly & just wait for Oprah to come on in the afternoon and get yourself over to the Career Center. If nothing else it will give you a reason to shower & get dressed before noon. Unemployment happens & if it happens to you ( like it did to me) the Career Center has a resource referrence room staffed with counselors to help you get out& map out your job search. I came here during my search for financial assistance for job training, and my experiences were great. It was quite a process to get assigned a case manager, but it's understandable - it has to be that way to weed out the people who aren't 100% into what they are seeking grants for! The required classes (basic job search stuff) were actually pretty interesting, and I learned a few new tricks I can use when I'm searching for jobs (like where to research occupational markets, and a few job listing sites that I had never heard of). I can only imagine how helpful these classes and the computer lab would be for someone who hasn't been in the job market for years! Once I got assigned a case manager, Rafael, he was very attentive and on top of everything that I needed to turn in and when. My only complaint is that there really was a lot of paperwork, some of which I thought was useless, but like I said, it all makes sense considering that they're giving you money! I didn't end up going through with the program due to a new job so I can't really review how that goes, but hopefully it would have been as smooth of a process to get the training funds as it was to qualify for them. And note that it's a SMOOTH process, not necessarily an easy one though ;) Gotta work for it for sure! Overall a great resource that I would use again if necessary. Highly recommended for people who are looking for a new position, information on a new line of work, a resume tweak, some interview and job fair tips, or potentially even some grants. Everyone was friendly and helpful who I interacted with here, except for those few that you could tell were just having a rough day...but every office has those, especially when they're dealing with people all day! And if you come in, come EARLY! There are hardly any spots and they fill up fast when there are classes!! read more

This is my second time here and everyone here is very helpful and so friendly. Being on the recent unemployment train, there are some workshops that you have to go through for all of your stuff through the state. When I came on my first visit it was a simple workshop on the basics but I also had a job interview this day. The staff here was super helpful and quickly expedited my paperwork so that I could make my interview appointment time in San Diego. Nancy was the one in the back who helped me with my paperwork and brought me up to speed with a lot of the things that I needed to know. She was very helpful and so great. Very nurturing. She and I discussed a lot of the employment field that I was looking at and wanting to get into. She was very caring when I also had mentioned that I had recently gotten in a car accident and really made me feel taken car of. The staff here is super amazing and friendly. They got all the resources that you can use in their resource center if you don't have the equipment and stuff at home. read more

I was a little concerned by reading the other reviews on here, however Coastal career center has exceeded our expectations! They have tons of informative classes to educate you with tips on how to brush up your resume or interview. My husband went to 4-5 classes and I saw his confidence soar. Since he's a veteran they assigned him a coach who helped him with specific job hunt questions, and even forwarded him job leads he found that seemed like a good fit. My husband ended up getting a job from one of these leads, so we are very thankful for the career center and his coach Tony! read more

I was so upset when I found out that I'd have to go all the way out to San Marcos to access Department of Rehab services. Fortunately though, when I called to make my appointment, they told me that they actually have a satellite center in Oceanside, right off of Rancho Del Oro and Oceanside Blvd. It's known by a lot of names - likely because they offer so many different services there - everything from unemployment to veteran's services - so it's no wonder I didn't realize it was one of the sites DOR uses for its clients on the West side of North County. Not everyone can make it all the way to San Marcos regularly! Anyway, the Oceanside Career Center has everything from job listings to free materials that help with job searches. There's always something going on there, and they help a lot of people. It's a great resource to have here on this side of the county. I have one of the best DOR workers in the universe. Her name is Barbara, and she comes out a couple of days a month to work with her caseload out here. She is deaf, and works with her support worker/partner, Donna...together the two of them have put me completely at ease about the process, and I don't feel like they're going to make me quit college and go into some vocational program. That's a myth about DOR. They actually WILL help you with school related items you can't get paid for otherwise, as well as comprehensive vocational skills testing to make sure you're on the right track. For someone who is disabled and wants to work in an actual career that pays well and will lead me to better things in life for my family, I don't think vocational training is appropriate for me when I'm making progress in school! I have been supported in this decision by Barbara (she communicates with me through Donna often, which shows me that the DOR puts its money where it's mouth is, and they hire disabled individuals themselves to work as counselors and case workers.) I have really taken a liking to the both of them, and they function well as a team. They are looking to see me get similar supports in whatever setting I am in much like my caseworker has the supports she needs in order to do her job (which she does very well) and be successful in her career. After you set up an intake, which you can do at any office, you'll be assigned a worker. It's important to do the things they tell you to do and to keep in touch with them. They've got a lot of clients, and don't have time to chase people down to offer them services. Set an alarm in your phone to touch base with your worker once every couple of weeks or so. I am actually excited to show Barbara and Donna my first semester grade...I just started MiraCosta College after being out of college for two decades! I've got a lot of credits already, and I know I'll be successful, but they need to see that you're making adequate progress in the vocational pursuit you're on at the time, or else they will drop your case. If you're not making progress, they need to switch gears and find something better suited for you. Once you graduate or have your certificate though, DOR helps you get employment through one of their internship vendors, and then, once you've been successfully employed for 90 days, you're ready to leave the nest. They don't kick you out and they make sure you're ready to embark on your vocational/career path, but they can't justify keeping services going once you've shown them that you're succeeding and doing well! I'm grateful for programs like the DOR, and even more grateful for this satellite office so close to home for me! I couldn't do that drive out to San Marcos on top of school and doctors and specialists for my healthcare. This is the perfect location, and I've got the perfect worker! If you contact the career center, they can hook you up with the info for the DOR. It's super painless, and if you get a good caseworker match, you'll be setting yourself up for success! The programs are out there so we can better ourselves - so it's important that we use them as they're intended to be used! read more

I am extremely pleased to let everyone know that I had a wonderful experience with Francisco, a representative of the EDD Career Center in Oceanside! Francisco was extremely professional, knowledgeable and able to assist me with all my general processing needs, and he gave me all the time I needed. This is not an unemployment office, however Francisco was able to effectively answer my questions pertaining to the Unemployment Insurance application. This office cannot provide information as to when you will get paid, but Francisco was great with processing questions. Have tried three times, in person, to make an appointment with a case manager. First time, "oh it's Friday, everybody leaves early so come back Monday". Second time guy at computer desk couldn't find my paperwork...he will give it to somebody when he finds it and a case manager will call me in for an appointment. Third time I checked in about not having received a call...same guy who couldn't find my paperwork said there was no record of my request to see a case manager. Again...couldn't find my file. Today I called to make an appointment and the very UNfriendly and UNhelpful woman at the desk informed me, no that isn't possible. Three times...no that is not possible! What is the point of going here? Outdated information, poor quality employees, lack of scheduled workshops. This place bites. read more

If you're o.k. with learning from a book try "Knock 'Em Dead" by Martin Yate from the public library. Study the book and It will arm you with the skills to have a successful job search. (The latest version is not necessary, just be sure that it's a version dated after the Great Recession of 2008.) Then, if you combine the skills from the book plus PC skills, you improve the likelihood of being victorious in the job market. read more

Very rude front desk people.. The lady who answers the phone acts so put out by helping you. She acts like it is the last thing she wants to do and is totally exasperated by anything you ask. If you are 30 seconds late you cant attend orientation And they take 30 mins just to check you in to orientation when everyone is fully prepared and had to wait outside. Options from career fairs, free marketing, and employers panels give us an edge! If you are an applicant looking for work, network with them!! My success rate for employees from the career center are soooo much better than what I get from Craigslist. People show up for their interviews, they are prepared and have their resumes ready. So refreshing from the no shows, unprepared people that find my ad on Craigslist. Work through them and guaranty a better placement! read more

I am not quite sure what the negative reviews are about because this place absolutely rocks! If you put in the time and effort to actually jump through the "governmental" hoops then you will definitely find this center very useful. If you are there for free college only and don't want to do the required seminars in order to expedite the process then I guess I would understand the negative scores. BUT, anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I completely understand the frustration, I truly do and not saying the negative reviews aren't doing their share but it is the GOVERNMENT that we are having to interact with for training so take that for what it is; a tough agency to get things done and they generally take their time unless of course you owe them money for taxes. I have been going there now for 3-4 weeks and have yet to get my case manager but I am hopeful that will happen in the next week or so. It cannot be worse than being out of a job. I like the reviewer with the positive response that said it gives you reason to get up and away from couch. Think of it that way as after so long we might start to feel a little down about jobs turning us down; just knowing I'm not the only one is a blessing and especially having somewhere quiet to go to get help with resume and job search. I sincerely wish you, the negative reviewers and positive ones, luck with your search as this is a very difficult time in all our lives to be unemployed. Try to stay positive and use the center for your good, no matter what the front desk people are like. I personally don't have a lot of interaction except to sign in and they do seem a bit as if they are there to only do their job but think about it; how would you feel working around people that are upset, angry, depressed, etc. I'm sure they just try to stay quiet and allow us to do our thing without distractions of chatty employed people. They have to have some sense of compassion for all of us. Additionally, I like the rule of gathering before the seminars then going in all at once; I get the same chance to choose my seat at the same time as others so I'm not punished for being exactly on time. And yes, I agree with the rule of not allowing late-comers in; it's very distracting and I am there with a goal in mind....to get a job, not be distracted by anything. I have my friends and family so I try to use this place for exactly what it is; a very valuable tool and resource. I was at one seminar and a guy was late by about 4-5 minutes and he completely disrupted the entire class and instructor had to start all over using my valuable job search time for someone who can't be on time. Later in the class he even started chatting with a neighbor and was asked to stay quiet. This is why I want to be able to select my seat when everyone else does; so I can find a quiet seat close enough to hear and see what's going on. Please understand this is not to discount anyone else's concerns; I am only voicing my own opinion of my personal experiences. I wish you all the success and prosperity so none of us have to go through this again. I was laid off with 120 others so this is not my idea of a good time either.
