They did a surgery on my dog Rose. They gave her a nose job and it is beautiful. I am so jealous even though I don't need a nose job lol. I give the doctors here a five-star rating, especially Dr. Breland and Dr Swift who did Rose's surgery? She looks amazing and she can breathe so much better and she's so happy she talks now makes little whiny noises and little barky squeaky noises. That are so cute. They won't answer their phone...after driving 20 miles to make an appointment in person,with the vet I've used for 25 years! Every dog we have had we have used North Davidson Vet. All have died at the vet. We have been charged for items that were used to kill our dog. We do not recommend this vet to anyone. No compassion for our animals. Prices have doubled since last year and then those prices were extremly high. This place is a money hungry business. If you LOVE your pets take them somewhere else. If you notice reviews they are old and that is when Dr. Shmuck was the vet. He was a good compassonate person. I have been coming to this Vet since he started in a building size of large living room. I drive a Hour why prices and I get to talk with the vet. He explains everything up front. He really cares about animal. I even had a rabbit fixed there she done just fine. if I could give Dr Schmunk 50 stars I would! Yes during Covid things was crazy! Customer Service is the worst I've experienced. I've been a customer for over 10 years and it's such a shame the staff they now have running the practice. They have 8 lines coming in, and I assume one person that answers the phone. I tried calling over 12 times over a week and half to get someone to answer the phone. I absolutely recommend bringing your pets to North Davidson Vet to see Dr Schmunk. He has been a veterinarian for many years and knows how to handle all animals very well. The ladies up front are very polite and well spoken. There is nothing they can do to rush your visit, so please don't ask them. I see people do that all the time. The technician is also very knowledgeable about how to medicate your pet if needed and when to bring your pet back for a visit. You can't make an appointment for a regular check up, but if you are bringing your pet in for surgery or boarding, then you can. I suggest arriving there first thing in the morning or else you will be waiting several hours before they see your pet. I was in there for 4 hours before they seen both my cat and dog. Then after, the visit didn't take but all of 30 minutes. Very irritating. I still wouldn't go to another vet though. read more

I really wanted to like North Davidson Vet but my experiences haven't been great. The doctors are actually wonderful but the receptionists and their practices are horrible. I have called time and again and can't get anyone to answer- just to try to make an appointment. I sent an email- no response. I finally made an appointment and then had to wait 45 minutes beyond my appointment time and they are unapologetic and rude. As I was being checked out, one of the office techs came up to the one checking me out and told her that a lady on the phone was frustrated because they couldn't see her- the girl checking me out started making snide comments "let me talk to her please! I will tell her if she doesn't like it she can gladly pick another vet!!" I thought that was cold and horrible- especially to say in front of me. I guess they forget that for some people, our pets are our family and their care is a real priority. I would encourage the owners to consider some serious training on customer service and efficiency for the office team. read more

Dr Schmunk is amazing He is so kind and so knowledgeable. I also adore Sr Breland. Both have treated my pets humanely and kindly. However the vet techs and the front end staff are HORRIBLE! They truly don't give a damn. I realize it's hard to find good people nowadays but a robot could show more compassion. They totally put off a bad vibe. The staff are absolutely amazing - they are friendly and recognize you and your pet only after a couple visits. They are so gentle and loving towards all the animals and they do everything they can to keep the animals calm and comfortable. When it comes to the staff, 5 stars. This place is DIRTY. I understand that there are hundreds of animals in and out of there on a daily basis, but it doesn't look like this place ever gets swept, mopped, dusted, or cleaned in any way. When it comes to cleanliness, 1 star. They do not accept appointments for shots or check-ups, and unless you get there right as they open, plan on being there AT LEAST 2 hours. I have been going to this vet for 6 years and I don't think I've ever been in and out in less than 2 hours. I have been there for as long as 4 hours from check in to check out. I appreciate that the vets take their time with the animals, but taking my dog for a rabies shot should not be an all day affair. I wait for 2 hours and am in the room for less than 10 minutes and then I am checked out. When it comes to service time, 1 star. Their prices are amazingly affordable. I have 4 dogs and if it wasn't for NDVH, I wouldn't be able to afford all of them. When it comes to prices, 5 stars. I have only had one bad experience there and it was with an older female vet who needs to just retire. She charged me $250 for 4 different procedures and still misdiagnosed my dog. Took her back a week later and another female doctor had her correctly diagnosed and scheduled for surgery in less than 5 minutes. I don't want this one bad experience to affect my overall review, but if you get an older female vet with short, curly, white hair, PLEASE request a different vet. 3 stars overall solely because their staff and prices make it worthwhile in my opinion. read more

My family & I have taken our pets to Dr. Jim since I was a kid (I think it was around 1989 when we first went). My grandmother was a cat breeder who wouldn't take her show-winning cats to anyone else. He saved our pets' lives on more than one occasion. Although we did stray & go to other vets, I ended up going back to Dr. Jim because I felt that other vets were overcharging & didn't care as much. I took my new dog there because she got into some medicated treats when I wasn't looking (had no idea how dexterous she was!). He treated her and gave medicine for 2 visits that, combined, cost less than one visit at other vets. When I had to put my cat to sleep, Dr. Breland showed much sympathy, & didn't even charge us for the exam we had come in for initially. As for the other reviews on here, yes, it's very crowded & takes a long time. It's because they're so great with pets. It's just something you're going to have to deal with when you get that kind of care without charging an arm & a leg. Also, they're no dirtier than a few other vets I've been to. There for parvo treatment mind u she did not even weight 1 pound she was a teacup chihuahua and 10 weeks old we had a vet appt Monday for shots and sunday she woke me up puking I took her to the emergency vet in concord and they charged 900.00 for a few hours to treat parvo. This vet charged Name only 500.00 for 7 days ahe died on the 7th day Sunday but I know in my heart they gave it there all and a few techs was to upset when she passed I think she thought I had left her and gave up I'm on my way back to get her ashes the vet and the staff here are amazing and I will not go anywhere else yes they are busy but that's due to them being so awesome I miss my possum so badly I need her!!! thank u to the vet and staff for being so great to my baby in her final days !! read more

Do not go to the North Davidson Veterinary Hospital, last week I called them to try and get our new cat Tom seen for a check up, he hasn't been seen in over two years, his previous owner got sick and understandably the cat's check-up was the last thing on her mind. So I called Wednesday and was told to come over and bring a drivers license to be put in their system, which took about an hour, then when I asked about making him an appointment they told me that it was first come first serve so I should get there when they open at 7:30. I should mention due to covid-19 you have to wait in your car and call them to let them know you are there and want to be seen, there are 8 phone lines and if your lucky you get put on one of them and wait for someone to answer your call. I got up early this morning wrangled the cat and put him in his carrier and was in the parking lot right before 7:30 only to find out that they aren't open till 8:00, I was annoyed at that point but not as much as Tom was, which he vocalized to me every half second. Then at 8:00 I started calling, I called them over and over and over again, frustrated that people who had gotten there much later than me were somehow able to get their call through, and were able to get seen before me, mad me walk to the door, to let the staff member know that I had been there for a very long time and I couldn't seem to get through, I was polite, I know it wasn't her fault, but she told me to just keep trying. I eventually let Tom out of his carrier, feeling bad for him and getting tired of his constant yowling, I have car seat covers and floor mats if he makes a mess in my car then he makes a mess, but he was very happy to be out of the carrier and just sat beside me purring while he looked out the windows, as I petted him, all the while still calling the vet desperate to get through. In the end I gave up, I came home and counted how many time I called their number, and I called them a total of 334 times, I managed to get on 1 of their 8 lines 3 times, only to wait about 5 minutes to get booted off. Thank goodness I was only there for a routine check up, if this had been an emergency visit Tom would have died in my car waiting for a phone call to get through. I took Tom home then went to MoeJoe Coffee House in Welcome, which is fantastic by the way, to get some much needed caffeine, God bless the barista who listened to me rant and even suggested a vet in Arcadia for me to try. I will try and call a few vets near me and hopefully one of them will be willing to see new patients. Today has been a lesson in patience. read more

Here we go again seeing people upset about waiting. Blah, blah, blah whine. If you want the best health care for you pet wait. If you just need a check up and some meds, just leave and go somewhere else. You will pay probably double, but you will not be sitting as long. No need to complain by writing something bad when in a reality you are telling the readers that you consider youself more important than the the rest of the people waiting in front of you. If you go in with a real emergency then that is how it will be treated. They do not take appointments because if your pet really needs care, you can't make an appointment 2 days away. You have to go then. NDVH is the best REAL veterinary clinic around. Actually everyone else is more a well visit center. They do shots, weigh you pet, sell heartworm meds, do spay and neutering Etc. If that is what you have to do go there. If you want the best care, the most experience and a place that does do complicated surgery as routine this is where you go. You will never see a Veterinarian that cares it works harder or longer than Jim. A regular day for him is 16 to 18 hours. That is person who cares. read more

I have been taking my dog to this vet for over a year and her symptoms never went away, still itching 24/7 with a horrible smell even with being washed multiple times a week. I have spent over $500 with North Davidson and my dog was still miserable. I recently took my dog to another vet where they diagnosed her with allergies, atopic dermatitis and HOOK WORMS. If you are looking for basic shots for a puppy this is a great place to go since they will make appointments for those things but a basic wellness check up this is NOT that place to go. They are so busy that they don't really look at your dog to find the answer. They do a basic look over and prescribe what they think may work. Only leading to additional visits and more money. So the fact that it is so cheap initially gets old when you are returning on a monthly basis just to see no results. I would NOT suggest this vet and it is solely based on the fact that they never diagnosed my dog correctly out of the 12 times they saw her. I went to Southside Animal Hospital in Winston Salem ONCE and my dog has not itched in over 5 days, and no extreme smell and has not gotten a bath since Saturday. read more

Please, please, please do not take your animals here unless you truly cannot afford proper healthcare and this is your only option. I wish I knew better and listened to my intuition, but it is too late now. A few months ago we took our zoey in because she stopped eating and were concerned. Upon doing blood work they found that she was going through the early stages of kidney failure so she would have to be emitted right away to run tests and flush her body with fluids. Well, turns out they forgot to do the urinalysis prior to flushing with fluids and failed to run any other tests. A few days later we were told to pick her up and there was nothing they could do. Not satisfied, I took her to our now current vet and within 10 minutes and a very simple test they found out that her kidneys were shutting down because of lymes disease which is rare, but treatable. It is also something we were told should be part of the yearly blood work done as a routine checkup. So essentially this should have been caught and corrected before it affected her kidneys. Zoey immediately started treatment, but it was too late and we lost her. There is more I can report of how the staff were not friendly, the facility is not clean, and are hardly responsive in sending records, but the most important thing is that we lost our dog because we settled for a subpar vet. Also, this place does not have a good rep with other vets, we had to redo all of our animals vaccinations upon switching over because our new place does not trust N. Davidson. read more

!!!!!DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! !!!!!MUST READ!!!!! We have taken my cats here since they were kittens. Service used to be somewhat okay, but has been horrible these past few years. Everyone goes here because yes, they do have cheaper prices. But in this case, CHEAPER PRICES MEANS WORSE CARE FOR YOUR ANIMALS. We have had to FIGHT to get them to run tests when we think something is wrong. We were worried that one of our cats had diabetes, and they did not want to test for that. They ran other tests, but not the one for diabetes. We had to demand they do the test for diabetes, and it came back positive. Another cat was having clear issues with his teeth. We took him last June and they blew it off as "gum disease." They gave him antibiotics and sent him home without looking into it any further. Fast forward to this month, and the cat is still in pain. After an emergency vet visit, it was clear that there was a serious issue. He ended up having to have 14 teeth pulled because his teeth were decaying. This other vet said that this could have been prevented if caught earlier on... like when we took him to NDVH last year. Our third cat has megacolon. He has had chronic constipation for years, and they never looked for an underlying issue. After doing my own research, I was pretty sure he had megacolon. I had to ask them to do testing, and sure enough, it was megacolon. This is a serious issue, and he has had to go in multiple times for enemas. However, they don't seem to care or understand the urgency of it. Before they allowed appointments, we would have to wait for hours on end to get him to be seen. Now that they make appointments, it's not much better, and he has had to wait a week or more each time to receive his enema, meaning that he is blocked up an suffering until then. We have switched vets, and it has been SO MUCH BETTER. However, the new vet has done some testing and is concerned that he could have cancer or another serious issue. They were able to determine this from an X-ray. This cat received TWO X-rays at NDVH a few months ago... and maybe this could have been caught sooner. read more

Dr. Schmunk and his team are superb! I highly trust them with the care of my baby Sassy. The team really cares about my pet and what is best for her. Ok so although everyone was saying it was a long wait, i still went and yes i waited a looong time (11ish am-a little over 5ish) but it was definitely worth the wait!! The Dr was very patient with my over protective Min Schnauzer, took care of the pups and gave me plenty of information and answered all my questions. I also want to point out one person, and that is Madison (receptionist), she went beyond trying to get my disease pups cremated and accomplished. She ha very good customer service and is very helpful. I am so thankful for all her help and answered all my questions and concerns. I waited almost 2.5 hours in a crowded waiting area and when finally put in a room stayed there another half hour with my sick cat. I finally left, without getting her looked at as they could not tell me if it would be another 30 or 60 minutes!!! People who had come in after me were taken care of so they definitely do not take you as you sign in. the attendent said "we are inexpensive compared to most vets in the area". well, my time is worth paying a little more, and my cats health is worth being taken in a timely basis. If I could give this vet negative stars, I would. We took our 1.5 year old dog to this vet after he stopped eating and was vomiting. The first time we took him, we waited for over two hours just to be told he had a stomach bug and to give him Gatorade with his water and rice. We took him home, followed the doctor's advice, and did see a slight improvement for a few hours. Later that night, our dog began vomiting again which turned into him vomiting blood and refusing to eat. We rushed him back to North Davidson simply because they had seen him just the day before for the same symptoms. After waiting for about an hour, we were seen by Doctor Schmunk who did not run any type of test or blood work and insisted that our dog just be given fluids. The doctor was convinced our dog had gotten into rat poison when we were adamant we did not keep that in or around our home. The doctor refused to listen to us or our concerns or are requests for tests and bloodwork. They kept our dog overnight while doing nothing more than giving him fluids and told us to call every few hours to check on him. We called that night and was advised he had gotten a little better and were told that we should be encouraged by his progress. We advised the doctor to call us if there were any changes, no matter what the time. We heard nothing overnight, which we assumed to be a good sign. However, when we called to check on him first thing the next morning, we were told he died. The doctor offered no explanation and even worse, no sympathy or concern. We were told to pick up our dog and given a time to come. When we arrived, we were told to go around to the back of the building by the dumpster where we were essentially thrown our dog, which was in a trash bag. The staff here is not only unprofessional, uncaring, and unfriendly; but they don't even perform at the minimal level of professional veterinary care. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. This may be a low-cost vet; but the low cost is not worth the shortcuts the staff here take. read more

I wish I had read the negative posts before I wasted two and a half hours. The office staff is not friendly and while I was waiting people who had been there a 1/2 hour or even an hour less than me were helped while I still waited. Once I was shown to an exam room, I really noticed how dirty and unkempt the place was. I waited in an exam room until I absolutely had to leave to get somewhere else. I let one of the technicians know and suddenly a doctor was available. I did notice that the technicians and vet were extremely nice and the prices are great. This was the worst experience I've ever had. After over a yr dealing with Covid I'm told they still aren't up to speed with the guidelines and couldn't let owners in with their pets. We waited 3 hrs for our dogs examination that should've only taken about 30 minutes. When after 2 hrs I asked what was taking so long We were told the vet takes a while to write up his notes!! The tech called next to tell me my dog would be out shortly. someone else then called to get my info to pay the bill and when asking for a breakout of my bill I was told curtly I would get a printout. Once paying it was another 30-45 min before they returned my dog. My dog was traumatized from fear. Her chin was soaked and when I asked why I was told she was drooling from being nervous. She's never done this in the 13 years we've had her and appeared to be totally dazed when she was finally returned to us. The service should be There's absolutely no reason for an exam to take this long and my dog to be traumatized. I recently adopted a 6 week old pit bull from davie animal shelter. Unfortunately we were not told his brother died the day prior from parvo and our little Thor was never tested for it. Thank godbi found this vet! They took him in for a week and put up with my constant worried fur momma daily calls. He came through with flying colors and is now fat, happy, and a little turd! The Dr. is Wonderful! His office manager, Ms.Shirl Klunder treated me like a second rate citizen. It was racial discrimination in its most potent form. I took my bulldog dog and had her artificially inseminated. My appointment was at 4:30 at 6:00 p.m. the Dr. came in was kind and very professional. The procedure went rather fast. However, when I went to pay my bill, I was told that my (BLACK) American express card was not excepted as a use of payment. I said okay. I had to make another appointment for Thursday afternoon (2 days later) to ensure the procedure worked. At that point I asked " can I pay on Thursday when I return"? Her reply.... No leave your dog and come back with the money the next day... $65.00. That being said, I live an hour away. Not to mention I was told NOT to have the dog under ANY stress due to the procedure may not take. At that point, as a compromise I offered to leave my North Carolina Drivers license as well as my American Express Card to save the stress on my pet from being crated. That too was NOT acceptable. Please bare in mind that NOWHERE was payment options. After the 2 1/2 hour ordeal, I had to phone my mother in Ohio to pay a $65.00 bill for me. Embarrassing to say the least, when I hold a credit card that requires me to spend $50,000.00 a month and be paid in full each month. Dr. Schmunk seems to be a wonderful vet. However, After being terribly mistreated by Shirl Klunder (office manger) I will NEVER return to North Davidson Veterinary Hospital as long as Shirl Klunder is still employed. This e-mail is being sent to all 523 e-mail contacts, and every website that I can find to post it on. She may have acted inhuman towards myself and my pets welfare. So lets stop it.
