Dr Maher is a jerk. The office, bathroom and exam rooms are filthy. He overbooks. Today my wife was in for a second exam. When they didn't do the exams they had my wife in for, he flipped out when she asked why. He started screaming get out of my office. He chased her to the reception area. When I asked what was going on. I was told it's his off and he runs it as he wishes. They then told me he wanted us removed and if we didn't leave he was calling the police, 911. I am also a patient and was told we weren't wanted in his office anymore. read more

Both of those reviews preceding mine are ridiculous and it's terrible that they're the only ones reviewing this clinic. Dr Fanous is an outstanding glaucoma specialist. That is why I know of him. He took care of my parents and their cataracts and my mother's glaucoma and my OWN "suspected structure" for glaucoma. He is very careful and very precise. He doesn't skip anything. The staff haven't been any problem. Yes, he has assistance who will see you first before he does and it can take a while. You're seeing a surgeon specialist when you go to see him. He's got a lot of patients. I haven't seen anybody griping like these two jerks did in here who now make it look like this is a one star place when it's actually the premiere place for getting glaucoma checked for in this area. Dr Fanous remembers all his patients and he's a very nice man. He works his tail off from what I have seem. He doesn't do this for the money because he would've already retired by now. I am appalled that the only reviews here when I arrived were by two people that haven't even been to the office but once and didn't even see him and didn't get to know his work and don't know what they're talking about. I don't think that should be allowed. I think you should have to actually be seen by a doctor before you review him. He is such a highly skilled doctor that he is sought internationally and has even gone overseas to provide care pro bono at times. I haven't ever had any problem with Dr Fanous's work and I've been going to him since around 2009. The only thing I noticed recently that could be better is that he has switched recently to a web billing that is confusing but that just started recently. I kind of liked the regular billing people that he previously used but again this is something very recent and it isn't something that's a big deal and it's not something that the two hit pieces that I see on this page referenced. They were just out to slime him over having to wait or being scheduled for a first visit his normal way -- NEITHER SMEAR AUTHOR ACTUALLY WENT TO AN APPOINTMENT WITH HIM. He's not doing anything unusual in his office procedure. I'm giving him five stars because he's that good and he's done very good cataracts work as a surgeon too with my father. He absolutely deserves that and more for his long years of skillful service and attentive care. read more

I have had a bad experience with Dr. Fanous. I had 2 separate appointments in which I had to wait 2 hours for service, meanwhile getting examined by students. I have double vision from a closed head injury years ago and wear corrective glasses with prisms. Read the summation of findings and you will see no recommendation of new lenses or follow up. I had an appointment this morning @8 am and called to cancel due to nausea and I could not reach either office at all to explain, so again Dr. Fanous and North Florida Eye Center fails again. The care exhibited is far below quality care. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants great care and opthamoligists. I am V. Short and sweet version: The reception staff were courteous and friendly; everything else about the experience sucked. Longer version: A few months ago, at my regular eye exam, I learned that my intraocular pressure looked high (a sign of possible glaucoma or incipient glaucoma). I scheduled a followup with the doctor who did more extensive testing and rated it "high normal." He wanted to take one more check later. But since this went beyond our "vision insurance" and the doctor was out of network for our regular "health insurance," we got a referral for an "in-network" provider, North Florida Eye Center. After filling out several pages of paperwork that arrived in the mail (all the information that should have been easily available electronically to an "in-network provider"), I arrived 15 minutes early for the time scheduled to have my pressure checked. 45 minutes AFTER the time scheduled for the appointment, I was finally called in, told that the doctor wouldn't just do what he was hired to do (check the intraocular pressure), and insisted on a "full exam when he sees the patient for the first time." Meaning a hefty payment, well above what I expected, of course. So I informed the nurse that I guessed the doctor WOULDN'T be seeing THIS patient for the first time, and left. Out in the parking lot, we ran into a patient who had ALSO been waiting 30-60 minutes past her scheduled appointment time and was hopping mad. These days, doctors do robocalls to confirm appointments, make it clear that "we've reserved this time specifically for you," expect you to show up early, and sometimes even bill you if you're not there on time. For doctors, time is money. Well, time is money for the rest of us, too. That's an hour of my life I won't get back, above and beyond the fact that I schedule an appointment for a specific procedure, not a bunch of stuff that I've already HAD done and have no need to have done again, then got offered a bulldozer choice of all or nothing.
