North Island Medical is a clinic to avoid. I really like Dr. Fisher; however, the staff is horrible. I had been going there for a while, but they have lost good people, and those remaining should not be there. I had a prescription requiring a few clinical questions in order to be refilled and they didn't do it, so my prescription was dropped. They would never return my calls to let me know what was going on and they would never answer the phone. I am now looking for a different provider. I would highly recommend against going to this clinic if you want proper care and attention. read more

North Island Medical, with PA Joshua Sands and his nurse Jason, is a clinic to avoid! After almost six years of care, I was forced to find a new provider. My issue could have easily been avoided. I have taken the same medications for many years. I lost my job in July and started a new one in November, which began with a new insurance plan in December. This new insurance requires prior authorization for two medications; the insurer has its own portal to complete the prior authorization. Jason refused to use the given portal, and no one else can complete the form, so I am screwed until I can see a new provider and establish care. read more

I was going to give this outfit 2 stars because my intake nurse, Adrianna was so great, but I want to have an impact on the overall rating, so I'm going to have to go with 1. Dr. Dan Fisher can not think for himself and he can not see what is right in front of him-a suffering human being. Saying Dan Fisher, M.D. is a dodo brain would be too high a compliment. I was right in front of him begging for help, desperate, but he could only look at my medical history on his computer(a history of misdiagnosis, contempt prior to investigation and discrimination against mental illness-the whole medical system has failed me). I told him that the problem is I have been misdiagnosed on multiple occasions by doctors who are seemingly in it for the money or prestige. In philosophy 101 we learn a theorem based on a false premise will fall apart. I am about to fall apart. If I could find a doctor who had any F'n humanity, I would stick with them. Update Part 1 (November '25): been in Oak Harbor off and on for the last 10 years. This place is absolutely atrocious and disgusting. You know the worst part about it? The manager. She's disgustingly rude and I believe it's been her the last 7 years I've had issues with. She's hung up the phone on me multiple times, can't do a dang thing nor be bothered. My doctor is good, but he put in prescriptions in August and it's November now. Guess what? Every time he puts them in to Express Scripts, Walgreens, or the VA I have to spend hours on the phone (with the pharmacies) who are like "we've faxed over information multiple times now to them and had our speciality pharmacists call over to them." I call North Island Medical (and a majority of the time they don't answer or return phone calls for WEEKS on end or often NOT AT ALL) and Avis/ Mavis whatever the manager's name is says "IM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH YOU. YOU KEEP LEAVING VOICEMAILS." I left a voicemail for 3 minutes prior to her calling me this week and I go "did you listen to the voicemail?" Her response is "NO! I didn't and I'm not going to!" I asked her if this is how she talks to or treats any other patient. Look at all the reviews here and on Google! She told me to pound sand pretty much regarding my referrals and prescriptions acting like shes God (she ain't! She's the exact opposite) and did everything right! This woman is evil to the core. Every time I'm there she and she sees me she barks something horrible at me. I've lived in 10 states across the U.S., west, Midwest, east coast and this is by far the most humiliating, stressful, disgusting place I've ever lived. Dr. Fisher is fine and one of the only good doctors on Whidbey and Oak Harbor. It's this woman and it's like pulling teeth trying to get anything done. I'm following everyone's advice and filing a complaint with the Attorney General's office and medical malpractice complaints, and if I have time, I will enact a class action lawsuit because we deserve better. Much, much better than being treated, disrespected, and discriminated against people that have no business being in a medical job who's responsibility is to care for the patient and take care of them - nonetheless ANY JOB. Their representatives (the people that own the company) Jen in Mt Vernon and others keep calling and texting me and yet now they dodge my calls and feedback too because of everything I said. A medical malpractice lawsuit must be filed. This business must shut down. The manager conducts illegal activities (such as demanding copays upfront instead of sending it in the mail or billing it - I read all the Google and Yelp reviews below). She is not a nice person and has no respect for humanity. I'm not the only one that thinks this considering the other reviews and her own staff members saying "yeah, she hates everyone!" Horrible, horrible woman. I doubt any of us did anything to her aside from ask her to do her dang job and help us and that's what drives her over the edge! She banged on my door as hard as she could about a week or two ago when seeing Dr. Fisher and came in very stern and trying to intimidate me! Why? Because I'm disabled and have a lot of issues, putting on clothes and driving all the way there for an appointment that didn't need to check my vitals and could've been addressed on telehealth is what I wanted. They LIED and claimed telehealth was banned last month by the government! The waiver only applies to MEDICARE patients and doctors facilities are still doing them despite this! And I don't even have Medicare! I have the VA and Tricare! I'm so mad. She's disrespectful, rude, abrasive, she doesn't have a kind bone in her body. The place needs to be shut down and liquidated. Enough is enough. I'm at my wits end with this company and this woman. It was bad 7 years ago and it's still bad! Adriana and Dr Fisher are the only helpful ones for this facility! They're practically the ONLY doctor's office in the U.S. that does not have an online patient portal to upload forms or documents, nor email, or any electronic means to communicate. AND they don't answer the phone! Ever! Especially if they recognize your number! They transfer you, goes straight to voicemail. They don't even BOTHER to listen to the calls. I'd call the police to file a report if I could but this is more of a civil case unfortunately. I've never been treated so poorly by a doctor's office in my lifetime. These people are DANGEROUS! They messed up two of my prescriptions with the wrong strength and time release. They could have killed me. Fortunately, I read the bottle. After several calls I finally got the right drugs. Then, I called another prescription in to Safeway on April 2, they sent to the drs office. I called Safeway again on April 5th, they said they had sent another fax to the dr, nothing from the dr! I called again, Safeway said they had faxed the dr again on April 8th! Still nothing! Worst clinic ever. Please go anywhere but here. Joshua Sands was the worst provider ever. I ended up in urgent care with pneumonia and was given antibiotics. I went to see Joshua Sands and he scolded me saying I shouldn't have gone to urgent care or be taking the antibiotics, yet he never listened to my lungs, looked at the paperwork I gave him directly from urgent care with my diagnosis, nothing. But yet he somehow thinks he what I did was not necessarily, and provided zero care or guidance for me. Most of the time he was typing away on the computer, completely ignoring anything I said, and when I asked any questions, he'd type away some more, as if he was trying to Google an answer, or he'd have to leave the room to go ask someone else what to do. I always pay my bills on time. The company sent me a bill to the wrong address and sent it to collections. I called the company to ask them to pull the collection back so that I could pay them directly and the billing person said that they can't pull it back. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB and Attorney General. I'm happy to pay and resolve this with the company if they want me to pay them directly. Their mistake and not mine. They had my correct address when I went in and chose to send bills to the wrong address. Never using this company again. No phone calls, emails, or bills by mail to me or I would have paid. read more

I was so impressed and happy with the time and care I received from Nurse Jason and from ARNP Jessica. They were kind, and so friendly to me as a new patient. I was nervous. Jason took my vitals and was so sensitive when he took my blood pressure. He did the procedure correctly and this is the first time in many years I was not hurt when it was being done. This is so important to get a correct reading. They were attentive to my health history, were knowledgeable and explained to me new information I didn't know. Victoria at the front desk was helpful, friendly and welcoming. I also know that it is important to book ahead if you want to see a particular medical provider and in an emergency you will see staff that is available. It is rough for both patients and medical providers currently due to lack of providers at all practices and this is the third practice I have been to and had to establish a relationship with since my last two providers have left their practice in a little over six months. read more

my wife and I has been with them for maybe a year. We don't really see Doctors that often. We might have been at the clinic 3 times for me and 2 times for my wife. Awhile back maybe my 2nd visit there, I told them I want to pay my bill and I did. I thought the bill was for my wife and I but it wasn't. I received the bill for my wife and I figure I can just pay it on my next visit. Next thing I received a bill from collection saying that we owe $48. When I tried to pay it during my appointment they said that I couldn't since it went on collection. We are talking $48 dollars not $100, not $70, not even $50. A simple phone call would have solved the problem. There should be a ceiling before they send a bill to collection. Like maybe over $100 is reasonable because of the implication on your credit rating if they care about any of that but I guess they want their $48 read more

I see Joshua Sands. I moved here from Orlando in January and looked for a primary care provider that could help with my back and hip issues. I brought my medical records from my doctors in Florida. Mr Sands listens very well and has excellent bedside manner. He has a team of doctors and resources helping him that he can access anytime. It has been a pleasure seeing him for my back issues. Almost every disc in my back in herniated and he is helping me get the right help and injections for pain. He is a valuable team member to this practice. The front office has always been very helpful. I have made several appointments with the office to review my medical history and respect their time as well. I have also met Dr Lemme for a Bursa injection in my hip and he is very knowledgeable. It was definitely the right choice for me to pick this office! read more

Dr. Fisher is the best doctor that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. He is highly intelligent, compassionate, and informative. He has helped me through many adverse situations with his professionalism and caring. I live in Arlington, but I make the drive to Oak harbor to be treated by the best. It is sooooooo worth it. I highly recommend Dr Fisher and his office. All of his staff are wonderful, too. They make you feel comfortable and I feel so at home that it is like I'm visiting good friends. read more

Almost every interaction my wife and I have with this clinic's staff, they are sure to follow with an obstacle... whether it's never answering the phone, returning calls days later, disrespectful attitude, near impossible to reach billing, failure to send claims to insurance, failure to notify patients when doctors no longer accept the insurance that they previously accepted, and a litany of staffing errors. This last straw was due to me trying to schedule an appointment and the staff denied me because I was supposedly sent to collections for $246.95. I called collections and they only knew about a copay that they failed to mention nor send a bill for. When I spoke with the manager, she admitted there was a mistake and that I wasn't in collections... apparently forgetting about the copay again. When I explained my frustrations, her reply was "hope you find better primary care elsewhere!" ...and that's what makes it even more frustrating: the fact that it's almost impossible to find primary care and immediate care services like they provide on the island... and they obviously, sneeringly know it! The only reason why I'm giving them two stars is the fact that they do provide more services and have absolutely excellent physicians... I just wish they could keep them around for longer. I cancelled what appointment we had scheduled and are going elsewhere. read more

Went here to get some lab work done was told it would cost around $120 and when I left the office that's what i paid. Then two weeks later i got a bill from the LabCorp for $246 for this visit. Seems the 120 they were talking about was for the two minute "consultation" i received, nice. I should note i went in here knowing what test i needed to get run and was told these people were the only medical office in town that would do it without an appointment. Also they were the ones who insisted i needed to be consulted by the doctor. But whatever lesson learned, would not recommend. read more

I sliced open my finger at home, a friend told us to head here. Whether they could have assisted us or not, I'll never know. Since when I arrived the nurse looked up at me holding my hand in a blood soaked paper towel and said to the other male nurse/receptionist "I'm going to lunch you've got this." The remaining nurse or receptionist couldn't even bother to look me in the face as he was on the phone, not a "I'll be right with you" or even being told, "you should go to the ER" would have been sufficient. We stood there for five minutes literally being ignored before we decided to leave and drive the half hour to Anacortes, where we would be acknowledged. I will never step foot in this establishment again, and will recommend no one I know does either. Hopefully after reading this you won't waste your time either. read more

Went here for urgent care after bad fall. Was told by unfriendly front desk person that my wait could be 4 minutes or 4 hours. Also told they were not urgent care. We decided to wait. Saw Dr. Lemme who examined my foot/ankle and said it was just a sprain and I didn't need x rays. Told to ice and elevate which I did. A week later after returning home we went to our local urgent orthopedic care because I was still in great pain. They DID X-rays. I had a fracture of the fibula! Lost a week of healing! I would think a 79 year old woman who was doing well 7 weeks out of a knee replacement would have been examined more carefully! Ironic that I kept telling him where it really hurt and he ignored me. read more

I went here with (unbeknownst to me at the time) with an infected gallbladder with stones. I was in pain. The receptionist refused my insurance. Demanded cash payment 1/2 up front before I could see a doctor. Once I saw a doctor, he didn't even take my temperature, only told me to go to the hospital emergency room. As I left the building, vomiting, the receptionist chased me outside to my car to collect $300 for the office visit, refusing to bill me. I do not recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

I just went to my new doctor yesterday, Dr. Mark Duncan. Great clinic and facility. The staff are great. I didn't have to wait long before I was taken back to the exam room and I didn't have to wait long for the doctor. Dr. Duncan was great and listened to my problems attentively and then offered great options for me. He didn't hesitate to give me a referral that I needed and didn't try to talk me out of it. Great customer service and bedside manner! Dr Duncan really cares about his patients and gets to the cause of the problem to fix it permanently and not just treat the symptoms like my many other doctors I have had. They even take walk-ins and will take care of stitches so I don't need to visit an ER! read more

I went to Dr. Lemme for pain in my left knee. He ordered xrays. I received a call from his "assistant" who said I had arthritis... I asked what Dr. Lemme suggested or advised. The assistance said there was nothing further he had been given to tell me. 4 months later I had pain in my right leg, different pains and when it became so painful that I could barely walk, I went back. Dr. Lemme looked in my file and said, you have arthritis. I said that I know I did in my left leg. Then he told me that it was in both legs. I told them that he had not given me that or any other information through this assistant... not even what to do. He laughed and explained that motrin was the answer. So, I decided to not pay for the second visit. This action has reached the Attorney General's office in Washington State. When they asked North Island Medical, the clinic replied with total lies... "Complainant was seen in our office on 12/29/2015 for left knee pain by Dr. David Lemme. At that time the provider ordered Xrays for bilate knees, strengthening exercises, continue weight bearing activities, and to follow up with him after the Xray is completed. Complainant then came back to us on 08/11/16 for right leg and knee pain was seen by Dr. David Lemme. At that time patient complained of pain in the knee, sometimes deep pain like varicose veins in the upper thigh. Pain will radiate to right ankle at times. At that time the provider ordered continue use of elastic sleeve for comfort and support, continue low impact exercise and daily ROM exercises, thyroid ultrasound ordered, consider repeat Xrays of knees if pain not improving, and follow up 2 to 4 weeks as needed for continued symptoms." Those darn grandchildren lured our physician to Oregon: now what? A friend, whose husband is never sick, was seen at North Island because they will accept people who just show up. They are even open on Saturday! Could this be a patient-focused medical practice? "The husband" saw a nurse practitioner and came away with a correct diagnosis, a treatment plan, a follow-up appointment and instructions to call (anytime) if he was worse or the symptoms changed. Well, it sounded remarkably like caring. Scheduling my first appointment, some months later, the practitioner's schedule was full, I was given an appointment with a physician. Oh my gosh, he sat and didn't look at the laptop, he looked at me. He listened and took a few notes! He asked questions, suggested some feasible disease process, clarifying my symptoms against the possibilities. This process took much longer than the usual 20 minutes yet he, Dr. Fisher, never seemed rushed. When we were finished he didn't ask if there was anything else with his hand on the doorknob! He walked out with me. This experience was almost worth being sick. The front office staff was a misery, as other reviewers have said. I am sick infrequently; when I had my next appointment some magic had happened and there was an entirely new staff. The front, office is helpful, personable and professional now. More than that they are kind. I wish everyone could find medical care of this quality. read more

I have tried my best to not ad to the over stressed medical community of professionals during this pandemic. I have not seen a doctor in over a year even though I am a high risk patient. However when I call my doctors office for the first time to ask a question about my condition I expect some kindness and respect. Instead I am rudely dismissed . I have overlooked this office front desk inappropriate behavior before the pandemic, but this is not acceptable! I wish I would of asked who I was speaking to, but unfortunately the way her curt unhelpful way she spoke to me caught me off guard and made me feel I was interrupting her television show. I called for the very first time in a year for concern over my health, but obviously that is not of concern to this woman who works at a medical office. I seriously need to find a medical office that hires people who have some professionalism and compassion. I'm better off paying for a call a doc. I am very disappointed in the "no caring" lazy behavior of this front office. I pray that the doctors and nurses who have dedicated their lives to serve those who need their expertise to be better represented than who they have working for them now. read more

I was sent here by my insurance company after speaking with a nurse who told me that my son needed to be seen within the next few hours. This is the only urgent care on the island so I rushed over and got there 30 minutes before closing, I walked into an empty waiting room (and empty parking lot) Someone behind the desk asked me what was going on and as I explained it to him, he started to hand me a clipboard with paperwork saying that they would squeeze him in. He was then stopped by an old lady behind the desk saying absolutely not, we have no room for him, you'll have to take him somewhere else. Thank you SO much for turning my sick 2 year old away, and making for a much more difficult evening for myself and my family. read more

I can not express my thanks enough to Dr. Lemming and the whole staff for seeing my daughter after falling off a rock wall at school during lunch recess. They tried to get her to get x-rays STAT on Goldie Rd. The entire staff stayed behind for their lunches to get her in for x-rays. Wound up going to hospital where she had x-rays and promptly sent to ER for a splint. CANNOT THANK THEM ENOUGH!!!! After four hours in hospital the Dr. Called my home AFTER HOURS to check on her and left his cell #. I'll DEFINITELY BE CALLING HIM MONDAY! read more

Don't ever go here for urgent care. Been here for 3+ hours and there were only three people in the waiting room. Nothing like feeling extremely sick and having a doctors office take their time. My advice is that you just go to the ER, just as expensive and the wait is probably shorter...who would've guessed. Staff would not allow me to make an appointment even though I had a referral and prior auth from my insurance company. I have never ran into this issue in all my time with Tricare. I have been going to this clinic for primary and urgent care needs for years. Recently I have experienced a decline in care from this facility. Last week I was in need of urgent mental health care. I called 2 days in a row, finally spoke to a nurse or MA who told me I need to be seen in order to get my meds. I was told my provider was booked out 3 weeks, but I could walk in to get help. I tried 2 days in a row, the first day I was turned away due to unavailability of staff to help me. The second day was the same, however they were accepting medical walk ins. After I paid my copay, I was told that there is nothing they can do and they couldn't see me. I asked for my provider to call me by phone. During this time I was having a panic attack in front of the receptionist. She said she would send a note back, but nothing else could be done. It's been 3 days (8 days since I first tried to get help) and still nothing. Mental health is ignored and it's so upsetting that I have excellent insurance but I am unable to get the help that I desperately need during one of the most difficult mental health crisis' I've experienced. read more

worst experience i have ever encounter. no kind of professionalism.. the clerk had a fall out with my company boss who sent me. mind you i was just here weeks before for a different reason and after paying all this money just for skin irritations. everything was dandy then. so in my boss own hands she took it to a higher authority and complain when this had nothing to do with me only to had them 2 argue over seeking help for me this time around. apparently they train the front desk clerk to hound guesses and bark on command, because she was very rude. and so now me given them another try. failed me again. when im way across the states needing a refill from the doctor when my skin irritations. the front desk clerk was more concern about who she was helping and realized it was me. got my info and pretended to help me before xmas. well given it another 2 days doctor duncan also supposedly called to collect the same info i just gave his assistants. they were really scouting if you ask me. only he too called to pretend like he were going to help and send it to my nearest cvs or walgreens. only to find out he called to verify my voice to see if he also remembered me. and so obviously he figured it out it was me. and never bothered sending my refill. no explination. no return calls after. and this was before xmas and new years. today is now jan. 18th. and still no service or updates.. this place is garbage and the so call primary doctor of mine has failed me. or just refused to help me because of the tensions my boss and his assistant had over the phone. i really cant control what my boss says to her and him therefore she was only protecting me.. i find this place disturbing and unprofessional.. i wish i can report them... mr. duncan my note to you is. you after life is what you make it. and karmas a real thing. bless your circus show you have there.. i hope you train you pets in the front desk way better next time. thanks but no thanks read more
