The lenses got scratched tried calling to get them fixed since he hadn't even had them for 6 months was told they would call me back after months of calling and waiting to talk to someone I haven't had my problem solved. Best optometry experience EVER!!! Wow. Just wow. Every single part of this appointment was truly amazing. The intake process was painless. The office has every state-of-the-art instrument, so no pupil dilation necessary AND AND AND they even have a new kind of that air puffy thingy that is gentler and makes it very easy to get it to work on the first try (the puff of air thing is my least favorite part of an eye exam because I have to redo it so many times). And the people really were the stars. My optometrist, Dr. Margaret Raulino, was fast and accurate AND funny and totally lovely all around, with great recommendations for contact lenses. She really listened to me and made sure to recommend lenses that truly fit my lifestyle choices. Sally and Jasmine were both very knowledgable and made everything a total breeze. They made sure that even though I was out of pocket, that they still filed with my regular insurance for what I could get covered. I cannot imagine a more wonderful experience and wish that every other kind health-related appointment was so delightful! (Am I seriously saying my eye appointment was delightful??? YES. 3 stars that all go to the doc! She's great and the place is fast and professional. Took 2 stars away for the front office staff/assistants (disclaimer that I have not met the girl that does glasses fittings). The front gals are not welcoming AT ALL, monotone and they barely even look at you when they talk to you. 99% of Dr's offices make you feel welcome, say hello, light conversation etc. The front office staff takes you through the preliminary exam steps like robots. There is literally no hello or friendly conversation until you get to the Doctor, who is great. It's like they are reading from a script they've read 1000 times and you are not important...just another patient. A friend mentioned this too and I agreed that I notice this every time I go. Went again this week and yep....same story. I may go elsewhere next time. read more

I have had shots for wet macular degeneration and when we arrived at Tahoe, I had some pain and read some scary scenarios of what could happen if there was infection. There are no ophthalmologists nearby. We thought about going home to have the Stanford Byers Institute check my eye. The visitor center in Tahoe City is fabulous and they liked the local office. Rather than go home, we went there and I was Very happy with Margaret Raulino,OD. She was thorough, professional and clear about my diagnosis, clearing me of a diagnosis of infection, which could have been very serious. I get the feeling, that this office has a great deal of experience for many conditions and is so local - as opposed to Stanford, which is pretty impersonal, so I could not have been happier. read more

Everyone in town told me not to go here. How bad can an eye doc be? Just received a bill for $325 denying my one exam in November because they already billed them for me three times. My insurance paid them out 5 days after my exam. When my insurance rep called them to correct it, they apparently pushed back (he was shocked by his conversation). There is no 'service' at the practice. Dr. Margret Raulino is getting ready to retire and does not give a crap about how the office runs. For two years I've be going there, trying my best to support the local business....but without fail, the office staff is rude, clueless, and profoundly unprofessional. I should have know from the very first contact when the office staff simply picks up the phone without a greeting or identifying who I just called. I chose to ignore it and hope for the best. It's been like that throughout the two years, no followup, no confirmation, no service to speak of. I decided to call the day before one of my appointments to confirm (like it's the patients job to do this?) only to be told that my appointment had be rescheduled! Really?? But the final straw was the most recent, a month ago I came in for a contact lens / eyeglass exam, and to replace the lenses in the glasses I purchased from them just over a year ago. The lens had crazed....looked like a spiderweb had covered them. They let me know that the warranty had expire at the one year mark (it was about 15 months) and that I would have to pay for replacement lenses. Fine...$200 just for lenses? At the completion of my exam, Dr. Raoulino says to go to the front desk and they will hand me my free trial contact lenses. The girl at the desk hands me two boxes of lenes, tells me they are the free trial lenses and to go home and try them out...that was $400 total. (BTW - I'm a cash customer, out of pocket) Some FIVE days later, the office calls, and the girl on the other end fo the line starts the conversation with..."This is the eye doctors office, you owe use $140.) Like REALLY? Yes they say...the front desk accidentally handed out permanent lenses, not sample lenses, ergo..YOU OWE US $140) I explained what happened, they take NO responsibility for THEIR mistake. If you want to be treated like manure, and pay a very high price - be my guest. I'm FINISHED. read more

I went yesterday to have my contact lens prescription renewed. All the tests/equipment seemed to be on par with the better optometrists I've visited. I was helped immediately when I showed up, but I also had an appointment. I ended up leaving with a few samples of new contact lenses to try out. Overall, I'd say I was pretty satisfied with my experience here. read more

I truly cannot give a high enough rating for Dr Margaret and the staff at North Lake Eyecare. They've ALWAYS been professional and caring, but a recent experience only raised my esteem of them: While vacationing, I realized I'd forgotten the device that removes my hard contact lenses. While it's possible to remove them manually, that usually involves a fingernail and a cornea, so not something you want to do frequently. After a quick call, they FedExed a couple of the devices to me and my vacation was saved. I truly cannot thank them enough for their great customer service. Thanks to all! read more

I just don't know what all these negative reviews are about, because I had the greatest experience with this place. They were able to squeeze me in, same day this morning, and they didn't rush through the exam at all. It was probably the most thorough eye exam I've ever had. It's not as though they drew it out, I just felt like they covered it all and in such a timely manor. They have fantastic deals on glasses right now, and I'm totally into the new contacts the dr put me in. They're great for dry climates, which my old ones were not. I feel like I have brand new eyeballs. The staff were all so kind. I wasn't sure what my insurance would cover, if anything, and reception told me to just come on in and they would look into for me, which they did. Fine stars all around. read more

I called the office at 4pm the day before Thanksgiving b/c I was in Tahoe with my 5yo son on holiday and he hit a stick into some ice that morning and was complaining about eye pain. Dr. Raulino saw my son within 10mins of me calling the office, got out a tiny splinter in his eyelid, showed us where the cornea was scratched, and gave us eyedrops. He was better by that evening and I am SO grateful. read more

COULDN'T BE BOTHERED. The Doctor was in a hurry and rushed me through the exam. She was unauthentically "nice" and seemed irritated when I could not make a choice quickly during the testing. She talked too fast and didn't seem to want to allow me a single extra second to consider the options she presented to me. She asked me numerous questions that I had already answered on my history (a very bad sign!) Staff was never clear about what was happening when, where to sit, what to do...it was an overall awkward experience for my second exam ever. Also, be forewarned of the high-pressure staff who know little about the features they want to sell you to add to their already inflated-priced frames. read more

I was very pleased that my broken frames could be replaced so quickly. I paid and was on my way. When I discovered that our insurance covered frames, I was told I would be getting a refund for the difference between what I had paid and what the insurance paid ABOUT A MONTH AGO. When I called back today (December 15), I was told the bookkeeper was taking care of it but would not be back in the office until after January 6. The service was great. I live in Carson City and my wife and I gladly make the 45 minute drive to Tahoe City to see Dr. Raulino at North Lake Tahoe Eyecare. They are always friendly, thorough and fast. They have the latest technology and a nice selection of frames to choose from. Dr. Raulino makes your annual eye exam stress free. We also use the drive up there to grab a nice lunch or early dinner at one of North Lake Tahoe's fine restaurants so we kind of make a fun day out of the experience. Money Hungry and unprofessional sums up this place. I was VERY disappointed in the customer service and Lack of Job this business offered. They will try to sell you anything for a crazy amount of money. Also, they NEVER checked my chart for my medical history even though i just filled it out and handed it to them. So figuring the doctor checked my chart and i just told the assistant that i was pregnant and THEY are the doctors, i went along with the exam and eye dilation. Which come to find out is NOT suggested if your PREGNANT! I'm so angry at this practice, CHECK YOUR CHARTS AND STOP BEING SO MONEY HUNGRY! I will never go back. read more

This morning I paid a 2nd visit to North Lake Optometry and was helped by Christina who had to adjust my glasses after a slight accident with a child pulling at the temples of my glasses. As I have progressive glasses, it is very tricky to adjust them so that I am not dizzy or not able to read properly. It took quite a bit of tweaking, but Christina showed a lot of patience with me and correcting my glasses. I've been going here the past few years and every time I've gone there has been a problem with them scheduling my appointment. I booked it about a month and a half ago and they cancled THE DAY BEFORE my appointment because the doctor only sees patients with my kind of insurance once a month, I then asked what the next available day was, trying to be reasonable (even though this was their mistake) and the women on the phone rudely told me not until Dec 19th and how people have been waiting over 5 months to get an appointment. Then proceded to tell me that my insurance only works one date a month here?? Uh Ive never had this problem before with my insurance so why now? Seems like a shady business with an awful doctor looking to just make money and I obviously wasn't making the cut. read more

I just moved to the Tahoe area and needed to find an eye care doctor. After calling several I decided on North Lake Eyecare Optometry. From the moment I walked in and was greeted by a happy, funny and friendly receptionist I was comfortable. They explained what would be covered by appointment, had me fill out paperwork (very easy) and then took me right in for my appointment (even though I was 15 minutes early). Doctor (Margaret) was great at explaining what my current vision quality is and the many options for selecting glasses; computer versus reading, and multi lens styles. Gee, my husband and I have never experienced what other posters have complained about. The service here has always been prompt, professional and thorough. The only reason I didn't give North Lake Eyecare 5 stars is I am a bit spoiled, having received the 'Cadillac' of eye care at UC Berkeley School of Optometry, where they take lengthy and meticulous measures to examine your eyes, a vast amount of time with frames and so forth. But really, I found the Dr. and staff to be very courteous and went out of their way to answer my questions about contacts vs glasses, computer glasses and readers, etc. As far as price, they seem about in line with other optometrists I've seen. In fact, when I told them I needed to be price-sensitve about the cost of frames, they were quick to show me their half-off frames that were quite decent - Nautica - which I used for my new prescription. read more

My wife broke the arm of her glasses while we were eating at Jake's by the Lake. She was very upset, so I was looking for an optometrist in town to do a quick fix until we could get home to AZ. We spotted North Lake Optometry and went in to see what they could do. The receptionist was very friendly and understanding, and took the glasses back to the assistant optometrist to see if they could do something. Well, not only did they replace one arm, but did both with the stock arms they had (titanium by the way, better than the original), in just a few minutes!. And they charged an extremely reasonable amount, especially considering it was a high-cost area and could easily have ripped us off. We HIGHLY recommend North Lake Optometry! read more

They were very helpful and told me I could come right in. I only waited a short time once I got there. Everyone was friendly. My husband and I have been visiting this office since they bought the business from the previous optometrist. The equipment is state of the art and the doctor is professional. The tests are well done and any problem which can not be handled (cataract issues or retinal issues) are quickly and wfficiently referred to other offices. I have total confidence in this office. Dr. Margaret is great and caring. The only reason for a four star is I feel strange about giving a Tahoe City (teeny-weeny) office five stars. read more
