I've only had a couple of ophthalmologist in my life, and I've been very lucky that they both been great. Clearly among them is Dr. Brewer at Valley eyecare and eyewear. Her staff is to be commended as they truly represent the doctors well. Hannah, who assisted with my most recent visit, listened and thought about her responses before she gave them. She explained the different exams that were going to occur and she gave me immediate results, which I appreciated. It turns out I can still see. Dr. Brewer arrived in the room with a burst of energy. She asked about how I was doing, cared about how I was doing, and then we began their exam. Like Hannah, Dr. Brewer told me what was happening. The whole time was patient as I asked silly questions and I came away with the opinion that she really did care. So, I guess you could go to the mall. But I don't think you'd get the quality care you get here. read more

Before I made an appointment with Valley Eyecare, I don't remember the last time I'd seen an optometrist for a vision examination. I'm guessing that it was 10 years or even more. I do remember the last full evaluation was done at the UC Berkeley Optometry clinic and that it was a long appointment. I've carried vision insurance for years, of which Gayle has used. But for some reason I didn't place this kind of health-related care at the same level as dental or medical. A high school friend, who is also a retired optometrist, convinced me to go, if only to confirm that I didn't have any glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataract issues. Gayle has used Valley Care and has been very happy with Dr. Brewer. So to push me along, she made that appointment for me. The only "bad" news from the appointment was that my dependence on reading glasses wasn't really enough and that I needed progressives. The good news is that my vision didn't need that much adjustment and my eye health was A-OK. What a relief! The professionals at Valley Eyecare know their business well, and I felt that I was in good hands. That included Dr. Brewer's friendly and efficient manner, and the staff that supported her work. Later on, Gayle and I stopped by to pick up the glasses we picked out, that were largely covered by insurance. The fittings went well, and all I have to do know is get used to the progressives. Maybe I'll add some prescription computer glasses later, to compliment my screen time. read more

The staff are very friendly and nice. First impression looked like a bunch of Karens but they were super helpful. After the eye exam they don't pressure you to buy glasses. The frames they offer are actually reasonably priced and have a good selection. Most eye places over charge by a huge amount but the frames I looked at seemed fair so that's not the case with them. Hopefully they keep it up. read more

Called today as a new patient hoping to get an appointment in a few weeks. To my surprise and great timing they had a cancellation today. I was impressed with my phone conversation. She was pleasant and informative. When I arrived at the office it was relaxed. Everyone ( 4 people) I spoke to was pleasant and was able to carry on a great conversation. I was seen on time. I was needing to get my eyes examined and decided not to go to the person I had seen after being told they took my insurance but didn't tell me it was as an out of network. I also wanted somewhere closer to home. I found this place on Yelp and was impressed by the reviews. I called to make an appointment but specifically asked if they were in network with my insurance. They said yes. I was able to get an appointment within a week. I arrived and was pleasantly greeted. I waited about 10 minutes before being called. The waiting couches were comfortable. The whole exam took 20-30 minutes. There was an assistant that helped. I liked her, she was sweet. I then met Dr Brewer. Wow, I loved her. Very well spoken and always paused to make sure if I had any questions. She asked permission before doing anything with my exam. I loved her so much, I wanted my daughter to have her eyes examined with her. I walked out of the exam and asked about setting an appointment for my daughter. Sheryl told me that there had been a cancellation for that very afternoon, which I took for my daughter. My daughter was very happy with her appointment and Dr. Brewer. I did need glasses. Sheryl was extremely helpful in looking for a specific type I wad looking for. I really loved one but didn't like the color. Sheryl looked it up and saw they had it in the color I wanted. She told me she would order it, unfortunately it was on back order for a couple of months. Since I was looking for a specific style, there really wasn't another pair that I was in loved with but no fault to anyone. I liked the others but didn't want to settle for anything less than I was looking for. I ended up finding a pair I loved somewhere else but again, no fault of theirs but over all I highly recommend this place! read more

On a referral made an appt with Valley Eye Care. Dr Lyons and her assistant Brooke(i think) were the bomb. So friendly and talked me thru all the tests and though everything they did. I started going to Valley Eyecare about a year and a half ago when we moved to the area on military orders. Fortunately, I only need to see them for annual check ups, but every interaction with them is a positive one. Recently, my husband and I scheduled our annual eye exams together, since we live outside of town and they were so accommodating as they knew we were tight on time and had to pick up our kids. The staff was so incredibly friendly and a pleasure to work with. Dr. Brewer was very personable and thorough in her exams. We never felt rushed with her and she really took the time to explain anything we had questions about. While I did have a slight change to my prescription and my husband received a new one, they never pressured us to buy it that day or even through them. If I could give a zero I would! Made an appointment over a month ago. Had my medical records sent to get my eyes checked for new prescription for glasses. Been wearing glasses since I was in second grade. I am not able to dilate my eyes because it causes migraines. My eye doctors over the years have never forced me to dilate my eyes. Get to the appointment and THEN am told they won't examine me because I refuse to dilate my eyes. What a waste of my time. Why wait and waste my time and tell me when I'm already seated! I would not recommend this doctor if you have any special needs. You do not have to have your eyes dilated to get your eyes checked for a glasses. I haven't my whole life and no doctor has ever forced me to in order to examine my eyes. Just a joke of a place! read more

When I came in, I was in a terrible state of mind. I had a piece of something in my eye for 4 hrs. I was miserable, could not get it out myself. They got me in right away. I have been going to Dr Lyons since moving to the Carson Valley in 2012 and I've always had great service. I visited the new office for the first time yesterday for my annual exam. Everyone is so pleasant and helpful. And knowledgeable. I had a little trouble finding them at the back of the Stratton Center, but new signage will fix that. I've been there twice for exams, and I find Dr. Brewer and her staff to be very comfortable and thorough. The only reason I did not give five stars is that I came for a short exam between annuals, and no one told me it would not be covered by my standard insurance. I did receive a discount, but was unpleasantly surprised by the bill when I usually only have a co-pay. I will continue there, but will ask next time what the charge will be. read more

Had to switch doctors after mine retired and was referred to this place. Not impressed. I want seen until almost an hour past my appointment time, then left waiting in the exam room for almost another hour. If my eyes hasn't been dilated, I would have just left. Extremely unprofessional. read more
