It can be busy on weekends though and hence less serene. If you have a dog, bring him! It's a dog friendly place but Fido must be leashed. There are other local dog parks if you want your dog to run free with his friends. This isn't that place. The view along the water is lovely and I've heard that you can go in the water as well as fish. There are about 6 miles or so of terrain to cover. Not a lot but just enough to work up a sweat and burn off some of the pandemic poundage we've gained. This park has been one in a rotation of outdoor spaces where my husband and I are spending free time as a way to get some fresh air and exercise. No permits, no fees! Just show up! Keep yourself moving. Eat less, walk more.

If you want to allow your dog off leash, Hingham will provide you with a permit. Its free to apply and they just need proof of vaccines and a homeowners' policy. It's a very quick process. I applied for mine and it was approved within 1 day. I just haven't picked it up yet. I don't plan on walking here off leash too much, but will let my dog off leash if its a quiet morning. Way worth the visit on the other side of great blue hill from the highway you walk through the golf course to the pond and a wide trail circles the whole pond. It is a 4 mile loop. The trail was really muddy when we went (November) and we didn't make it all the way around but I look forward to going again, next time we will wear hiking boots instead of sneakers. The walk through the golf course is pretty nice too the paved road for golf carts is lined in gorgeous big old maples.

There's a tiny little spot you can park right before the head of the trail but only enough for a few cars. I guess if you came and it was full you could park down the street. There is a pretty big lot there that usually has quite a few spots open. You'd have to walk a bit to the trail though. Great trail around Ponkapoag pond. My Fit bit says it was a little over 11,000 steps. Most trails are marked good. There are maps posted every so often and most have an arrow that point "you are here". I would suggest to bring a map although at the place where I started from the box holding the Maps was empty so I just took a picture of the one posted. Definitely bring bug spray! This place is loaded with bugs. I was pretty bitten up at the end of my walk. I stayed on the main trail but there were lots of small trails to go off on. I was pretty disappointed to see signage that said no bikes allowed on a lot of them though. That's a real bummer for me and my beloved mountain bike. Saw lots of beautiful birds and butterflies. Luckily I didn't run into any coyotes but just be aware that they are around. 3.5 stars.

But, there's a trail, and little carved sculptures, and furniture for giants. It gets REALLY HOT here in the summer, even on mild days, but in winter even on a mild day the wind stings you really bad. A REALLY great spot for photography, video art filming, and if you do cosplay this is a GREAT spot. Great for kids and pets also.

From the parking lot to the end and back is a 1.25 mile walk. Limited parking when people are launching bots in warmer weather. You walk along the Herring River, pass under the wind turbine out to the Marshes. Small loop and then back on the same path you walked out on. The trail opens up in one sandy spot wide enough for the dogs to run around. People are friendly and do a reasonable job picking up after their dogs.

Super beautiful great place to go on a walk, run, jog, or to go cycling. The park is quite long, it starts in Quincy/Dorcester area, goes through Milton, and I believe ends in Mattapan (Since it is a long path, I have not quite walked/cycled the whole way). On warmer days, there are more people out and about, but it doesn't feel crammed at all. Pros: - View of the water & the city depending on where you start - A few places to park your car (I normally park on the Dorcester side and have yet to see the lot completely full) - There are a few athletic fields so could be a great place to play some ball Cons: - There is almost always dog poop in the grassy area so be careful about where you step & if you are considering a picnic I would carefully inspect the floor before laying claim to a piece of grass.

But after going today with my (almost) 2 Y.O., I realized its not really suitable for a toddler thats just learning how to maneuver the Slides & climbing things... The ground was that rubbery surface, but if he fell he was going to hurt himself & the slides are really high & he has no concept of slow down or be careful... So it is a beautiful place for walks or flying a kite, but the playground is for older kids... Other than that a great place to visit!

I have a 7 year old daughter and 2 year old son - we visited today (Dad too) and had a spectacular time. Definitely recommend on a hot day for the splash pad. Only concern with the playground is it doesn't have a fence. The playground surface is accessible - almost feels springy under your feet.

Was out driving around today looking for someone for the kids to play & randomly saw this park…read more.. Decided to pull in & give it a try... Its probably the best park I have seen/been to this summer... They had so many different little stations. They even have this Music area where there are drum like pedestals that when you bang on make music & big chime like things you can bang hammers off to make noise... it was super cool! There are several slides, plank like walking pedestals & monkey bars.. There is a sprinkler section... There are tons of Picnic tables under a covered roof to hide in the shade, you even have to walk over a bridge to get there... Kinda cool! Only downside, no close bathroom & its woodchips which I admit is great for when kids fall, but horrible for women in flip flops! Will defintely be coming back.
