A negligent company that ignores their clients in a crisis. More attention goes to the receptionist who brings her child to work rather than someone struggling. Very very very disgusted about the "talk therapy " and psychiatric care that I "received" there all to be medically Abandoned by my therapist (after 2.5 years) during an extremely hard time in my life. Before seeking care in another state, I was enrolled in PHP and inpatient. During PHP MY insurance cleared me to see my Op however she refused , claiming i need higher level of care while she knew i was being pushed aside at PHP. Psychiatrist (Nicole) was very negligent and lacked responses on multiple occasions- nevermind my electronic chart was not updated regarding medications I was actually taking. "Dr T" prescribed me a medication without having my blood tested, even though that's the "typical practice" and my former OP tried discharging me through my hospital social worker while I was in inpatient (after returning zero calls to my inpatient team throughout the week) instead of talking to me directly. When I was heart broken by this, my mother tried intervening by calling the office to see what is happening. My mother was ignored as well. Go somewhere else. Went for marriage counseling, plus my wife was seeing another individual counselor here. At a one-on-one session with our couple's counselor, counselor told me something rather crucial about his belief about my wife's mental health, but later denied to my wife that he said it. In her mind, why would our counselor lie? So I must be the liar. I confronted this counselor about it over the phone. He refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing and accused her and I of triangulating, making him the victim! I tried to arrange a meeting with my wife, our counselor, and his supervisor in order to discuss what was going on. The meeting was tentative until I could be sure my wife would come to it (it would have been pointless to have it without her, as I was attempting to both hold him accountable and show her that I was not the liar here). I never got my wife to agree, so date was never finalized. However, I got a letter stating that I had missed the appointment. Then I found out that my wife was told by her other counselor that I didn't show up to this meeting and that she was never supposed to be part of that meeting. Her counselor may have got bad info, but she never should have been involved in the first place. So when my spouse was already having trust issues, this place sure supported and reinforced that for her! I can't get her away from there as she's still seeing a counselor there, although a different one. And I'm watching them continue to destroy our marriage as they reinforce all of her negative feelings, whether they are based in the reality of things or not. Update to my recent struggles with the Billing dept ot this Center. Four phone calls so far, no return calls from owner, Jeff Cilkis. Always out of the office and no back up billing person. Billed for things that did not happen. Begging for a return call, and nothing. Been trying to discuss my bill since 8-9-18. Worst customer service I've seen in a long time. No reflection on the therapist at all. She was great. read more

My problems happened a year ago today. Took me all this time to leave the review. I had been going here since April 4th 2016 trying to get medication for my anxiety and panic attack disorder. It's mandatory you have to see a talk therapist 3 times before you see the medication doctor. I jumped their hoops. I went over 8 times since April 4th. After my 3rd visit they told me that the medication doctor was full and was not accepting new patients until July but I would have to keep seeing the therapist until that time. They told me a YEAR AGO today the medication doctor is not allowing me into the "medication clinic" and they would NOT give me a reason. The office manager says because they are a private facility they are not required to give me a reason. They waited 4 months to tell me this information. 4 months of counseling that I did NOT need. All that office visit money, wheelchair transport van money to get there, being accompanied by a Home Health Aide money. Your tax dollars hard at work. I had been there 2 years before this. Every time I would meet with the med doctor he would ask if I was depressed at all. My answer was always NO. I had asked for a copy of my medical records and I looked at all the doctors notes. On every visit page he wrote down along the lines that patient said she was very depressed. On every visit page he lied. Those are perm med records and he lied on every single one. I wouldn't have known it if I hadn't asked for the records. I guess he needed to justify why he was prescribing what he was at the time. I was wrongly diagnosed as being bi-polar and this office did NOT catch that. I knew I was not bi-polar so I never took the meds and flushed em down the toilet. That could have changed the chemistry of my brain. All I needed was anxiety meds. If you work or have a real life other than being mentally unstable you will find it difficult using this office. Before you leave the office they will schedule an appointment for you. If you say you will be on vacation or you have another doctors appointment and need another day the BIG lady at the front desk freaks out. We cant do that. You have to take this day. "Your gonna run out of meds". (but lady I'm flushing them I don't care...she had no idea I said this in my head) Like pulling teeth every single visit. Then with the wheel chair vans it has to be scheduled at a certain time. They are not big on accommodating you. Even if your disabled and have ADA laws behind you. No more pill mills for me. No more mandatory counseling either. A nurse will be coming to the home instead for me to scribe my meds. So much easier. Since I'm disabled I was able to sign up for One Care. Thank goodness. No more 2 appointments a month for panic meds ....every month for the rest of my life....no way. Glad I finally got out of that game. read more

Finally got my file after NCSS "termination:" - As a longtime public caregiver, with a master's in psychology from a very prominent university, and being from a doctor's family, I feel obligated to warn the public that this place may do you more harm than good, as was the case with me. The world would probably be a better place if this outfit would close permanently, TODAY. - The written termination "reasons" given were wrong and not corrected. - The billing was wrong and not corrected. To their credit though, after I sent a CERTIFIED letter, they wiped out my balance due. - The critical medical records, with very sketchy medical history and only one of my medications listed out of several for different physical and mental, were totally inadequate, and not corrected. They clearly didn't care what illness I had and what I was taking for it. - Some of the written mental assessments listed for me were just plain wrong. Contrary to what the 1st LSW wrote, I am intelligent and entirely cogent. I really wish I had been given a chance to assess THEM. - The subspecialties I requested in a therapist were wholly absent. It was a waste of my time. - The first LSW inquired into my religious belief system and practices, and wanted to DEBATE me about it. - She also wanted me to discuss details of old traumas at our first nuts-and-bolts INTAKE session, which was totally inappropriate, and made a written mistaken judgment about my partial avoidance of delving into that. That isn't what the big-picture intake appointment is for. - Everything about my 2 (3 counting Intake) sessions with 2 LSWs there seemed careless, and without caring, oriented toward collecting just enough weird data in order to justify prescribing more pills, without even knowing what I was already taking--NOT releasing/relieving the emotional distress of a human being through talking, which is allegedly the entire purpose of their being there. - To top it all off, just before our current situation was declared a pandemic, they wrote me up and repeatedly questioned me for having crazy, "noteworthy" behavior because when I went there the first time with a cold, I wore an over-the-counter mask over my mouth and nose. They had zero antibacterial tools--no tissues, sanitizer, gloves, masks--at their front desk in their lobby, with mixed physically sick and well people. - JUST DON'T GO! read more

Hmmm.. The staff at the front desk are awesome.. the place itself is comfortable, and my therapist, Jasmine, is phenomenally awesome. I can't speak for the other professionals there since I only deal with one therapist. The owner though, OMFG does he have some anger issues and a superiority complex.. Money-hungry liars who take advantage of poor pregnant women! This was a horrible experience for me. I saw Melissa Moorehouse for about 10 months (throughout most of my pregnancy), and I came out worse than I went in. This was the turning point for me and seeking help from therapists. You will not be treated not as an individual here, but as a case number. The front desks gives you a form to sign that is not in layman's terms. They tell you that it is no big deal and that it is just for filing purposes. DO NOT SIGN THIS! I was referred to NSCC after my second hospitalization for depression. I was strongly advised to see a therapist once or twice each week. I had been receiving therapy from my psychiatric nurse who also prescribed my medications. I had been seeing her for 8 years and found her therapy very helpful. However, since she could only see me once per month, I agreed to follow the hospital's advice and go see a therapist weekly. By doing this, I had could no longer receive therapy from my nurse, only meds. My nurse encouraged me to give it a try, so I did. I do not know about the other therapists there, but Melissa did not seem qualified to treat depression and/or severe anxiety. I basically went to vent, talk about my problems, and Melissa just listened and validated. She provided no help for advice or input. I stuck it out, however, hoping things would get better. I stayed positive. Then the copay incident occurred, which was the turning point. A few months into my therapy, I received a notice from my insurance stating that I had reached my copay max for the year and no longer had to pay copays for the rest of the year (this was in October). I gave this letter to the front desk for them to make a copy. I had been paying my copays religiously up until that point. Come January, since it was a new year, I figured I had to start paying copays again. At my first appointment of the new year, I went to the front desk and offered my copay. The receptionist (long light brown hair) told me I no longer had to pay copays. THIS IS THE TRUTH. I was very confused, because the letter from my insurance company stated I was only exempt from copays through the end of the year. I asked if she was sure, and, staring at her computer screen, she again told me I did not have to pay copays anymore. So I left it at that. For the next six months, I did not pay copays per her instruction. Then, 2 weeks before my due date, out of the blue, a different receptionist (blonde hair) told me that I owed $250 in copays. I started to panic. Financial hardship had always been one of the causes of my anxiety, and Melissa knew this. Melissa came out to calm me down. She told me it was a mistake and that I did not have to pay that. So I went with her and had our session, though I was still very troubled about what had just happened. After I left I called to make sure I did not owe all that money. The receptionist claimed that I did owe that money in copays for all my therapy sessions in the last 6 months. When I told her that I had tried to pay, and the other receptionist assured me that I did not have to pay copays, she did not believe me. I told her I would not be returning to NSCC, and I asked to speak with the director. He basically implied that I was lying, that none of his "girls" would say such a thing. He was cold and apathetic. I asked, if I was supposed to be paying copays, why had no one simply asked for it at any of my previous visits during the last six months?? He said they had asked me, because that was what he train his "girls" to do. I told him I was about to have a baby, I was not working at the time, and I could not afford the balance. He did not care. He said that when I signed that FORM (yes, the form that is practically in another language) at the beginning of every session, I agreed to pay all copays. I told him he was being very cold and rude, and he told me I was being abusive. I told him that I would not be returning to NSCC, and hung up. Then I left a message for Melissa informing her the same. At my next meeting with my psychiatric nurse, she told me that Melissa had called her and told her that I left NSCC without "terminating." I did not know what that meant, and neither did she, since I had notified Melissa, the receptionist, AND the director that I would not be returning to NSCC. What did she mean by "terminate"?!? Did she want a notarized letter?!? I realized I was not getting anywhere with these people. They were the ones who made the mistake, but instead they placed all the blame on me. They made my mental health worse, which is not good for a woman who is about to have a baby. They keep the mindset that too many mental healthcare providers keep: that depressed people are crazy, and crazy people lack the abilities to think rationally, remember things correctly, and tell the truth. Sorry folks, but us depressed individuals can do all of those things, and we are not crazy. read more

I must admit it's a challenge for me to even designate a single star in review of my experience at North Shore Counseling. My son was a client here following an in-patient stay at a teen crisis / sucide prevention center, in great need of counseling and I was appreciative to have the help. The receptionist is AWESOME (Kezia: Five Stars!), not only impressive professionally, but she reached out to my son personally as well every time we came in. The owner / director that stands authoritatively at the other end of the reception desk wreaks of bad vibes without having to say a word. When he did finally contribute to the conversation regarding our particular issues, he was unfriendly at best and without compassion. In all fairness, I will say the counselor my son met with was very professional, honestly concerned, pro-active and made enormous effort to coordinate communications with other professionals we have seen over the past number of weeks (school guidance, the Lahey Clinic Crisis Center, etc.). The poor kid has been bounced around all over the place, which continues to this date. I was generally pleased to have him a setting where he was able to recieve prefessional care, with the exception of a somewhat abrupt insinuation / guilt trip (although a fair observation) that my son had assumed enormous power over our household which was apparent to us all (by the nature of his clear, repeated threats to take his own life: so, ok: I'll give you what you want in an effort to keep you with us!). When I was informed by my son that he didn't quite feel a "click" in the chemistry while meeting with his counselor, I felt obligated on his behalf to express that concern, but after a fully complimentary preface regarding the work that had been accomplished to date along with my apology. But when I cancelled a second time the day of our appointment (yup, my bad, but I could no longer sustain the battle to make him go), we were informed of their decision to discontinue his file (what!). With the indication that he requires a level of care they simply do not provide, which I certainly don't contest, but was a pretty clear shove-out-the-door that just did not sit well with me. Anyway, after a calm, cool and collected discussion with one of the administrative directors, and a genuine concern they were not serving the best interests of my son, we left the office with no open door or specifically no introduction to work with perhaps another counselor on their staff. OK, so they suggest another in-patient visit which I informed them had in fact been arranged, but following his next in-patient stay, we now have the task of finding another therapist to assist our family in helping my son. Seems pretty simple to me they could have just parked him with somebody else to provide the continuity that we are longing for, but no. I'm now quite convinced that we're much better off finding another therapist elsewhere, but I seemingly cannot avoid the interpretation my son has made that he's a problem child that North Shore Counseling felt the need to dismiss. ouch - read more

I have been seeing the same Psychologist for about one year at NSCC and cant say a bad word about this place. Everyone there has been very nice to me. The office is easy to find and there's plenty of parking. All around very good experience. read more
