From the second I walked in the door, everyone was very caring, I feel staff treats everyone like they are part of the family, I had to go to the hospital the other day and everyone was so helpful. This place is absolutely the best facility that I have ever been to (out of the other 8 I have been to). I know everyone has different experiences, but this place has AMAZING STAFF who whole heartedly care about you and will help you with anything you need. Serenity made it very easy to get and stay clean. I met with the Dr. and Councilor about every weekday to confirm how I was feeling/how the medication was working. They stress that they are not keeping you against your will. You may leave at any time but of course the staff will try to talk you out of it because they truly care. It is the same as going to any Dr.s Office, yes you pay for your own transportation to and from, however all meals and snacks are provided. Meetings are held every couple of hours and your able to go outside after each group and meal. I love that they use a tapering system and they don't wait for you to be in agony like a lot of other places where you're ready to pass out before they will give you meds (i.e. Spectrum). read more

Now I don't want to be totally negative, but I wouldn't recommend this place unless it's a last resort. Some of the staff are good people but most are there collecting a paycheck. The place is a money mill since the new owners took over. I was admitted several times for detox, never did I meet with a councilor, but my insurance was billed. My last visit there they discharged me against doctors' orders after 8 days; they tossed me out in the rain with no way to get home. I told them at admission I could stay for 5 days as my disabled wife was alone and I'm her caregiver; they wouldn't let me leave and talked me into staying longer. Anyway, when I finally said I can't stay any longer they treated me like dirt. All they care about is money, once they have your insurance info they won't let go. Some of the staff are good, the problems are with the people at the top. PS, the only thing the so called doctor at this place has ever been addicted to is jelly doughnuts. My advice is STAY AWAY. I picked up a family member after three wasted weeks. I cannot stress how much I do NOT recommend this place for mental health!! They were originally staying for a 4th week, but we made the decision to end the program early. Serenity might be effective at detox/substance abuse, but it was detrimental for his mental health recovery. It lacks the resources to support mental health. Unfortunately, we had to spend $22,000 to find that out. I can't express how much I do NOT recommend this place!! The first red flag was the no-visitation policy (McLean's allows visits). The program was described as having full days of therapy and beneficial activities. there's almost NO 1-on-1 counseling!! My family member was bored throughout the day. Group sessions often devolved into complaints about the food and disorganization of med distribution. Mental health and detox patients were treated the same. The gym was small and "dirty", and the patients had limited access. The first roommate that they were assigned to was violent, someone that everyone was afraid of. We were told that private rooms were available, but that wasn't the case upon arrival. When you make a phone inquiry about Serenity, you're actually connected to a FL sales team. They're very persuasive and clearly more concerned about enrollment than care quality. There was also a lack of consistency in case management. Tons of turnover with employees!! It often took multiple calls and days before anyone would respond to us. We truly hoped this would be the right resource, but instead it caused a significant setback. My family member now has overwhelming hopelessness. We read similar reviews to this one on google too. Please reconsider before sending a loved one here for mental health!! read more

I received treatment at Serenity and just came home after about four weeks. First off I want to clarify everyone's experience here may be different depending on how much effort you put in. I was recently in the mental health part of the building and the other people I met were the driving factor of my recovery.I saw Jack the therapist almost every day and he was very understanding and helpful with providing coping mechanisms and alternatives to my negative emotions and actions. He gave me tasks to complete and something to look forward to. Rob had multiple meeting throughout my stay and with the experience he had throughout life he was about to be relatable and compassionate. He helped the day go by faster and always strived to get more people in groups. The staff was all very understanding towards my struggles and every single one was willing to sit down and talk if I needed it. The food was also very good and balanced and made my stay feel a bit more like home. In the end I actually wanted to stay longer because of the community I developed while being there and it will always be a positive experience in my life. First off, I own my own business so before I went to Serenity I called and asked to make sure that I could make phone calls to my customers and subcontractors to keep things moving while I was away. They said that I could. I asked if I could have access to a computer so that I could read and respond to work emails. They said over the phone that they were not sure about that but they would see what they could do. In the detox portion under no circumstances are you allowed to make or accept phone calls. Your mother could be on her death bed and you would not be allowed to talk to her. I've been to a number of different detox and rehab facilities and I've never been to one where you were not allowed to make calls. One that I went to allowed me only 15 minute calls but I could check in on things as I needed to. I also told them that I have a business to run so I need to go home after 7 days at the most. -I was only there for detox; not rehab. They said that was fine. That is what I told my customers. I consider McLean Hospital (a non-profit) to be the gold standard for detox and aftercare. They recommend 5-7 days depending on how bad of shape you are when you arrive for detox. Unfortunately I changed my insurance and was unable to go to McLean. I was not in bad shape when I got to Serenity. The only time that I spoke with the doctor, he said I needed to stay for 7-8 days. They obviously want you to stay there as long as possible because they are a for-profit business and they want to make more money. Someone else said that they charge $3,000 per day. I felt well after 5 days and would have been comfortable leaving but I think 6 days would have been ideal. After 6 days I told them that I felt great and was ready to call for a ride home. They told me that I could not use the phone and had to stay for 7-8 days. After that they wanted me to stay for more treatment that lasts 30-90 days. I started to really fight with them and said that they cannot keep me there against my will without an opportunity for a phone call. They said that I could leave but they would not give me any of my belongings if I left against clinician's advice. That means no cell phone, no credit cards or cash and no jacket or any of my clothes, and no opportunity to call for a ride. They said that if I left I couldn't return for my things for 72 hours. I asked them if they would mail them to me and they said that I would have to come back to get them (a 1 1/2 hour ride). Of course there is no longer public pay phones and the facility is in an industrial neighborhood so I would have to walk like a mile in the cold and ask people at retail locations if I could use their phone. Then I would have to call the police to get my possessions back and it would have been a huge pain in the ass. I had heard that other people had left and got the police involved to get their possessions returned. It was like I was in prison. When you get there you are assigned a clinician and/she is supposed to give you individual therapy. I did not meet my clinician until I started to complain about wanting to leave. Every time I spoke with her she was confrontational and adversarial to me. I never got any therapy from her. After I left her office once she called my mother who is 82. I am 54. She asked my Mom to try to convince me to stay. My Mom told them that she needed my help at her house and wanted to come and pick me up. They said they were going to go and find me so that she could talk to me and that they would call her back. They never did. She tried calling my clinician a number of times but only got her voicemail and none of her calls were returned. After being there for 7 days I told them that the doctor said I could leave after 7 or 8 days. They put the full court press on me with 4 clinicians in the room. I got there on a Thursday and it was Wednesday. They said that I had only been there for 5 days. I counted the days off. First off they said that it wasn't Wednesday, it was Tuesday. They all seemed to agree. I was like, "Are you guys kidding? Look at your f*****g cell phones.!". They admitted that it was actually Wednesday but by their calculations I had only been there for 6 days because the day I arrived did not count. One day I met with two clinicians; one who I had never met. They told me that they could make way more money doing other things but they wanted to help people like me and that was why they did the job. One guy, who I had met for the first time about 5 minutes earlier told me, "There are people here that love you more than you love yourself." -Right buddy. He didn't know me at all. I found out later that it was the last day for the other clinician. He had found a better job elsewhere. read more

I was very disappointed in this facility. They were very accommodating initially. My daughter's therapist and case worker each gave me their phone extensions and were very reassuring about me contacting them whenever I had questions or concerns. Once my daughter decided not to stay there for the additional time they recommended, it was impossible to get through to her, them, or anyone else. I tried on and off for a full week, only to be met with constant busy signals on her therapist's line, phone going dead when I tried to connect to receptionist, and a recording from an unknown person when I tried to call her case worker. It was EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. I can't imagine that it's this difficult for everyone - especially those interested in continuing treatment at Serenity - to get through to a human voice. It was almost as though I was blocked after they couldn't convince my daughter to stay on. They did insist she stay one extra day for no valid reason -- maybe because it brought her insurance into the next monthly billing cycle. I would never recommend this place. It really seems like it's all about the money with them. read more

Worst place I have every been. They almost killed me. I ended up in the hospital with my throat closing, after 18 hours of asking to go from swelling of my face and tongue. My clinician didn't talk to me. They will not help with after care unless you stay there for after care. All about money. It's $3000 a day to be tortured. Forget that. Some stay need to quit also. I had one nurse say for there days. I had the back surgeries and I don't use drugs. I don't need to hear that crap. And they don't do methadone at all! read more

My son has been there for a week and so far I could not be more pleased. They keep in touch with me and have been very helpful and supportive through the whole process. His therapist is an angel and really cares about the well being of others. I was lost and not knowing where to turn. This is our first time with rehab, and when researching and reading reviews on all of the different places, it was really quite scary knowing how to choose the correct one. I hope someone in need reads this and it helps them to know that this place is amazing and I am so thankful we found them. read more
