Book the Hawaiian Foodie Bike Tour!…read more My wife and I recently rode this tour w guide Kelly Beck and had a delicious and filling time. Location: mainly Kapahulu Ave. and Monsarrat Ave., we often rode on the sidewalk which felt awkward to me but was safer than riding w busy traffic. Parking: we met our guide in the parking lot of Kapiolani Park, near the zoo, along Kapahulu Ave. Free parking and away from the crowds. Our guide: Kelly Beck. He was great - friendly, enthusiastic, and informative. He used a wireless speaker system, he had the microphone on his shirt and each of us had a wireless speaker attached to the handlebars of our bikes. We've been on other bike tours that didn't use this tech, using it enabled us to easily hear what he was saying as he led us. He's a former endurance athlete but the tour was easy - flat and low speed w frequent stops. Gear: - city bikes w multiple gears, fenders, good brakes, and clean. Each had a pouch in front to store stuff. - he supplied us w 3 large bottles of water, more than enough. - helmets: we previously told them I need an XL helmet for my big head and they remembered, it was a clean comfortably fitting helmet. This is where we went: -Diamond Head Market & Grill, Monsarrat Ave., *good, so good we returned for dinner: - miso ginger salmon, wasabi ahi, good sauce -South Shore Grill, was closed, fish tacos -ARS Cafe, coffee shop/food, we took a look inside -Rainbow Drive-In, just looked -Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts, literally thousands of Aloha shirts, the racks were stuffed! -Da Ono: good lunch of lau lau, haupia, ube -Ono Seafood: we shared a small portion of poke (we had high expectations for this place but the poke was so-so) -Wailoa Shave Ice for a shave ice for each of us. -Leonard's! We each had a malasada, freshly fried and warm, yum. We rode through the the neighborhood on our return to the parking lot. Kelly gave us commentary on the houses, real estate, trees/plants, and the local customs and news. We're glad we booked this tour.

He was so kind to help my older mom, a beginner on a bike become comfortable and confident. He even asked people to move for her on the bike trail as she was wobbly and nervous. It's obvious the restaurants know and love him as well as his customers. I admit I am a food snob and the food choices were mind blowing- I mean just superb. But his history lessons, jovial personality and the fact that he altered the distance for my mom is just so considerate. Thank you Kelly.

It is such a relaxing ride along the coast as the waves crash along the shore and the breeze off the ocean keeps us cool. I wrote in the time that I wanted to start which was 1230 pm. I show up at 1230 exactly and go to check in at the outpost Hut. The 2 guys inside the Hut tell me they didn't see my reservation and they rented out all their balls to a group that just came in..... So...we had to WAIT until the group was finished to get the balls to play.... On top of that, I paid $10 per person to play, and the guy in the hut tells me there's only 6 or 7 holes available since they use the course to pop fireworks off of. New years was about a week ago!! You're telling me, you're too lazy to put back the holes for a whole week?! Cmon man..... Then, I ask for a cart to put all our stuff in and he tells me that they don't rent out carts but that I could get one at the golf hut. So my mom walks all the way over to the golf hut for them to tell her that they don't rent out golf carts for soccer golf......?! So then after all of this, the guy in the outpost hut tells me he will refund me the balls we rented as a way to make up the unfinished course and the time we had to wait for the balls to come back. That was nice of them.....except for the fact that he didn't do it!!! He was straight up lying. Bc i kept checking my account and I didn't see no refund pending from them.... So I waited 2-3 days then I finally call them back checking up on the refund. Explain the whole thing and I'm pretty sure the guy who answered the phone was the same guy who told me he would refund it to me the day of my reservation! So he puts me on hold and tells me that a manager has to be the one to refund me. So why did that guy in the outpost hut tell me he was refunding me if he really wasn't?!?! To top it all off, the course looks like crap. And they don't even have a score card to give you. Good thing I took a picture of their somewhat course layout so I knew where the heck I was going. The course is literally just grass that is so overgrown and bumpy that you cannot even call it foot golf. Save yourself time and don't go here.

Will is a good guy and Velohana has a small selection of enthusiast-driven products and brands for shoes, gear, and obviously bikes. What fell short for me was trustworthy service for the money. He's a one-man shop which is commendable, but when you have customers and a fitting going on, one or both suffers in that time. Bike fitting was okay, but what fell short for me was the given expectation of a pro-level bike fitting for the majority. We had a decent fitting, checked all the measurements for stack, reach, seeing my level of athleticism, but nothing that went too physiologically in-depth. We checked my foot sizing but only measured my left foot. We didn't explore different insole supports or varying q-factor. We did not look at any possibly leg length discrepancy. We used the existing saddle that I had only and did not swap with others to explore saddle options. From the bike fitting, I went for a 2-hour ride and started to feel the same pains that I had before. Was there really a point to getting a fit from here? What really frustrated me was when we settled on best changes to make, we had to change parts on the bike. I left the bike in the shop and upon receiving it, the chain pops off the front derailleur within my first ride. This did not happen with my previous tune. Ok, maybe there was a little adjustment to be made. My original white bar tape he said was taped wrong and badly. Thanks for noticing my work, sir. When I received it, the black bar tape was wrapped inwards instead of outwards. There was a lot of little snobbish comments about how my bike was originally setup (handlebars, bar tape, saddle choice, condition and authenticity of parts.) In service, you would never accuse something having fake parts without actual proof. Coming back, Will believes my REAR DERAILLEUR is causing the chain to pop off and I most likely have counterfeit parts causing the issue. There was no checking if it had an alignment issue from the dropouts other than a visual check. His recommendation was to replace the RD to fix my FD chain popping off issue... I'm quite dumbfounded and regret giving the go-ahead to swap the part. He's a parts replacer, not a mechanic. To me, I figure to give this review a thorough attempt so others don't go through the same thing, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and we swap the part. Ride the bike a second time, same issue. In 10 minutes, the chain pops off going up the big chain ring and now there's light rubbing when in the easiest gears. It actually got worse! At this point, I'm no longer returning to the shop for service. Upon inspection of the front derailleur, the FD was out of parallel to the large chainring and the H screw was too far in to make a smooth shift after I made those adjustments, we are all good.

My husband and I went to their farm tour on a Saturday morning and it was so much fun. Their hospitality and kindness is truly unmatched and we felt that even before we got there. We were having some issues with our rental car that we weren't sure if we were going to make it. But when I called they were so accommodating and helpful. What started as a rough morning turned into the highlight of our trip. The farm is owned and operated by a family that pours so much love and hard work into these flowers. They shared a vast amount of knowledge about the beautiful plumeria that had us taking personal notes we just didn't want to forget. At the end of the tour you get to immerse yourself and walk through the plumeria that overlook an amazing view of the North Shore shoreline. If you are a lover of the Plumeria or just want to learn and smell the most beautifully fragrant flower there is please make this farm a stop the next time you're in Oahu.
