I really hate to make a negative review at a place where the employees truly went above and beyond friendliness and helpfulness, but I've got to be honest about my experience here. Note we had a young child with us, and I likely would have toughed it up and dealt with a lot of the issues if I'd traveled alone or just with my husband, but we had a 4 year old with us. Note also a lot of our disappointment was out of their direct control, but the entire experience was a let down either way. We checked in to our caboose cabin. We were led through the park which looked predominantly occupied by full time residents, which was odd and kind of gave the feel that I paid $500 to "camp" in a trailer park. Again, we didn't meet a sour soul there, but it looked awfully crowded and some "properties / campsites" just looked a bit junky. Although they're clearly making updates to the cabins, the massive climate control systems aren't currently hooked up, so when it's 95° outside there's a little window unit working with all its might to cool the caboose down, but it's just not getting there. The inside of the cabin was clean and really cute. Just boiling hot. So we go to the lake to cool off, but the water is the temperature of warm bath water. Not their fault. The water at the designated beach was kind of murky with old wooden posts sticking up in a few places that made me cautious about walking more than a few feet from the beach. So we didn't stay long and head back to the cabin, head out to dinner. I know this next part is out of their control, but a huge storm came through and knocked out the power for the area and there was damage in the vicinity. A falling branch came within feet of hitting my vehicle, and a larger branch fell on top of their nature center, just from what I saw. But while all the RVs had generators going, we were without power.. or water. The sink and toilet couldn't be used, no power meant the temperature was rising again inside the cabin, and while opening the door provided some relief, there were mosquitoes aplenty. I tried opening a window but somehow brought down the blinds in the process. We waited about 2 hours, but my toddler wasn't going to hang. I packed the car in the dark and rain and headed home. Again, I could have made it work solo, but it was an overall disappointment with my son there. I'm hoping to get a refund for at least part of my stay, as again, the prices paid for the cabin alone vs. overall aesthetic of the park was immediately disappointing. read more

Last minute booking to this site. The whole campground is railroad themed. Which is fun. However it really Rundown. Some camping spots were better than others. We had our camper under a tree that drops nuts on the fall. LOUD. The campsite itself the power pole was not working properly. The whole campground was loud and noisy. I didn't have a good view of the lake, so pick a good spot. The bathrooms were kind of far. 1 of the 2 pools was actually working which was nice, but it was freezing water. Someone said they just filled it. Didn't matter. This made the whole camping at this KOA worth it. They had a movie night and kids crafts and the club house. It looks like they have several long term campers with yards of junk. Kinda trailer park trashy. read more

Place is great. There is some remodeling going on, which is a plus. 14 November so it's quiet and serine. Hookups for RV and campers are easy access and plenty of space. Staff is beyond helpful and very, very friendly. Will definitely come back. read more

For us, the draw was to sleep in a caboose. Our son loves trains so we were excited. We quickly learned that the cabooses are falling apart. Each caboose has its own deck. Our deck had the paint flaking off and exposed, rusty nails right at toddler height. Our door also wouldn't lock. The good news is the property was responsive and resolved both issues quickly, but these were obvious avoidable issues. The family at the caboose next to us were upgraded because their hot water didn't work. In addition, the maintenance men said the cabooses were in bad shape and were falling apart. Finally, the pool had hundreds of bugs in it. I'm not exaggerating. Me and another customer spent about 40 minutes using the pool net to get rid of the bugs. It was gross. It's a shame this place doesn't take care or replace things because the location is fantastic. read more

It's not often that we have left a campground because our site was unacceptable. Our RV is on a mud and light gravel hill, we don't have room for our rugs, chairs or a picnic table. Our steps out our door are 2' off the ground. We had to use a step ladder to reach our step and it was slanted on the hill and very scary to come down. I went to the office, explained all of this and asked the manager nicely for one of the 50 amps that were from a list of about 20 that I had catalogued on my phone. She didn't even look at my list but looked on her computers and said there was only 1 more option for us and gave me that site number to look at. Same problem, our sewer hose would be uphill and the site was just wet dirt, not even or any gravel, much less concrete pad. There were several nice 50 amp sites on my list that vacant. Are they "saving" them for someone special? I'm special! Lol. Great thing about your home being on wheels, if you don't like your neighbor, site, or park management you can leave. Not very impressed. Very small spaces with only very little room to hang out outside. We didn't realize it was Mayfly season and this place was infested with mayflies. Pools are decent and little beach area is OK. Bath house looks partially renovated but zero hot water the entire time no matter what time of the day we went. Putt putt course is unusable and there really isn't a great playground...just a couple of very small ones. Apparently this place was a KOA and is in the process of transferring over to Travel Resorts of America. read more

I am giving a 1 star because there was no way to give a negative star. My husband and I drive down from South Carolina to listen to a presentation for possible membership to this resort. Using the term resort tongue in cheek. Once we determined it was not for us due to high cost and annual fees we were quickly ushered out. Insult to injury the so called gifts are nonething but additional ways for them to change you money. My advice to everyone is steer clear of this place. The website advertises a nice place to stay with mini golf, 2 swimming pools, hot showers, and free WiFi. After checking in we were told that both of the swimming pools and the mini golf were not open due to maintenance. We were also told the WiFi was also not working. We were given a RV lot near a restroom which we thought was good until we realized it put off a strong fever odor. The restroom didn't appear to be cleaned our entire stay even though we seen employees in golf carts pulling up to it many times through out the days. We will not be staying here again. read more

Condescending staff who seemed to be watching myself and cocampers the entire time we stayed there. Keep in mind that we were well behaved, quiet and clean. Gave one star because the bathrooms and showers were well maintained and the pool we went to was in good shape. Rent campsites are all on a hill (except for the actual gravel area where you pitch your tent) so you're constantly walking on uneven ground to go up a steep hill to your car and slanted ground down to your firepit or to the water. Also, I understand that this is the woods and there are bugs but there were insane amounts of cockroaches at night at the tent sites. I'm wondering if there is not anything that can be done to make it less of an infestation... read more

This is now a KOA and it's the least nice koa we've ever been to. All the playgrounds, laundry, mini golf, etc are extremely run down. We reserved a site near the playground for $41/night and they ended up putting us on the water (super pretty but not ideal with the kids) and charged us $70/night. We did get a refund after two visits to the office. Overall I'm very unimpressed. read more

Worst camping experience ever!!!!! I had 2 camp sites reserved next to each other and they changed one of them to the other side of the campground and then blamed me for it saying I must have changed it. 4 of the 7 bathrooms were out of order and 2 of those didn't lock. In the 4 days I was there no paper towels or soap was restocked so you couldn't wash your hands and it appeared they had not been cleaned either. Everything seems to be out of order or in such bad condition it was unusable. One of the staff members was extremely rude to some kids playing at the pool while we were there. They we not hurting anything or being a problem for anyone else. Their parents were there and he should have spoke to them not reprimanded the kids. The parents handled it well because I believe that guy and I would have had to have a closed door discussion. They boast 2 pools but one is out of order. The camp sites are so tight it is very difficult to get your camper in and out. No room for cars in the camp site so you have to park up the street a few hundred yards. Our camp sites were full of ants. We had to drive to the store and get ant poison to treat the area. The paperwork they give you says that for $10 you can get a late checkout but they don't honor that. The office staff says that if you check out late it is an automatic charge of another day's rental. This is just one example of where the employees refereed to the manager's rules which are different than what is written. While I was there I had to walk up to the dumpster twice which is at the park exit. On both occasions staff passed me on golf carts but never offered to take it or give me a ride and they were heading right past the dumpster (it was in the high 90's). The putt putt golf course is unusable, the beach area is filthy, one of our camp sites was full of thick red clay which got all over everything and the entire camp ground is in just bad repair. Another person camping and I had a discussion of all the problems he an I were having. He spoke to someone and they said they were going to come talk to me. They passed me on golf carts no less than 10 times but they never stopped. I would avoid this place like the plague! Not all the staff are horrible but the managements horrible leadership and management abilities show in everything about this place. And to the owners and management... you should be ashamed to operate such a poor quality place, it's a disgrace! read more
