This Inn has 3 floors with about 18 guest rooms on the first and half of the second floor. Other units are private residences with the third floor a private penthouse. Our room was very spacious with a seating area in front of the TV and had a gas fireplace, ceiling fan, and balcony. Nice spacious bathroom with a waterfall shower head. The front desk had a good supply of chocolate cookies, warm and crispy. Yum Yum. They have basic breakfast options but we chose to walk 3 blocks to Betty Genes for a full breakfast. Also, The Sinclair is a great option for specialty coffees & light breakfast. This is a great option for a nice stay in this beautiful antebellum Southern city. read more

Cindy greeted us at the desk and Ashley gave us a lovely tour. We saw the regular rooms, as well as a suite. Extremely cozy and clean and inviting. I stayed in the Joshua Hill suite on the 2nd floor and it was incredible! It was the size of a small apartment with all the comforts and feels of home! Enter into a living room with a gas fireplace and very comfortable sofa (which turns into a sleeper sofa), two wing chairs, a writing desk, a powder room and a closet. Adjacent to the living room is a long hall that leads to the bedroom suite, which features a king-size bed, two stuffed chairs, a small built-in dresser with TV over top and a closet. The bathroom is quite spacious and has a large walk-in shower with an overhead rain shower. The kitchen is located between the bedroom and living room. There's a table for four, an electric cook top, microwave, Keurig with coffee cups, creamers and sugars. Packets of oatmeal are also available for a quick breakfast. There's a dorm-sized fridge with small freezer compartment. There's an outdoor balcony that runs the length of the suite and can be accessed by doors in living room, kitchen and bedroom. Outside is a small table and two chairs. The patio overlooks the parking lot and the Town 220 restaurant. This suite is the most comfortable accommodation that I have stayed in while traveling. It felt like home to me. Continental breakfast is served daily from 8-11 in the basement. I had warm chocolate chip cookies one afternoon at the front desk. At the James Madison Inn, you can park your car (for free!) and leave it parked as there is plenty to see and do in the town. The city of Madison definitely embodies southern hospitality! read more

We made a reservation a week and a half ago. Hotel bumped us on day of arrival. We were driving from North Atlanta and were half way to the property when we receive a call informing us they did not have a room for the second night. Management was not apologetic and did not seem to care. They acknowledge that they continue to have problems with 3rd party booking sites but refuse to stop accepting them. A 3rd party booking means nothing here. read more

Got to stay in a suite, which had a small kitchen, living room with fireplace, 1/2 bathroom, and a king bed with a huge shower. We had a balcony, but didn't use it because it was covered with pollen. One of the nicest rooms at any bed & breakfast I've ever stayed in. Guy at the front desk was nice. In the basement was the Oak room, where they had the breakfast. They also had newspapers there, beside of the elevator. For breakfast they had ham & cheese quiche, and spinach quiche, grits, fruit, make your own waffles, cereal, yogurt and bread. read more

This extraordinary boutique hotel didn't surprise us. I knew it existed because Madison is a Department of Community Affairs darling near Athens and Atlanta. Thanks to Joshua Hill's clout and Sherman's gracious gesture, Madison's homes were delivered from the torch. They live today in infamy. If you want to see a beautiful Ante Bellum town, this is it. You'd never suspect that this Inn is new construction from 2008. It fits right into the historic perspective of the South before the Civil War. It fills a once vacant lot one block off the original main square. It overlooks a great park with a beautiful bandstand. The columns were repurposed from a mansion in town that had fallen too far into disrepair to be restored. The Inn rooms overlook the park, which hosts various local festivals throughout the year. The facade of the Inn also features columns from the same source as the ones in the park across the street. Heart pine floors throughout the inn were also recovered from commercial buildings that have been restored in the historic district. The rooms themselves have all the modern conveniences one would expect in a five-star hotel. Huge tile showers feature rain shower heads with plenty of water and can be used as soaking tubs, as well. Our room had two very comfortable wingback chairs between the foot of the sumptuous kingsize bed and the wall-mounted TV. It also had a small but very comfy terrance overlooking the park. The room, itself, was huge. The staff here was very friendly, knowledgable about the history of Madison and very enthusiastic about their local resources. Lake Oconee is a very short drive away on I-20, but the most valuable offerings are those ante vellum mansions that populate streets radiating from the square. AND THIS BEAUTIFUL, VERY CLASSICAL INN. The location was pretty good and perfect for walking to restaurants. With that being said, it is VERY loud from the road and trains. The website advertises a nice breakfast with quiche and bacon and sausage. It was all packaged foods - granola bars, bottles of juice, etc. This was very disappointing, but it was nice that they were left out 24/7 so we were able to grab a snack mid afternoon. No fridge in the rooms, so can't bring your own stuff or bring back leftovers from dining out. TV was so tiny, couldn't see much from the bed. Thankfully we came to read and not watch TV but if we wanted to watch, we would have been disappointed. Our room was somewhat clean. There was a gross stain ( maybe blood??) on the heavy blanket, so we immediately threw that on the floor. Not sure when it was last washed. Bathrooms seemed clean, however they were not stocked well. The body soap dispenser was broken, the shampoo and conditioner had so little in it that we ran out in our 2 night stay. We also ran out of toilet paper, but they leave the housekeeper closet open, so we were able to grab another roll. This inn has a lot of potential. Website needs updating ASAP since they aren't offering the food that is listed on the website. We did not budget for breakfast meals. For $200+ a night, it was ok, and probably wouldn't stay at again unless the good breakfast was included. Housekeeping needs to make sure rooms are well stocked. read more

Such a CHARMING boutique hotel in Madison, Georgia. As soon as we walked in we were greeted my Judi who is the sweetest, most hospitable southern lady you could want greeting you. She totally said "Bless your heart." :) It seems like you walk into an old mansion, with a entry staircase and a lovely waiting area nestled to the side around a fireplace. There are only 20 or so rooms in this hotel, which are on 2 floors. The 3rd floor is a private residence. Each room has a balcony (some shared with other rooms), a rain shower, and fireplace. The fireplaces are not operable during warmer months. The rooms are very cozy and comfortable - you definitely know you're in the south but without going overboard. We stayed here as guests on a business trip, a first time for the hosts. Apparently we were guinea pigs. The risk was worth it because this could be the most beautiful place within a 50 mile radius. We dined at Town 220 which is literally 10 feet away from the front door of the hotel, and it was delicious! (Review of that place still to come.) The hotel seems to have a connection with this restaurant so let them know you will be dining there. Drink all you want because you can simply crawl to your room. Pros: Charming, comfortable, great staff (Judi), free wifi, free breakfast, fitness center, local businesses within walking distance, beautiful town Cons: Rooms that face main street may be louder since you can hear every car that passes through. I stayed on the 2nd floor and whoever the residents are on the 3rd were very heavy-footed and spoke loudly. I would definitely stay here again. I don't know why we would ever be in Madison, Georgia again but to stay at the James Madison Inn. Say hi to Judi! Love her! read more

I really liked the hotel setup and employees. The problem was that my girlfriend and I were awakened many times by loud noises from above (we were on the street level) and from the road. I don't know if it was plumbing in an antebellum building, but there were LOUD creaks/slams/etc throughout the night. The room was great. If not for the noise, it was exactly what I wanted. We were traveling between AL and SC And just happened upon this wonderful Inn. The rooms were beautiful. I uploaded some pictures. All staff members were gracious. We were treated like guests in the truest sense of the word. The room was pristine and well decorated with a porch and a working gas fireplace. There were two comfy chairs facing the fireplace and the flat screen TV. There were two luggage racks, free bottles of water, two sinks in the bathroom and a tiled oversized shower in the tasteful black and white tiled bathroom. The common areas were just as beautiful as our room. Wonderful art on the walls, crystal chandeliers and potted ferns. As we were leaving the owner took time to talk to us in the parking lot. 5 days later we received a hand written Thank You card---hand written, inviting us to visit again. No doubt we will make a point of stopping here in the future. There is no restaurant on the premises, but there is one very close by. A light breakfast was included in the price of the room and they offered a very generous military discount. read more

Hubby and I are back for another 2 day stay. The room is great as always. The weather is not however, cooperating.....its cold and raining.....but it is warm in front of the fireplace. I absolutely love staying at The James Madison Inn. The entire staff, and recently Diane, is exceptionally accommodating and welcoming. The spacious lobby is beautifully appointed as is the warm retreat like gathering hall on the lower level. The rooms are gorgeous with quality furniture and each room is customized. The bathrooms have marble (my favorite) and are huge! I come to Madison just to stay at The James Madison Inn!!!! read more

Nice hotel. For a weekend escape when you need a place to relax after a "day trip". It's a classy place. I could see this being great in the spring or early fall with each room having it's own porch. Madison is such a nice town. Worth a visit for those looking to explore the south but not wanting to veer off too much. The historic homes in the area are quite stunning. read more

We needed to evacuate from Charleston for Hurricane Matthew. After having no luck finding a place, and being presented with high rates and ridiculous terms, we luckily found the James Madison Inn. These people not only allowed us to bring our dog by waiving their no pets policy, but refused our offer of a pet deposit and waived their normal cancellation policy. On arrival, we found a gorgeous facility in a lovely small town. If you are looking for a place to stay between Atlanta and Augusta you must consider this place. read more

We stayed here recently for 3 nights for a family wedding. The Inn is very impressive and the staff was wonderful. The room was luxurious and the bathroom was done in an art deco style. The only thing that puzzled us was that there were no shelves or a dresser in which to put your clothes. We just worked out of our suitcases for a few days. Breakfast was continental/buffet style and was nice. They keep sodas, water and juices stocked for guests to have whenever the mood strikes them. We had a room overlooking the park and didn't find traffic noise to be a problem. Highly recommended. read more

We're staying at the James Madison Inn for a May wedding. The 2nd floor suite is stunning! They put a crib in the bedroom for us. My mother in law gets the pull out couch, which is a pull out couch, nothing more nothing less. The kitchen is fully functional. The staff is friendly. The carpet looks like it was shampooed yesterday. Worth every penny! The daily complimentary breakfast is delicious. read more
