We had such a wonderful time camping here. The employees at the trading post are beyond friendly and helpful. And so very patient in assisting us. The campground itself is wonderful. The sites are well maintained and there are plenty of sites that accommodate our 43 foot camper. There are some premium sites that pull through. Just exercise caution with some of those because you could see where some campers dragged trying to get into those. The bath houses are very clean and modern. They also have 20 cabins you can rent. A fair number have been remodeled and those are really nice. We had a great time and are already planning our next trip. read more

We went to Hard Labor Creek with high expectations. We were looking for a hike in the woods near water. The young employee at the park office was uninterested and uninformed, stating he had never walked any of the trails before and didn't know where they were. We met a friendly park ranger in uniform who gave us some advice where we could walk and make our own trail. On the bright side, we did have the pleasure of encountering several armadillos who trounced around us with wild abandon! Entirely uninterested and undisturbed by our presence! A couple of decent hiking trails would have made a big difference! read more

Hard Labor Creek State Park - Parks Near Me - Rutledge, Georgia

Hard Labor Creek State Park (most memorable or bleakest Georgia state park name?) didn't seem particularly geared towards plain old hikers but its target audiences would be golfers (there's also mini-golf!), equestrians (BYOHorse), mountain bikers (BYOBike), boaters (you can rent watercraft), and cabin campers. It's actually one of the largest state parks, at an expansive 5,804 acres. There are only two hiking paths in the woods, and they didn't particularly stand out from each other especially since they were connected to each other. The Brantley Nature Trail and the Beaverpond Nature Trail are about a mile long each and rated easy to moderate. Hikers are allowed on the horse and mountain biking trails, but possibly dodging poop and bikes didn't sound too appealing to me. Not to rag on the park too much, but on the upside it wasn't too crowded, the trails were kept up (though a few more blazes/signs might be helpful), the trading post was staffed by very friendly and knowledgeable folks as well as a snake and cat, and the adjacent restrooms were clean. Admission is $5 per car. I have a soft spot for state parks so I'm rounding Hard Labor up to four. read more

Let me start off with, I'm a local and take advantage of every available bit of the state park. From camping, fishing an huntin' to biking and hiking.... kayaking on the beach to stargazing and Golfing at the Creek. I've enjoyed and supported it all.... Soo that being said, The mini-golf course is TRASH. Its DIRECTLY in front of the trading post yet it stays covered in pine needles an mud. At $5 per player I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for the course to be blown off for people once a day.... Should take a lazy person with a electric hand blower no more than 15 minutes to blow off the course lanes. It took all the fun out of it when you had your ball stop or go off course due to clumps of debris everywhere or spent 2 minutes per hole with a shirt swiping it clear. Down right sucked. Now next issue with the mini-golf course was the mud on the astro-turf due to poor landscape design... but we can't hold them responsible for that. The maintenance on the other hand is well within their power to control. HARD LABOR CREEK STATE PARK MANAGEMENT....DO MORE THAN THE BARE MINIMUM.... DO... BETTER!! read more

Beautiful campground! Nice level, paved and gravel sites. Very wooded and lots of space between sites. Unfortunately this was our last stay before heading home and I am not writing this review with the park fresh in my mind. They had bathhouses and picnic pavilions and it was very quiet. We enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back again and I will be sure and update my review while I'm there to tout all of the parks amenities! read more

Small state park with decent hiking trails. Swimming area is ok. Putt Putt golf is too expensive for course quality.

HLCSP is another beautiful Georgia park. Super friendly staff. They offered a hay ride with Santa that the grandkids loved. There are 51 50/30 amp camp sites,thirteen with full hookup. Many sites have water views. The park also offers a mini golf, 20 cabins, a real golf course, an equestrian center with 12 camp sites and 30 stalls and a beautiful beach. There are hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and equestrian trails. This is a great place to spend the day, weekend, or week. read more

Had an absolutely fantastic time today during our first visit to this state park. Went on a 7 mile Ranger led trail hike. The trails are well maintained and the Ranger (Phillip) was very personable, courteous, and knowledgeable. The staff at the "Trading Post" were all super friendly and very helpful with local info / directions. I think that Hard Labor Creek State Park is going to be our "go to" place for a regular escape into nature. read more

Recently attended a family reunion here and needless to say I had a horrible time. It may have been because the living arrangements were not what I expected, however I felt like I was in a horror film the entire time. We stayed in cabins that looked like they hadn't been looked at in years. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Also there was snake skin lying on the ceiling in one of the common room cabins. It was about 5 feet long! I get that camping is great for enjoying nature, but this was a bit extreme. I didn't sleep at all because of the beds and the bugs that were in it. The area we were in looks like it's been there since 1875 and no one has stayed there since 1875. Overall I had a great time with my family, but I would never stay here again. read more

Love this campground. All the sites are spread out, wooded, well maintained and level. Bath houses are clean and the staff friendly. Good hiking along several well maintained trails of varying length and a lake for canoeing or fishing. In not a golfer but I noticed that the golf course seemed well maintained and quite challenging. We didn't use a cabin but we noticed that they were doing major renovations on the cabins. read more

Reserved our spot at 10p on Thursday and we were here by Friday afternoon (tent camping). The Camp: POISON. OAK. EVERYWHERE--that's the campsite and the WHOLE park--including ivy and Virginia Crawler. Aside from that; our camp was clean, with power outlets and running water. There's a grill top over the fire pit and a picnic table as well. Bath houses are a 3.75/5. Lots of spiders and grossness but they're stocked and the SHOWERS are warm with great water pressure! Things to Do: Psh. Unless you have a horse, there is virtually nothing to do. They (supposedly) offer kayak rental, but it wasn't open this weekend--CHECK BEFORE YOU COME! We initially planned to spend a whole day kayaking. We did rent a canoe, but the water is so shallow, we went back 2.5 hours early. We geocached for the majority of the weekend. The Store: Really freaking expensive but they have necessities (ice, firewood). Summary: The camp is clean but not so private. Visitors cannot actually DO anything: no kayaking, the fishing is awful, the creek is dry and the lakes are muddy (I think they're actually man-made. None of them look like the pictures). BYOH (bring your own horse) if you want to do any horseback riding--they don't rent. Unless you're golfing or biking, save your money (starting at $26/night for tent camping)!!! UPDATE: six days later, I am COVERED head to toe in poison oak, including throat and ears.. PLEASE put signs up! And warn campers of burning the stuff! read more

Premier cottage is NICE. (bring own condiments) So close to Atlanta yet so far (very spotty cell service, WiFi available at trading post). You can literally disconnect and enjoy the uncrowded park for yourself. read more

Well maintained mature course with excellent greens that are slaw in the morning and lightening fast in the afternoons. Plays long but is forgiving. It's long enough to challenge the big hitters and short enough to test your shirt irons. Some water but abundant bunkers will keep sand in your shoes. Reasonable greens fees and last I played was in excellent shape. Take an extra sleeve of balls. read more

No much good I can say. I have a 35 foot trailer and it was so hard navigating throughout the camping area. Roads are not wide enough and turnarounds are almost impossible Bath house was nasty and most stalls were out of order. Just not well maintained nor clean I was wanting to like the place but just couldn't make myself do it. It's a one and done for me here read more

This state park really doesn't have much to offer unless you're there to ride horses (bring your own!!), camp, or play golf. For someone looking for a casual hike or to enjoy nature for a few hours- NOT the place to go. I was hoping I could possibly ride one of the horses at the park- no, couldn't do that either. There was basically absolutely nothing to do here, not even any decent hiking trails that I could see. Skip it! read more

We came here to hike and had a great time. We took the two one-mile nature trails and really enjoyed it. There's also a nice playground and several other trails we didn't even do. One of them is 16 miles. read more
