If you're looking for authentic home cooked Filipino food, North Star is the place to go. We used to frequent their Kalihi location on School Street, however, after 40+ years in business, the "uncles and aunties" finally decided to retire this past October so only the Waipahu location is still in business. One of their popular items is the chiicharon, a crunchy skin on the outside and that tender juicy pork on the inside. Yummy! For those that don't know, it is basically a Filipino version of Chinese roast pork. They also have other favorites including pancit, pork adobo, pork quisantes and pinakbet to name a few. Options include a mini or regular plate lunch or by the container (small, medium or large poke-sized plastic containers). This Waipahu location appeared to be bigger than their old Kalihi location. It is also a Filipino grocery store. Tip, if you are planning on ordering sausage by the case, it's best to pre-order. Northstar is located in the Waipahu Professional Center in the rear building, just diamond head (east) of Servco Toyota on Farrington Highway. There is ample parking as there are a number of other businesses in this strip mall.

Small Filipino store! They serve snacks, plate lunch, dessert, and their famous longanisa $13 each. Service is quick, grab what you need and head to the cashier. I can't wait to taste the longanisa.

Came here for the chicarron, pig skins( bag used to be bigger!!), ebotebo(sp?), and stikko wafer sticks! Yum! No customer service, just get in, ask questions, pay, and get on your way. 2 stalls in front of the store, 1 of them is for handicap. Lots of snacks imported from the Philippines.

Wish l could give NO . Will not return. They don't know how to calculate and ring up customers. They charged me $7.75 for somebody else's plate. Terrible.

Came here one day because I was craving the ilocano version empanada. Also, their longanisa is bomb here.

Disgusting! The empanadas I bought from them has a fly inside. Ughhh I almost finish it. Don't buy their empanadas

    The best Chicharon in Waipahu

The best Chicharon in Waipahu, as quoted by my nephews.I would have to agree with them. They have been customers there for many years and have always bought Chicharon here or at their location in Kalihi.A small tiny grocery store/deli has great selection of deli items for parties and special meals.Freshly made and great quality. ***** Friendly service and helpful staff. *****

This is a place to go for some crunchy chicharon! $4 for a quart sz ziploc bag. It's use to be like a $1 cheaper.

You gotta try the chicharon here! You can eat it as a palutan aka snack or with rice, either way it's yummy for the tummy!

Been coming here for over 15 years. By far the best and only place I go to buy my longanisa, dinakdakan and chicharon.

There is…read moresomething about going to a Safeway that's different from going to target or Walmart or Costco. Also, I love that it's open and available at the time that I'm available. I will have to say that being here at 5 AM with nobody in the building but myself and probably a few associates, made it extremely cold? Or am I just not used to AC anymore? It was actually unbearably cold that I had to leave after sometime because I was getting so uncomfortable, it hurt. But then again, this is someone who used to live in Texas and needed to always have a 66° AC to someone who now lives in a space with absolutely no AC. So take this with a grain of salt. This is probably my favorite Safeway I've ever been to and I've been to several in the country during my travels. It's a shame that I only started checking in seriously this year! I highly recommend this location for good finds and for being very well organized. It makes me want to shop more. I also found some fun items in their international section that I've never seen before. I will obviously be back!

Shared, free parking is available with Longs, Starbucks, and many other businesses in Waipahu Town Center. Inside, there are more vendors such as Magnolia Ice Cream, Valerio's Bakery, and Jollibee. It's a spacious, well-lit, clean, busy environment. There are many choices - from fresh produce and Household items, to lots of cooking ingredients, and, of course, seafood! When you're in the area, stop by!

Red Ribbon has been replaced by Bakers Avenue. They still have their meat, seafood, produce and poke departments. I love that they have fresh seafood lying all around on ice. Their prices are higher than what I'm used to seeing. They have live blue crab for $14.99 a pound. I know other places where I can get it for $8.99 a pound. I still would have purchased some, since I was there. However, all the crabs were dead. Never buy dead crabs as bacteria multiplies as soon as they die that turns into toxins. Cooking them will not get rid of the toxins. Live Dungeness crab was $38.99 a pound and live lobster was $37.99 a pound. Their shellfish are priced high. The produce was fresh and colorful. We saw mangoes that were $3.99 each. I bought a whole box of the same mangoes yesterday for $8.99 at another store. Needless to say that I left empty handed.

"Lucky you live Pearl City! $6 Meals!!?"…read more  Did you hear about Pearl City Foodland's $6 Specials they offer Monday - Friday?  They are the bomb!!   With the prices of everything going UP, UP, UP there's now a place you can enjoy ono food for only $6! I have 2 favorites -- Tuesday & Thursday.   I eat it practically every week and you'd never guess when you see it! Tuesday is the BBQ Bowl -- You get ypur choice of meat, rice, and a side (banchan). I always get the smoke meat with pickled onion on rice. The smoked meat has plenty smoked taste, just enough fat, and it's not tough (you know what I mean).  The pickled onion is the perfect compliment!   Love the bite and the vinegar taste -- cuts though and brings it all together!   They give you quite a bit in the bowl.  Definitely enough to make me smile!    Again ---- $6.00!!!!! Thursday is another winner in my book.   It's noodle day!!!  I used to get the Mega which had everything in it.   It was a special that they had at the beginning but it's been discontinued.  I think the only one I'm not too crazy about is the curry.   I know some like it -- but having watery curry with noodles is just not me.   The rest are pretty good.   They warm up the noodles right there and add all the goodies on top.  It's take out so they give you the hot broth in another container ---- perfect so your noodles don't get soggy!   I think it's a great 'buy and eat later' meal! I think the only negative is that sometimes the parking lot is very, very full.  If you go early it's not too bad.    The rest of the days they have kalua pig burrito, nachos, and the $6/lb food bar Friday.   With all the prices on everything going UP, UP, UP, it's so nice that we can have a good and satisfying meal for $6.00.    Thank you Foodland -- Food, Family, and Friends!!!
