The I-635 TEXpress lanes are "guaranteed" to keep traffic at 50 mph or more... right? Is it a technicality that they don't count the LONG line of traffic when traveling east from I-35 and wanting to exit the Dallas North Tollway north? Maybe you're going 50mph up until that point but waiting to exit you're going slightly over 0 mph for a very long time. Very frustrating experience with North Texas Tollway Authority. I opened a TollTag account in 2024 and used toll roads throughout 2025. I regularly checked my account online, and it always showed a $0 balance. I never received any paper bills or text reminders. Recently, I logged in and suddenly saw a balance close to $1,000. My credit card had been replaced, so auto-pay failed--but what I cannot understand is why my account showed $0 the entire time and only updated much later with much higher non-TollTag charges. I even went in person to an NTTA service center, but the staff could not explain why the account failed to show the balance and kept repeating the same general responses. If the balance had appeared earlier, I would have fixed it immediately and avoided hundreds of dollars in extra fees. So which should customers trust--the website account or email notifications? After this experience, I will avoid using NTTA toll roads unless absolutely necessary. read more

Thee cheers for the NTTA keeping the roadways clear, and the speed limits as just a suggestion. I don't have a TollTag, so I have no idea how many tolls and fees and charges and taxes and surcharges and penalties I've racked up, but I'm sure it's not going to be cheap. They're not very transparent about how much you're going to owe. I remember back in the day that you could throw change at the basket and it'd count how much money you gave it. It always used to say that they don't accept pennies, but these toll booths really did. I've never seen police hanging out on the Tollway, since there's really not a lot of shoulder or anywhere for traffic enforcement to hang out, other than going through traffic. I've never seen anyone getting pulled over along here, so I think it's pretty much, you pay the toll- you dive how you wanna. read more

Yes, I recommend NTTA. Absolutely the best roadways - so smooth and steady. They manage the tolls well, too. Easy to pay online or via app. Do I like paying tolls? No way. Already obsolete in Johnson County. At least the one lane Johnson County section is now greatly over-capacity at rush hour, and full of 55 mph big trucks. Almost complete gridlock. The entry/exit at Johnson County/US 67 is a complete mess. The lights seldom function properly, and it chokes down to one lane at the traffic lights. The real problem is with the poor design; there is no easy way to fix the bottle necks without tearing out the entire present enter-change and adding a second lane all the way to Tarrant County. The Johnson County portion was designed and constructed with a "pennywise/pound foolish" mentality. The biggest problem is that there is no government entity that cares, they all want to just sweep the problems under the carpet and pretend it doesn't exist. read more

I switched from a TXTag to Ntta for the simple reason that they have their ducks in a row. Every time you turned around with TxTag even though you were signed up for auto pay and paperless-- I was still getting dinged for the mailed bills and late fees--It was insane. There was always an excuse of some sort of there end. I have never had any issues with NTTA--all tolls are paid-never a late fee -customer service has always been kind and friendly and has always answered all of my questions with out any hesitation. I would recommend everyone who has a TXTag to switch to NTTA. read more

God I hate this organization. I have two years of gripes with them, but my least favorite instances have been (1) when they sent my name to a debt collector for failing to pay a bill that THEY had incorrectly not assigned to my account or (2) when they sent me a mailed notice saying I needed to pay a bill because THEY had deleted my car and license plate off of my account. Customer service always tries to be friendly and helpful, but the way that the system works means that everything is f*cked regardless, and you always end up paying an arm and a leg due to THEIR errors. Currently on the phone with customer service representative. I had a toll tag on a vehicle I traded in, and paid my toll amounts. I received a second bill. When I called back the employee who helped me applied my payment wrong. The first issue: 1. My toll tag was not being billed, I received a zip cash bill. 2. The employee applied my funds incorrectly. So I was still charged late fees. As I was speaking to the customer service rep today I asked to speak to a manager, because my funds were applied incorrectly. The representative tells me to that the manager said I will still have to pay my bill. My response. I will still wait! Because I paid my bill the issue is that your employee applied my payment incorrectly. Lesson Learned: Even when you have a person on the line do not give them your payment over the phone. Ask them to make the adjustments necessary and pull up the bill or account and pay it yourself online. Otherwise, their employee can misappropriate your funds and there is no way they can fix it!!! read more

I know it's almost impossible, but stay away from these money-grubbing A-holes. My 42 year old son passed away last year, leaving an unused tag and an unpaid balance on his account. Trying to do the right thing, I went to their customer Service center in Plano to inform them and close the account. I spoke with a very nice lady that told me to bring in a copy of his Death Certificate they would close the account and remove the balance. When i took a copy of the certificate in the next week, I got the Queen B---h of the agency that tried to get me to pay the balance. She finely agreed to turn in in for review! They change the account to my address, so I am getting the bill every month. With penalties and late charges they have the dead man's up close to $2000. They are idiots! Bottom line: Where are the humans?? The customer service number is truly horrendous and unworkable once I became a member/customer! I've used NTTA for over a year. I live in AL but have family in the DFW area. Used the toll roads and got the ZipCash bills. No sweat. Called the number, paid the charges, got 2 Baylor branded toll tags and I'm good to go. (The process to change tag assignments was wonky but took under 10 minutes...about a year ago.) Until I had to replace a windshield. Today, I called the customer service number SIX TIMES. I tried the "customer" option (1) straight up four times and the phone number/zip code was not found. One time I tried "other issues" (5) then "return to main menu (1) and got the same result. FINALLY...I went "other issues" (5) then "other issues (can't remember the choice) and finally got a person. I told him I needed to replace a tag. The rep then asked for the account number, name on the account (wife's), verified my name, asked for the phone number AND email address AND address on the account. Then he read the 2 vehicles on the account and then asked if I wanted to add another vehicle. About 1 minute later, I was told a new tag would be here in 7-10 business days. I will be contacting the NTTA "ombudsman" since there is no way on the web site, app, or phone system to lodge a complaint or talk to a supervisor. Scammers!!!!!! Two different occasions they sent me a notice of 3rd notice of none paymnet. Never sent me a 1st, 2nd or 3rd notice. I called they to find out what happened, they said "well our system shows we mailed them out." That was it they would not waive the fees or acknowledge they made a mistake. Well, well, well it seems my complaint is redundant to all the others. I have not watched my toll tag account closely enough over the past 10+ yrs. It's really terrible that we can have a toll appear several months later making it virtually impossible to verify charges are legitimate. While on the 2 hr. phone call with NTTA, I was charged 3 tolls, 2 from last week & 1 from last month. Are those legitimate? No way of confirming. Several years ago when I purchased a new vehicle I updated my vehicle/tag with NTTA. I recently received a Zip Cash over $200. When questioning the agent I was informed my vehicle wasn't on my toll tag. Suddenly after several years of toll tag fees (paid with auto pay) I was informed my vehicle had been added last year & removed 3 days later. By whom? Then I asked to resolve this issue & had to pay Zip Cash $130. They took no responsibility for the vehicle change? Hmm, who made the change on my account in 2021 is my question. What a expensive lesson I learned today. Going forward...Watch your account to make sure an employee doesn't remove your vehicle from the toll tag? Established earlier charges cannot be verified as they can trickle in months later. If anyone has any idea how to manage a toll tag account, please post. Seems to be lots of funny business going on at NTTA. Their motto seems to be "too bad for you sucker, we are always right". I rate my experience today on a scale of 1-10 as a 1 or less. read more

I traveled to North Texas (Frisco, DFW) for a brief 3-day vacation with my son. I'd never been to the area, and now, I'm definitely never ever returning!! I am not unfamiliar with the concepts of tolls but I have never experienced being on a toll road that doesn't have clear signage nor an option to exit to avoid paying tolls. Obviously not being from the area, and having never traveled there previously, I had NO CLUE the road itself was a toll and that I was being charged every single time I got on it to travel very short distances during my stay. The way I found out however was a bill for $42+ that showed up in my mailbox six months later!! As a huge fan of customer service and grace, I thought surely if I explained my situation, the bill would be credited because again, I've never been to the area, had no clue I was on a toll road (not even my phone GPS indicated I was!), and it wasn't like I was just trying to run up a toll bill. Although the customer services representatives were nice enough, there was nothing they could (or were willing to do). I saw previous compliants on other websites that said that I could be credited but no such luck. The 2nd representative said I could file an inquiry but she told me that they're almost always declined (why have the process then???). Despite her forewarning, I inquired twice and was denied both times. As a person who loves to travel, I will steer clear of this area in the future. If you are considering traveling to Frisco, DFW, or anywhere that's considered North Texas, I strongly encourage you to do your research, watch where you're driving, and be prepared for an unexpected long-term bill associated with your travel. I ride motorcycles, so once in a while, I get a Zip cash bill because the cams don't pickup the tag or plate. In the 3 times this has happened over the last 2 years or so, all 3 times were handled easily and pleasantly. Today was no exception. Tamika was really great. EXTORTION & SHENANIGANS!!! We already pay for roads and bridges every year. Our tax dollars are supposed to pay for the maintenance and construction of new and existing roads. We should not be paying extra money for new roads or existing roads. Not to mention, these new toll ways never get paid off anymore. In the past, a road had a toll until it was paid for. Now the NTTA simply bills indefinitely. Also, these tolls are TOO HIGH! I recently mistakenly took a toll way and was charged over $12 for just a few miles. THAT'S RIDICULOUS! And the online payment portal only takes CREDIT CARDS!? Is this the 90's!?!?! Do you realize how many companies have had their credit card databases stolen online? Terrible! receive a surprise collection bill that didnt show on our txtag. Then I pay the bill and their website does not work and ends up charging my account 3 times for the payment that would never go through. Then I try to email them and their website requires a captcha to confirm to send the email This does not work! Entered the word showing on the computer over 10 times and know it matches, but won't let the email be sent! WORST! You can't charge people and then not communicate! Scam and a way to over charge. I drove through Texas in June and paid all tolls, however today I received a bill from NTTA stating that I owe $5.28 for an unpaid toll from June 25th. Yes, 4 months plus later, they discover my plates on their cameras (along with many other unsuspecting motorists, I'm sure) and get to collect undeserved revenue. I didn't quibble with the nice customer service rep who I talked to and was able to quickly pay it on the phone, just to have it done. I know I didn't blow past any tolls, all were paid, but just not worth the useless hassle to argue over a small amount and that's what these government entities count on. Gave 2 stars just for the customer service guy who was patient and kind, not his fault that he works for a devious collection agency that gouges the public. read more

I out 20 in my account, used the 35 north toll road from fort worth to just past basswood (up 35 about 5 miles) and somehow was charged $16 when their billboard says $2.35. I have a toll tag, but was getting charges via zipcash. I just finished my 5th call. Each time they say they will make the transfer payment and fix the issues, but they don't. Plus there is a 30 minute hold each time you call. When you are the only game in town, I guess you get to do as you please. Child struggling with my online username and password so I came in to change my TollTag account to reflect the various rental vehicles i was in!
