Hi old folks! Yes, you too. If you're looking at the Social Security Administration, you're getting up here in age like myself. Okay so it's just me? Given the current cuts DOGE went about with a chainsaw, one would expect the SSA to be off pace a great deal. Well you'd be wrong. My experience has been exemplary. They seem to have really stepped up their efforts to still provide the best service. I expected this to take time given the numbers of physicians I see, specialty care, records from more than 6 different offices or agencies trying to be precise with details. I was under no illusion this would be a fast process. I wouldn't want it to be. Decision of this magnitude deserve time so they can be thorough. Given all that, and the people there having to go in to work under pressure of threats to their very careers and livelihoods? That alone would crush the spirits of even the toughest worker, so I fully understand they are fighting a battle now, yet they dig in. I feel for every worker out here in this new environment of fire first, ask questions later. I for one could be more proud of the job they do. We're all going through a struggle, some of us more than others. It's good to have an agency within our government that is here to help make that struggle more bearable, less alone. 5 stars isn't nearly enough these days. Nowhere in the building is it posted that they only allow walk in appointments until 9am. I got my number, waited in the room for over 2 hours just for them to call my name and tell me they couldn't help me and hand me a paper sheet with a QR code on it. This location is slow as molasses and over half of the windows are closed due to a staff shortage. Got here at 10 am and wasn't seen until 2:40. UNACCEPTABLE! I always wonder why online appointments are not an option at Government offices. You have to go in person, collect your token from the automated kiosk and wait until your number is called. Seems so counter productive and a huge waste of time and effort. The wait is anywhere between 1 and 3 hours depending on the work you have to get done. The staff are non-chalant but get the job done, which is what is needed. Not a fan of going to the SSA but sometimes we dont have a choice. read more

I made an appointment online nearly 2 months ago to change my name due to marriage. I arrived 10 min prior to my 1:30 appointment, checked in at the kiosk at 1:22 and was immediately called to desk 8. The clerk found my online application, checked my documents and handed me a receipt. I was back in my car at 1:29 calling my husband to tell him I was done. I must say I am impressed with the process at this office! I was expecting a horrible experience based on the reviews; however, I was literally in and out in less than 15 minutes! My appointment was at 10, and I arrived and checked in at 9:46. My number was called at 9:51 and I walked out the door at 9:58. I needed to update my SSA record with my maiden name, so I called SSA first, NOT the local office and they made the appointment for me. Since this office is now by appointment only, I think the key is doing whatever you can online first, then if an appointment is needed to complete the process, it takes less time in the office. I filled the application out online first and was provided a control number confirmation which I printed out and brought with me. Since my application was located with the control number, the only thing left for me to do was provide the required documents. I had my divorce decree and drivers license in hand and the guy assisting me made a copy of my documents and sent me on my way! Now I know every process and issue is different so some things may take more time than others, but having the required paperwork and documentation ready along with an appointment saves time and frustration. Not to mention everyone in the office was pleasant from security to other people waiting to the staff. read more

I arrived at the Social Security Office at Grand Prairie right around 3pm. I figured since they closed at 4, I should be able to have enough time in the office to get things done. However, when I got there, I saw a few people walking along the doors, not able to go in. Everyone was wondering why the front entrance door was locked at 3. Finally we were able to get someone come to the door. He opened the door and explained to us that the office was closed because they were at capacity. It was extremely disappointing since no one expected the Social Security Office would close earlier even though they posted on their door that their office hours were 9a-4p. Before I went there, I called multiple times, two days in a row, trying to get an appointment but each time I called, the wait on the phone was more than 1 hour and 30 minutes. I had a great experience at the Social Security office in Grand Prarie on Tuesday April 15, 2025. I made an appointment on the phone but could not be seen for a week. I decided to go and walk in. I was told you need an appointment and I understood then a woman was asking each person if they had an appointment because they did not accept walk in's anymore. I told her my brother passed away in Oct and only needed a copy of his 1099 tax statement for my Lawyer to complete his last tax return. She told me to check in because it would be fast and easy to get it. The Security man was a great help for me to check in. I got my number and was called in 1/2 hr and got what I needed and complemented them on how organized they were and how many windows to help people. I read reviews before I went and could not believe how many negative reviews there were even blaming President Trump and Elon Musk for their frustration. After observing how good their process was I came to the conclusion that many people who complain don't like to follow rules or don't have the right paperwork to get service. I visited the office in Grand Prairie today 7/2. I was told there's a three hour wait period . I have a lot of patience so that did not bother me. However,I am not a person to cast aspersions but I ascertain the supervisors really need to be more tentative and show respect to the public. Why do people have to be so rude and condescending? Two female African American prudes would not acknowledge us by any means so don't dare ask a question. The two security officers were introverts. One more than the other eager to assist The African American male who was calling names and the caucasian female also affable but those two reclusive females should not work with the public. First of the week, March 25th, 2024 I went to the SSA office @ 2201 Colorado Blvd., Denton, TX 76205. After 'many' years with same bank corp., I had recently changed to JP Morgan 'Chase' bank. After decades with same banking system, I depended on the person who enrolled me as a new customer with chase. Among other errors caused by my lack of understanding the proper protocol, the form that was filled out and signed never made it to SSA offices. I was in trouble; had not received the March 2024 SS check, and was uncertain the status of future checks. Made an appointment, and was assisted by Mr. Braum (spelling ?). He verified my identity, entered my banking information; advised that my Feb. check would arrive in bank auto deposit in 3 to 7 business day (It was there by Friday). Also advised me to notify SSA 'directly' if such issue was to ever occurred again. Your agent was friendly, professional and very skilled. He was very much appreciated!! read more

Someone called this office and reported that my mother was dead ...and without verifying ANY INFORMATION, THEY SUSPENDED MY MOTHER'S MONTHLY BENEFITS. I have had to come the this office 15 ..times .yes 15 times to get error corrected , they finally cut my mother a check March 8th for 4 months back pay and that is NOT EVEN ALL THEY OWE. The supervisors FiFi and Two other ladies ...one with short bob haircut , and the other one with long hair and are so not fair administrative staff .I watched them sift through the numbers people pulled for service for the Easy things and left everyone else to wait to be served at the clerk window ...Then She verbally told me She had a 2 pm meeting and did a role call to only delete numbers for people who didn't answer, some spanish speaking families got deleted because of the language barrier. She said she couldnt help me ..as a supervisor. When I finally got my mother some help they called security on me saying I was being irate. Well my mothers house was in foreclosure ..since she had not received her monthly check along with utilities past due with no mercy for her from bill collectors ..and Mr Adams the security guard , witnessed myself and my mother come to this office and sit for 8 hours to only be promised things that didnt happen from these same supervisors. People should really know the reason the wait is so long is the supervisors are SIFTING THROUGH NUMBERS FOR WHAT THEY WANT TO ACCOMPLISH QUICKLY ..THEN when 3pm hits they come out to the lobby and introduce themselves like their helping by starting to clear and place people in booths so they can leave on time . They Have the security guards attempting to help people with forms xeroxed on the counter . The tv number service doesnt work. It randomly selects numbers , then assign them to Desk Desk not a booth ...and they get deleted . Once again they promised my mother they would get her account fixed and they even admitted their error in writing, so if you can admit you messed it up .fix it Immediately. People lives are hanging in the balance for Rude supervisors who cash tax payer sponsored checks , and refuse to provide help in a timely fashion. But have the nerve to get upset when you call them out on the issues that a supervisor should have fixed LAST YEAR ! OR BETTER YET ...WHEN THEY CUT HER A CHECK AT THE PHYSICAL OFFICE ON 3/8 SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED . SUPERVISOR WITH THE Bob haircut assisted us then that was trip 14 to office .. When i told her upon arrival we had been here 13 times to be told it was processing...she said ..well its gonna be 14 ...have a seat ....then she called securty on me then ...what kind of response is that from a Supervisor. Also this is a sad situation when our elderly/ disabled are left to the mercy of these people, again my mother came in nice quiet and peaceful 13 times alone to be told its processing, I got involved on the last 2 visits . They called security on Me ....WOW if you their mother was in the same position , they would be just as mad to being going in circles with no clear decisive answer ...almost loosing her house and bills piled up , no medication due to no benefits , just sad in 2024 people can mess up as a Government entity and then make you the problem. read more

Ah, the Social Security office. Just the place no one wants to visit. I found myself in need of a new Social Security card and a letter for documentation purposes so I forewent the online application and opted to visit the actual Social Security building. The reviews were all spot on. You walk in, enter the line by logging in on one of the kiosks, and then take a seat. The gentlemen who work as security at this office are extremely helpful and entertaining as well. Everyone receives a number but there's no screen that notifies you when your turn is up. Instead, you have to listen for a faint number/letter combination over the intercom. When you add in voices of people talking loudly, it's quite possible to miss hearing your number being called. Luckily the gentlemen who work there will call out numbers to make sure everyone is seen. I waited about 30 minutes overall and then it was my turn. I spent about 5 minutes with the gentleman who processed my application and issued me the letter that I needed. I would definitely come back to this location because everything was easy peasy. read more

I sat down after finding the right paperwork I needed to complete my social card trip. I looked at my number and realized it could be awhile before I was called. (I was in the 60's, and they were in the 20's). After a few moments of playing a couple of games on my phone, my number was called. It didn't take even 30 Minutes to be seen. Once inside the cubicle area, I was greeted by a gentleman behind a plexiglass wall. He asked for my information and Identification. He was not in the best mood but I got what I needed done. I've been trying to get ahold of someone on the phone for TWO DAYS! Two mf says! That's absurd. Covid isn't a reason to be unprofessional and just flat out lazy. They'll literally pick up the phone, say some mumbling worlds to someone in front of them, then hang tf up on you. Absolutely the worst customer service I have experienced. I went in for a simple name change. The worker was extremely rude because she didn't like the fact that I did my application ahead of time, online. She preferred paper applications, and let that be known with aggressive language and behaviors. Once she got over throwing a fit of having to verify the online application, she refused to confirm the updated information so I have no idea if my new card will be correct. I guess I'll have to wait and find out in 2 weeks when it arrives in the mail. It wasn't as bad as I thought to get a name change! I arrived around 9:50 a.m. (they open at 9) and the place was completely filled up with people. There are no clear instructions, but you check into the computers to the left when you walk in. The computer prints you a ticket and you wait. The security guards seemed friendly and interested in helping people get in and out. Unfortunately food and drink is not allowed in the room. It would have been a more pleasant experience with my Starbucks. There are more than 30 kiosks and I don't know if each person is dedicated to doing one type of thing, but only 30 minutes after I checked in they called my number! You can fill your paperwork out at home and bring it in to save time. It took about 5 minutes at the kiosk to change my last name. This place is 3 stars, minus 1 star for not allowing food and drink, and minus another star because taking care of business is never fun. Other than that, it was A-OK! read more
