I am writing this for a few reasons. First, to thank a man named Jose at Northampton Condos in Largo, Maryland, for his professionalism, patience, and skill in replacing my kitchen faucet. He did the work with quiet confidence, precision, and care. But more than that, I want to thank him for inspiring me. In the short time I watched him work, I learned that Jose was once an architect in his native Bolivia. And as is too often the story of newcomers to this country, America seems to have no problem trusting a man's hands while refusing to recognize his mind. This man is an architect. A professor. A thinker. A builder. But who would know? Who would ask? Who would care enough to see beyond the uniform, the toolbox, or the job placed in front of him? I did. Jose's quiet nature, his passion for architecture, and his belief in humanity moved me so deeply that I sat down and wrote a screenplay titled "Planos de la Dignidad" -- (Blueprints of Dignity). I've been sitting in my apartment complex since the summer started and my A/C has not been working and they consider someone coming to spray coolant and putting a portable fan unit as fixing the problem . I have a loud ass fan that runs non stop and runs up my bill instead of them fixing the issue they rather put bandages on the equipment. Not only that ,my refrigerator does not work. I've been emailing and calling about these issues and instead of them trying to fix the issue they care more about a ticket request (WHEN THEY DONT EVEN ANSWER THEIR PHONES OR EMAILS ) now that i filed a consumer complaint report , now that fire is under their feet they want to give me a call. I wouldn't even rate this a 1 if 0 was an option. I had the worst first experience of living on my own because I moved here. I had three terrible floods in my unit because of issues with the building structure. Each time my unit flooded, I couldn't stay there for at least a week due to the loud fans and the maintenance people moving all of my furniture out of place. They don't even replace the carpet when it floods, they just dry it out and my apartment continued to smell like mold and mildew. On top of that several light switches and outlets would not work, maintenance would fix it, and it would mess up right away. After 4 times of requesting for them to fix these issues, they just stopped coming and it was never fixed. On top of all these inconvenient issues, they only gave me $165 back from my $500 security deposit due to mandatory fees that they never told me about and carpet damage. I left the apartment the same as it was when I moved in, took pictures and videos as evidence. When I went to the leasing office to dispute the charges, they showed me pictures that were taken 3 days after I returned the keys. Anyone could've been in the apartment during that period of time. I've tried getting in contact with someone but they don't respond to emails or phone calls so at this point I'm ready to take legal action. read more

I am extremely upset and left stuck in a situation due to poor management procedures and this company could care less!! I applied to move into an apartment, got approved, signed my lease and had a move in date for July 15th in unit 257-32. I have already moved all my utilities to the new address, paid a deposit for movers, paid for renters insurance and started paying down my move in balance on line. Only to receive a call today that I can't move because the prior tenant has decided to stay and I have to wait 30 days for my money to be reimbursed that I started paying to get my move in balance lowered prior to my scheduled date to move in. AND I can't get my application fee back?? What type of shady, janky business is this place running? To leave a single mother and kids just basically stuck due to no fault of my own and you're not going to return every single dollar that I've paid here? So please be very cautious moving here before you find yourself scrambling to find a residence AND out of your money until they decide to refund you WITHOUT returning your application fee. read more

I wouldn't give this place any stars if I could but the only way to post is to give them a star. This place is an insult to all hard working people trying to move in a decent area and raise a family. I recently gave my notice to my apartment complex that I was moving out only to wish I stayed there a little longer and didn't come across north hampton apartments the service was questionable from the beginning. Make a long story short I got approved for the place I paid $200 plus $30 for application and amenity fees when I was sent my approval letter only $50 of the amenity fees was applied to the security deposit when I was told the whole thing of what I paid would be applied to my move in security deposit(total lie) nobody could explain where that money went. How every I proceeded on then I ask for two weeks straight to see what apartment I would be moving into after being forced to sign a lease before I could view and move into the apartment. I was shown two different type of apartments none which were like the floor plan I was selected to move into. I called a begged them for 2 weeks straight to see my apartment, when I finally got the keys it was the same as move in day and none of the staff even did the walk through with me ....None of their apartments are upgraded they lied on their website. They have a model inside of the leasing office that is nothing like any of the properties onsite. After you look at these pictures I've uploaded know that they told me my apartment wasn't upgraded and it didn't need to be because everything was in working condition. The apartment they gave me was previously broken into the lock was broken and the apartment hadn't even been worked on prior to the last tenants that occupied the apartment. I can't even write anymore to make a long story short this is a horrible place to live. I agree with most of Valentine's review (1/16/15) about Northampton Apartments. But first, my experience with the leasing office has been overall pleasant. They have been very friendly and helpful and have resolved quickly on issues that I have had. Maintenance requests were handled timely. One service request was a nice man from Jordan, and he made sure to clean up any mess he made while doing repairs. Second service request were done by two guys who were friendly, polite, and finished the repairs quickly. They made quite a mess but didn't clean up at all. I was left to clean the stains they left on the carpet. I have never had problems with parking at my building, even with coming home late at night. Other than those things, I had similar experiences as Valentine. The trash bins are always full, with residents leaving trash outside the bins. I have seen so many discarded mattresses and sofas around the trash bins, too. Embarrassing when you have guests over and see all the trash in your community. Yes, there is no feeling of community here in Northampton but that doesn't bother me. Yes, you pay for all utilities. The hallways are dirty. Again, embarrassing when you have guests over. My main problem with my apartment is the noise of my upstairs neighbors. Totally agree with the super thin walls. At least all Valentine hears are footsteps, the TV and conversations. I hear it EVERYTIME my upstairs neighbors 'get busy' at night. So annoying. They are up late and wake up so early. I can't sleep. When I finally do, their footsteps wake me up at 5am every morning. When they walk around or if they or one my neighbors on the same floor close their door and I am sitting in my sofa, I can feel my wall vibrate. Not kidding. It makes me wonder if residents with babies or young kids have problems putting their kids to sleep with noise from upstairs neighbors. Or maybe I am just unfortunate to have upstairs neighbors with giant feet and have loud sex. I am sure they do not mean to be disruptive, but it's just how the apartments are built. If not for the noise, I would have been fine renewing my lease until I can afford to move to a better apartment or buy my own home. I value my sleep, and I just can't deal with the noise anymore. Unfortunately, I have ten months left on my lease. I really hope something can be done with the noise issues. read more

Never have I ever wanted to move out of an apartment complex so badly in my life. When my boyfriend and I first moved here, things were great. However, after renewing our lease things went SEVERELY downhill. Maintenance began taking longer to address issues, a new neighbor with several kids not only leaves trash outside if the building, but the kids are constantly running up and down the stairs making all kinds of noise instead of going to the park, and customer service in the office is nonexistent. Today, my boyfriend went to the rental office to pick up a package for me, but they claimed they couldn't find it. They said the package was on the log and someone signed for it, yet it was missing. How does that happen? An employee there name LARRISSA got the worst attitude with my boyfriend shaking her head and smacking her gums trying to give excuses as to why my package was missing (mind you I'm on the phone with him the entire time). I ask to speak with her to figure out what was going on and she even had an attitude with me stating she didn't know what to tell me. Are you kidding me?!?! You have ONE job!! Sign for the package and put it in the closet for pickup. Simple!! It's not even about the package at this point. It's about the lack of professionalism and customer service. And I heard she's new. Surprise surprise. I guess they just hire anyone from anywhere. And here's the best part, I called back up there to complain and the girl I was complaining about answered the phone, left me on hold for 10 minutes, and never came back. What a joke! Even the manager acts she's just there to collect a check and doesn't care. She's been rude to me previously. There's only two girls there that I like dealing with (both short and light-skinned. One with curly hair and one with straight hair) They are patient and professional. So now I have to track down my package, (which is a gift from my grandmother) because of the incompetence of the front office. Cannot wait until my lease is up. read more

I have been a resident of Northampton since 2019. I received glowing reviews from the staff, although I read many underwhelming reviews online. I was concerned about those reviews but decided to give Northampton a chance anyway, as I was assured those reviews were old and based off of interactions with staff that were no longer working with the company. However, after almost a year of poor service, an apartment that feels to be falling apart, a lack of response to my requests, as well as a lack of professionalism, it appears that the google reviews were indeed accurate. I am beyond underwhelmed and frustrated with the service, or more accurately, the lack thereof. The staff is absolutely clueless about what is happening in and around the Northampton community. The apartments are in very bad condition, maintenance is unresponsive, and the only thing they seem to follow up on is late rental payments. Maintenance: My apartment was not renovated prior to rental. I have entered MANY complaints since move in, most of which were ignored, unless I was home to oversee the work of the maintenance staff. I finally had to involve the rental office, but have not had much luck in having their intervention produce results. To date, there are many things which reman undone. Grounds: There are residents with dogs who allow their dogs to poop without cleaning behind them. Maintenance does not do a good job with making sure the grounds are free of defecation so other residents do not soil their clothes/shoes. Imagine stepping in defecation right before work! There is a dog park, but it is on the other side of the building. If poop bags were provided on the other side of the building as well, there could be less problems with this. Also, there are residents who have moved without providing forwarding addresses. In these cases, there is mail that is strewn on the floor and on top of the mailboxes. When the unclaimed mail overflows, mail is all over the floor, blows in the wind, and is never retrieved by maintenance or the rental office, although it is reported. It makes the grounds look trashy and for the amount of money we pay in rent, the grounds should be well maintained. Loiter: Additionally, there are many residents and their company who loiter, sitting on stairs of or standing at the entrances of the resident buildings smoking marijuana. The smell is overwhelming and enters the apartments. Although reported, nothing has been done to mitigate it. Parking: Parking is also a problem, which becomes a security problem. Residents have to arrive early to get parking nearer to their building. For those who work a distance away, or work late evenings, such as myself, must park at the rental office and walk quite a distance to get home. This poses a security concern, walking alone to my building. I have requested reserved parking, but have been ignored for almost a full year, although there are several empty reserved spots available. I have written multiple emails that were passed along to Jamie Hillocks in regards to parking, all without response. Rental Office: Calling the rental office and actually being able to reach a live person is seemingly impossible. No one ever answers the phone and some days, you must call between 10 and 20 times to get a response. There are several times I have walked into the rental office and had to wait when the office was empty or no one addressed me. This is especially relevant with the young man who works in the office- he never speaks or asks if you need help. He'll walk right past you as if you are not sitting and waiting. On several occasions when calling in, I specifically asked to speak with Jamie Hillocks but she did not take my calls. Better, she gave the message that she would call me back but did not. The only two staff members who seem to care about the residents and are capable are Karem and Crystal. They do their best and are responsive, solving what issues they can within their limits. I would say don't do it! Maintenance is slow to respond to request my shower head fell off it took them two days to come and repair it instead of replacing they glued the old one back on. My job ended up transferring me to another location I ended up paying almost 2600.00 in fees on top of that when I tried to work out a payment arrangement I made numerous attempts to call and workout payment arrangements. No one responded to me and sent my payment to collections I have tried numerous times to reach out to a SOMEONE about this matter and no luck. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOU HEADACHE!! Don't do it at all. I moved out the place was clean professionally. I was told just to drop the keys off and not to worry about a walkthrough. After not receiving my deposit back I checked rental portal and notice I was charged all kinds of fees to where it took my entire deposit. Never would I recommend this. read more

WAY overpriced for what one gets at Northampton. It started with when I first walked into the unit to find a god-awful smell. Later I discovered the unit above was leaking into my HVAC unit closet. Next was the dead FiOS unit that beeped night and day every 15 minutes. Plus: -Bugs, even when the windows are closed -The paint job on the walls is nothing more than a bad spray paint job. The trim has visible signs of old paint (really, cannot even sand the rough edges'). -The dryer was not even hooked up to the venting system (not to mention the wrong handle) -Dumpsters overflowing with trash -Plenty of leaking pipes -Cold water in the morning lasting up to 5-7 minutes -and now, a fitness room which is closed after 6p with a note saying the lock is broken. Oh, did I mention that in addition to rent you have to pay water, trash, sewer, etc.? No bargain here. read more

My fiance and I moved into Northampton Apartments last spring. I have been more or less happy with our time there. The community was quiet and respectful, and we never had any issues with neighbors or staff. There was ample, free parking, a gym that I found convenient for a quick workout on the elliptical or treadmill, and a well-maintained pool and playground. Having an in-unit washer and dryer was also a great perk, and we had plenty of space in our one bedroom unit.The traditional style buildings however, are not new - there are creaks and leaks that come with living with an older building. But the maintenance staff was incredibly responsive whenever we had issues - we never had to wait more than a day or two for them to come by. If you are looking for a luxury resort, this is probably not the place. But overall, it was a pleasant and comfortable place to live despite the occasional maintenance issues, and we were happy with the price and amenities. read more

Move to Northampton Largo if you enjoy being ignored, disparaged, or stolen from. Packages "are lost" by employees all of the time, service requests go unanswered for months, the conditions to break a lease are unreasonable, and any request for assistance is treated with outright hostility. My husband and I have a calendar counting down the days we can leave. Don't let the spacious rooms and new paint fool you; the appliances and fixtures are cheaply built and will not be fixed when (not if) they break. read more

DO NOT MOVE HERE. Upon moving in the first thing we noticed was the gasoline smell coming from the water faucet in the bathroom. We notified the maintenance personnel, who confirmed the smell, but nothing was done. The wall painting is horrible, the so called renovated apartments are comprised of nothing more then marble look alike counters and tiles. The walls and floors are super thin. As I write this review I can hear every word of the television show being watch in the unit above me, every word of their personal conversations, and every foot step they take. It's as if we are roommates. Parking sucks. There's no limit to how many cars each person can have and parking is not policed. At one point there were 3 disable vehicles (flat tires and all) taking parking spots close to my building. They have not moved in weeks. I notified the staff and it was at least 3 months before anything was done. Speaking of the staff the lease consultant are useless. They don't know what the heck is going on and they will tell you anything to get you out of the office. There is no feeling of community at North Hampton and there are quite a few shady characters that live there. I wish I did little more research before signing the lease. Lastly you pay for all utilities including trash, which is ridiculous because it seems as though the dumpsters are always full to the point where people begin dropping there trash in piles around the designated area. Happy hunting in your apartment search. If you're considering North Hampton then your search is far from over. Don't make the same mistake I did. read more

I just moved out of Northhampton after living there for one year. PROS: location to my job, if you do drugs you're in luck cause my old neighbor was absolutely a dealer, parking for me was only an issue on weekends after around 8PM. CONS: Office staff, except for a man named Jason, every single person there is EXTREMELY rude! You could simply be asking to pick up a package and get attitude. God forbid you go in and say "Hey I have mold in my apt"..... than its all over. Beside the fact they are rude they do not do ANYTHING they say they will do. They don't call, return calls or truly care about you at all. I reported so many things broken in my apt and they were never fixed. There was this VERY LOUD beeping noise coming from the sprinkler room outside my apt. The alarm was coming from the sprinkler system trying to alert someone of an issue. I made 9 different requests (on different days) to maintenance they came 2x and said they silenced it (why they didn't fix it we will never know). The alarm would always come back on within 8 hours. The noise was so loud you could hear it in the bedroom, it was like a terrible alarm clock going off non stop. Remember the mold I told you about? Well.... took them 3 days after I told them about it to fix it. By fix.... I mean, they sprayed it with some lime smelling cleaner, cut out part of my carpet and put a fan on it. But, they only did that to one spot not the three I had told them about. Needless to say, the mold warped by brand new bed frame and was never actually dealt with. Side note- the drug dealer next door would lay on the main stairs going to our apt. Actually lay on them while drinking a beer (talented at least). He was weird as hell, and also had a dog that he trained to attack. All in all.... why move here? They don't include ANYTHING in your rent, anyone and their mother can park here and never move their car again. The office staff was clearly hand selected for their ability to be rude. I've lived here for the past 8 months and am enjoying it. Never had an issue with maintenance. Every request has been taken care of in a timely manner. The office staff is professional and very helpful. I would recommend this apartment complex if you're looking for a convenient commute as the Largo Metro Station is literally down the street. There's an elementary school adjacent to the property, a day care center not a 1/2 mile down the street and the library is within walking distance. read more

What can I say good about Northampton besides I moved out of there after 5 plus years. When we first moved in they were under Equity Management and it was fine. But when the new company took over it went down hill fast. So let's start with the rental office I hope you never have a emergency and need to reach then. Because they never answer the phone. And if they do they are rude as if your disturbing them. I have had packages delivered to the rental office just for them to disappear. And miraculously reappear when Comcast tracked the package and told me that your box was not only signed for but somebody activated it. Then the maintenance staff are nice personally but are either told to repair things as cheaply as possible or are not trained in basic building repair services. Security is a joke within the last three years my tags have been stolen and someone vandalized my car. At one point the did hire security but he spent the nights sleep in his patrol car and his days parked next to the pool trying to pick up women. The outside grounds are never cleaned and there isn't enough trash dumpsters so people just leave there trash piled up next to the dumpsters. Would I ever refer a friend to northampton nope never. Oh and when you move out best believe they will hit you with a bill for everything. After 6 plus years they had the nerve to try to charge me for carpet replacement. If your desperate go head move into Northampton but fyi it's cheaper to rent one of the townhouses in the area. read more

Never have I ever wanted to move out of an apartment complex so badly in my life, there's always a maintenance issue, if you call maintenance they take forever sometimes 2/3 days to arrive, Within the first month of me moving there my toilet over flowed 4 times in one week, the maintenance guy told me it was fine LIES, it flooded again. I've had so many plumbing issues since I started staying here and its only been 6 months, my appliances in my apartment are crooked they aren't aligned properly it looks trashy , the dishwasher smells like mold they passed on dirty ass ice trays, my roommates sink nob completely came off and water was everywhere another plumbing issue, the light in my kitchen broke I put In several maintenance request for nobody to come I had to go to the office and physically get mad for someone to even come look at it. JUST WEEKS AGO my ceiling started leaking I called for somebody to take a look maintenance again took all day, once again I had to go get upset for somebody to come and take a look, by then my entire carpet was wet. there was mold in my living room all they did was peal off the carpet around it, CRAPY RIGHT! not to mention they charge for everything they are ,money hungry ,75$ for a lock out .if you need to open the door, the pool is always closed and they don't give you pool passes up front you have to do some type of security check, the apartment complex is trashy and they don't make residence pick up after they're pets that they charge to much for. the only person in the office who is respectful snd well mannered is Porchelle other than that The leasing staff is forgetfuland RUDE I mean you can leave messages they will say they are going to pass adown and wont, you'll never get a call back ,the book keeper is rude as hell she has a very smart mouth , they're friendly when trying to get you to move in but after that straight assholes! they never answer the residence phone you have to call 1 million times to get them to answer. not to mention they tell you your entitled to pay electric and gas but tack so much extra on to your rent its ridiculous. again MONEY HUNGRY. The kicker they take away grace periods there is no 1-5 with them if you pay late the month before you can be a day late and they'll start filling fees fucking petty! not tot mention if you don't want to renew your lease with them you have to submit something in writing or they automatically renew you what kind of shit is that .. They say the lady that was here thought it was lost and that she was evicted. i think there is more to that story than they let on. After the first night we found we messed up when the lady above came home. the floors oh man they squeak so so loud there was no sleep at all. Not to mention the paranoia due to the fact its so loud that it sound like someone in the apt. After complaining it took them 45 days just to look at it. the person below us was always cursing fighting and yelling i could hear everything so embarrassing to have company over. when they finally did work on the floor above i got worse then denise fulton said she would come herself back out and look at it. She took so long i took her to court and she still never came. Its been 5 month now and still same issue and more issues but sleep is the worse i could deal with other stuff but i need rest to do that. I've lived at Northampton in Largo, MD for almost 4 years now and highly recommend it to anyone! The office staff is really great and I've honestly never had any problems here. On top of being a perfect location and decent neighborhood, the staff is always available and know me (and my son) by name. They have good hours so you can actually talk to someone after work or on the weekends. They respond quickly to emails and are good about communicating things to the residents (inspections, paving parking lot, etc). Maintenance is also quick to respond, no matter how minor the problem. They keep the grounds beautiful and in general, everything is well taken care of. I love being able to pay my rent and make requests online. And I appreciate the resident events every few months (free breakfast, cupcakes, movie night, etc). These little things make a huge difference! Do not hesitate to call Northampton your next home.
