NBMS is a very warm and nurturing environment. I have had kids in both the infant and primary rooms. The communication between the teachers and parents is outstanding - they give personalized care, send frequent updates, and I always feel that I can reach out with any questions I have and the teachers would address them quickly. In particular, my son needed some medical assistance in the infant room and all the teachers were very responsive, taking special care with him and following instructions that I gave them, while keeping me in the loop. The primary room is also great, the class is diverse and the kids are always busy with many activities. This school is fantastic if you are looking for more of a home day care feel, all of the teachers are friendly and wonderful with the kids. read more

Our daughter started at Northbrook Montessori when she was 4 months old and is now almost 2 years old. The staff and teachers have been welcoming to us and were extremely helpful with getting us acquainted to the Montessori philosophies and understanding how they were there to support our daughter's growth. You can instantly tell that everyone who works at Northbrook Montessori has a dedicated interest in the development and care of children. She may only be a toddler, but we can tell that our daughter enjoys school days. Our daughter has been there from 2 to 3. She REALLY REALLY loves the school. When she started at the school, she cried on the dropoff on the 1st day, was clingy on the 2nd day and happily walked into class on her third day without looking back (which makes me a little sad). When she transitioned to the primary class, she liked it right away too, no crying/clinging at all! As a montessori school, her independence grew significantly. By the 2nd week, she started to insist on dressing herself at home. Later she also wants to help clean up after meals. The school lead her potty training and she got comfortable communicating and going herself in just 2 weeks. The staff is awesome. The teachers are thoughtful and the TA are very caring and attentive, and they actively communicate with us through whatsapp. The management is very accommodating for us when we were first starting out at the school and when we had some scheduling conflicts around our daughter's transition from 2-3year class to the primary class. When we had difficulty and needed to communicate with management, we felt that we were talking to people who truly care, and not a business trying to protect themselves. We started at Northbrook Montessori in August 2023 when our son was 7 months old. I looked at a lot of daycares in the area and fell in love with Northbrook Montessori as soon as I walked in. You can immediately feel that it's a calm and loving space and that has been more than true for our experience since starting. The teachers and staff are very communicative. I get pictures every day, they keep clear logs of his activities and are very flexible with his routines and work with me to problem solve through any issues my son might be experiencing. As a former early childhood educator and school administrator, I also was looking for a daycare environment that matched my values of a progressive education. Although he's only in the infant room, I already see them helping him to explore and foster his independent skills. My daughter has been attending Northbrook Montessori for over a year now. I chose this school because it is certified Montessori with a very low rate of teacher turnout, multicultural, serves a good quality lunch from a reputable supplier and it is located in the most beautiful custom-made building decorated with great interest in detail that stimulates wonder and imagination. My kid adopted and thrived in this school very smoothly. She started to gain practical skills from the first weeks and in a few months she started to form complicated sentences in English (We had been advised to speak only our native languages by a specialist, so she came to this school with zero English). Both of my children are at NBMS and we absolute love it. Our oldest is in the toddler class - she loves her teachers. There has been a noticeable increase in independence since she started, and in conjunction an increase in confidence in many aspects of her life (including a very fast potty training experience!). Our youngest is in the infant room and has the best time all day with his friends and teachers. The infant teachers are understanding and accommodating to our needs... willing to adjust in whatever way we require to meet our sons needs. Across both children, it is clear that their teachers and assistant teachers care deeply for our children. It feels good having them in an environment every day where their social, emotional and educational needs are being thoughtfully met and cared for for. Our son attended NBMS in the toddler room after we had to say goodbye to our Nanny. He was 2.5 years old when he started, and we moved him (based on location) when he turned 3. His time at NBMS was excellent, in fact, 6 months since we moved schools, and he still talks about his toddler room teachers and classmates. It's a small, family-run school with a home-like environment. The school was maintained very well and seemed to continue to pour money in to upgrade outdoor spaces throughout our time there. The curriculum nights were great and it was always clear to me that the educators valued their students' individual personalities. WE LOVE THIS SCHOOL! The caregivers are so friendly and loving. You can tell they truly care for the children. The environment is very clean and safe. I cannot speak highly enough about the program itself. The social/emotional focus has done so much for the development of my child - more than me or my husband could have ever instilled alone. My son loves the routine of hands on learning and collaborative play he experiences daily. He comes home smiling and happy, talking all about his friends, teachers, and what he did that day. My son is in the toddler class, and we think it's a great fit for him. His teachers, especially Ms. Agnes & Ms. Lynn, are very kind and nurturing. I like that the school has big windows with natural light and that the teachers help students learn the most basic skills on a consistent basis so they build good habits (ex. Hand washing, taking off shoes, setting up for snack time, cleaning up toys, etc.). The school may not be a good fit for someone who needs to know what their child is doing all the time (no app, only a weekly email and a brief update at pickup) but if you're okay with that and appreciate the Montessori style of teaching, then it may be a good place for your child. read more

This school is the one of three that belongs to a network. Considering that their first school has been around for quite some time we were hopeful for a professional outlook. The Head of schools and founder handled herself over the phone very poorly. Giving us excuses about being sick and not being able to handle our requests. She blatantly said that she does not have time for this. She was very discriminatory against my requests, my child and myself. She continued to inform me in a very rude and inappropriate manner how long some process take and that we should just join elsewhere. As a potential new parent, and as a friend of many parents who attend your school, I am sincerely disappointed in the manner in which I was spoken to and treated. We will obviously be passing on this school. In addition, I will also be reporting this appalling behavior to the following agencies to be on the record as discriminatory behavior and mismanagement. - Illinois Department of Children and family services (DCFS) - Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) - AIMS - AMS To their defense the daughter of the founder sent an email a few days later but no apology. My family loves Northbrook Montessori! Both of my granddaughters have been to Northbrook Montessori for the past two years. We moved from the city mid-year; they were able to accommodate my older one easily. My younger one started the following summer in their toddler classroom and has progressed to their 3-6. We love how kind the teachers are and helpful the entire staff is. It is a well-oiled machine, but takes the time to work with each family's unique needs. My youngest granddaughter is reading now - not because anyone is pushing her, but because she enjoys it because of the Montessori process. Their educational model is American-style Montessori, so even though there are rules to be followed, there is much nurturing and compassion that accompanies learning activities. She has learned about all different cultures since beginning school. Lunches are amazing! I am so impressed by how dynamic the girls' palettes are now & I'm almost certain its because of those lunches. We have greatly enjoyed how much fresh produce is readily available to the children daily. We are so happy that class has resumed and the girls are loving being back with their classmates and teachers at Northbrook Montessori! read more

When I first entered the school, I immediately felt right at home. Mina was drinking tea on the couches as we were talking. Fresh flowers are always on the table. The children help to cut them and put them in vases. Plants drape the banisters of the two story foyer. Mina welcomed our children by allowing them to come play on the playground for a few days before we actually started full time. Mr. Dadrass greets my children with a smile. My kids feel so loved from the first moment they arrive to school early in the morning every single day. I feel at ease every day knowing I am leaving them in good hands. When I visit the classrooms (which is often!), the children are quietly engaged. There is no yelling or loud noises. My children love to do practical life activities such as washing windows and sweeping. This responsibility has transferred to home, as they argue over who gets to sweep or vacuum first. They have become independent and we have learned to respect their independence. We were also lucky to have our children (ages 3 and 4.5 when they started) in the same primary class so they can learn to be kind and respectful of each other with the help of their amazing teachers. At first, I was surprised when I asked who was the class teacher, Mina said the teachers rotate. Then after a while, I understood, that all of the teachers help in all classrooms. My children enjoy helping in other classrooms with younger children, too. They know everyone. It is truly like a home away from home. We have become part of the Northbrook Montessori School family and they have become part of our family. read more

Northbrook Montessori has been terrific for our kids. They were very accommodating and at one point all three of our kids were attending. We've seen such an increase in their social and academic skills. Our middle child who will be starting kindergarten at the public school in the Fall is already reading books and doing multiplication tables. Our youngest (whose two) enjoys doing puzzles, singing songs, and chatting up a storm. The cost was similar to other montessori schools & day care in the area but the partial day schedule worked with our schedule. read more

As a first time mom, sending your child to school can be a daunting task let alone picking a good school. I had so many questions and reservations but all of that was immediately put to ease when I enrolled my daughter at Northbrook Montessori. The Director made it a point to address every question. The staff was friendly, accredited, knowledgeable, diverse, and not afraid to get down and dirty with the kids. Within days, I began to notice my daughter acquiring new skills and vocabulary and showcasing her newfound independence. The list of achievements were astounding. Not only did she get one on one lessons from the teacher but the leadership the older children displayed was contagious and grounds for a confidence boost. I attribute this not only to the Montessori philosophy but also to the unique way Northbrook Montessori carries out their day to day teaching.
