Bravo has a great range of beer on tap and some wild cocktail concoctions I have never seen before, so maybe I'm a little naïve in my opinion of it being a more controlled environment. Still, I feel it's a place to sling back a few beers, have a chat with mates, and either push on to a wilder destination or call it a night. Here are my 5 Top Tips for a visit to Zum Kaiser Restaurant at the Brisbane German Club. 1. Join The Club - this is a Club, not a restaurant. You need to sign in each time you visit. It doesn't take long but if there is often a queue so the way to avoid this is to join. Social membership is $5 and at present, that will take to out to the end of 2018. Simples! 2. Book Ahead - Such is the popularity of Zum Kaiser that you need to grab a booking whenever you can and on the last occasion, it was on a Wednesday afternoon at 5.30pm. Though the table was secured for 5.30, there was no actual need to start eating at that hour so you can grab some drinks from the bar to warm up for the main event. 3. Go Native - There's a huge range of German bottled beers as well as a selection on tap. Most popular are the pints of Erdinger Weissbier (wheat beer) from Bavaria. Not being a beer drinker, a ridiculous proposition in a German Club, I ordered a pint of Ampelmann Cider. For those who haven't visited Germany, Ampelmann is the little pedestrian stop/go man on the traffic lights in East Berlin. Once again I fell for the marketing about the cider being crisp and well balanced. It was light and clean but too sweet for me. I have to give them props though as this cider is brewed specifically for the German Club from 100% Australian apples so, well done for supporting local business. 4. It's All About The Pork Knuckle - Vegetarians are best left at home. It take at least 30 minutes (sometimes longer during peak times) but is worth every minute of the wait. Each pork knuckle arrives encased in crisp crackling with a side of potatoes, sauerkraut and gravy. Good filling food for the freezing Brisbane climate ; ) As it's delivered to your table, you will draw admiring glances from all around. Though there is a big bone inside, it is still a large meal. If the pork knuckle isn't for you, classics such as schnitzel, sausages and spaetzle are also on offer. Wear stretchy pants. 5. Dance This Mess Around - replete from your meal, there is an opportunity work off some of that excess energy so you can fit in a piece of strudel. Entertainer Andrew will get you up and dancing to classic pop tunes with a distinctly Bavarian twist to them. You haven't seen anything until you've seen a middle-aged man in Lederhosen playing Beyonce's Single Ladies on his Roland keyboard. When it came out, half of it was quite rare to the point of being quite bloody. He mentioned this to our waitress who apologised but no offer was made to recook or replace despite her viewing the uneaten steak on his plate. The peppercorn sauce was also missing and we had varying portions of vegetables. I was given 6 potatoes + broccolini and beans while he received 4 potatoes with 3 beans (so minimal the amount was obvious). While annoying, we brushed that aside given the restaurant was extremely busy at the time. Come dessert and I was halfway through mine when I noticed something long and stringy hanging off my spoon. Initially I thought it was hair but it turned out to be a long strand of what I can only assume was cling wrap. We immediately informed our waitress and were offered another amid apologies to which I refused given I was feeling quite put off at this point. We ended up leaving immediately at this point and aside from an apology at the register, nothing else was offered. Will not be back and based on our experience, do not recommend at all.

Staff are attentive and service is speedy, the owner of the restaurant is an absolute Gem, always greets with a smile and exceptionally friendly. Tucked away inside rosalie village parking can be an issue but even parking two blocks over wont deter me from maintaining this good relationship. Catering for a guest who had a food allergy seemed rather difficult task, featuring multiple trips to the chef. Meals were bought out but the waitresses played guess who's is cooked to order with the steak and fish. No one received designated mediums and medium-rares and well dones. The seafood risottos had one scallop one prawn each. Sounds like a fishing story where they think bigger than they actually are. Not putting something on a pizza or meat in a salad as per stated in a menu was rather amusing it appeared. The salad was returned and fixed fairly fast. The pizza was a disaster, featuring a rude and obnoxious waitress (who by the way was uptight, believed in speaking back to the customer and had an attitude problem from the beginning), ended in extremely upset guests who left early, together with my appetite. Another waitress eventually took over the mess and the chef apologised several times and offered amends in the usual fashion but the damage was done, the night was ruined, free shit and apologies mean nothing when you run your business like that, allow staff to treat customers so rudely, and screw up an important evening. NOT what I expected from a seasoned local restaurant who we have supported so often. It saddens me to write a review like this, but I am dearly hurt by such an experience.

Hidden away amongst the apartment blocks, this little cafe is a real gem. The staff were really friendly, and they made a pretty decent cup of tea (though I decided to takeaway rather than sit down and enjoy it since I had other places I needed to visit before sundown). The best part about this place was that I could see that they were closing up, but they were more than happy to make me a beverage, which I always appreciate in a business person - too many simply say 'sorry, we're closed' letting you go and spend your money elsewhere.
