I came here because I heard about the pumpkin ride. The ride is a short maybe 5 minute ride through the back of the nursery building. They take you to a small area that has goats and chicken. This is ideally for little kids. There is not much to do or see, but it's cute. The maze is short so that the kids can enjoy. They let us take home a little pumpkin. When we got back to the main nursery area they also provided a tiny cup of apple cider. With so many other big farms in the area I don't think I'll be returning for any fall activities here.

Instead, it's a garden store mixed with decor, chachkees, unique items, and a little book nook + coffee/tea shop. During the Christmas season, this would be an amazing place to get a thoughtful, curated gift. They had the MOST unique, handcrafted ornaments. (I love weird, different decor and this is definitely the spot for it.) The prices are a little elevated, but certainly worth the gems you'll find here. When we strolled around, we found multiple accessible greenhouses. There was a cute station with a seat for Santa, and a warm greenhouse with chairs and tables where I could just sit forever. An artist's paradise! My mother-in-law shared that the decor and layout changes every season. Can't wait to stop by now that it's spring to see what this beautiful spot has morphed into. It's not a huge property but they have it laid out in such a way that it feels like it is. Pathways adorned with sculptures, fountains and archways leading through gardens of unique plants organized by theme and exposure. Plants that do well in shade are located in shady areas. Those that do well in sun are in sunny spots, etc. There is a cafe located on the property where you can get a very proper latte, cappuccino, espresso and enjoy it in a garden setting complete with vintage and rustic tables and chairs. They also have a little gift shop with plant themed decor and accessories. I have been a La Serra customer for a few years now. It used to feel like a best kept secret kind of place. However, the secret is apparently out. It can get pretty busy from time to time. But go with the flow. Even when busy it's still a great way to chill for an hour or so. Check it out.

It's hard to find a place that can provide straw bales that can guarantee they haven't been treated with pesticides and herbicides, but Metlars Farms said they could. Prices were extremely reasonable, and delivery was incredibly fast: 24 hours after making the call, I had 20 straw bales in my garage! The straw is great, and we are seasoning it for planting in May! They make the bales a little longer than average, for planting purposes. This is a very friendly and knowledgeable place, who didn't seem to think it was the least bit crazy to deliver all that straw to a postage stamp yard in a pretty urban suburb. We are hoping to become regular customers if all goes well this year! Excellent service and so far, a product that seems like it will be perfect for gardening.
