This is the worst Home Depot around. The staff never wants to assist. When you can grab someone and ask them where something is, begrudgingly, they pull out their little handheld contraptions because they could care less where anything is. The parking lot is ATROCIOUS! Not conducive for contractor pickups at all. In the spring and summer, half of it is taken up with shrubs, plants, and flowers. Meanwhile, the Bed, Bath, and Beyond complex, RIGHT NEXT DOOR, stands empty. That would make a perfect spot for the Home Depot. read more

I did not need help during my visit here but after watching employees standing around talking when the line is 10 customers long was frustrating enough I saw Employees giving attitude and an annoyed look when customers ask for help. During this one visit I saw this happen twice by two different employees. One employee started to take people who just got on the back of the line rather than people who were standing in the front... I go to this Home Depot a lot because of the convenience. If I can make the purchase elsewhere, I will. This is the worst Home Depot. I will look up the item online so I know where it is and then use self checkout. At this store, the employees should be replaced by machines. I'm not sure why they have employees anyway. I've never seen any of them actually do anything. Nobody has ever said, "can I help you?" Never! There have been times that I've asked for help and rather than them show you to an item, they say "oh yeah it's in isle 23" and they keep moving. It wasn't even in isle 23. I have taken drastic measures to try and get assistance in this place. One time I took a shovel and continued to bang it on the ground loudly expecting somebody to ask me to stop, and then I can ask them to help me with a rug. I have found employees hanging out in one of the corner isles avoiding having to ignore customers face to face. I regularly use the latter myself to get items down from high places. I used their power saw. They get one star because they have somebody who actually does mix paint. He isn't very friendly and it takes a while, but he does it. I recommend you look for your product elsewhere before going to this store. If you must go, find your product online so you don't need assistance. Bring a credit or debit card so you don't need assistance for that either. Make sure you're buying the right product because you will not want to go back here to return it. read more

Call the store to speak to the curbside people. No answer. Call customer service and get a nasty representative. Said I wanted to cancel my order and she said I have to return it. I scanned the wrong barcode at self-checkout. The girl who is working here yelled at me for scanning the wrong bar code. She showed me a piece of paper in her hand, asked me to scan the piece of paper. I did what she asked. As I continued to try to find the correct bar code, she keeps yelling at me: "Scan the barcode." If I knew where the correct bar code was I wouldn't end up being yelled at, right? Your customer is here making a purchase, of course, your customer is not as familiar with everything as you do, maybe it takes them a few seconds to find the right barcode. Do not give them an attitude. What made me more upset was after giving me the attitude, the worker walked up to the person next to me, and asked so nicely:" how can I help you?" so she has no problem helping people or speaking nicely. Just awful service. I put a curbside pickup order in at 715 am yesterday. Seven hours later I went to the store. I was advised due to overwhelming demand it would take a day or two to get all four items in my $7 order to get picked. Delays picking an order despite there being four employees lounging around hiding behind a partition in the Pro area chatting leasurely. I wish I could give this location less than 1 star. They literally refuse to give me a $800+ refund the store management and personnel agree is due and owing because of a "glitch" in their system. This store seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes when I go there seems to be nobody working (usually when I desperately need help finding something). Other times, there are a decent number of associates working, but very few of them will approach you. If you need help, you really have to seek it out here. I feel like some customer service training would help resolve this issue. I have done "Buy online, pick up in-store" several times from this location. More than once the item was stated as being "in-stock" online, but I received a notice stating it was not. This was a pretty disappointing experience, but luckily the Clifton location was able to complete the order for me. Parking here can be a mess, particularly in the summer/spring months. People pull up to the curb and block traffic to load their cars. It's not a very spacious lot, so this can be frustrating. It's an accident waiting to happen. I also have brought my dog inside and in the garden area - which I'm pretty sure is not allowed, but it's a lot of fun! The employees seem to appreciate it. read more

Americas in a bad place. When people who are working for a company like Home Depot have absolutely no desire to help a customer it makes me wonder what happened to customer service. I recently went online and saw that this particular Home Depot in Totowa New Jersey had nine of a specific vanity for the bathroom. Upon arriving at 7:00 PM it took me 10 minutes to hunt down in orange apron. Once I did the lacks a days ago person came to the bay looked at me and said this is only available online. Scratching my head I went home looked it up again to learn that the next morning they had 11 of the same vanity. Early the next morning I went directly to customer service, who less than gleefully told me it's probably out of stock. When I produce my phone to show that they had 11 of them she rolled her eyes and reluctantly searched, never spoke to me and then called over a person to help her find one It was only after I gave five dollars to that person but he smiled at me. This is what it's come to. You have to tip somebody before the service at Home Depot to get service. If I weren't in an emergency scenario of needing this vanity I would've walked out Somehow I think as Americans were OK with paying less money for things and poor service. They tend to have things in stock, but if you have any questions, go to another one. If you get there and realize an item is in the back, leave and go to another one. Totowa Home Depot employees have not known what they had in stock any time I asked. I am waiting over a half hour for one item at this point. All the employees seem so confused and dumbfounded when I've asked anything. I was at the service desk, and they told the girl who would help me in garden to meet me by the mulch. Not realizing who exactly I was waiting for, I saw her walk away as I was approaching. Apparently 2 minutes was too long for her to wait for me to walk from the service desk to the mulch. Even if this is your closest Home Depot, you'd probably get what you need faster if you drove out of your way to go to the next nearest one. read more

Absolute garbage. I went in looking for an item, the associate can't find it, tells me to order online. Ok, I think, I've seen before when the stock shown online and what's actually in the store don't match up. So, I order online with a $79 delivery fee. I say, ok it's a patio table. That's pretty big so I get it. So, I place my order. There is no indication on my order anywhere that it is coming from store stock and not the warehouse they usually use for online orders. Half of my order shows up because it was pulled from the Paterson store. Guys are rude but whatever. I call to ask where the rest of my order was. After getting the runaround for a few minutes I come to learn that my order was being pulled from....this store. So, I could have saved myself 2 days and nearly $80 if they guy had just looked. But, again, I figure this dude isn't being paid enough to care so fine. The delivery window is 6 am to 8 pm. That's 14 hours. You have to figure they can make all the scheduled deliveries when they have 14 whole hours. Nope. They showed up 2 hours late. After 10 pm. Didn't ring my doorbell. No alert at all they were there. Perfectly happy to leave the stuff out in my driveway in the rain all night. Oh, and then after all that, management refused to refund my delivery fee. Never ordering anything from Home Depot online again. read more

Why is it every time I going to Home Depot I feel as if I'm bothering employees with questions ? Holy employees recently doing something and customer seem to be a secondary issue with them. I've given up on asking questions and prefer to do all the research myself now. The only time I seem to be approached is when they're trying to sell me something I don't want, like roofing or siding or solar power. ( I would want solar power but I can't do it) I'd also avoid getting keys made here as I've had issues with the keys not working properly. As most big-box stores employees don't seem to know anything outside of their location and you're lucky if you can find them in their location. Once again it seems to be a company that corporate management has outgrown the company and is now running from the inside. One example is that there's never enough registers open here. But the more than glad to open self check-out so we can do their job for them. Once again the mom-and-pop stores that they've pretty much put out of business for the better places to go if you can still find them go there! read more

The shop itself is okay, and the people working at the christmas tree lot were nice. The guys who tied the tree to our car today did a piss poor job of it, as the tree came loose and almost slid off the car twice (in less than 3 miles) on the Parkway. If you're gonna come here for a tree, either bring a pickup truck or look elsewhere, unless you too want to want the thrill of trying to readjust a tree with loose wire while traffic zips by you at 80mph read more

I was recently at the Totowa, NJ store. I requested assistance from a salesperson I required an adapter for a water pump and that would connect to a garden hose.. The young guy obviously didn't know what he was doing and after wasting my time for more than 15 minutes in the garden areas, he indicates you need to go to the plumbing department. I stopped on my way home to find out what time the nursery closed because I needed 25 bags of mulch. The man told me 8pm. I went home to get my truck and got there at 6:30 the nursery was closed. The lady said they had no one to run the register so they closed the department. Meanwhile there had to be 7-10 employees just standing around! I had to make two trip myself around the store to get the mulch. No one offered to help!!! Once I was outside a young man Joel offered to help me and did so twice. He felt bad about what had happened. Thank you Joel! The inside of the store is terrible...very poor customer service. They should hire more people like Joel!. read more

I always go to this HD because it is convenient. However there is rarely anyone in the aisles to offer help. Today I wanted to purchase several items. I looked online and found the 4 items I wanted to purchase and jotted down the aisle and bay #. I waited until later in the day to go. Of course when I got there 2 of the items were not on the shelf (both were in the same aisle & bay) Not the first time this has happened. I finally saw a worker walking by and asked if there was anyone working in the section. It apparently wasn't his section, but he was nice enough to help. I showed him one of the items on my phone. He found a pallet of the item but it was way up on top of the shelving. He said because it was 8:00 pm, there was probably no one around that drives the lift needed to bring it down. The store is open until 10:00 pm. I didn't bother to have him check the other item, but it probably would be the same answer. I found my other 2 items no problem. If HD has an employee shortage, then the employees that are there should restock shelves when they are empty and/or revise their website so that when it says there are 30 of a product available then they should be available within reach of the customer. I usually don't leave the store as livid as I did today. I'm thinking of ordering the items online with in store pickup. It says it would be ready tomorrow, but who knows how many days it will take for someone to take the pallets down, so my order can be filled. Tomorrow is Sunday. Does a lift driver work on Sunday??? read more

Unlike my review for the Home Depot in Los Angeles, I have all good things to say about this one. The Staff is responsive. It's easy to find someone to ask questions. And they know their inventory. Today I forgot one of my bags when I was checking out. I came back frantically 20 minutes later and they had set the bag aside and they said thrybknew someone would eventually realize it was missing and come back and so they didn't flag it as a return which is protocol. read more

We stopped by to pick up some spray lubricant for plastic hinges and there was a good display/selection. I needed to install carpet in an apartment quickly, so I used Home Depots' '72 Hour' carpet...I already knew the carpet style, colour and padding type as well as the area that needed to be covered...I walked in with my credit card in hand and had trouble finding a store associate to help with my purchase...Once they did, the process was very tedious... She attempted to upsell me on everything...Upgraded padding, better carpet, custom install, etc...I already knew what I wanted and was ready to pay - don't make it difficult...But in 30 minutes or so, we were done...I got to the register to pay and they only charged me $30...???...This was the initial charge for the measurement and only the first step in a very difficult process... It took them three days to come and measure!..I returned to the store to schedule an install date and pay the rest of the fees, but they wouldn't let me until the measurement guy submitted his data and they could study it...ARGH... Two more days later, I got a phone call (from yet a different party) asking me to schedule an install date...Three days later, the guys came to install it... Evidently, the '72 Hour' carpeting does not mean in your home, it means 72 hours to come out and measure, then 72 hours for them to review the data, then 72 more hours to come and install it... Each very difficult step takes 72 hours and is a different company, NOT HOME DEPOT...Each step also is accompanied by a trip to HD for a certain charge - the measure fee, the down payment and the residual...The last of which is due AFTER the install... Dear HD - I have the same carpet in my home right now and all I want is a replacement...I know what I want and want to pay for it without playing any games...In such a bad economy, why make it so difficult to take my money... read more

First I'll start by saying I was measured by two companies and HD over measured. The only reason I chose HD was because I needed it installed asap and the other company couldn't promise that. I should have went with the other company,(because they were cheaper and didn't charge for measuring) because HD never installed on the day as promised. I will say that the employees at the store were very nice and tried to help me to get the installers in sooner. However, their customer service is horrendous and will be the cause of them losing out to their competitors which will inevitably be the reason they close their doors. read more

Came here a second time in less than a week and on a rainy day. Most people waited out the torrential downpour in the store, and while that happened, my sister and I were approached by at least 4 friendly employees. Everything from a simple, but very generous greeting to asking if we needed help selecting products and retrieving them. On that day, we came in to buy some paint, and I will say the one working at the station was slow. He didn't recognize our presence even though there were only two painstakingly slow people in front of us. Whatever. Probably spent 50-100k in the last 2 years at HD either Paramus, Mahwah or East Hanover. Never really had an issue. Today I had to stop in to pick one thing up on the way to a 4th of July outing. 90 degrees outside so I brought the dog in. No issues all the way to the back of the store. An associate then gives me attitude and says "no dogs". Ive never had an issue with my dog. I said that Ive never had an issue and Ill grab what I need and leave. I was told I should have left her in the car. I responded that it was 90 degrees out and the associates reply was that I should have left her home and I need to leave now. I told her that her attitude and customer service sucks and Ill do my business elsewhere. Im sure Lowes will be happy to take my money from now on. read more

If I could give this HD zero stars I would! The WORST customer service ever. Last night my husband and I went to get some hoses and hose storage. We find the hose storage and the two on the floor were broken. We look online it says the location has 48 in stock. We look at the boxes above but couldn't tell by the numbers if it was the same one. We stop an employee and show him and he's like "yeah if it's not there it's out of stock!" and walks away. I stood there fuming because WTF. Anyway my husband grabs a ladder and brings a box down from the shelf and guess what??? It was the friggin item we were looking for! I have no clue why this place has any employees when they don't do a damn thing but avoid helping customers. This is the first time this has happened here but the response of the employee made me so angry. Seriously HD needs to re-evaluate who they are hiring. read more
