I was visiting Burlington and wanted to check out the local yarn shops. This one did not disappoint. Huge selection of yarns of different fibers and weights of multiple price points. I appreciated that the owner did not harass me and just let me browse at my own pace. I find the extreme up-selling to be a bit of a turnoff at other yarn stores. I would have appreciated an offer to wind my skeins, however. That is my only criticism! read more

The Northeast Fiber Arts Center (while slightly off the beaten path) is a great find. They have a large selection of fiber, classes not only for knitting but also for spinning and weaving, and a cheerful black lab who will greet you at the door with a sniff and a wagging tail. The main reason for a low rating is that when they ran out of white in a common fiber that they had a full stock of and I asked them to order more, they said they would do it. After 3 months they still hadn't. I went to Kaleidoscope in Essex Junction and they ordered it for me even though they don't even carry that brand regularly and it arrived in 10 days. read more

This is a nice shop. They had a variety of weights of mostly wool yarns, though they did have some cottons and linens. The employee (owner?) who assisted me was very helpful in showing me around the store, and she did say they usually have more cottons for the summer. I would have liked if they had a selection of bamboos and acrylic (contentious subject at yarn stores, I know) - but I find that yarn stores cater to wools and alpaca 99% of the time, so this was a bummer but not surprising. Though the selection of yarns they do have is a variety of weights, textures (I was tempted by a very soft malabrigo they had even though I'm not a wool knitter) - and their prices are reasonable. They had some non-wool Noro, which was a surprise. Roving and felting supplies in the back, knitting needles behind the counter, a clearance yarn section (always appreciated), as well as sashiko supplies which was a nice treat! They also had some buttons, nice little rolls of yarn, and some very cool sock kits by the register. And an old gray-faced chocolate lab to acknowledge you at the door! The lady at the register and the dog at the door were both very sweet. They didn't have exactly what I was hoping for, though I did get some nice embroidery supplies and I would take a trip to this store again. read more

I absolutely love this store Jennifer and the other ladies that work there are always so helpful. Jennifer ordered the yarn that I needed and also let me know when it was in. I have been shopping there for close to 15 years will always shop local for a small business like this. I recommend anyone wanting to buy beautiful yarn and amazing patterns stop by and enjoy the experience. I was just a beginner knitter when I started going there and Jennifer always helped when I got stumped by a pattern. I just can't say enough good things about this wonderful store. read more

It took months, but I finally got a helpful assistant on the phone who quickly refunded the extra $9 they charged me. I was frustrated that I spent nearly $200 there and they were arguing with me about a $9 that clearly didn't fit in with the other types of purchases I made. But they did refund it and my trip to Vermont is coming up again so I plan to return. read more

I like the product selection, but the owner is so rude that I just can't support this store. She has some helpers who are nice, but sometimes she's there by herself, and is always so short with me that I feel like I'm intruding. On the plus side, she offers a good variety of classes. I think she likes to teach more than she likes to work retail. read more

They have a very large stock of natural fiber yarns and roving and weaving supplies. they don't really want to special order anything, even if it's something they carry, (so if you're one skein short, well, you can wait til next spring when they're going to order that color again, because you only want one) and be prepared for a $10 minimum credit card charge even though they don't have a sign saying so. read more

I would not shop here again. The woman - I believe the owner - was completely rude to me and my friend. We were not greeted at all, and when we asked a few questions, we were treated as if we were interrupting her. The shop had a pretty good selection, but it was filthy and I do not recommend it. Maybe my favorite shop in the Burlington area - I can understand the other reviewers frustration, because I can imagine that if you aren't from the area and have to deal with the staff over the phone, it could be really frustrating. They are a small team of people and not very tech-savvy compared with somewhere like Kaleidoscope that does a good deal of their business online. That said, if you DO live in VT, this place is great. If you talk to the staff in person they are great - they have a really awesome selection and I generally find that whatever Kaleidoscope doesn't have they have at NEFA and vice versa. If you are very new to knitting and want to walk into a place where someone will check up on you all the time, this probably isn't the place (like I said, it's a very small team running the store and there's only so much they can juggle at once) but it IS a goldmine of yarn. One of the reasons I like this place better than Kaleidoscope is that it has so many great sales. The last time Kaleidoscope had a sale (in my memory) was two years ago, whereas this place has several a year, and sometimes they are really amazing, such as the one I just went to last weekend that was full of $1 and $3 skeins of some amazing stuff. I paid 8 dollars for high-quality yarn, and enough of it to make an entire sweater. This is something you will never find with Kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope also carries a lot more of the super-fancy, super high-end yarns and a lot less of the basics - things you might use for kid's clothing, superwash, baby blankets, etc. read more

I ordered two skeins of yarn online. It never arrived. I called them multiple times and no one ever called back. I finally had to dispute the charge. I do not think this is a nice way to treat customers near or far away. read more

I had the pleasure so I thought while visiting with family members this past X-mas for a last minute stop before returning home to Florida to check out the eye candy at this shop. After returning from our trip I looked at the receipt and notiiced that I had been charged for an extra skein of yarn. Was it a mistake or maybe not?
