my cats paw was swollen so I call Northeast Veterinary Hospital. they were able to fit me in so I put my sick crying cat in his carrier and got him over to the Northeast Veterinary Hospital in Peabody. I got there and no one could find his appointment on the calendar. I pushed and described the woman I spoke to who booked the appointment. they located the appointment but the woman booked in 3 days in the past. so the staff told me to go home and that they would try to see him a couple hours later. the cat was crying and stressed from the ride over. How cruel. no one seemed to care about his health or well being. I came back and was squeezed into see Dr Steve logsdon. I warned him that my cat bites when stressed and that he should wear gloves. But no he didn't listen and my cat nipped him in the finger. Nothing serious but the dramatic performance put on by the "doctor" should have earned him an oscar. My poor cat was breathing seriously and was told he could go into a seizure.the cat was fine when I brought him to the hospital the first time but the stress from the staff making him leave and come back hours later was too much for him. My cat was 19. Well the doctor told me that I was causing him stress by trying to comfort him. Doc never apologized for mixing up his appointment and having to bring a sick cat back home then back again. Never apologized just blamed me for trying to comfort the cat. He yelled at my sick cat for nipping his finger. Then made us sign paperwork that he got bit. This doctor was over the top. Why wasn't he wearing gloves like most other vets? I told him to wear gloves. Then he told me that my cat needed to be put down. This made no sense to me. The cat was stressed from the doctor mishandling him and from being sent home twice. He then put him down. Instead of allowing us to cry etc he scurried us out into the waiting room with an empty cat carrier to pay for the miservices his office caused My husband and I were unconsolable. They made us wait in a line to pay up instead of having the decency to pay in private. Many other pet owners in the waiting room told us they were disgusted at how we were treated. Their normal process is to pay in private and to leave our s back door. Thank you for screwing up his vet appointment. I blame your office for causing him the stress that took his poor life. Do better . I called a few days later and asked what the process was when a pet is put down. The office manager was shocked when I told her what happened. Why were we treated differently,? Avoid this hospital. Their poor communication, lack of processes in place, lack of empathy, and judgement is going to get them in serious trouble someday. Do better. Treat people better. I should have read the poor reviews. I will forever feel guilty for beinging my pet there. read more

I took my elderly 14-year-old cat there yesterday for an examination and I don't know who the tech was but she was really rough with him to the point where he was hissing and growling my cat is not an aggressive cat he's never been aggressive and he's never done anything like that before when I said I was embarrassed I wasn't talking about my cat I was talking I was embarrassed to even be there to know that there's people like that there the doctor was nice I don't remember her name but she was very nice but the tech she wasn't good at all with him and he was so traumatized when he came home that he he kept hiding under the bed he come out to eat and come and sit with me for about 10 or 15 minutes and then go right back under the bed and he was under the bed all this morning I would not recommend these people to my my friends at all I'm so upset and so disappointed and so embarrassed that I even went there please don't take your pets there now as long as the texts are there and they don't treat the animals right the exam wasn't even that great. I should have looked at reviews before I went there it was my own stupidity not to next time I find a new vet I will look up reviews first so please if you have an elderly cat or a young cat or a elderly dog or a young dog steer clear of them. read more

We have always had exceptional care here. They are compassionate and loving toward our dog. We have noticed the prices to have increased quite a bit, so we will request tech appts for small visits, or things like vaccines, rather than seeing the actual doctor. This was my first visit to Northeast Vet. Hostpital. My kitty of nine years is a polydactyl and often gets ingrown nails. I wasn't able to get an appointment that worked with my schedule at the place I normally take her, and I was afraid of infection, so based on reviews I gave these guys a call. Kathy, one of the receptionists, helped me book my appointment next day (but not after speaking condescendingly of my indoor kitty not being neutered). When I went in for my appointment, I waited patiently at the desk because both Kathy and Erin were either on the phone or helping other people. Kathy finished her phone call, and then proceeded to not help me, but sit there and sort of mumble to herself about something? Not sure exactly what was going on there, and that's okay. Erin helped me check in. After I sat down at the bench directly in front of the desk, Kathy turns to Erin and says something along the lines of, "What was that girl doing? They're not together? I was wondering why she was standing there -" Yes, please just talk about me as I sit here in front of you. God forbid you ask if you could help me with something as I stood in line! I'm not even going to waste my time describing the details of the un-professionalism that I witnessed while waiting in the exam room. Whatever common room/office that is behind the exam doors is NOT soundproof. Again, EVERYBODY in the exam rooms can hear you. I didn't wait long, but it was long enough with that noise. Not to mention I had a terrified cat with me - Aren't you supposed to be animal people? Don't animal people understand that loud noises (particularly shrieking, slamming doors) scare small animals? Don't animal people understand that cats bite and scratch when they're scared, and that dogs poop? I can't understand why, in an animal hospital, I was hearing these teenage girls complain like no other about these trivial things (and much more!). The vet/dr seemed knowledgeable and was able to help fix up my kitty in a matter of minutes, which relieved me. She said her goodbyes and left the exam room, so I was putting my kitty back in her carrier when I noticed that this woman so kindly just left my cat's paws to bleed out on their counter. I took a picture because the care that goes into this place is truly laughable. Being the kind of person I am, I was grinning and bearing it all through this visit. If my kitty gets an infection from the open wounds she was left with, I will be back, a lot less kind. Two stars for price (which was reasonable given the next day appointment) and the fact that the initial cause for my visit technically was resolved. read more

First let me start off by saying that Northeast Veterinary Hospital are just in the Veterinarian business for the money. I took one of my Beagles there for breathing problem's and they did all sorts of test including blood work x-rays and a Ultrasound, they said they could not find anything wrong with her. The bill was over $600.00 dollars they told me to come back for a follow up visit a couple of day later For more money which she ended up dyeing that night. We called them the next morning to tell them that she died and they did not show any remorse. No sorry to hear that or nothing, the only thing they asked if we were going to have her cremated with them and they would send us a package on how much it would cost us. Again more money! Second. Two weeks ago we brought our Beagle Coon hound mix to them for a Tumor in her mouth again same testing as before but this time they sent it out for a Biopsy more money it came back as a aggressive Cancer and that they recommended that we go to one of there specialist to see that they could do. They gave her three weeks to live. We took her to a Vet in Fryeburg Maine that we use to use before Covid we had her file sent over to them they reviewed them they told use to bring her in they set up an appointment did the surgery and removed the whole tumor two weeks ago. I just received a phone call from the Vet in Fryeburg Maine that the Biopsy that they took after they remover the tumor she is now cancer free. the whole bill including Meds and follow up visit was $1200.00 dollars and I have my dog that was going to die in two to three weeks. If I would have listened to them I would have lost another dog. I got quoted a price of almost $5,000 dollars between Northeast and there so called specialist. So as I stated before it's all about the money not the pet's welfare first. read more

Our dog started having seizures at age 6 they put him on keppra- no work up done, 5 months later we took him in for balance issues and he was yelping in pain. They diagnosed him with a back sprain, did no neuro exam he got progressively worse and every time we called they prescribed more pain meds-rimadil, gabapentin over the phone. I asked when I should worry they said give it two more weeks. I said he was acting odd they said it was the gabapentin. Finally we brought him to the animal hospital in Woburn where they noted him to be blind, in severe pain due to myeloencephalitis, he would have died regardless but I'm angry that he spent weeks suffering, scared, and in pain because they don't know how to do a physical exam and they should have referred us to the emergency services sooner if they had no availability. I was in last week for vaccinations on my cat. While I was waiting to check out, a young woman came in with her dog to see the vet. The dog was having tummy trouble, and while the owner was talking to the vet technician, the dog started pooping. By the time the owner turned around and saw what had happened, there were about 5 small piles of poop. She apologized profusely and one of vet technicians behind the counter said "No problem. We see this all the time." Another vet technician (Maureen) gathered paper towels and disinfectant spray and started cleaning up the poops. However, she grumbled the entire time in a volume loud enough to be heard from 10+ feet away. She even went as far as saying "Why don't you take your dog outside while you wait?" even though it was a bitterly cold December day. She smiled after she said it, but you could tell that she was dead serious. The young woman went outside for a few minutes and all the while, Maureen continued complaining. Finally, another vet technician took over and completed the cleanup without a word. I think Maureen's behavior was extremely rude, and so did the young woman. This is part of her job, and it's also part of her job to be compassionate with sick animals who come to the clinic. No other staff person chastised Maureen, but I hope this 1-star review gets their attention. Maureen is in the wrong job and should never be allowed to work the front counter again. I am taking my business elsewhere. This place is just extremely inconsistent in the quality of its service and the professionalism of the staff. TWICE, not once but twice this place has cleared their schedule and taken our cats for a next day life saving surgery so my boys would not die due to bladder blockage issues. The most recent visit we saw Dr Dipierro. He was so great. My cat had to stay inpatient for four nights after his surgery to treat diabetes and he called us every morning when he got in after examining him and every night before he headed home to update us on how he was doing. He never lost patience with my husband even when he was asking fifty questions and keeping him at work longer (or with me asking questions from the background). I can also talk about how reasonably priced they are. Woburn animal hospital wanted $8,000 to do an exploratory surgery to determine what this large fluid filled mass was, which for some reason they could not figure out even with a $600 ultrasound was his bladder blocked and full of pee. Northeast Veterinary only charged us around $1000 for the surgery. I 100% recommend this place and they have gained life long patients with us because of how prompt, compassionate and skilled they are. I do wish they had someone there 24 hours for emergencies but they are a hospital so they can do any of the surgeries your pet may need and are very good about making the time for you if your pet needs it. read more

Today was our first visit to NVH, with our recently adopted dog for a introductory visit/check up. We were referred by the shelter we adopted our dog through. Front desk staff was very prompt & friendly & we were seen quickly. The tech who worked us up was a doll! I wish I could remember her name-she's also an animal behaviorist & was very sweet & helpful. We were seen by Dr. Logsdon, who was also very kind, easy going, & thorough. Pricing was reasonable & that place was CLEAN. They treated us like we were another check to cash. We waited a long time to see the vet even though we had an appointment and it was not busy. I brought my 81 year olds dad's black lab to northeast veterinary hospital after his local vet told us that she has two bladder stones. We had x rays and a ultra sound showing where the two bladder stones where. The dr at the northeast hospital assured us that he can do the surgery and did know where the 2 bladder stones where after looking at the ultra sound report. When we brought the dog there she was straining to urinate due to the 2 bladder stones. The dr told us he will call us as soon as possible to do surgery The next day we got the call to bring her in the next day at 8 am We where meet with the owners dr. Dr buzz he explained everything and said to come back at 6pm we did and he went over the surgery.He then showed us 1 BLADDER STONE......we said there where 2 he then said it must of got flushed out both me and my sister looked at each other We brought her to my dad the dog went to go urinate and was straining just like she was when we brought her there WE then called right back and said YOU MISSED the other BLADDER STONE He said don't worry it takes time to heal. the next day we called again the owner got on the phone and said the same old song and dance. we waited another 2 days and brought her back in the POOR dog was still straining . WE keeped saying YOU missed the stone they now gave us meds which was useless A WEEK to the. Day she was Rushed to the ANGELL Memeral in BOSTON She had stopped urinating and had a full bladder they keeped her over drained her bladder did surgery and sure Enough. There was the 1 bladder stone we where telling northeast was still in her that they forget to take out. My dad's dog was in so much pain it was heartbreaking $5,300 later angell in Boston did the job that she of been done at northeast They call themselves caring if you did the job right my dad's dog wouldn't of had to suffer and have two major surgerys in 7 days and THOUSANDS of collards later for you mistake and neglect You should be ashamed of yourselves read more

I've been here twice now, once with each of my cats. The last time I visited my previous vet, I wasn't pleased with the attention my cat got, so I was intrigued when an animal hospital opened in a location that is practically walkable from where I live. I've been accused of being a crazy cat person, and while I don't agree with that label, I'm certainly crazy about my pets, and want the best for them. I decided to visit NVH after a rave review from my parents, who'd brought their newly acquired kitten here a few months ago. On separate visits, they saw both Dr. Newman and Dr. DePiero and were pleased with both. Since then, I've taken my Henry and Grace there, and they've both received excellent care. On both visits, I've seen Dr. Newman and found him to be very knowledgeable and kind to my furry friends. All other staff that I've met there has been highly professional and again, kind. The pricing has been reasonable and the place is immaculate. I highly recommend giving NVH a try, and am excited to have a practice that I like and trust so close to home. read more

My dog Kessler is INCREDIBLY anxious at the vet and lashes out. It's difficult for him to be seen and of course, he's always getting sick. Oy vey. Dr. Logsdon has been very patient and kind with Kessler. He has NEVER gotten annoyed at visits where Kessler is so anxious that he can't be seen (and never charge us - even if it took an hour of his time). He instead, worries about what is best for Kessler. We now have to sedate Kessler prior to any vet visits and they are masters at it. Ashley is incredibly confident and knows her stuff. When we went back to see X-rays, both Dr. Logsdon and Ashley were petting him (even though he is sedated) as they talked. It just shows they truly love the animals they are helping. Such a small gesture, but seeing them pet him as they talked about his diagnosis spoke volumes as to the type of people they are. I've been very confident in this hospital and staff. I wouldn't take him anywhere else. read more

Phoned after surgery told us the cat was recuperating well. 1 hour later Buzz phoned a second time to say she had stopped breathing and was Neurology dead. I just recently went here for the first time and I couldn't have been happier. I was extremely unhappy with my old vets office and made an appointment here for my fur babies after my mother highly recommended them. My first visit with my Allie cat went really well. I saw Dr Newman who really took his time with her and was extremely thorough. I had asked my old vet to send over all of my cats records and when I arrived here they had only received some. Despite the fact that Buzz had limited information on Allie he was more than amazing with her. He examined her and immediately recognized that she had a heart murmur (which should have been sent over in her file but wasn't). Allie is a mainecoon and is prone to heart disease as is. Not having any of her blood work on file it was recommended that she have it done again to check everything and make sure she didn't have cancer, cardiomyopathy or any other disease related to her murmur. Being 11 years old Allie can be a bit cranky and tough to deal with but they handled her with care and were extremely patient. They drew blood and they even trimmed her claws while she was back there. Buzz also opened my eyes about Blue Buffalo cat food. Per recommendation of my old vet, and due to a very picky eating kitty, I switched to Blue without being aware of the side effects. Buzz told me that he has seen more cats with crystals in there urine due to being fed blue and that they were bought out at some point and there food had changed. Before this I hadn't a clue that pet food isn't FDA regulated. He was super helpful and wrote down three great brands of food that would be good for my cats and even tested Allie for crystals, which sure enough she had! I immediately switched there food and I have much happier animals! Buzz even ordered me Allies regular daily medication In a 3 month supply and it was $5 less than what my one months supply use to be from my old vets! I've since been back with my other mainecoon Marley and was still extremely pleased. My overall experiences here have been more than wonderful and I truly appreciated the fact that they took there time and really cared about my animals. They are compassionate, helpful and don't just care about money! read more
