Do not recommend for exotics at all, I called to see if they could see my rabbit I specifically asked them if they saw rabbits they said they did so I brought him. When I got there they spend like 5min with him and charged me $100 to say take him elsewhere. He died on the way. I'm just saying don't say you do something you don't. read more

I was here today for my kittens first Veterinarian appointment! This is my first cat so I have no clue what I'm doing. Dr Graves answered any and all crazy cat Mom questions and was very thorough and I did not feel rushed at all! They have AMAZING working cat Mom hours, so I got an appointment right at 7AM and was out of there before 8AM. I was expecting a much larger bill for it being her first visit, but it was just a little over $200 and I got everything they recommended I get. The receptionists were so sweet, and very professional. Zina (my kitty) wasn't nervous being there at all, and Dr Graves let her have some time to venture around and be curious before doing the exam. She never let her claws out, and I could tell she actually liked being there even after coming back from getting her vaccines. Thanks Dr Graves and the Seaport B crew! Update: You guys are so awesome! Zina had her spay on Tuesday. And she's doing great. Seaport called me the very next day to check in and see how everything is going and answered all my crazy first time cat Mom questions. All I gotta say: Traditional Chinese medicine and herbal treatment option available for the animals. Amazing :) I also saw a pamphlet on the reception desk for a type of laser option during surgery for your pet to make them more comfortable. I just moved to Gloucester. I found them on yelp called at 1pm on a Tuesday and got an appointment for 30 mins later for my cat to have her anal glands expressed. The staff I had interactions with were two female receptionists (i didn't catch their names but both were super welcoming, professional, informative and kept the office flowing) and Nate the male vet technician (?) who took care of my Lil soul mate. Nate has a wonderful calming vibe about him, he was super personable, showed genuine interest and listened to my Lil list of concerns until I was done rambling it off. He answered all my questions and made me feel like my cat was the only animal there. I like that I was not with my cat during the procedure. We did it once a couple of months ago for the first time at a different vet in Boston and my cat was traumatized for days and it was heart breaking looking at her little face screaming her head off. Our visit was quick, Nate came out, introduced himself, told me he was going to take Anna Mae in the back now and that he'd be doing her anal gland release with an assistant. They were done in ten minutes I'd say and I only heard one tiny sob from her at the end. What a relief! Totally recommended. I even made some new human friends in the waiting room. Our visit cost $25.00 for cat anal gland release. My cat is 20lbs and about 12 years old. She's acting totally chill and relaxed like nothing ever happened. Thank you! read more

This has to be the worst vet in the state. The receptionist seems like she can barely remember her own name. They scheduled me incorrectly, so I showed up with a sedated dog and they didn't have an appointment for me. I was going to let this slide since they squeezed me in. However, the vet who saw us proved to be mentally unstable. She cut the quick of my dog's nail and then verbally assaulted me for absolutely no reason. I have been to multiple vets over the years and this office is the worst by far. The people are incredibly trashy and they will hurt your dog and then try to blame you for it. Beware. read more

As the owner of four surprisingly high maintenance Guinea pigs, I was dreading having to find a new exotic vet when I moved to the Cape Ann area last fall. I am generally skeptical when it comes to choosing a vet for my exotics, as I've experienced several veterinarians that advertise that they treat them, without having the training, experience, and appropriate equipment. I contacted SeaPort and was impressed with the charismatic young man who took my information and booked me for a requested morning appointment with a Dr. Sarah Hammond. Upon arriving, the off street parking was plentiful and the interior of the small building was clean, well lit, and inviting. I honestly cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Hammond- she was friendly, professional, and immediately put me at ease with the way she handled my scared and irritable pig. She confirmed my suspicion of an abscess, and clearly outlined the options for treatment, associated risks, and possibility for future complications. I especially appreciated that she would attempt a less invasive approach before using an anesthetic gas due to increased risk for my small animal. She provided me with itemized quotes for each potential treatment, and I found their prices to be very fair. I signed releases and left feeling reassured that my pet was in competent hands. The procedure went smoothly and I was provided with antibiotics and printed instructions for aftercare. While I hope we are not frequent fliers, my four piggies have found a new and trusted vet at SeaPort Veterinary Hospital. read more

Shortly after moving to town, my dog started acting sick - sluggish, lethargic, and not her usual excited, athletic border collie self. I didn't know anyone in town, and especially didn't have a veterinarian who not only knew her history but could see us on short notice. On a flip of a coin, I called SeaPort, and they were able to see her pretty quickly. In the meantime, my other dog developed a few hot spots, and Dr. Cahill and staff were able to see both dogs on short notice (during what I also, like another reviewer mentioned, suspect was their lunch break. To make a long story short, a few tests completed over a 2 day period later, and I had a very sad diagnosis. From the minute I made the first phone call to the afternoon I had to say goodbye to my companion of nearly 10 years, the SeaPort staff were kind, compassionate, and gracious, to both the canine and human members of my little family. It's a state of the art medical facility that's comfortable and welcoming, and a staff that offers exceptional customer service. While I'm heartbroken about the circumstances, I'm thrilled to have found such an excellent facility. read more

This vet hospital was the best I've ever had and Dr. Cahill, my vet, the best vet. He was my cat's vet since September and when she got sick he treated her from February to April with skill, kindness, and compassion and was kind to and cared about me. She died a month ago today; I've been so sad it's taken me til now to be able to even write this review. Before she got cancer, she had stress due to a major move and also her brother died of cancer in Aug. Dr. C. prescribed meds and also suggested Feliway pheromone plug-ins (which helped her a lot). When he diagnosed her with cancer in March he put her on a steroid medication and each time I brought her in for her injection the vet techs were very good, and quick (she was so scared going to vet's). I was really impressed when once Nate, a vet tech, called a couple days after a vet visit, before her diagnosis and Dr. C. was trying antibiotics, to see how she was doing. Never had a vet practice that did that! The front staff as well were all caring and patient, and very understanding as to how hard this was for me since I'd lost her brother too. Also, this hospital is super clean! When the time came for my cat to be euthanized, Dr. Hammond (also excellent) told me (via email) in the kindest way possible to bring her in as soon as I could but after trying twice to do that I just couldn't and decided on in-home euthanasia. I tried to book an appointment for as soon as possible but was told Dr. Hammond--and I assume all the other vets as well (I know Dr. C. had jury duty)--was not available for 2 weeks. So I had to go with an outside in-home vet that I didn't know (I hadn't known I wouldn't be able to get an in-home visit quickly). So I have marked 4 stars and not 5 because I wish they could have found a way to have one of the vets come to my home as I wanted her passing to be with a vet she (and I) knew. Also, it hurts me that I haven't heard from them since April 30--since they're my vet and they treated my dear cat--by phone, or email, or even a condolence card. I'm hoping there's an explanation as I sent Dr C. a thank-you card shortly after my kitty passed. UPDATE: Today is June 28, and I never heard from them for the last two months every again after my cat died that they cared for. That said I still recommend Seaport over the two other main practices in Gloucester (I had used both for years). read more

This Saturday, I woke up and my cat had a bad eye infection. I called this place and they were able to see us within the hour. Dr. Cahill was extremely patient and caring. He was so gentle and loving to my cat, and he took lots of time to explain everything he was doing to us in detail. He is really great! Also, the office is extremely clean and really cute. It has the feel of a little beach cottage. All the staff members were lovely and the price was very reasonable. The vets here are extremely talented, very well educated and able. I bring my cat here, and I'll have a dog within 12 hours which I plan on bringing there too. Price is somewhat higher than other places, but you certainly get what you pay for. Staff is very knowledgeable and caring, it's a great atmosphere. I also like that they offer some traditional medicine as well, though I've never used it. I would absolutely and highly reccomend this veterinary practice. read more

What I love most about Seaport Vet is the time Dr. Cahill spends with my canine companions. He is so gentle, thorough and patient. The staff is equally superb. The office is great at letting patients know about closures, holiday time, etc. They also have Saturday hours. You just know that Seaport Vet is more than a business for Dr. Cahill. I started taking my kitten here and loved the place. Great service and great care. Things went downhill fast once I took my kitten in for her spay procedure. What should have been a seemingly routine procedure, almost killed my cat. Within days my kitten developed a terrible MRSA infection under her incision. Over 2 weeks and $2K later, the folks at the Massachusetts Vet Referral Hospital in Woburn saved her life. It kills me because I wanted to love this place because Dr. Cahill and his staff are kind and sincere. To his credit, he did try to help out with the situation, BUT they almost killed my kitten because of their questionable sterility practices. There are no words in the English language to express how wonderful this facility is. Everyone here is great. The front desk staff are knowledgeable, friendly and have an excellent sense of humor (which is especially calming when you're nervous). Dr. Lockwood is a truly beautiful human being who truly loves animals. Her approach to my cats is a delight to watch. She never rushes them. My cat Clementine is afraid of everyone who isn't me or my husband. When Dr. Lockwood comes into the room, she flops on her back for tummy pets. I live in Boston, but I treck my three babies here. I wouldn't take them anywhere else. Pricing is fair and they never ever upcharge for anything. You'd be a silly goose to not book your pet's next appointment with them. read more

Just went here for the first time today with my dog and cat. We had Dr. Rebecca Smith and she was awesome! She helped me out so much and explained everything to me that was going on. Even when I broke down about what was going on with my cat she was great comfort and she was about to cry. Compassion like that shows and tells me a lot that she cares for these animals. About 5 years ago our long time vet retired. After trying his replacement we knew we had to find another practice to care for our black lab and kitty cat. Some how we were blessed to have found Dr. Cahill and his wonderful staff at Seaport Veterinary Hospital. Our beloved Riley had been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease several years before we made the switch. As he aged his Cushing's symptoms became more and more difficult to treat due to other complications. No matter when we called, Dr. Cahill made time to see Riley. Not only would he sit on the floor with us while I cried he answered every email, even one at 2 am. Eventually we consulted with Angell Memorial with an endocrinologist but maintained care through Seaport Vet. During this time our elderly cat started making her way and thanks to Dr. Cahill she peacefully made her way over the rainbow bridge. Well, earlier this year we had to say good-bye to Riley too. The support and comfort we received from the Seaport Vet staff was so helpful during this difficult time. In April we decided to add a golden retriever pup to our family and again we are back to this special place. Although I have talked about Dr. Cahill I would be remiss not to mention everyone. We have had the opportunity to meet with Drs. Lockwood and Hammond with our pets along with visits we have made with our son's dog. Whenever we call, April and Nate are always responsive and professional. Andrea has been our angel when we have run in with sick pups. Mike is new to us and we have really enjoyed getting to know him during technician visits. I need to also mention Jessica, Mendy and Tracy and I apologize if I have forgotten anyone. Mostly nice people; Bad experience.Seaport's prices for lion cut/ grooming of my turkish angora were less than my vet and money is very tight this summer. he needs the lion cut because his summer coat is huge; and he rolls in the dirt and gets completely matted with dreads. then he vomits all the time from trying to pull them out. so i finally got the $ together and called them. it took 3 weeks of phone tag, no one answering during business hours, different people answering, different information each time...to get him an appointment. already this was quite different than my usual vet. when i picked him up they hadnt even bothered to clean his face before giving him to me; his eyes were running with yellow goo. his fur hadnt been cleaned in any way so his remaining fur was still quite dirty. (i mean, in places he is light brown !) he still had some little dreads around his neck ( which become big dreads) and some black sticky bits on his fur. the cut was uneven and looked hacked in the back and it's clear he was not washed, combed, brushed... his ruff even looked greasy in front. most of the staff seem very nice but the office is disorganized and im shocked and dissapointed at the results. he is the same dirty cat, with his body shaved. read more

I have heard many people rave about this little Gloucester hospital before, and now I can add myself to that list. I work at a larger emergency hospital in Boston, but live on Cape Ann. When my dog had a very minor issue related to a prior surgery she had at *my* hospital, Dr Lockwood was able to get me in within a few hours and was extremely sweet and gentle with my occasionally challenging chihuahua! Her technician, Hannah, was also amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I had a lovely time meeting them both. We switched to Seaport Vet a couple of years ago. My dogs have seen Dr. Cahill a number of times and he is unfailingly patient, thorough, and kind. We've had one "emergency" (not even that much of an emergency) visit and we were seen within an hour, I'm pretty certain on their lunch break though nobody ever let on. For my dogs most recent annual appointment, it was tricky to get an appointment that worked with my schedule so I saw Dr. Lockwood instead. I was a bit nervous as we are all such Dr. Cahill fans. Well, there was no reason to be. She is every bit as wonderful. The entire staff in this office is just fabulous, and as good with people as they are with animals. I've shown up with two big dogs and three kids under age 5 in tow and they've not batted an eye. I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

We started going to Seaport Vet after originally taking our two labs to a veterinary hospital that was more like a factory than a vet. We never saw the same vet twice, it was all about the money. Dr. Cahill actually cares about your dogs and surprising actually remembers your name and your pet's name. We are very comfortable with him and he will spend as much time with you as necessary. We live in Boston but are willing to take the drive to Gloucester in order to bring our dogs to someone who actually cares. Everyone there does a great job and is very professional. I loved my prior vet but had moved my location. My beloved Leonberger was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. After chemo and a bucket list trip we arrived in Gloucester where four days later he went into a very sudden decline. I had never visited SeaPort but I realized this was an emergency situation. On a Friday afternoon, Dr. Sarah Hammond agreed to see my dog immediately, the sad but not surprising news was that he had very little time and was in distress. How this news could have been delivered with greater kindness, empathy and concern for the comfort of my pet (and myself!) I cannot imagine . I am so grateful for Dr. Hammond for then coming to my home and lovingly sending my dog over the rainbow bridge. There was very comforting follow up in the week to come.
