Nice hole-in-the-wall bar with some solid food. The wife's steak frites were ordered medium well, but came out medium rare...they took it back and cooked it a little more and it was perfect! I am a self-diagnosed bbq snob, to the point I don't often get bbq when not at a bbq joint, but i was tempted by the brisket burnt ends sandwich. And this is why i don't order bbq in a NYC bar. It might have been brisket, but wasn't what I would call burnt ends. Seemed a little busy here on a Saturday night. It looked as if they were having some kind of private event in their back area. Service was aight. 10 stars if I could. Had to leave my home town of asbury park NJ and head into Brooklyn to deliver my daughter to a show at the Brooklyn monarch. Had a few hours to kill and did my research ahead of time to see where we might hang out while we waited. Northern Belle seemed like the spot so after braving downpour rain, crazy winds and the worst drivers in America, we made it to the bar. From the outside it looked dark and we drove past it and had to turn around to find the place. Wow, you walk in the door and the place is buzzing with Brooklyn locals. We got lucky and got the last 2 seats at the bar. The bartender was so friendly and made great drinks. He was cranking out the drinks and still kept checking on us, not sure how he handles it but he is awesome . We ordered a ton of food for the 2 of us and this place makes really good bar food. Really good. We did the deep fried deviled egg plate, really good. Shrimp and brisket tacos were great. Fried hicken sandwich came with a ton of hand cut fries. Perfect! The pro was that everything came out very fresh! The Mac and cheese was pretty solid, it's creamy and cheesy and has a great crusted top, no complaints there. The brisket burnt end sandwich has much to be desired. The meat was pretty tasty on its own, but the Texas toast was sadly very burnt tasting which transferred over to the meat itself. The French fries were super fresh, thick and crunchy which was nice. A regular coke is pretty flat and comes out of a 2L bottle. Overall, mediocre experience at best. read more

The hostess was super nice and seated us right away, we had the option of inside or outside and we decided to sit outside in their cute and covid friendly backyard patio area. Place is great. I sidled in on a Tuesday afternoon as the only person there. Their back eating area is well shaded and has a nice, steady breeze. The wings are dangerous with a crispy, smokey flavor. I suggest you eat them as recommended: dry with a sauce on the side. The garlic aioli dipping sauce was so good I dipped my fries in them instead of ketchup. The bison burger is likewise delicious. Bison is notoriously dry and tough to cook but they nailed it. The burger was juicy and the sauce brought it all together nicely. Anyhow , they have a great outdoor area , plenty of craft beers , and a varied menu. I must say , the BBQ items are rather limited , so this is affects my score ( only one bbq sauce which was homemade but very good ... but just one ) Started with the Mac and cheese with bacon which was good and then moved on to the burger which was very good and fries which was ok . My friend and I decided to visit on a Friday night. We assumed it be packed and when we walked in, it was! We were able to snag a table close to the bar right after a party had left. This is 100% a no frills dive bar. Seems like a neighborhood favorite though because it was packed with people who lived in the area. We decided to order two draft IPA's which were pretty good. When the mac n cheese arrived we could tell who the belle of the Nothern Bell was. It had that beautifully browned topping and the melty-cheesy goodness you look for. I would definitely return for this dish alone. For my side I picked the succotash salad. It had a nice array of colorful vegetables and a briney dressing that rounded it. The service her was off the charts. The guy working was super sweet. He never forgot us in the back. He was helpful with the menu. And he even hooked up my bro-in-law with some pint glasses. I need to return for this infamous fried deviled eggs!! And that patio is going to be my second home when it starts getting warm. Insane odors wafting through the room. The menu is kind of southern american comfort food. They do brunch. They do fried green tomatoes. They do fried chicken sandwiches. Ribs, mac and cheese, fried avocado, bourbon sweet potato mash, a bacon essence apple pie, and something called a disco breakfast sandwich. You've caught my eye. Nervous twitch. The thing I've come in here for is their beer - which always has an extremely impressive rotating draft menu. Their best deal of the week is Monday Mug Night - $5 for any draft that is under $10. They have $1 off beers every other day of the week from 4-7pm and a few beer and food specials they mix up for happy hour. Went for Good Beer Passport Dinner Food - 5/5. This version of fried deviled eggs was fantastic! The egg whites, which are normally very plain in flavor, are breaded with plenty of herbs to give it taste and texture. The yolks are blended well to form a creamy consistency with plenty of tartness to brighten the flavor. The deviled eggs are great on their own but with the chipotle aioli, the smooth and spicy flavors of the dip compliment the eggs very well. Pimento cheese was tasty and the pickled vegetables were refreshing. Service - 4/5. Quick and courteous. Value - 5/5. The deviled eggs themselves were great but the fact that it comes with a side of pimento cheese and pickled vegetables makes it practically a complete meal. When I got invited to go to Northern Bell, I had to admit that I had never heard of it. However, since I rarely ventured into Brooklyn, that was no reflection on the appeal of the establishment. In fact, the casual restaurant and bar wound up being a gem that I was happy to discover. On that early Friday evening, I walked in and found a few patrons cozied up at the laidback bar, as well as some small groups relaxing in the spacious backyard. On top of the comfortable, seasonal seating, our server was extremely friendly, leaving us with the obvious fact that this was just such a welcoming spot. Throughout my few hours there, I indulged in several beverages, including a custom cocktail composed of mescal and Aperol. The mixture had been offered as either a martini or on the rocks. I wisely selected to have it served in a small glass with ice, as it was a pretty potent drink already. For some reason, I had never considered a combination on the smoky mescal and herbaceous red liqueur, but the flavors truly complimented each other. I also loved the tart and rich Cherry Stout from Bell's Brewery in Comstock, Michigan. The dark brew had a reddish tinge and undertones of dark chocolate and ripe fruit. In fact, the beer was apparently infused with 100% Montmorency cherries that were locally grown to the brewery. My mouth was watering from decadent menu offerings, such as Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs and a Buffalo Chicken Pot Pie, but I wanted something lighter. I was also trying to cut down on my red meat intake, so I anticlimactically selected the BBQ Tofu Sandwich. I know you are all groaning at this, but it was not bad! A large hamburger bun was stuffed with two large slabs of BBQ-smoked tofu, lettuce, tomato, and slaw. I was able to substitute the traditional French fries with indulgent Bourbon Sweet Potato Mash and then still had my choice of a second side dish. I wanted to keep my meal as lean as possible, so went with the Corn Succotash, which included peppers and tomatoes within the cob-less kernels. With its appropriate name based on influences from differing regions of the US, Northern Bell served up the comforting flavors of the South with the Northern flair of hipster Brooklyn. I was so nervous that I would never find a bar/restaurant with a beer/food selection that exceeds my standards - until I came here. They don't have a beer menu, they have a beer bible! They have a huge rotating draft list in addition to a gazillion more beers that are separated by style. I've seen many of my old favorites on there and have discovered some new favorites too. They have this crazy cool deal where they give you a shot of house and liquor and a pint of beer (their choice) for I believe $10? You can't go wrong with that. Whenever you're planning to explore most of their extensive beer menu, it's smart to have something to eat as well. Their bacon Mac N Cheese is great for soaking up alcohol, and it's also delicious too. They also have a backyard for the summertime if you want to sit outside.
