The soup dumplings were served in tins, rather than directly on paper in the steamer, and there were no spoons. It certainly reduces the risk of the dumpling tearing, which happened with a mushroom one. The broth, pork, and casing were all simply prepared. The pumpkin balls ended up being the highlight of the meal. They came out hot with a crispy exterior to the sweet batter that was soft just under the shell that formed. (We should have given it another minute on the table to let the outside cool and the custard center more time to warm up.) The decor reflects the restaurant's consciously familiar approach. The general design resembles Chinese-American restaurants of the 70s and 80s, with pictures of temples on wall hangings and actual 80s style chairs at each table. But in 2025, the chairs read as delightfully retro and the hangings lend an airiness and light to the whole space. And the price is right. An order of soup dumplings could be a whole meal for $12.
