Braised pork belly and tofu puff

Ordered takeout from here so can't really comment on the service other than the food was ready relatively quickly! Portions were great for both items I ordered. Rice Noodle and Pork Salad {3.5/5}: Texture of the rolls of rice noodles were nice and chewy. There were tender strips of pork throughout with some refreshing cucumbers all mixed in a peanut sauce. Not really my preference. Braised pork belly and tofu puff {3.5/5}: Very nice portion size and tender pork belly. The sauce itself is like a thick gelatinous gravy that I was not particularly fond of.

This place was all over my timeline, and it did not disappoint. Everyone was nice and the food was delicious, and was served fast, even though it was busy.

Came in n a cold Friday night which was busy but great service. Waitlist sign up is fast and easy on a tablet by the front desk, by the kitchen entrance. Give it your phone number and text messages will update you. Fast table turnarounds during busy times. We split a B1 chefs special entree which is the yummy Crispy Pork in Sweet and Sour Glaze. It comes with one bowl of rice, so got a second one. Very seriously some of the best crispy pork I've ever had. Drink wise, apart from the water tried the Chinese Sweeter Herbal Tea (which is cold and in a can) and a hot tea, both hit the spot. Bathrooms are at the end of the larger dining area, very clean. The larger dining area is upstairs, with 5 steps, but there is a small elevator to make it accessible to everyone. Will definitely be back to try more!

The Food is the Best Dong Bai "Norther Chinese" I've had in the USA. The Service is wonderful! The wife and I are treated like family! This restaurant is clean and very nice! I really like the comfortable booths!

Ambiance: The first thing I noticed is the amazing ambiance. It has one of the nicest interiors out of all the restaurants in campus town. However, I was thrown off by disposable cups for water. Service: The waitress was very attentive and our food arrived very quickly. However, the two dishes did arrive separately with about a 5-10 minutes gap between the two. Food: The eggplant dish was excellent. The eggplant is the perfect texture and there is plenty of savory sauce to cover all the vegetables. The pork was also good but it was a bit too sweet. The cuts are also a little too big and required a lot of chewing to finish a piece. The batter that cover the pork has an interesting texture as it is a bit chewy and less crispy. However overall, it was still a good dish, but I probably wouldn't order it again unlike the eggplant.

Food was great! Service was good as well. Only con I would say is the water is served in plastic cups and there was no ice in my water. Other raise the price is good for the amount of food. 100% will come back again!

Northern Cuisine is great! A bit on the expensive side but I think it's one of the more authentic Chinese restaurants in Champaign. Favorites are the Chili green beans and crispy fried pork (sweet). The green beans are cooked well and have a nice flavor to them and are always gone within minutes! We also like getting fried dough with soy milk. The ambience is nice, it has dark lighting inside. The service is okay, sometimes we have to look over at the server to come to us but I think they were giving us time to decide. They serve water in plastic clear cups with no ice but it doesn't bother me that much. Overall, it's a nice place to go if you're looking for some quality Chinese dishes!

Portions are great and the atmosphere is quiet and nice. Everything was salted very well but also didn't feel too unhealthy.

Expensive and bad-taste food - any Taiwanese would be able to find it is far from real Chinese cuisine.

Food #610 preserved egg and pork porridge…read more#604 house special bun House special bun was solid, 7 out of 10. Meat was a on the oily side but otherwise this was good. The porridge (congee) was 4 out of 10 for me. Lots of corn starch added, though it got thinner as I ate more. The taste seemed like MSG, though I am not sure how much was from the preserved egg. This was less than $10 and a big portion. I would have preferred less volume if it meant less corn starch. Ambiance: Pros for authenticity: the music playing are Chinese artists like JJ Lin. Cons: a bit of a musty smell when I walked in. For context, it had rained all day. I realize I'm not the target market (university student), though the food was disappointing.

First of all, do NOT order online for pick up or take out since it is much more expensive. The meat…read moredishes (pork, beef, etc.) in store were $16.99-$17.99. I was going to order online but they were all around $22-25. The rice special lunches in store were $9.99 but online is around $15. I actually came because my friend loved to come here a couple years ago and said it was his favorite restaurant on campus. I ordered the pork lunch special. And I was extremely disappointed. As seen in the picture when you open your food, there's just a whole ton of cabbage. I then sifted through it and counted less than 8 pieces of meat. And the bottom of the box was padded with a thick layer of rice. I also ordered a stewed pork bun. It lacked flavor and the meat to bread ratio was extremely off. I assumed because of COVID, prices went up (at least online) and less expensive ingredients were being used(meats) and more cheap materials were used to complete customer orders (rice and veggies). I know many restaurants have done this but my order was just laughably disappointing. Also I came to order on a Sunday afternoon. I was placing my order when the cashier told me that the cook was out and they couldn't make over 50-60% of the menu. That put me off a bit as I was originally going to order two things from the menu but they were both "unavailable". I think there should've been a note in the menu so customers would be notified before they spend 5 minutes looking at the menu to decide. Anyways that was a slight tangent. But another reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the cashier and workers were quite short. They would interrupt you while talking. It's just not the customer service I would expect. The only redeeming factor I believe was that one of few pieces of meat I had actually tasted pretty good. Besides this I do not think I will be back or will be recommending this place to anyone else. If you're craving authentic Chinese food, I believe there are many better options on campus (Northern Cuisine, Lao Sze Chuan, etc.).

But that being said there were a lot of GREAT things about this restaurant so I'll start there. The restaurant itself it's so moody and vibey I LOVED it, was such a good place for a date night, our waiter was so attentive, helped with all of our questions and a very patient with us as we worked through the menu. 10/10 service! We got the dumpling and pork bun appetizer and both were AMAZING, seriously the pork bun?? I could have eaten 1000 of them. Next was the sushi, I got the Atlantic hand roll and another member of the table got the rainbow roll, both were very fresh and flavorful, highly recommend. Next was the entree, I got the pork belly ramen, as a huge ramen fanatic I was SO excited, especially following up our appetizers, the bar was set high and unfortunately I was so disappointed. The broth was not very good and everything so extremely salty, I couldn't even eat the mushrooms in the bowl because they soaked up so much of the broth and it was like a salt bomb in my mouth. The pork belly was cooked well and I did really enjoy that, but for a $20 bowl of ramen, it really fell flat for me. I also got the sweet heat cocktail, and it also wasn't for me, cocktails are so personal so it's not that I wouldn't recommend someone try it, it's just that I didn't hit for me, and that was the general consensus of the table. While I had a great night, I would probably try a different restaurant for Asian food before I came back to this one!

I am spoiled by great Asian food in Champaign, but this was surprisingly good for Paxton. They have all the very typical Szechuan dishes, with the place-mat style printed red & black paper menu identical to thousands of other fast Chinese places. The restaurant has photos on a menu board to assist people in ordering who are unfamiliar with Chinese dishes and there was a steam-table, not being used when I was there at lunch, so I don't know wheter a buffet is served at other times or on other days. I'm giving it 4 stars for surviving with a decent Asian choice in this white-bread Ford County town.
